Feet in the Sand (ft. Nadia Berry)



Feet in the Sand is the third single from Sammy Griffin's debut album, Some Words I Wrote On a Broken Heart. This song is the only collaboration set to be on Sammy's album and the first of his songs to ever be a collaboration. The addition of Nadia Berry gives a new level to the song, and the way the two artists voices intertwine on the track is certainly a beautiful thing. Sammy hopes to be able to replicate the success of both of his previous singles which both charted at number 1 on the Airplay Charts and number 2 on the Digital Downloads Charts!

Description

A tender sigh starts the song, and Sammy's soft and very clear vocals come into immediate play. A quiet piano riff gently merges with the calm plucking tune of an acoustic guitar, and beneath that a muffled drum beat lightly helps to keep the tempo of the song. Sammy's vocals get stronger towards the end of the second line, making the transition between soft and quiet to strong and clear very smoothly; the plucking guitar tune now turns into a soft chord progression.

Sammy's first chorus stops and within a few seconds the instantly recognisable vocals of one of the world's biggest pop-stars, Nadia Berry, start to sing the first verse. Her voice picks out the twisting and turning piano tune and helps to emphasise this over the acoustic guitar, helping to give a subtly yet significant change to the song. As she reached the end of the second line of her verse, a bass guitar can be heard in the back ground too, playing a slow, low tune which is helping to build the track up slowly.

As Nadia's stunning vocal display comes to and end, Sammy starts to sing his verse. An electric guitar can now be heard, playing the same tune as the acoustic was before, although the acoustic is still playing the same tune in the background. The drum beat is no longer muffled, but is still quiet. The use of the instruments quietly has allowed the song to be a more intimate vocal display between the two vocalists, helping to build a believable connection between the two.

At the end of the verse, there is a second chorus sung only by Sammy. His vocals are much louder in this one as the song starts to reach its first peak. The piano riff in the background is more prominent now, although the electric guitar is still the dominant sound behind the vocals. In the back ground you can hear very soft and quiet harmonies from Nadia, although they are very minimal at this point. The chorus finishes and there is a short instrumental break of no longer than 10 seconds before Nadia starts her second verse.

The song is now more up tempo, and more up Nadia's pop route, thus allowing her to shine more than she already was. Towards the end of the verse, Sammy sings two lines over the top of her, harmonising and helping to build the song up to the breakdown. The breakdown arrives and the two are both singing "La la la la la // Oh, la la la la la" together over a short chopping guitar noise. After two cycles of that, Nadia continues it on her own and Sammy powerfully sings slightly differing versions of "Bury My Feet" three times.

After this finishes, the song goes silent. Then suddenly it all comes back together for the final chorus as it reaches the crescendo, with both vocalists singing the final chorus in harmony with each other. They both sing a variation of the same line towards the end and when it does all end they hold the final note together, and their voices slowly fade into the softening piano riff.
