With their opening track, the intro to their new album, making such a bold statement, Blood of Wecz set out their stall and showed their hand. From there, it was vital that the promises their introduction made wee delivered upon. The second track from In Renatum, Disconnection, does just that. An emotional, hate filled aggressive metal track, the song takes the aggression and heaviness displayed in the first offering and takes it to an all new level. Again, the song delivers the sort of energy that has made Blood of Wecz the band they are today, taking the anger found in the emotion and transferring it wonderfully into some of the most driven music anyone will have heard this year. The chunky song is among the heaviest on the album and will be one to take its place art the top table of metal tracks for years to come, delivered with prowess and the slick skills that have proved how flawless Blood of Wecz can be. The track begins exactly where the last one left off. The ringing note that brought the intro to an end serves as the opening of this track, before a thumping repeated beat on the snare drum, and a spine tingling guitar slide mark the real start of it. A quick punchy riff punctuates the opening, and Scott Rose-Hilton's aggressive vocals come into the song. Each line of the first verse is screamed over the top of just a simple drum beat, with the beginning of each line punctuated with the same little quick riff. A it draws to close, and Scott delivers the line "more" over a really distorted backing, the song properly kicks in. The main riff of the song is as chunky and groovy as it is heavy, reminiscent of early Lamb of God mixed with the brutality of Misery Index. When the main body of the track begins, the drums kick in properly with ferocious double kick bass dominating the sound along with the precision of the guitar chords. That is until Scott's voice comes back in. His vocals appear to have a direction and a purpose in this song that make the listener really feel them. Each word is delivered with a ferocity and a directness that leaves no doubt he is angered and emotional in every word that he says. At the end of the verse, a slight pause is annotated by the ringing of an open guitar chord again, before the truly memorable chorus kicks in for real. The chorus is punchy and violent. Chords in the chorus are much more short and sharper than they are in the verses delivering a different sort of sound and allowing the chorus its own iconic moment by letting it be so different to the rest of the track. It is a slower and more deliberate section, but one that really conveys the emotion and the personal element laced throughout the track. This is one that will have metalheads the world over banging their heads in unison over the next year, so memorable and stand out is the chorus, perhaps something that past Blood of Wecz songs did not give enough of a focus to. After the first chorus, the song breaks into a heavy as hell breakdown, where all the instruments chug along in a fantastically metal moment that will have fans of Blood of Wecz screaming for more. Scott sings a variation of the first verse over this again, with the breakdown adding so much more venom and poison to every single line he delivers. From there, each section of the song progresses in a similar manner, ripping through violent choruses and verses time again. The only variation of this is the last verse just before the final chorus. During this, the drums and bass stop, and only one guitar plays a repeated discord over the top of the vocals, giving Scott's final warning to the song's subject an almost ominous and terminal warning. The last line is screamed with a massive ferocity behind it, which launches the band into the final chorus with a thundering blow on the drums. Mark Talley says: "Ask any artist, they'll have a favourite song on each album they've released. This is, without a doubt, my favourite on In Renatum, and possibly of everything we've ever done. Even listening to it now, I can feel the hairs on the back of my neck standing up. It's so fucking heavy. The chunky main riff just sounds so brutal and it's completely unrelenting. We definitely needed this song to sound really aggressive. There are other moments on the album where it relents a little, but this was never going to be it. With what Scott was singing about, the topic he covers in the track, it had to be something so angry it makes you want to kick a hamster through next Wednesday. Writing this was quite a long process for us, because we had to get it right. The lyrics had to be delivered with a real punch, and the music needs to sell that, so we spent a long time writing and rewriting certain parts to get that across. I don't think I've ever felt energy like it in the actual recording though. I really went for it on guitar and on bass, and I think the end result is fantastic. I love the chunkiness and the brutality of it. Of all the songs we have in our reptertoire now, this is the one I'm looking forward to playing live most when we hit the road."Scott Rose-Hilton says: "I can't say it's a favourite of mine, but that's purely because of the theme that we went with. I love the musicianship in it, and the style and the sound and everything. I left all of that to Mark for this track so I could focus just entirely on my lyrics because this is just the most personal song I've ever written. I've never really spoken about this in the past but my relationship with my father has always been tense. As a youngster, he spent a lot of money putting me through expensive schools that I had no interest in, and that made me a failure in his eyes. When I picked up a guitar and created this band, he essentially disowned me. As a 14-year old kid that hurts. So yeah I never spoke to my father for the better part of 12 or 13 years, and even then he came back to tell me how disappointed he was that I had adopted a kid. I don't know why that's a failure. This is the first time I went to write a song though and my anger towards him was vivid enough but also lucid enough that I could write it without every line ending in the word 'cunt'. It's an angry angry song about our relationship and how I'm turning the tables and rejecting him. I hope he hears it. And I really really hope he hates it a lot. This is without a doubt the most personal my lyrics have ever been in my entire career, and I think it helps the song feel really genuine. This is the one that I think can show a new side of me as a musician and an artist." LyricsFather, we were disconnected! Ties that once bound us together dissected! All our candles burned to nothing At least I can say that I've come to something...
More!
You let the link in every chain break, and watched the years pass by Held a grudge cos I wasted my life, and every buck you ever spent Fuck if I care, take it to the grave, you're a long time dead My name lives forever, let memories cloud around your head
No hope! No faith! No more time to compensate With one foot in the grave, I'll never hear your name again No hope! No pain! Your conscience came too late Never cared what you said, I'm not your legacy!
Father we're disconnected! Another memory resurrected! And now all our bridges burn Collect my ashes from this urn
You passed your judgement and embraced the execution Donned your cap and sent our link to the gallows to watch it swing At least I'll say that I stand strong and fight for my belief I know I'll never be the one to seek hatred just to find relief
No hope! No faith! No more time to compensate With one foot in the grave, I'll never hear your name again No hope! No pain! Your conscience came too late Never cared what you said, I'm not your legacy!
Treading footsteps in the snow that I was supposed to follow But I'm not your shadow, and I'll never follow in your wake You peddle hate and fear, and I was just supposed to swallow Now I stand in truth with those I love, you're still twisted and so fake
Now in time, do we fall and beg down on our knees Do we seek revenge or do we fight to be set free You cared for your own back, I'll never be your reflection Look in the mirror, seek me out, but this is disconnection I hope you see how bitter tastes I hope you feel these lives you waste And as you stand, and fight for nothing At least I know I stand for something!
No hope! No faith! No more time to compensate With one foot in the grave, I'll never hear your name again No hope! No pain! Your conscience came too late Never cared what you said, I'm not your legacy!
Was I a failure, am I less than what you hoped I'd become? Let's get things straight, you had your moment in the sun And now the power shifts, I'm not the kid you once rejected No more hope...no more pain....no love lost nor resurrected!
No hope! No faith! No more time to compensate With one foot in the grave, I'll never hear your name again No hope! No pain! Your conscience came too late Never cared what you said, I'm not your legacy!
