No one saw Cassie Valentine as she rumbled her way back up onto the charts after it seemed as if her career was at a point of no return. After returning to spotlight last year determined to release her long awaited sophomore album that suffered frequent push backs and changes, the R&B sensation finally named the album "Love&War" hemmed by it's new leading single "Single (Go)" which topped both the airplay and digital charts proving that the loving fan base that Cassie garnered during her debut era was still going strong and continuing to grow rapidly. Love&War was released in December of 2013 and was a massive success, topping the album charts for an impressive two weeks and becoming a highly acclaimed album that mixed the beauty and happiness of love with the heartache and suffrage of war. The album complimented Cassie not only as a grown vocalist but a songwriter and finally saw Cassie successfully survive what they called the "sophonore jynx". Following the album, Cassie released "I'm Scared" which placed Cassie in a darker place as she raised awareness for domestic violence with the single. The proceeds were donated to National Coalition Against Domestic Violence. Although a single to just helm Cassie's new venture, the single also saw success peaking at #6 on the airplay charts and at #3 on the Digital Charts. It is now April of 2014 and we are ready to get the newest release from Cassie Valentine!
"Hearts" is the newest single release from Cassie Valentine taken from her sophomore album "Love & War" with distribution from Cassie Valentine's current record label, FREEDOM. Hearts was recorded in 2013 and was written by Cassie Valentine with the help of successful producer and songwriter Deneil Khan, who Cassie also worked on with the album. The record will be available on Airplay, Streaming and Digital outlets on April 20th, 2014. Hearts essentially strays away from what we heard on "I'm Scared" and offers a catchier and sweeter vibe to the listeners ears as Cassie sings majestically over the relate able and questionable record. The record with production from Claude Kelly showcases his smoother side on the production wise with lights a delicate backing beat to create a lush, leisurely synth backdrop for Valentine's vocals. Throughout the song with her sultry, melodic and soulful voice Cassie goes through the motions of the clashing between her heart and her mind and the mistakes she's made following her heart instead of her head and vice versa, which is something that people go through all the time. Cassie coos "We love, we want, we want to love, love makes us want to cry|We'll find someone special to stay with us until we die|If your heart tells you to do so, would you take the chance?" she purrs over slow snaps and gentle surf guitars strumming, the song floats along on a summery, feel-good vibe that is perfect for the April month where the weather breaks into a summer feel. The real magic in the song is it's simplicity, no big loud growls or beats but a catchy understandable words and melodies making it a enjoyable listen every time when heard. Later on Cassie show's off her vocal strength in a yelping bridge that sets the song up for its finally chorus.
Cassie's Comment"'Hearts' is one of my favourites on the entire album. I just love the relaxing, smooth and silky feel to the track and to me it sounds so dreamy, every time I hear it I just get lost up in it. I wrote the song myself whilst on the plane to the recording studio in London. I was flying over there to record a few songs that I had penned and out of boredom, I just picked up the pen and my notepad and wrote away. Everyone on the flight except me was asleep (apart from the pilot, thankfully) and I had nothing to do and it took me quite a while to actually write a full song. I think the original concept of the song was 'a girl in love with a boy who likes to play mind games' and I thought it was a bit similar to other tracks on the album so I started to question the concept of 'love' and see what I came up with and what could potentially become a song. I was just writing down buzz words like 'heart', 'marriage', 'conflict', 'passion' and other words that came to mind when I thought of relationships and love. I then expanded on each word and for 'heart' I realised I was writing things like 'confusing', 'misleading, 'your true feelings?', 'do you follow your mind or your heart?' and I just loved all the ideas that spun off from it and by the time people woke up on the flight I was 3/4 of the way through writing the song that became 'Hearts'.ChorusHigh NotePlease forgive me for listening to my heart, I'm only human
I make silly mistakes over again, we all do it
I should have thought it through, I guess I blew it
Never thought 'I love you' could cause so much damage
All your fears came pouring, it was too much to manage
But don't blame me for how I feel, I'm only human
We laugh, we love, we love to laugh, we laugh until we cry
We'll find someone special to hold close, by our sides
We love, we want, we want to love, love makes us want to cry
We'll find someone special to stay with us until we die
If your heart tells you to do so, would you take the chance?
Our hearts don't know when to stop the love
Our hearts always get the best of us
Our hearts fuel the fire, keeps it burning
Love can burn us out
Our hearts can't tell wrong from right
Our hearts don't when to stop the fight
Our hearts keep the old flame still burning
Love can light us upI'm sorry for what I said, I messed up I'm only human
I couldn't see ahead, no idea what I was thinking
I should've listened to my mind instead of the silly wishing
Maybe it's not too late, maybe I can make it right
If only I could turn back time, before you went out of sight
But will my heart take over again? After all I'm only human
Love can light us upIt gets crazier each day as time slowly ticks away,
My heart gets wilder, drives me insane
I can't seem to compromise between my heart and my mind
Oh I'm going
cra-azyyyyyy Our hearts don't know when to stop the love
Our hearts always get the best of us
Our hearts fuel the fire, keeps it burning
Love can burn us out
Our hearts can't tell wrong from right
Our hearts don't when to stop the fight
Our hearts keep the old flame still burning
Love can light us upSounds Like
