OOC: This is supposed to be shit and jokey. Trying something new in RP. Who the fuck are you?ARSE.over.ELBOW (sometimes stylised ARSEOVERELBOW) is a crap punk band from Montreal, Canada, formed in the late winter of 2012. The band was the result of a disputed snowball fight, in which no one could decide on a definitive winner. The resultant scrap ended with the band becoming a close knit unit who decided to link up and join together their love for all things comedy. Having tried and failed to get a sketch show on TV networks across Canada, and after various failures on the stage as a mime troupe, the original four members, all of whom had previously attempted to learn to play musical instruments decided to hire an enigmatic and dramatic man to lead their charge into the battlefield that is known simply as "tunes and that." Frontman Dallas Falcone would be flown in from Chicago, Illinois, to join up with the founding fathers of ARSE.over.ELBOW in January 2013 to complete the band's most recent and current line up.
Markus Darkus (guitar), Damien "D" Tritus (bass), Lexi Conn (guitar) and Kevin Skaff (Drums) have been friends since they met in the peewee hockey league at the age of 7 and a quarter. Ever since, they have sought infamy through their controversial take on comedy. From their early days broadcasting pirate radio from the comfort of a chemistry class at the local high school to the times they took to the stage dressed head to toe in spandex, berets and garlic, their wont has always been to entertain and offend with their comedy - be it sketches, sitcoms, radio skits or clown mime acts. Their road to infamy was partially derailed in the summer of 2006 when, all aged 19, the band decided to emulate Johnny Knoxville and co with an internet based stunt show called MooseBlood. Fellow founding member George Krill would end up passing away after a stunt went disastrously wrong. Krill was set on fire and kicked in the head by a horse when he was supposed to be fire breathing in an attempt to melt an igloo. The collective would go quiet from that moment until they launched the pilot of their sketch show "Maple Valley Leaf Club" in winter 2010. The show was never picked up, but received something of a cult following among high school kids in Canada.
Following the failure of their TV show, the group, still using the moniker "Maple Valley Leaf Club" decided to set up a clown show based on the mime artform. Dressed in black spandex with white painted faces and garlic necklaces, the quartet took their surreal and offensive pseudo-circus act around Canada, playing to decent crowds and drawing what was their best level of success to date. Their glory culminated in an extended run at the Edinburgh International Comedy Festival in August 2012, where the four Canadians would play to crowds on the Royal Mile, acting out their clown-mime show for the better part of a whole month. It was there that they adopted the name "ARSE.over.ELBOW", when an elderly Scottish man hysterically screamed "He's went arse over elbow" when one of the four fell during their act. On their return to Canada, the group would bring their clown act to a close, deciding that it was time to move on to new things. They decided that their mutual love of all things funny and offensive, mixed with their passion for alternative culture, fashion, and crucially music, should see them create some sort of comedy band. After a few months of trying the band would opt to bring in a singer, welcoming applications from around the world.
Dallas Falcone is the only one of the band not born and bred in Canada. The frontman and lead singer was born in Chicago, Illinois, and has fronted a number of bands in his career to date. The singer's career has taken a weird trajectory ever since he left high school at the age of 17. Originally tipped as one of the smartest and brightest in his school, Dallas would abandon hopes of going to college in favour of making his mark as a professional skateboarder. In 2006, at the age of 18, his dream was realised when he skated at the X Games, taking 12th place in the half pipe freestyle event. After various other attempts at making a name for himself on the skating scene - he said his biggest dream was to have a skateboarding video game named after him a la Tony Hawk - Dallas' sporting career was cut short in 2011 when, after four years as a pro, he gave himself a serious leg break. Although it was mended surgically and he was later cleared to skate, the young enigma admitted that he had lost his nerve and could not skate any more.
It was during his recovery from his leg break that a bored Falcone would stumble across an old set of videos from MooseBlood. Being a part of the skating scene, and the whole Jackass age that it had sprouted, he became a fan of the show and its funny, charming and charismatic Canadian hosts/victims. When MooseBlood (now ARSE.over.ELBOW) advertised online for a singer in the winter of 2012, Falcone was the frontman of a Chicago-based hardcore punk band, Alien Autopsy. However, reading the proposal for the new band's mission in life, and sharing a mutual love for comedy, he decided to send in an application. He was appointed to the band following a "harrowing" interview, which involved him singing a medley of Rebecca Black songs on karaoke in a packed bar and carrying out an impromptu stand up set on the same night. Dallas flew to Montreal in January 2013 to team up with his new bandmates. For the majority of the year, the band focussed on live appearances, playing comedy jams and riffing together some songs about pop culture and other funny issues on the fly. However, late in October, they decided to take themselves more seriously, and made the move that would see them become what they are today.
November 2013 marked the rebirth of ARSE.over.ELBOW. The entire band relocated from Montreal to Dallas Falcone's hometown of Chicago, where they entered a practice space to develop themselves a new, heavier tone that would go well with the sort of things they were singing about. Throughout the month, they decided to adopt a punk rock style sound which moulded them into the band they are today, ready to take on the world. What the hell are you?ARSE.over.ELBOW is a crap punk band. It means we realise that we are crappy and make no effort to be anything other than this. We sing songs about pop-culture, horror, murder, general life, drunkenness and anything else that we think will be funny and entertaining. Our modus operandi is no longer comedy, but we sing things that will bring a smile to your face. We don't take ourselves seriously, and we hope no one else does either. We plan to release music and tour to fulfill our collective dream of being musicians. But what does crap punk sound like?
Crap punk is a genre that brings in the essence of rock and punk rock. We have the simplicity and the joyous carefree attitude and stylings of punk rock, with the slightly more technical side of rock and roll mixed in. We then mashed that all together, rolled it out on the counter, stuck it in a pan and stuck it in the oven at gas mark 6 for a few hours. The result was a bunch of ugly bastards - but a bunch of ugly bastards with good hearts and an intention to entertain.
We hope to tour the world and show what we can do over the next few years, and we pledge to release music that is fresh and new, and a step away from anything you have heard in the past. Do you feel that the music industry as a whole takes itself far too seriously? Then never fear - we are here to be that comedy relief that will bring a smile to your little face. And hey, if you don't like us, feel free to tell us to fuck off. We're Canadian, so we're used to being at the ass end of most of the world's jokes anyway. Most importantly, though, smile at us, give us one of those big shit-eating grins and just enjoy what we do. Life doesn't always have to be serious.Music? Have you got any?Coming soon
Debut EP - Dark Side of the Groom Debut single - Je Suis Une Loser! Can we come see you?Calm yourself a little. ARSE.over.ELBOW are currently working on getting together some music for their debut EP. They will then tour the world bringing cheese and biscuits with them for all. We promise. Except for the cheese and biscuits. But they may bring beer and pizza.
