At first Jake is relieved that he has the right apartment but then he listens in on their conversation and laughs once it's turned off . He opens the door and closes it behind him , still laughing and makes his way upstairs to the apartments . He looks for Apartment number 8 and knocks on it , waiting for them to open up . He found what she said funny but starts thinking about what she said as he waits . |

Tessa opens the door when she hears Jake knock. She pauses for a moment and then looks him up and down before shouting behind her, "I hope you're not putting too much effort into that dinner, Lynn..." She winks and then walks away from the doorframe just as Vanessa starts to walk up. She holds the door open for him.
"I'm sorry. They were just leaving," she emphasizes, turning to her three roommates, who are each grabbing their coats and heading towards the door.
"Bye! Have fun! Wear a condom!" Eva shouts as they walk out the door and close it behind them.
Vanessa runs her head through her hair and laughs a little bit. "I'm sorry about them. They're... you know. Roommates. And bandmates." She pauses for an awkward moment. "Dinner is almost ready. I hope you're not vegetarian or anything pussy like that."

Jake laughed as her 3 roommates walked out . He then clears his throat and looks at Vanessa . " Well , " He says , trying to hold back all the laughs . " all this talk about getting laid . It hasn't even been 5 minutes yet . " He jokes with a smirk . " I didn't know you lived with them . " He says after he gives Vanessa a little hug . " Vegetarian ? I'm a man . I need meat on a daily basis . " Jake smells the aromas from the kitchen . " Speaking of , what are you cooking ? " |

"All this talk? I hardly mentioned it... loudly," Vanessa says back, crossing her arms and smirking at Jake, a small genuine smile on her face. Jake really was handsome and Vanessa didn't consider herself a very pretty person. Dating somebody as attractive as Jake was a really big ego boost to her. "Yeah, all four of us live in this shitty apartment, and we all pretend that we're going to be big pop stars, and it's pretty pathetic. Whatever." She shrugs and laughs a little, looking back towards the kitchen. "Oh, yeah. I'm making beef sabich," She says as she leads him into the kitchen to show what she's making. "It's an Isreali sandwich. My grandmother is from Isreal, so I learned a lot from her. It's pita bread stuffed with hard boiled eggs, tahini, potato, amba. Normally it's vegetarian, but I put in some beef to make it... good." She grins.

" He says with a chuckle . " Beef what ? " Jake shakes his head . " No no no . I can't get poisoned tonight . " Once Vanessa explains what it is and what's inside Jake changes his mind . " Oh . You should've just said that . What time will it be done ? " |

"Oh yeah?" Vanessa asks, giggling. "And why is that? What have you been thinking about lately, Mr. Jake?" She lays out the toasted pita bread on a large plate and starts making the sabiches. "It should be done in just about.... now!" She smiles at him. She wouldn't ever admit it out loud, but she was definitely trying to impress Jake. And what better way to do that than cooking the best meal she knows how to make?

Eva finishes her cigarette and stomps it out, giving out a small cough as she does. The colder it got, the less she found herself wanting to smoke, but she had already mentally begun to refer to herself as a smoker, and didn't think that she would be able to stop now that she had started. Or at least that's what she told herself. The idea of quitting - even without a real addiction - made her feel like a failure as a smoker, and therefore a failure as a grown adult who can make adult choices in life - like choosing to do something potentially physically damaging. Every time she walked up to the counter of a convenient store or grocery and said, "Marlboro Red 100's, please," and then flashed her ID to the store worker, she felt that she was proving that she was no longer under the eyes of her parents, and her own human being. And if she were to quit smoking, she would no longer have a way to prove that. Upon this self-realization of why she felt the need to smoke without a physical dependency on it, Eva lit another cigarette as a celebratory smoke. Why not? She was ten minutes early to the bookstore that she and Jimmy were supposed to meet at, it wasn't the coldest day of the month, and she was completely wrapped head-to-toe in the cashmere winter collection that her parents had bought her her senior year of high school. As of this moment, catching a cold was the least of her worries, and that's more than enough reason to have a second cigarette.

He hated stick-shift cars because he was lazy but the mannerism of driving one had been beaten into his skull long before he had the right to argue with the notion. The black car he drove down the street was a dime-a-dozen, really. The bookstore Jimmy was supposed to meet Eva at wasn't far from his apartment, but it was too cold to walk that distance and his hate for buses could form a shitty album. After enduring a half a minute of the newest Cassie Valentine song, he turned his radio off and consistently reminded himself of how much being sober sucked. But luckily, he had arrived at his destination, and after a few moments of parking, he was out of the car and into the cold. |

Eva sees Jimmy get out of his car and gives him one of those half-waves you give when it's cold outside and you want to keep all of your extremities close to the core of your body at all times. "Hey, what's up?" She asks as she lets this cigarette fall to the ground as her last one did and she stomps it out as well. "Cold as balls, huh?"

"Howdy" Jimmy responds, his hands in coat's pocket. "I don't think my balls are too cold." He jokes for a moment, before sneezes, "But yeah it's fucking freezing." |

Eva laughs softly and then nods her head towards the bookstore. "Let's go inside. My nose is about to freeze off my face," she says before turning towards the door and heading inside. The warmth of the bookstore hits her immediately, making her give out a sigh of satisfaction as she begins to feel her face again. She turns around to Jimmy and smiles, feeling much more human than she did before in the cold. "What have you been up to lately?"

Jimmy enters the bookstore alongside Eva, its getting hard to count (or remember) how often he's been travelling to bookstores around the city with her. Jimmy laughs under his breath as Eva sighs when they enter, "I've been sleeping a lot more lately. I'm coming to this point in my life where I'm meeting people and I think learning more about...stuff that I don't understand?" He speaks, his voice conveying his own confusion at the past few months. "What about you, any adventures?" |

Eva picks up a book off of the shelf as Jimmy speaks, skimming the words and she listens to him. She raises her eyes over the cover and watches him as he speaks with confusion in his voice. With as much time as Eva and Jimmy had spent with each other, it was obvious to probably both of them that they really didn't know as much about each other as one would think they should after this long. His confusion equaled hers. "What do you mean?" She asks, looking back to the pages of the book and skimming the words again as she speaks. "You sound like you're describing my whole college experience. So many new people, so many new topics of conversation, and I didn't understand a single word of it. That's why I quit." She grins a little and then puts down the book, giving him a shrug. "Adventures? Not so much. I don't come by adventures as much as I used to anymore. Right now, an adventure to me is finding the money to buy new clothes and not feel guilty about it." She giggles again. She oddly liked having to search for the money to spend on unnecessary things, like new clothes when she already had a closet full of perfectly good ones. It was so unlike her upbringing, which made it all the more enjoyable.

For a few moments he thought he had lost, but she met his eyes again. "I don't know, it's confusing and I'm not even sure if I understand it, but I think that I...like it?" She mentioned college, he had been to hundreds of colleges, doing drugs, doing songs, but never actually taken the place in. "Finding money to buy new clothes? I think you and me have entirely different adventures." |

Eva laughs when Jimmy tries to explain himself, even though the explanation was still just as confusing as the original concept. She still smiles, however. It was attractive, the way that he spoke. He sounded lost and confused, but still sure enough of himself to say it out loud. It wasn't something Eva could put her finger on exactly, but she wouldn't mind hearing him speak for hours. "You should take me on one of your adventures sometime then," she says back, putting down the book and meeting his eyes again. "We've been on enough of my shopping adventures together. It's your turn."

Upon hearing Eva's words, Jimmy realized that the two were meeting eyes in a way that they hadn't quite done before. Eva's words didn't reach his mind until he looked away, down to a cookbook for Thanksgivvukah-friendly recipes. "I don't think my shopping adventures would be much more fun. I only know assholes and weirdos...besides you?" He says, as he flips through the recipes. |

Eva grins. "Aw, I'm not among your asshole and weirdo friends? How disappointing," she says back, eyeing the book that Jimmy's reading. "Are you Jewish?" She raises her eyebrows.

"Nah, I know assholes and weirdos when I see them." Jimmy takes a look down at the book he's reading, "And no, I don't think I'm Jewish." |

"Yeah? Then what kind of friend am I? What sub-genre of friendship do I fall into?" Eva asks, laughing. She smiles and shakes her head. "You don't think you're Jewish? It's not a hard question, Jimmy. Do you know what taharat ha-mishpachah is? Because if you do, you're Jewish. Automatically Jewish."

"I think you're a horror friend. Like the Jason Voorhees of my friends list." He jokes, "And I THINK I KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS. THESE ARE HARD PRESSING QUESTIONS EVA, I THINK I NEED A LIFELINE OR SOMETHING!" He quietly shouts, looking around to see if he's disturbing any other customers. |
