AUBREY MIKKEL [feat. Kid Amaze] - "VICTIMIZED" [REMIX] Genre: R&B, Hip Hop Release Date: 10/13/13 Label: North Hill Records Writers: Aubrey Mikkel, Kid Amaze Producer:Jerry DuplessisBrief Background
"Victimized" is the first single taken from Aubrey Mikkel's soon to be titled sophomore album which is set to be released in the fall of 2013. Like her previous releases, Aubrey stays in her comfort zone. The urban roots of R&B and Hip Hop music where Aubrey has found her success starting from her early days in music. Songs like "Savior" and "Fire's Burning" which show. Aubrey is her most comfortable manner became two of her biggest records in her career to date. The new record "Victimized" was recorded in Los Angeles, California with Aubrey Mikkel writing the track solely with the production being done by the Haitian born producer and music composer, Jerry 'Wonder" Duplessis in April of 2013. Both Aubrey and Duplessis didn't want to completely take Aubrey out of her comfort zone with the loud instruments of her previous records and proclaiming beats but at the same time wanted to try something a bit different. A record where her vocals and the lyrical content can do the speaking behind an eerie beat where the listener can not only enjoy the minimal production effects but could really embrace the story being told from the powerfully vocal Aubrey Mikkel who tells quite an un-orthodoxed story throughout the song itself making it a very relaxing but still captivating and interesting to listen to.
Less is more is probably something that could go well with this record. Less of a massive production background that often comes with a big bass-line and huge chorus. Mikkel and Duplessis create something more easy on the ears that would make a listener want to listen to it often because the record does not become overbearing but the type of record that is deep and moving with production that will have you bopping your head as you listen to the strong vocal delivery by Aubrey Mikkel and the proclaiming chorus that may stun you lyrically. The two R&B lovers, the producer Jerry.. and the song writer and vocalist, Aubrey, come together to offer the perfect record to re-introduce Aubrey for her new album that she gets ready to release this fall.
Track Description "Victimized" catches your ear right away. The song starts right away in a very eerie sense with the coo of Aubrey's, she's humming over the opening seconds of the record. Her hums sound deep with the dark opening of the record that may already proclaim the listeners ear for more. Still there's no actual vocals that begin within the record for approximately the first 30 seconds of the record as you take in the early hums of Mikkel and dark instrumentation presented in the early seconds of the record. At around the :31 mark, the song breaks in into a beat bopping R&B/HipHop driven backing beat that includes clapping beats and a quick moving bassline that doesn't get too overbearing. When that happens, Aubrey wastes no time in bringing out her emotional vocals in the song. Sounding sad, but still telling the story, she opens up the story she's about to tell: He said I was the one he was waiting for|I swear I never felt this way before|You got eyes deep enough to take a midnight swim|Inside you're fine like a diamond or even worth more|A beautiful soul, one I could adore. Aubrey sings over the continuous humming, hip hop beat and eerie manner of the song as she explains the words a man has said to her that includes the man explaining that she had deep eyes and an beautiful inside and soul. She continues with the next lines of the song, the record still staying at the same pace. He said I was different, all he longed for |He wanted a bite of my love, he felt it was right |Am I suppose to surrender to his appetite?|I tried to be polite, told him I am not your type |Like a warning in advance |But he never gave up, told me give him a chance |For some reason I let him in...|And little did he know he would become a victim. With the lines being sung, Aubrey continues her story as she now explains that she is not interested in this guy who has seemingly fell in love with her quickly but still let him in because he wouldn't give up on her, despite her telling him that she wasn't interested, like a warning, he still went in for her and at the end of it all he became a victim.
With those last lines being sung with Aubrey holding a note for "victim" showing her vocal prowess the track swiftly moves into the chorus, and if you thought this was a regular breakup story you are wrong. The chorus comes in with the beats still maintaining it's same speed with a few bass notes being added to the chorus. Aubrey singles emotionally connected to the lyrics of this eerie record: I became his drug |I picked up, to the sky ...|I made him feel, so damn high (so damn high) But then I left him there victimized (victimized)|I should be charged with a hateful crime (hateful crime)|Because the boy is dead, he took his life (took his life)|Yes the boy is dead, he took his life (took his life)|And it's so-so sad that I'm the reason why (the reason why). The story of the record is now in full, and you may be taken aback by the circumstances of the record. Aubrey continues to explain that she has left this guy victimized and that she should be charged with a crime because the boy she has left victimized has killed himself. The echoes of almost every ending word of the chorus lines adds to the eerie-ness of the record as the song has developed from a love story to explaining the circumstances of someone falling so deeply in love with someone that when she leaves him, he kills himself. The haunting lyrics may send chills down sometimes spine as Aubrey sings with much emotion getting the story across.
As the chorus fades out, as the beat continues to move swiftly, Aubrey continues to develop the story, going back in the past, prior to the mans suicide. She coos out: He said, I am the one you need, baby|I know you don't see it but it's meant to be Good luck finding another man that'll take you to the great seas |I must admit, he got me thinking, cause he seemed so at ease |He was blinded by the picture I began to paint on his brain|As I began to fuck around with his heart, had him left in shame. Aubrey now explains what the girl in the story has done to get the main to go off the deep end. Although she let him begin to prove himself, she also begin to mess around and leave the guy in shame. She continues on with her big and emotional vocals as she recalls the man said: He said, you're playing me with your charms, please don't do this to me |I need you in my arms, without you here with me is the end for me |I keep imagining all I’d do to you, just give me some time |Please don't leave me here, I won't survive |I shook it off ready to move on in spite |Then he took me on the worst ride of my life. At this point the record becomes very climatic. Aubrey explains of the time right before the man kills himself as he tells her to stop hurting him and how much he wants to do for her, even all the way down to explaining that without her he won't survive, and yet and still the spiteful female protagonist still moves on until she is brought back to reality because the man has done the unthinkable. The chorus then finds way back onto the track as Aubrey once again sings the saddest part of the record. Her, the female, being the reason why the man has taken his life. That could be something hard to live with. The chorus, just like before is very emotionally driven as her vocals stand out as being strong.
Following the chorus, the bridge moves onto the track that is most likely taking place in the present thoughts of the female in the record: It's like his ghost is following me, I can't run away|I warned you from the start, I am no lover to make|I'm so sorry baby... yeah baby....R.I.P...oh yeaah...|Stabbed your heart with a sharp knife|Smashed your brain with my punch lines|I guess I'm a cold blooded lover |Since you're not here anymore |I'm so sorry baby... yeah baby....R.I.P...oh yeaah.../ Aubrey belts out the chorus as she sings out to the man who killed themselves for the female she is playing in the record saying sorry and RIP. Aubrey belts out "I'm so sorry baby.. yeah baby...R.I.P...oh yeah" that may get your thinking of whether a guy really did kill themselves because of the emotion Aubrey holds in her vocals. As she finishes up the bridge the chorus finds its way back on for the last time as she sings the chorus back to back as the hauntingly eerie songs comes to a very end as it fades away.
Song Meaning
The song is written to explain a love story that has gone terribly wrong. It's not just the simple, you broke my heart story but goes way deeper and darker than that. Take a female, then there's the male who is trying everything in his power to get with this girl. The girl, feels bad and gets convinced somehow, and gives him a chance. Shortly after, she begins to play around and break his heart. From there, the girl leaves him down and out by leaving him on spite, only to find out that he has become victimize by her because he has killed himself, committed suicide because of this cold blooded loving female. The RemixOn October of 2013, Aubrey Mikkel has officially announced the official remix of "Victimized" which features rapper Kid Amaze. Speculation of the remix came just weeks after the regular version of the song was released and topped the Airplay charts. Aubrey announced that the remix was in the works and would appear as a deluxe addition track on "No Love Lost", which hits stores on the 24th of November. Further more, for weeks on in Aubrey's fans have been itching to hear the remixed single, frequently tweeting the R&B superstar to release the single for each of them to hear. Aubrey never really got back to those tweets until this very day where she announced on twitter that the official remix of the heartbreaking record would premiere at 8 pm est.
On the remix, the initial sound of the record is still as the record fades in. The very eerie sense of the song starts off with the coo of Aubrey's, she's humming over the opening seconds of the record. Her hums sound deep with the dark opening of the record that may already proclaim the listeners ear as the original record already entailed. Further more after just a few seconds of coos, you can hear Kid Amaze's voice. His voice sounding vulnerable and weak as he murmers How could you do this to me ..?/I thought it was you and me ../Why'd you do this to me?/I thought it was you and me. The production put on his voice makes him sound ghostly. After those lines are hard, Aubrey's voice is heard as she sings through the track.
After the second chorus, Kid Amaze's verse comes upon the record. He explains his side of the story from the male catalysts point of few. All the hardships that the female had put him through, before his suicide and death. He explains that throughout it all, he continued to pursue her all the way until the end of their heartbreaking story. He ends his line with: Man, I lost it how could have this been so wrong/It’s too late to change because I’m ready gone/I'm already gone LYRICS Brown - Kid Amaze Black - Aubrey Mikkel How could you do this to me ..?
