The Urban Music Awards will be presented annually, and will broadcast live on BET networks. The first ceremony will take place on December 1, 2013 in the Nokia Theatre, Los Angeles, California. The annual presentation ceremony will feature performances by artists, and some of the awards of more popular interest are presented in a televised ceremony. The UBA's (The Urban Music Awards) will cater to all genres of music with the exception of genre-specific categories.
Unlike your traditional award show at The Rock Star Game, these award shows will only take place once a year, to give enough time to fill in the categories. You will be given a short period of time to plug your acts and you may plug as many acts as you please as long as they meet the requirements for nomination.
The voting process will be very simple. Using Survey Monkey, I will be collecting all the votes, and you will be given a short period of time to place your votes. Anyone can partake in the voting process, but will be strictly monitored. Any form of tactical votes will be deleted and will not be counted. Anyone caught cheating or voting unfairly will be banned from voting process. You will not be allowed to vote for your own act in the voting process. This include any songs in which any of your artists are featured on as a vocalist. If you break any of these rules, you will be informed via PM with a generic message.
Don't take this award show too seriously, it is brand new and it's all for fun!
The Planning Process: Round 1: Consists of reading the rules, following the guidelines and submitting your artists for nomination via PM.- Round 1 begins as of today! You do not plug here, you must send your submission to the
"Urban Music Awards" TRSG account via PM.
- All singles and albums must be released from
January 6, 2013 to
November 10, 2013 in order to be eligible for nomination.
In order to submit for nomination one of the following must apply: 1.) Artist/Band must cater to an Urban Community. A.) Urban Community made in reference to African or Minority culture
or inspired by it! This is why genre's are not excluded in categories
that are 'non-genre specific; such as "Artist of the Year", "Best Album",
"Best Single", "Best Music Video", "Best Collaboration", "Best Male Act",
"Best Female Act", and "Best Producer". African American culture is not
defined by skin color but by culture itself.
B.) What is an Urban Community?*Artist who promote their singles/albums in Urban media outlets. Once
again, not defined by color of skin. Some examples of Urban Media Outlets
are as follows: BET's 106 & Park, Songs that would receive airplay on
Urban Radio, Rhythmic Radio, and R&B Adult Contemporary formats. If you
any questions on this, ask on this thread or via PM (preferably).
2.) Genre Specific Categories A.) These are separate genres within the Urban Music Awards. There are
only two categories this applies to: Best R&B Song and Best Rap/Hip-hop
Song. The songs submitted to those categories must be of those genres in
order to receive nomination.
ORIn order to submit for nomination one of the following must apply (in a nutshell): In order to submit for nomination your artist or band must cater to an urban community. It's that simple. Remember, deadline to submit for nomination is on November 8, 2013. Nominees will be announced on November 11th.

Lifetime Achievement AwardThe Race Issue: Race does NOT apply to anything on these awards. A Chinese monk can sweep the Urban Music Awards if he recorded the rap song of our generation. But he hasn't, so too bad so sad you rebel Chinese monk you!
Participation: If you don't think you are eligible for any of the categories, there is still hope. I need performers, a few presenters for some categories of the awards and any open minded skits or ideas are also welcomed! As long as they would benefit the Urban Music Awards community and culture! However, it is important that if you sign up for something to follow through. Reminders will be sent out to performers, presenters and to the co-host a week and the night before the awards!
HAVE FUN!
