NEW DENEIL TRACK LEAKS ONLINEUPCOMING STAR TELLS FELLOW RAPPERS TO GET OVER THEMSELVES IN LIGHTHEARTED 'CUP'It appears that 2014 may very well be the year of the rapper. With the sudden surge of new and already successful rappers such as; Sonyae, Kidd Amaze, Miami, Liyah, Lotus and many others breaking onto the scene as well as already established acts such as Matt Young, Chloe and Isaac Lovelock gearing up to release new material this year it's safe to say that things will get ugly in the battle of the charts and award shows this year. We have already witnessed numerous Twitter spats between some of the fierce females of rap and there has been diss track aplenty in the first two and a half weeks of 2014 already. So where does eighteen year old, London born Deneil Khan fit into the equation? Well, he doesn't. Deneil himself has stated that he prefers to sit on the sidelines and watch others tear into each other while he focuses on his own career. The rising star is already making a name for himself despite having no label, not doing any interviews or making public appearances. The eighteen year old has openly admitted that he is just too lazy to do promo and doesn't like all the hassle that comes with it. He would rather sit at home, make music, release it online and watch the money roll in. Deneil has worked with the likes of Victoria Black, Michelle Green, Ugenia, Cassie Valentine, Luke Striker and Weekend to name a few and already has a top 3 hit single, 'Living For The Weekend' to his name. Those credentials are not too shabby for a self-confessed lazy teen that prefers to lounge around at home rather than mingling with the biggest stars of today. His hit debut single is still hanging around in the top twenty well after two months of its release. The strong critical praise he received for his 'off' rapping style, songwriting and production skills made many people eager to hear what else he could do. Finally, a new song which is titled 'Cup' has been leaked online. The track is similar to his debut single in the sense that it is has a laid-back vibe and Deneil's cockney accent adds even more edge to it. However, his rapping is much slower and he sings in the chorus rather than using the half singing/half talking style that was prominent throughout the chorus of 'Living For The Weekend'. He sings in a gentle, almost whispering voice which sounds similar to the voice of his elder brother, Billy Khan, although less powerful. Deneil is more of a rapper than a singer but shows that he still has the ability to do both. The rap song has been dubbed as a "non-diss track" in which Deneil tells fellow rappers to basically grow up and get over themselves and also goes on to say that he is doing fine just focusing on himself and not taking part in all of these "beefs" that are currently going on. Luckily, we managed to get a few words from the reclusive Deneil via email. He tells us about the song, his upcoming EP and what he thinks about current rappers. Deneil wrote:"I've only just heard that 'Cup' had leaked online and I have no idea how as I'm the only one with access to the song. Either I done something when I was drunk or Mandy decided to sneak onto my computer and leak it online. I'll needto change a few passwords!
Anyway, thanks for getting into contact with me and showing interest in the song. I feel like I should clear a few things up about 'Cup'. First of all, I am purposely contradicting myself. I talk about how fellow rappers in the industry are always having a go at one another and how silly it is yet here I am, aiming a track at fellow rappers. The song is very lighthearted though, a bit silly and I just want people to listen to the track and realise that all of this negative is just doing more and more damage to reputations. I haven't named anyone in particular, it's not a direct 'diss', it's a message to everyone. I could've aimed a song at a few people but for what? A new enemy and a few pats on the back from some supporters? I'd rather do something a little bit different. It's silly, it's tongue-in-cheek and it's basically saying 'let's just chill out and get stoned'!
I feel as if there is a lot of negativity in the rap industry and there always has been. I'm not saying it should all be sunshine and roses, it is rap after all but recently it's become too overwhelming and a lot of people are just getting fed up with it and do not want to associate with rappers and the genre itself because they think everyone is 'bad news'. It is extremely difficult to make it as a rapper. We should all be proud of ourselves for flying the flag for the genre we all love. We are all in the same boat and should be sailing towards the same destination. We shouldn't be throwing each other overboard. Yes, I understand that people want to be the best and make it big but a lot of artists nowadays think that 'winning' is about how many followers, likes and retweets you get. They end up looking like total attention seekers and people will ultimately avoid them in the end. That's not winning.
I want to finish up by saying that 'Cup' will not be a single (well, I'll see how the response is first ;P) but it will be included in my debut EP 'Deconstructed'. It will be out really soon and I know it's been delayed over and over again but I'm such a perfectionist. Although there are only five songs on it, I'm constantly tweaking them and I'll be sure to keep you posted.....if I can be bothered that is! 'Cup' was written and produced by Deneil himself. Check out the song below and please leave your thoughts in the comments section.
Artist: Deneil Title: Cup Genre: Rap/Experimental Length: 2:57 Written By: Deneil Khan Produced By: Deneil Khan From The EP: Deconstructed I'm smoking on my Cali green, in a little house in London, living the Hollywood dream Laying on my leather couch, exhaling the negative shit, fears and doubts I don't need you to fucks with me, don't a little clique, quite happy being free What's with all the aggro? Some people just need to let go I don't want to get involved with all this pettiness Gotta clear my mind and think about what I'm gonna next Some of you really need to cool off, that's why people are throwing shade I'm more than happy to watch from the sidelines, I don't want to play this game I fill up my cup. I fill up my cup. That's what you do to quench your thirst, I don't have to go around starting war, always wanting more and more I fill up my cup. I fill up my cup. But I know when I have had enough, Don't get drunk on power and look like a fool, I just sit back and play it cool So grab a cup. So grab a cup.
