damn, even my first band here on trsg were named after nirvana's last studio album. them years sure do fall by like the rain.

the cobain solo records would've been great.

also, where did nirvana/cobain ever state that they "started the revolution of alternative rock"? from what i've gathered, they attempted to distance themselves from that particular niche. men jag kan ha fel... tänk om jag har feeee-eeee-eeeel...

i agree on all of this. incesticide is an amazing record, the only one by them i own physically.

i don't think they're overrated. they were a great band that were important in the 90's alt rock. they never said they wanted to be icons. btw, i don't really think cobain shot himself, but i don't want to start an argue on that.

Why not? I personally think he did, but it would be interesting if he didnt.

because of all the evidence that says he didn't, and he was killed by someone paid by courtney love. there's a lot of people saying things like that. plus, kurt said some weeks before dying that he was very happy with his life and daughter, so why would he kill himself? but i don't really now, and don't care much to be honest.

Lots of people are capable of believing in conspiracy though. From 11/09/01 being staged by the US government to old classics like Roswell, people have a high capacity for believing baseless nonsense. Why would the police cover up the murder of Cobain? If there was any evidence, Love would have gone down.

Any experience with people who are depressive? Maybe not and i dont blame you. But as simple as it is, people lie to hide something, even for the press. Do you still believe Jim Morrison is still alive?

People who kill themselves in almost all cases claim to be happy shortly before doing it. Probably because they know they're going to be killing themselves.

When people are in a manic period, they are very dangerous for themselves. They can do anything. I think many artists are manic-depressive.

The reason why some people love and idolise them and why some people hate them has nothing to do with how Kurt Cobain died - which don't even get me into that because if anyone actually looked at the evidence... well the inquest into his death was a load of bungled shit.

Anyway, the reason why people love them and some hate them is because some people "get" Nirvana and they "get" Kurt Cobain, and others don't.

Personally, Nirvana speak to me in a way no other band has managed to do. The lyrics are deeper and more powerful than any other I've ever heard before - EVER, and I would challenge someone to find me a lyric that does. Kurt Cobain's voice is one that stays with me hours after I've finished listening to them, he has a way of touching his audience like nobody else. His voice really is haunting. Kurt wasn't conceited, his songs weren't "try hard", he simply wrote about and sang what was in his head and his heart. Kurt's death was a tragedy and I find it pretty fucking disgusting that people can attribute his, and his band's, hard work and talent on his untimely death. Seriously, what is wrong with people?

Oh, and may I add, at least 90% of the people who can't stand Nirvana have probably only heard Smells Like Teen Spirit and maybe one or two other songs - and those were probably from the Nevermind album.
People can say they're not their cup of tea, but there is no way they can slate Kurt's ability as a songwriter, especially if they understood Kurt, how he thought and what he thought of himself and life in general, another reason why I say people that don't like Nirvana are simply people that don't "get" Nirvana.

I highly recommend any fans who haven't yet read it, to read Cobain's diary - it will completely change the way you look at his songs, you'll understand them so much more deeply.

Oh, and again people say Kurt's overrated because of his guitar playing? He knew he wasn't the best guitar player in the world, far from it, and his fans knew it. Kurt is not, and never has been, known because of his ability on the guitar. It's because of his amazing ability as a songwriter and as a singer who can touch those who listen to him and can make you feel every single emotion he was feeling as he wrote the tracks. That's why people love him. He could create a relationship with those who were open to his music.

I don't get Kurt Cobain. I just think he wrote catchy pop-rock songs that shite on bandmate Dave Grohl's pop-rock songs in the Foo Fighters.

Well how the fuck is it not pop-rock? I mean it's rock music full of hooky riffs, and only a fool would deny Cobain's obvious pop sensibilities. There's nothing wrong with that. Pop-rock isn't me being derogatory. I'd rather listen to well written pop-rock than another boring identikit death metal song featuring horrible pig squeals.
