TRACK 6 : THE HIGHWAY TO REDEMPTION Artist: Tisha Jackson Song: The Highway To Redemption Album: The Highway To Redemption Written by: Tisha Jackson Produced by: Tisha Jackson Genre: R&B, Soul Recorded: January 2013 Length: 3:30
Background & Vocal Arrangements of ‘The Highway To Redemption’
‘The Highway To Redemption’ is an R&B ballad. It is a very soulful number. The main theme of the song is friendship, and how a friends love can get you through the good and bad times of life. It is a sweet number without being syrupy. Jackson comes across as very sincere, singing, “On this road we have our wins, and sometimes we may fail.” Jackson also sings very heavily, evoking a powerful soulful tone with ‘Highway’.
The song begins with an acapella of just Jackson’s vocals, stripped. Her tone is very rich as she sings the opening line, “Hearts made of gold”. The beat then kicks in. The beat consist of a rhythmic guitar, as the chords strum slowly and the light play of organs, giving it a soulful gospel sound. Jackson sings the song according to the beat in a relax mellow groove. She finishes the first verse and heads to the chorus.
Unlike many songs, ‘The Highway To Redemption’ is not filled with much lyrics instead, Jackson’s chorus is filled with harmonies, and ad-lips. For much of the chorus she mainly harmonizes and ad-libs, “Woooo, woooo, deee woooo, wooo, deeee, woooo”. It becomes infectiously relaxing. Jackson continues to the second verse of the song. As she picks up her vocals a bit, but she still maintains the mellow pace of the guitar and organs. Violins kick into the beat giving it a peaceful feel. As Jackson exits the verse her voice gets deeper as she harmonizes. She continues to the chorus as her vocals pick up a tad more still flowing with the beat. Jackson begins to ad-lib even more and hit several high notes.
Jackson heads to the bridge as the violins, organs, and guitar simmer to her vocals. She gains a power in her voice as she sings, “Broken hearts seem to break uneven, when there is hurt unattended.” The beat then grows bigger as well as Jackson’s vocal. The arraignment is powerful. Towards the chorus Jackson then lowers her voice as the beat simmers her voice with it. She begins to ad-lib, hitting several high notes. She continues to ad lib and harmonizes singing, “Wooooooo, deee, woooo”, until the guitar closes out the song with its chords.
Background of ‘The Highway To Redemption’ [How It Came About]
The Highway To Redemption was recorded in February of 2013 in New York City. Jackson was writing the track for almost a year now because it was so special to her heart. She wanted to write a positive song that everyone could relate to, and that was about friendship. Jackson knew that everyone would understand the message of the song and that was to cherish the people you love and to always have their backs as long as they have yours. Jackson also choose the arraignment of a soulful R&B ballad to highlight her vocals.
Quote:The Highway To Redemption is probably my most sincere personal songs to date. I appreaciate everyone God has blessed me with in my life. I feel like I’ve gotten to a place where I know my foundation, and I am happy with the friendships I’ve made. But I really cherish the people who knew me before I became “Tisha Jackson” and how they’ve had my back. I’ve come across a lot of fake people who wanted a piece of me in the industry, and I am just glad to have people in my corner who have my back. My friends from High School who are ride or dies and rock with me to the end. And that’s why this song is so personal for me, it is a thank you to God and to the people he’s blessed me with in my life whether it be family or friends.
