Album : Epiphany Track : Trap Life Artist : Rum ( & Coke ) Genre : Alternative Hip Hop Label : Tric-Jam Records Written by : Nina Tarantino Produced by : NinaT and Flame 1 & 2 Length : 4:46
Trap Life is the anticipated songs on the whole album . It is the first track on ' Epiphany ' that Rum actually sings on . Ever since announced that Rum has decided to bring out her singing on their sophomore album , many people got excited , waiting to see exactly what the Cuban-Bajan-American rapper's voice would sound like . Finally after months of waiting , Rum & Coke performed on the Goldies and the first song performed was ' John Smith ' which features Rum's singing . All were stunned by her voice and it added a lot to the pile of anticipation Rum & Coke already had for ' Epiphany ' .
There's no one quite like Rum , who has the sultry inflection of Nelly Furtado, the disposition of Rihanna, and the majestically raw vocal prowess of Amy Winehouse and Fiona Apple- all with a Cuban accent of course . No one really expected that from the rapper . Especially after singing ' Chainless ' on the first Rum & Coke album , ' Venom & Versace ' , which she says was drowned in auto-tune . Her voice is magically complex and intoxicating , definitely something unforgettable . In this song Rum uses her voice as a weapon. It's meant to use the lyrics and the power of it to cut sharp and deep, straight to the chambers of the weak person's heart that she seems to be talking about controlling in ' Trap Life ' . The beat helps capture that throughout the song .
You kind of notice how at the beginning of the song , an electric guitar is played and somehow manages to play riffs that sound similar to a ' tick tock ' , almost saying time is out and then the hard beat slams in as Rum starts the song , almost as something is being broke down piece by piece . The music used to support all of the lyrics in this whole album are not just " dope " and " catchy " but artistic , and once again in a one of the song , using the music to fit right in and perfect the lyrics . At first Rum sings in a laid back tone , during the verses and the pre-hook , almost like she's taunting the person who fell into her trap and then in the hook , she begins to sing with more power , almost like she's warning others but at the same time still talking to that one person . Once the bridge comes in she uses the same amount of power in the hook to almost scream the lyrics as she sings them . The bridge eventually winds down by the end of it and then she goes on to the pre-hook and hook singing in that same " aftermath " tone .
Evaluation
6. Trap Life Hollywood and 7. Fria Mundo ( Cold World )
So after the 3 songs about slipping in and out of reality , Rum & Coke sums it all up with ' Trap Life ' to kind of explain what those 3 songs were about for all the ones who didn't get it . ' Failed Escape ' , ' But It Felt Good ' , and ' In The Moment ' are technically songs written about trying to deal with the consequences that the song ' Trap Life ' mentions . For example , in this song , it's basically an example of what goes down in Hollywood when you unknowingly get caught up in it's ridicule and after all the fun , you now have to pay a price . In the pre-hook of ' But It Felt Good ' , the last few lines sung say , | Just staying away from reality | Tryna forget the price I gotta pay ... | . In the song ' But It felt Good ' , it revolves around the person using drugs to dissociate and in this song's pre-hook , the lines say | And why you're always poppin' mollies | But not for the same reason they do ? | ( the whole ' but not for the same reason they do ' part making it clear that it's not like that person is just using heavy drugs and etc. for fun ) . And last but not least in ' Failed Escape ' the lyrics talk about how fame is a cage while in this song , " Hollywood " taunts this person by telling them how much they control them with the lines | So now you're feet just move on the pavement I paved for you | And now you only wear the shoes that I buy for you | .
The lyrics in ' Trap Life ' are really figurative , ( I guess Rum wrote it that way to make it seem more like trap life instead of just Hollywood ) , starting with the name ' Trap Life ' . Trap life is slang for the lifestyle of a drug dealer . Funny it's called that by the many who are involved because it literally is a trap . Once you get so deep into it , there's only really 2 ways out of it : jail or death . In a way this could be a way of explaining the life of a celebrity involved in the evil in the industry . Not everybody seeking a life in Hollywood is oblivious to the lifestyle behind the scenes . It's actually rare that someone finds themselves famous without already being a puppet for the occult or without intentions of being one . It always seems like the way to go to someone who's lost because of the perks : money and fame . Sometimes people are forced into it ( threatened and etc. after somehow getting famous without being a puppet ) and other times people are raised into it ( being MKed at a young age or being the child of someone in it ) .
This whole song is about somebody who didn't pay attention to all the warning given and is now stuck in the quicksand of Hollywood . Nina talks on how the life of a puppet is controlled and scripted | So now you're feet just move on the pavement I paved for you | And now you only wear the shoes that I buy for you | and also how people are lured into the life saying | You pictured your name in flashing lights | But cropped out ... the image of the price | and warned others in the hook with the lines | Be careful for what you wish | and | Glamorized to the highest | But you better know for exactly what reason that is ... | and sums up the whole thing in the bridge | And the moment you got it you finally felt ... achieved , achieved | But the moment you realize it's not what it seems | It too late | With this song , Rum & Coke finishes the whole section of talking about the Illuminati . The real aim for this album was to give people an epiphany about the NWO and so they only tapped on the Illuminati for a few tracks . The next song following it is almost used as a skit , transitioning into a new topic right after it , which is the NWO . Nina sings one in Spanish and Coke sings it for later on in the album in English . It's one of the many blatant tracks that Rum & Coke wrote and recorded for ' Epiphany ' on the topic .
8. Free From This , 9. Ain't What It Seems , 10. Wake Up and 11. Painted Faces
Following ' Frio Mundo ' are 4 more blatant songs about/against the NWO . Though they are all made on the same topic , they all talk about different methods used by the NWO to distort the public and to get them on their knees . For example , ' Free From This ' talks about how the NWO teams up with Illuminati to promote themselves . ( Well actually the Illuminati promotes the NWO because it's a " part " of it , when you think about it . To make sure the NWO is successful is pretty much the " aim " of the Illuminati . Once all that happens , who knows what's next . ) It also touches on Rum saying no to being a puppet and she lays out the truth of the whole thing . | I got 2 eyes and they work perfectly fine | So you sittin' here tryin' to tell me this is the way , lets me know that you're blind | That's pretty much all to it . The puppets are controlled by puppets who are controlled by puppets who listen to a devil who's known for his deceivement and is telling them to lie and cover up things to deceive others . So ... yea . It's just all idiocy .
' Ain't What It Seems ' is about the NWO overall . It doesn't really focus on the method's used , but does point out some small details about the NWO and warning others about it . At first the song starts off with | No it ain't what it seems | and then goes on to say | Cause we can't plan to succeed | If we're all fast asleep | and then pointing out the ironic phrase on the back of the dollar bill , ' In God We Trust ' , though it's surrounded by several occult symbols | And you wonder why life's so tough | 'Cause in the wrong people you put yo' trust | God knows they're the wrong people to trust ... | and to top it off , | Distorted visions of what we call free | .
Then in ' Wake Up ' , Rum highlights on the fact that the government doesn't care about anyone unless they have some change in their pocket and how ironically only certain people are supposed to be rich anyway . That's the thing with this world . If you are born in the middle class and lower , you are meant to stay right there for the rest of your life . Usually all the big paying jobs like CEO's and successful business owners are ( that's right , you guessed it ! ) reserved for all the puppets out there . Which runs right into the nonexistent " American dream " that Rum also mentions in the lines , | They got you chasing the dream and you're all caught up | .
And last but not least , ' Painted Faces ' . Here's the previous article I wrote on it :
Quote:The lyrics are obviously based on the governments most common techniques to get everybody on their knees and keep them distracted from the real corruptness . Something like , " Hey ! We're the richest economy in the world but ... err ... you guys are all broke ! How ? Well the ceiling is falling ... the White House is off the cliff ... something like that . Here , check the binders ! That's what they say ! It's uhmm ... the terrorists ... China ... YES ! It's China's fault . "
And then after that , the song goes on to say how they are determined to expose all the bullshit about the world we live in . Then in the second verse Coke talks about World War 3 and that the NWO are most likely planning as we speak . That will probably come first which will get everyone on their knees and then the government will then propose the NWO . That's why they have all these method's , so that after they have all hell break loose , they can seem like heroes when they come out with this NWO thing and everybody would be pretty much convinced and just give in . And if that doesn't work , they have the Illuminati advertising them and inserting it all in our subconscious' anyway .
[Verse 1] They told you to set a price Of what you're willin' to gain and lose And if it ever became too expensive Then the game isn't for you Too bad you didn't listen 'Cause now you're payments are due You said you'd do anything for it Do you realize how far I could stretch anything to ?
[Pre-Hook] So now you're feet just move on the pavement I paved for you And now you only wear the shoes that I buy for you
I wonder why you don't speak of Holly In the same tone you used to And why you're always poppin' mollies But not for the same reason they do ?
[Hook] Trap life Be careful for what you wish 'Cause everything thing advertised isn't what it is Trap life Glamorized to the highest But you better know for exactly what reason that is ...
[Verse 2] And it is was what you forgot you knew That left you so damn vulnerable The fast lane called for you ... You pictured your name in flashing lights But cropped out ... the image of the price And that's how you got schooled
[Pre-Hook] And now you're feet just move on the pavement I paved for you And now you only wear the shoes that I buy for you
I wonder why you don't speak of Holly In the same tone you used to And why you're always poppin' mollies But not for the same reason they do ?
[Hook] Trap life Be careful for what you wish 'Cause everything thing advertised isn't what it is Trap life Glamorized to the highest But you better know for exactly what reason that is ...
[Bridge] Fell into your ... dream , dream Cause if you want it , you got it That's all that you ... need , need And the moment you got it you finally felt ... achieved , achieved But the moment you realize it's not what it seems It's too late
[Pre-Hook] And now you're feet just move on the pavement I paved for you And now you only wear the shoes that I buy for you
I wonder why you don't speak of Holly In the same tone you used to And why you're always poppin' mollies I wonder why you don't speak of Holly I wonder why you don't speak of Holly
[Hook] Trap life Be careful for what you wish 'Cause everything thing advertised isn't what it is
Album : Epiphany Track : Frio Mundo Artist : Rum ( & Coke ) Genre : Spanish Alternative Label : Tric-Jam Records Written by : Nina Tarantino , Airemese Smith Produced by : NinaT and inZane Length : 2:45
Rum continues to amaze critics with her voice as she goes on to sing ' Frio Mundo ' ( ' Cold World ' in Spanish ) after singing ' Trap life ' . Rum's vocals in this song are nice and sharp in the beginning and they give off a determined feel when she begins to almost chant | Pero me he hecho a la idea ... no | and sings at the end of the song | Todo imperio fuerte ... Debe caer algun dia . | A guitar is lightly played throughout the whole song , perfectly matching up with Rum's singing . Once again , another song on this album cuts deep into your mind and makes you think . The guitar fits so right with the vocals that you can't help but keep this short lived song on replay .
[Hook] Pero me he hecho a la idea ... no Pero me he hecho a la idea ... no Pero me he hecho a la idea ... no
[Verse 2] Frío mundo ... que mas puedo decir ? Te burlas de mi cuando estoy ciego Y me tortura cuando estoy despierto Frío mundo ... que mas puedo decir ? Todo imperio fuerte ... Debe caer algun dia .
Album : Epiphany Track : Free From This Artist : Rum ( & Coke ) ft. Yasmine Genre : Alternative Hip Hop Label : Tric-Jam Records Written by : Nina Tarantino Produced by : NinaT , inZane and Flame 1&2 Length : 4:09
' Have Your Epiphany ' is definitely one of the most " vibable " songs on ' Epiphany ' . It features up and coming singer Yasmine , who usually sings Indie Folk/Rock/Pop . Unlike in her previous songs that she's been singing , Yasmine gets to use her monophonic voice in a fun way on this track . Rum finally begins to rap for the second time on this album after the 1st song ' Fear Not ' and the other 3 tracks she's on before this have all been her singing . This has been predicted to be the song that will get the most mainstream success because , unlike pretty much every other song on this album , it is upbeat and not only that , but really catchy . On this song , Rum raps like the old Rum we remember , way back when Rum & Coke were just famous Youtubers .
The song starts off with just snaps as Rum says the intro and then it runs right into Yasmine vocalizing and Rum continuing to say the pre-hook . Soon enough that trails into the still hook sung by Yasmine and then next thing you know Rum is spitting line after line . The 4 minutes of the song do go by quickly because you stay entertained the whole time by the beat and the way Rum frequently changes the pitch and tempo of her voice , as if she's actually talking to you and telling you some juicy gossip . Yasmine vocalizes throughout the whole song in the same rhythm , which kind of creates an add on to the beat . Once again Rum raps about something other than the basic ' hoes , drugs and money ' topics that other rappers seem to always rap about in this song . Her flow in this song has been called by critics " invigorating and gripping " as she uses the techniques of rapping like she's gossiping to pull in the crowd and also educate them by aiming to give them their " epiphany " . Yasmine's voice in the still beat completes the whole thing as the hook ends the song . Everything in and about this song works together perfectly and the constant changes in the beat of the song that differ from Yasmine's vocals to snaps and a still beat to a stimulating one tops it all off .

[Pre-Hook] B-b-blow your motherfucking mind ( Oh woah oh oh-ohh ) Puff puff pass the knowledge to your right side ( Oh woah oh oh-ohh ) Take it how you wanna , Imma put it aside ( Oh woah oh oh-ohh ) Perceive it if you wanna 'cause Imma put it down like ... ( Oh woah oh oh-ohh )
[Hook] Open your eyes ... take a breath Don't be scared ... take my hand Even though ... you might not know Trust me yo' ... you wanna be ... free from this
[Verse 1] I've seen things you could never live with Things that would blind your vision Face it , Nina's life isn't something you'd wanna deal with On a daily basis , all I saw was ghost and painted faces Nowadays all I see is the raiders , the raided and the overrated The money makers , paper chasers and hypnotists along the oasis Obligated , is there a such thing as a safe haven ? Obfuscated , what sense is this making ? Objection ! What does this have to do with me ? Why the fuck do I care if you have your epiphany ? Shit , Ionn' know , maybe freedom is overrated But that's yo' decision You want a piece of the pie ? Make yo' incision Life is so much easier when YOU decide the way you're gonna live it The world would be too , but we're too incoherent 7 billion , couldn't make peace if we tried , too bad our life depends on it ...
[Hook] The truth came out ... it's on you now Back away ... or you could stay Don't be scared ... take my hand Trust me yo ... you wanna be ... free from this
[Verse 2] Who the hell is this ? Callin' my phone at 3:26 Sittin' here tryna tell me how to live Like Imma give up my morals for a few cents , nah , Rum has entirely too much sense ... To be lured into a crap deal Uh , what the fuck am I gonna do with a few toys and a Happy Meal ? Like damn , I got more and lost less in a crack deal I even learned shit on the way , I'm being forreal ! But I left that life , so what makes you think that I Will redo the curse of ignorance that was implanted on my life I got 2 eyes and they work perfectly fine So you sittin' here tryin' to tell me this is the way , lets me know that you're blind I could obtain all success ? You're just wasting my time I could do that if I wanted , just biding my time Now look , I'm 22 , loyal , intact and at my prime How ? Because I was never settled on the dimes Why chase a diamond when I could have the mine ? Isn't perseverance the key to what you want in life ?
[Hook] They say the truth will ... set you free Look around ... nothing's what it seems That I know ... and you will too Trust me yo' ... because I'm ... free from this
