Rosenberg: Welcome, welcome, welcome everybody welcome SONYAE. Yes, she's in the building ready for this interview. How are you doing?

Sonyae: I'm good. I'm really good y'all. Thanks for the warm welcome!

Rosenberg: This is the first time you've been here with us. We've been trying to get a hold of you for an interview or something for quite some time now. You must have been real busy. [Coughs] I mean you are a very busy person so of coarse it would have been hard to get a hold of you.

Sonyae: Yes, darling. I'm really glad to be hear. I really have been busy though. Like, even though my album is completed and all and it's going to be released worldwide on the 22nd of this month - I still got lots of things to do. I've got to do more interviews, promo, I'm venturing into fashion.. just a lot of shit. A lot.

Rosenberg: I know. I can't imagine doing the things you do and having the kind of schedule that you have. So your album is coming out on the 22nd. Everyone, make sure to get the album on the 22nd! Now, you recently released the second single off of the album. It's a real damn good song. We played the song over at this station like 50 times a day.

Sonyae: Aww, do you guys really? That's sweet. I'm glad that you like it and I'm glad it's getting good airplay and it's doing well. I'm actually surprised that the song is doing well. Just this morning I got word that the song is at number two and four on the Airplay and Digital charts. Rosenberg, when I tell you I was shocked to hear that - I really mean it.

Rosenberg: Congrats Yae. That's like your what? Third top five hit? Not to mention the other top tens and fives you scored as a featured artist?

Sonyae: Thanks babe. Yeah, that sounds just about right. Laughs] You know, to tell you the truth, I could honestly care less about how well any of my stuff can do. I'm really happy that my work is doing well on the charts and all but I care more about releasing good music and making a connection to all my Barbz.

Rosenberg: Yes! And that's what the industry is lacking right about now; creating and releasing good music without caring about how well it does on the charts. Talking about charts - how do you think you're upcoming album will do?



Sonyae: I think the album will do well. The album already has around fifty-thousand pre-orders worldwide so I'm really excited about that. I believe that this album will do well and I hope it does because it'll be big for hip-hop culture you know?

Rosenberg: Yeah, I hear you.

Sonyae: This will be huge for hip-hop culture. I can actually count how many times an established artist released a hip-hop album. Yeah, urban has been picking up recently due to all the singles being released by artists but it's like... there's absolutely not that many hip-hop albums that have been released lately... So with this album; I hope it does well just for the sake of our culture.

Rosenberg: Definitely, Yae. I agree with you. How do you feel about such few urban albums being released lately? Do you feel like you can revive hip-hop for both females and males?

Sonyae: To me it just sucks balls really. [Laughs] I do feel like I can help revive hip-hop culture along with many other great upcoming rappers that are doing their thing. I'm just one of the rare hip-hop artists that are actually releasing a body of work to represent our culture.

Rosenberg: So how will this album sound? In other words, what's the album about and what's the influence behind it?

Sonyae: This album is like my own personal diary. The album just speaks for itself you know. When you hear it and when everyone else hears it - then will everyone understand what I'm talking about. But it's just like my own diary. I honestly can't wait for the world to hear this record. I've been working in the studio on this album for about a year now with many different producers including George King. I think he's an amazing talented producer. We both worked together and put together a great sound for each track of the album. Also, I've got a few features on the album too. One of them is actually Isaac Lovelock who I think is a lyrical genius. He's a fantastic artist and it was great getting to work with him. I also worked with Drew on the album as well.

Rosenberg: I definitely can't wait for the album then. Isaac is a great artist and so is Drew. You and Drew actually both finished touring recently. How did that go?

Sonyae: The tour was great! The tour hit some cities here in the US and we played twos shows out in London AND we flew out to my homeland Trinidad and Tobago and played there as well. Where all my Trinis at!? [Laughs]. While I was on the tour, I was also getting footage shot for my upcoming documentary with MTV too. Everything was just perfect.



Rosenberg: So the tour was kind of short since it was only a promo tour. Do you have any plans on going on tour next year possibly?

Sonyae: Ummm.... I don't know. I was thinking about it but nothing official but we'll definitely see how all of that goes though. I've been really busy these past couple of months and with the kind of shit I'll be doing next year - it'll only get more hectic. But we'll see. I will tour eventually.

Rosenberg: What kind of shit will you be doing next year Yae? Let us know now! [Winks]

Sonyae: [Cackles] Pahahaha. You caught me Rosenberg. Well I'mma just let it be known that I've got lots of shit planned out for 2014. I'll be expanding my business ventures and all of that good stuff. Just wait. Patience is virtue.
