Mkay so ... who hasn't heard of Lotus by now ? Whether she's known for being a blogger , a model , a rapper or the girlfriend of " King " Kendrick , her name has clearly been stuck in EVERYBODY'S throat and she is quickly beginning to rise up in the industry with absolutely no experience , no help and in such short time . To be precise , a good 3 weeks . And you know what ? From the looks of it , we're starting to think that's all she needs . Only God knows how high she will soar when her career hits that 1 year mark . We met up with her earlier today and talked with her for a little bit right after she gave us access and permission to send out a little sneak peek of the masterpiece she has just finished stirring up in the studio as of late . Read the interview below and check out the snippet of the new single ! " Are you ready for the reign ? Too bad . "
Billboard : First and foremost , we just want to say how proud we are of you . Releasing your single is probably the best investment we ever put in someone and the fact that we get to sit here and say that we were here first and we were by Lotus' side from literally day 1 is mind blowing because you are becoming so big in such little time and we already see the biggest of big things in your future .
Lotus : Oh wow , thank you so much . Really means a lot and I am very glad that you guys were on board with helping me out with my first single . It was a hit and I am now everywhere and so I have no choice but to give you guys props ... and bragging rights . [Giggles]
B : Haha , thanks darling . We'll make sure to use them selectively . It's only been about 3 weeks and 3 of your songs have already been released to the public and are on charts and playing on the radio and everything . Is this a pattern we will see in your career ? Will you be releasing music this often or is it just this once ?
L : I'm not one to procrastinate , especially when it's something I really love , so throughout my career it will depend on the audience's reaction to my material when it comes to how often I'm going to release . Then there will be times I feel like people slept on my single and so I'll hit back harder with another one when I feel it's the right moment . What I'm saying is , everything goes by my calendar and I know with me , everything depends on what I think is best , so if everything goes according to plan and the way I want it to , then yes . I'll try to release a good single or 3 every month I feel like being active .
B : Wow . That's a lot of material for just one month . How does your manager and team feel about these plans ?
L : Well actually , I don't have a manager or a team or anything . This is a one woman band right now and I'm taking care of everything for myself career-wise without any help or a label . So my " professional opinion " on this [Laughs] is that it will most likely help . If an artist wanted , they could release a single everyday . There's no specific time frame you have to wait , so if I have material I'm just going to make sure each single has enough time to stand on it's own and then get right back to business . It worked with [Leader Of The Pack] and [On The Curb] so I just have to make sure that my music continues to be that good and everything will be fine .
B : All by yourself and you have gotten this far . That's amazing . These days everyone pretty much depends on falling back on their label when soemthing goes wrong and the fact that your support is based firmly on fans , sound kind of risky .
L : It is , but I'm willing to take that chance . I know that I didn't get big overnight for no reason so I don't have to worry about disappearing out of the public eye without a trace .
B : Well we wish you lots of success in your career . We know it's keeping you super busy taking care of things all by yourself . Going back to what we were just talking about . When can we expect your next single ?
L : Within the next 2 weeks maybe . Still deciding at the moment .
B : Oh , you're already done with it ? You really aren't waiting on anybody for this . [Laughs]
L : [Laughs] Nope . I'm focused on reaching the stars and then knocking them down , not being a star in everyone's eyes . That's where a lot of people mess up . Your mentality has to be right for you to attain anything in this business .
B : That's true . Many artist start off with keeping their eyes on the prize , but then get blinded by the flashing lights and end up forgetting what they stand for . We've seen many top our charts and never show up on them again because of it .
L : Yep . I'm not trying to go broke just so I can tell everyone I'm famous . I want my music to make all that happen . That's the only way you know it's not authentic .
B : Mhmm . So tell us , any future collaborations coming up ? Will everything in time be ' featuring Lotus ' ?
L : Ha , I have a few coming up but not that many . Not trying to shove Lotus down you guy's throats . [Laughs]
B : [Laughs] We understand . Can you tell us about any ?
L : Like I said , I have a few , but nothing that official . It's all still just a work in progress , buuut ! I do have people collabing with me .
B : Spill it ! [Laughs]
L : Fine ! [Laughs] But only one ! The collaboration I have coming up is with Drew Westbrook for my next single , which is going to be the SHIT , if you didn't know . [Giggles]
B : We already knew that . Everything of yours is the bomb . [Laughs] But who is Drew Westbrook ? We've been hearing a lot about him these past few days .
L : He's an up and coming artist who hasn't really gotten much exposure , but he is already doing some big things . He sings and raps and for the song he's on with me , he sings . Haven't heard him rap yet but he absolutely killed his parts in my song . I'm super excited for this next single .
B : Can you tell us a little about the single since you're so excited ? [Laughs]
L [Laughs] What is there to say ? It's name is [Forgotten Ceremony] . It's definitely different and innovative , like what I've been doing . Not much I can say about it . Hard to put it in words , but once you hear it , you'll know .
B : Well , if you could compare it , would it be closer to [Leader Of The Pack] or one of the songs off of [On The Curb] ?
L : It's closer to [Leader Of The Pack] but more complex and it's not playing around . This single is the start of my reign and we'll have time for celebrating later , bahaha .
B : What role is it going to play in the album ? Oh well , is there even going to be an album ?
L : Of course ! I haven't had time to say much about it , but [Forgotten Ceremony] is the lead single off of it . It's actually the title track as well . I know I released the other songs earlier , but that was all about timing and those being my " introduction " singles . I'm not going to say much on the album right now , so don't ask any questions about it . [Laughs]
B : Well dang , be like that then ! [Laughs] We know you're super busy taking care of your career so we aren't going to hog up your time , so just one more question . And it's the last question so you HAVE to answer it ...
L : Oh lord ...
B : Do you at least have a date for the album ?
L : Oh my goood , fine . [Laughs] Nothing is official but I'm thinking some time around ... December or January . I can't promise this though ! So don't go around telling people to mark their calendars !!
