"Love.Sex.Magic." (also referred to as "Love, Sex, and Magic") is the first studio album by American R&B/hip-hop singer Barbarian, set to be released on November 3, 2013 through Hot Eye Records. So far, producers enlisted for the album are Daniel, TC (Throat Cutters), Mike Will Made It, Stereotypes, Song Dynasty, Stephanie Fierce and Dallas Austin. Barbarian also took the role as songwriter and co-producer for all songs on the album with no co-writers involved with the exception of collaboration tracks. "Cheat" will be released as the album's lead single on September 15, 2013.

Barbara began the recording process of her debut album early in June 2012 before signing on to Hot Eye Records. Before the big singing, Barb had first linked up with Daniel after a discussion they had during their attendance of a fashion show in Paris. Despite Daniel being shocked by Barbarian's interest, he offered her the chance to have a recording session to test things out. They spent over a week recording the best songs that Barbarian had written during the past few years. "Get In Line" stood out of from all of the tracks, so the song was mixed and finalized for demo release. With that done, Barbarian began her record label hunt. She personally payed a visit to Hot Eye Records offices, where she turned in the demo. She was immediately called in for an audition and after a successful run, Barbarian signed her first music recording contract. After singing with HER (Hot Eye Records), Harris was provided with a team of experienced coaches and studio engineers to continue the recording process of her album.

The label then wasted no time, and allowed Barbarian to release the promo track "Get In Line" to airplay and digital outlets. Due to rave reviews, the song was performed live on "Ellen", becoming Barbarian's first televised performance. With the success of the performance, just days later, Barbarian appeared on late night comedy talk show "Chelsea Lately" to talk about the album where she also confirmed its title.

"Coming from a different world or industry, I do feel a little intimated because I want this so bad. I was fortunate enough to build a brand for myself in the modeling industry, but I have to prove myself even further now because I've entered a completely whole new world. As a singer this is my first album and I definitely want to have a say in it, but at the same time I want to learn from the pioneers of music and feed off of their knowledge. Not many artist get the chance to work with top producers on their first album, so I definitely wanted to take advantage of that. However, the one thing I do love to do and requested is to write my songs. I've been a songwriter since I was a little kid, so I was very happy with the fact that was able to have 100% say in my first album" - Barbarian

A snippet of "Love is Fire" was leaked on to the internet on July 26, 2012. After rave reviews, the label confirmed the song to be the album's lead single. However, the song's release was cancelled. Barbarian later revealed that the album is still being recorded and that the lead single will be released towards the fall of 2013. "Cheat" was chosen as the album's lead single, the song was premiered on September 15, 2013.

1. Cheat feat. Kidd Amaze

Album: "Love.Sex.Magic."
Recorded: August 2013
Writer/Composer: Barbara Harris "Barbarian", Dallas Austin, TJ Cousins "Kidd Amaze"
Producer: Dallas Austin, Barbara Harris "Barbarian"
Length: 4:25
Genres: R&B, Hip-hop Soul
Instruments: Guitar, Trumpet, synthesizer, paino, drums and percussion
Samples: "Hey Young World" by Slick Rick.
Record Label: Hot Eye Records

Song Description & Background:

"Cheat" is a song by American recording artist Barbarian taken from her debut studio album "Love.Sex.Magic.". The album is set to be released November 3, 2013 through the support of Hot Eye Records. The song was written by Barbarian, Austin, and TJ Cousins and produced by Dallas Austin and co-produced by Barbara herself. The song is now being distributed worldwide as the lead single from the "Love.Sex.Magic." album through Hot Eye Records. The song will be made available for digital download and radio airplay on September 22, 2013. The song however first premiered online at midnight on Billboard's official website September 16, 2013 and was uploaded on Barbarian's official youtube/vevo as the first video in her channel the very same day. "Cheat" also comes forward as Harris's first mainstream single release after a couple of demos and snippets had leaked online.

Barbarian and legendary producer Dallas Austin produced the track together inside his own personal recording studio in Georgia. Austin first approached Barbarian with the concept of the song being that a "man cheated on her and eventually gets caught". Barbarian however thought the song's concept was too commercial and generic, and decided that it would be more innovative and original if she actually turned the tables on the meaning of the song and made it about her cheating on her man instead. Austin was instantly open to the idea and they both began writing the record in the most organic way imaginable. In terms of instrumentation, Barbarian wanted to incorporate a 90's inspired beat with real live instrumentation with a modern touch and After recording the track in the studio, Barbarian felt like the song needed a rap verse. She then heard about an upcoming rapper named "Kidd Amaze". After making a breakthrough with some of his music, Barbarian showed interest in working with the rapper even further and decided to call him up for a collaboration request. After hearing the record, Kidd Amaze sent in his verse in the matter of hours, and the record become more than she had expected. It was then, that she realized that his verse was very crucial, therefore she decided to release the song as the album's lead single.

"I decided to take the artistic route and write a song that will make people think a little deeper. Believe it or not, we still live a macho dominated society, where men are still getting away with a lot of things they do. I am in no way trying to portray myself as feminist, I know that as a woman I am designed to do certain things but people take that idea way too far. It's incredible how men are able to get away with so much and maintain cleaner image for things they do, things that if women did, they would be looked as far worse. A lot of people are gonna be wondering why I wrote a song like this for women, but it's more hypothetical than direct. I think it's just a way to make people think a little and open their minds. I am in no way or form promoting promiscuity, but I am promoting a vengeful fantasy for us women to experiment with, maybe once in our life to give these cheating men a taste of their own medicine. Two wrongs don't make a right, but it sure does make things equal." - Barbarian

In the terms of production, The song's beat consists of a seductive trumpet and the sound of a remixed record, insinuating a 90's sort of sound or tribute. The production always contains a light sample of "Hey Young World" by Slick Rick which can be heard in the background if you hear closely. Barbara's vocal range doesn't span too high in record, instead it's more relaxed and seductive. Despite Harris's wide vocal range, Barbarian purposely maintained a low voice to create an unique signature and unexpected vocal style that's to be showcased more in future songs. Overall, the songs composition is repetitive but effective and somewhat addictive thanks to the timeless sound of the trumpet which was softened to please the ears.

"Cheat" lyrics

Barbarian:

"Yes, it's Barbarian, and I'm back, haha, ooh
Oh I oh I oh I oh I yeah
Oh I oh I oh I oh I yeah
Oh I oh I oh I oh I baby
Oh I oh I oh I oh I yeah

The naughty things I did from hornyness
cause you put me through so many things
I gave my man all his modesty
But I know that he cheated on me
I caught him in his lie but all he does is cry to keep me near
you better wipe them eyes
boy I'm not fuckin' around
cause what I needed was your affection

Oh, So I cheat yeah
I Just keep it on the down low
cause nobody was supposed to know
So I cheat
yeah 'Cause he doesn't know what I do
and no attention Goes to show
oh so I cheat

The 23rd day of loneliness
cause we don't fuck like we used to do
better get used to the change
cause I'm not stressing
cause I know you did the same
yeah yeah
I'll keep giving loving till the day he pushes me away
and never go a day
If he knew the things I did he couldn't handle it
And I choose to be the one that isn't affected

So I cheat yeah
I Just keep it on the down low
cause nobody else supposed to know
So I cheat yeah
'Cause he doesn't know what I do and no attention goes to show oh so I cheat

I think about us baby all the time
But you know that I'm gonna need some affection
Yeah, yeah you can't deny it
I know you cheated baby, so will I
And you gotta know if you don't give me that D Imma get mine

Kidd Amaze:

What's wrong your man leaving you unsatisfied?
He doesn't give you the D to make you testify
I don't approve of cheating but I know you have needs
I'm quite controlling so I want to hear your beg and pleas
I'm not easy you going to have you work for this
Relax cause their don't be a pleasure spot I'll miss
Rough when I need be but gentle like a kiss
I going to tease you and maybe tie up your wrist
I give branding to have a whole new meaning
Looking at Nike's just do it gives a different feeling
Minute man, nothing about me is short term
Great at the play that leave you to squirm
Don't get it twisted just because my name is Kidd
Childlike at heart but where it counts I'm big
I Know I make the guy you with feel obsolete
As long as you keep on the low so nobody know that you cheat

Barbarian:

ooh
Oh I oh I oh I Oh I yeah
Oh I oh I oh I Oh I baby
Oh I oh I oh I Oh I yeah
yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah

2. Turn My Body Out/Fuck My Brains Out

Album: "Love.Sex.Magic."
Recorded: January 2013
Writer/Composer: Barbara Harris "Barbarian", Daniel
Producer: Daniel, Barbara Harris "Barbarian"
Length: 9:33
Genres: R&B, Funk, Disco Fusion
Instruments: Guitar, synthesizer, piano, drums and percussion
Record Label: Hot Eye Records

Song Description & Background:

"Turn My Body Out/Fuck My Brains Out" (Also titled solely as "Turn My Body Out" for radio support) is a song by American recording artist Barbarian taken from her debut studio album "Love.Sex.Magic.". The album itself is set to be released November 3, 2013 through the support of Hot Eye Records. The song was written by Barbarian and Daniel and produced by Daniel and co-produced by Barbara herself. The song is a whopping nine minutes and thirty three seconds long, consisting of two section, the fist being an intro and the second acting like an interlude. The songs composition is purposely unusual and unexpected to create a unique listening experience. The song will be made available for individual digital download on November 3, 2013 once the album is released.

Despite "Turn My Body Out" being the first section, Barbarian began writing the second piece which was intended to be first in her own private home. Her goal ultimately was to create a sexy song for the bedroom filled with simplistic R&B synths , but she eventually felt like that concept was too typical and generic. She began to play with the song in her own studio and after many edits, she could not come up with a way to make the song flow well or come out the way she would of hoped for it to come out. After leaving the song for a few days, she rediscovered it and decided to give it another go. Her creative juices really began flowing when she heard MJ's "Dirty Diana" which contains a similar intro. Those elements would later be included towards the intro of the song. When her visions became clear for the song she decided to call Daniel, who had already been working on her album, to ask his opinion on the songs. When Barbarian sent Daniel the lyrics, he was interested in adding a couple of lines to the lyrics and invited Barbara to his studio to complete the song. Eventually, the song grew to lengthy 9 minutes with Daniel adding his piece. He then decided that Barbarian's piece would serve best as the final but did major edits to the songs production. He turned the second part in to an unrecognizable funky and fast paced melodic piece where Barbarian's vocal spans from many ranges.

"This song is very unusual, considering that it is over 9 minutes long. I think with mainstream music you're suppose to narrow things down to 4 minutes or less but I felt like it was cool for us to keep it lengthy. The ultimate goal is to make people feel like they are listening to this whole song in less than 4 minutes when it reality is 9. In order for us to do that we had to make sure the song was melodic and balanced the catchy moments with the repetitive beat that is carried throughout the whole song. I get really bored easily when it comes to simple R&B, unless it's something that's coming from the heart and you can genuinely feel what the person is singing but when it comes to something playful like this, I need to bring something that will stand out and make the person want to listen to it over and over again. Also, when it comes to R&B, we are so used to hearing the same beat being played over and over and that itself is growing to be very boring. Daniel really helped me create something that not only sounded R&B but also would draw in the pop music fans and that's important because this song isn't a serious record. In terms of the concept and lyrics the song very explicit and I wanted to do that because the song is raunchy itself and I didn't want to limit the nastyness. But, so far I noticed that noticed that I've been throwing all my ex's under the bus in many of my songs and I didn't want to turn myself into the R&B version of Taylor Swift. So I decided to kind of bow down to the idea that instead of breaking up and leaving, I'm me kind of asking for it or even begging for it one last time. That's why tha very last part of the song, the beat sort of picks up, becuase there's a twist to the ending. Like, despite you being a cheater, before you leave out that door, just fuck my brains out one last time. It's just that bold and straightforward" - Barbarian

In the terms of production, The song begins with a spooky dramatic intro that leads into the 80's inspired beat . Barbarian's falsetto vocals keep the song stuck into its roots and is carried over with seductive belting. The beat and production is continues, spanning for over 4 minutes until the bridge begins to seperate the song, growing a little more agressive and powerfully both vocally and lyrically. The bridge itself however is a bit melodramatic until finally the beat drops into a more groovy and dancey "Billie Jean" and "Beat It" inspired beat. Barbarian's voice is presented as more confident and lyrics grow more ranchy. The beat is then joined with electronic adlibs, electric guitars and disco flavored funk. This section also contains heavy panting, moaning and breathing. As the song reaches closer to the end, the songs production grows dry to just drum, and guitar causing a cool flashback effect. This however doesn't last very long, the song's production picks up as soon as the chorus creeps its way back in and the song draws more disco influence both vocally and in production. The song ends with the shouting of lyrics.

Adam: First of all, wowzerz! Those legs, I'm pretty sure if you looked at me for even a second, I may very well just drop down dead. The music is also the sort of music that makes my innocent cheeks turn red, which can only be the aim when writing a song, right? It's very, very good. I like it!

OOC: Great work so far, I love the ITunes style promo that you've done, it looks amazingly professional! :)

3. Forget Her

Album: "Love.Sex.Magic."
Recorded: February 2013
Writer/Composer: Barbara Harris "Barbarian", Throat Cutters
Producer: Barbarian, Daniel, Throat Cutters
Length: 3:22
Genres: R&B, Experimental
Instruments: Guitar, synthesizer, piano, drums and percussion
Record Label: Hot Eye Records

Song Description & Background:

"Forget Her" is a song by American recording artist Barbarian taken from her debut studio album "Love.Sex.Magic.". The album itself is set to be released November 3, 2013 through the support of Hot Eye Records. The song was written by Barbarian and produced by Throat Cutters. The song was recorded in Japan inside Stephanie Fierce's personal recording studio and contains an experimental approach with electronic rhythm and blues and EDM beats. The song will be made available for individual digital download on November 3, 2013 once the album is released.

Barbarian originally intended to write the song for Daniel to record, but she loved the song's potential so much that she decided it would work best for her album instead. At the time the album was titled "ID", so the song was catering to a more traditional R&B Sound but when her vision for the album shifted over the months she decided to give the song a little bit of spunk and maybe dive in to the electronic sound that most R&B acts are forced to go with in order to keep up with the selling market. However, it wouldn't be until Daniel showcased the song to Stephanie Fierce, that the song would received that spunk the song desperately needed. Stephanie Fierce suggested that Barbarian allowed Throat Cutters to produce the record and add experimental elements to the song. After Throat Cutters received the demo, they were incredibly impressed by the song's potential and invited Barbarian to fly out to Japan, where Throat Cutters took care of Stephanie Fierce's infamous recording studio and record it right then and there. After Barbarian flew out, she arrived and immediately began work on the track, in which Daniel assisted on vocal arrangements and mixing. The song turned in to something completely different and unexpected and immediately Barbarian requested that song made the track-list no matter what.

"Forget Her is one of my favorite songs from the album because I finally feel like a record is bringing some sort of innovation to R&B music. This is no where near a classic rhythm ad blues sound, but it does incorporates contemporary R&B with all the EDM stuff that's popular on the radio nowadays. My taste in music however, ranges from many genres such as alternative rock and pop rock, but my ultimate favorite genre is classic R&B. However, R&B music can be very repetitive nowadays and as of right now, urban music is taking over classic rhythm and blues. That's the cold truth. In terms of the R&B genre, all you hear on the radio nowadays is club urban music, which in my opinion is great and all and despite it making its way to my album, it's somewhat unfortunate because it really is brings down the classics that I love. All it leads to is artists making videos that require them to 'twerk' or strip down their bodies to a pole. That's not what R&B and 'urban' music is all about. This song in particular is EDM friendly but maintains that emotional front that classic R&B has. When you listen to it, you don't immediately wanted start shaking your ass, you actually want to sit and listen. In other words, It's emotional but it wont necessarily put you to sleep.

It's very interesting because when I sent the song out to Daniel, he loved it so much that he wanted Stephanie Fierce to hear it. Stephanie Fierce doesn't really handle my music but she took the time out to hear it and that's when she offered me to go to Japan to re-record the song with the Throat Cutters, who are known for their specialty in electronic music. Of course, I immediately accepted the offer but next thing you know I was in Japan in some recording studio, matter of fact not any recording studio but Stephanie Fierce's personal recording studio doing the unexpected and that's when I realized that I am actually a star now. All this time I had been recording but I didn't actually feel like it was real for some odd reason. It all it me right then and there that this song may be put out in stores along with the other sibling of songs. It's amazing how recording this simple song made me feel like a star and I think that's where all the inspiration and creativity derived from. It was a magical moment
- Barbarian

The song takes place right after "Turn My Body Out/Fuck My Brains Out" where Barbarian and her ex lover have traditionally made up. In the song she claims that she will make her ex lover forget about the girl he cheated Barbarian with and humbly draw him back in to they love they had through various offers. Barbarian's lyrics almost come off as dominant and what a male would most likely say to a female.

The song's production begins with a sudden cry which is quickly followed by smashing synths. The song includes amplified background vocalist from Throat Cutters which is edited with the effects of auto-tune and other vocal arrangement effects. Barbarian's vocals however remain untouched and organic. An electronic keyboard is also heard with a haunting production of minimalism which was arranged by Daniel. The minimalism is what gives the song that experimental touch, combining the electronic world of music, EDM and rhythm and blues. The song's structure mainly consists of the electronic keyboard, the minimalism and smashing synths right until the song reaches the middle section, where minimal EDM production is heard with a synthesized electronic guitar, that leads out to more cries from the Throat Cutter's vocalist. Barbarian's voice is also distorted but only in minimal sections towards the end of the song.

Writer/Composer: Barbara Harris "Barbarian"
Producer: Song Dynasty
Length: 4:27
Genres: Hip-Hop
Instruments: Guitar, synthesizer, piano, drums and percussion
Record Label: Hot Eye Records

Song Description & Background:

"No Games (Get Money)" is a song by American recording artist Barbarian taken from her debut studio album "Love.Sex.Magic.". The album itself is set to be released November 3, 2013 through the support of Hot Eye Records. The song was written by Barbarian and produced by Song Dynasty. The song is the first song on the album to contain rapping from Barbarian, and showcases a more urban side that had yet to be showcased in the first four tracks of the album. The song will be made available for individual digital download on November 3, 2013 once the album is released.

The fifth track on the album is a game changer for the album. The first four tracks on the "Love.Sex.Magic" were more about the concept and idea of sex and love and the songs also remained strict to the R&B/soul roots. "No Games (Get Money" takes the album to a more serious turn as Barbarian opens up about her life in the ghetto days and how she had to hustle with her mother by fighting to get a modeling contract to earn some money and move out. The lyrical content also opens up about things Barbarian had to do get to where she is today in the industry involving an unfortunate rape that she witnessed in the process of her fame. The song has two sections. The first section consists of a more poetic retelling of her story with catchy hooks and talk-singing lyricism. The second section is a more aggressive hip-hop fusion section with distorted deep vocal effects, the song then catapults to a mega orchestral gospel flavored beat where Barbarian begins to rap in a more serious tone.

Barbarian began writing the song in the studio after a very rough day at the Hot Eye Records office. Harris buzz single "Get in Line" had failed to meet the success the label was hoping, despite it only being a buzz single. It was October 2012 and Barbarian's debut album was far away from receiving a green light for release. Barbarian new that sooner or later it was going back to the drawing board, but that angered her because she had put so much thought into that reggae fusion sound she was going for. It was then when she reminded herself that the industry is no joke when it comes to crafting a hit single . She began writing the verses and without realizing she was actually rapping. Not that rapping is foreign to Barbarian, but she did not intend on becoming a rapper in the music industry or at least so soon into her career. When she began writing the verses, she was instantly hooked with the idea of being allowed to have more aggression and spit in her lyrics. The more she wrote the more came out of her and the more the song became personal. Her producer watching her made her want to make it as good as possible, as she wanted to impress him.

"This record is really personal to me but it honestly would not have come to life, if it wasn't for the experiences I was going through in the early stages of recording "Love.Sex.Magic". I didn't expect myself to be an open book, but I felt like it was something organic, nothing was forced so I didn't stop myself from writing and opening up. People really think it was easy for me to get here and it wasn't, I had to fight like everyone else. In top of it all, I didn't have a foundation, I had to prove myself and start from the bottom, literally. I didn't have a singing competition to launch my career and I didn't come off a viral video uploaded on youtube. The pressure was on and that's why it all came crashing down on me. The whole project itself. I knew that there were going to be moments that were going to be very frustrating but I didn't expect to feel so disappointed so early into my record deal. I literally called Daniel up and he told me that I couldn't put the blame on no one, this was my record and he was giving me the chance to express my artistic vision. Ge was definitively correct about that, but it was not that I was putting the blame on anybody else, I was more disappointed in myself than anything because I had a vision as an artist, it just wasn't very clear and it ruined the whole project and I didn't know what to do because I had never really executive produced an album. I almost regret releasing "Get in Line" and putting so much passion in to it because it really threw off the whole vibe. I literally spend so many days learning the bones of that song. I don't regret the song, I regret releasing it if were to be honest. But that release is what gave me the courage to write a song about me and how much I want this. It's a hustle and if you really want it you can't play no games" - Barbarian

"Barbarian is the type of girl that doesn't give up. People don't quite know that about her yet but they will eventually. I was watching her record Enough, and I was completely blown away by her vocals. I had heard some of her other R&B records and she didn't showcase that vocal skill in those records and that's because she wants her powerhouse vocals to be a gimmick. However, that's why I was a bit worried when she approached me with "No Games (Get Money)" because I thought she was restricted and I didn't have much expectations from her. I really did not expect to see her have this sort of swag to her voice when she jumped on this cut. She literally wrote the verse in like an hour. I could tell there was a lot of passion in her in the studio that day and I just sat there watching her. I didn't want to bother her creative process or rush her, because I could tell she was creating something special. At the same time she was on my clock, so that just shows how grateful I was towards her and how much I believed in her." - Song Dynasty
