Sounds Like: Devyn Rose - I Want It All'Glow' is the new single by Amy-Jayne and is her first release of new material since her previous single 'Get It From You' in January 'Glow' is the rumored to be the first single to be lifted from Amy's yet to be titled second studio album, 'Glow was written by Amy-Jayne herself and the overall all production of the song was handled by Amy's fiancée Will.Rocca whom with the help of The Titans member Den Walnut mixed, mastered and produced the whole song in Will's and Amy's home studio in Los Angeles, California, the song has a total length of four minutes and one second, 'Glow' will be released on May 14th via Titanic Records,
'Glow' is a mid-tempo Cunk&B song that incorporates Hip Hop in it's production and also has an Indie vibe something that isn't common in Amy's past works but is heavily featured on her new album, the song has a very strong almost orchestral feel throughout the song which is also something that has never appeared in Amy's music before.
The song starts with a piano intro before a drum beat comes in as Amy begins to sing the first verse of the song, she sings with a very sutle and light tone to her voice which is a tone we haven't heard in a while from Amy, after she finishes the first verse the beat changes to a more sutle and light sound as Amy then begins to sing the second verse of the song, she sings this verse with more fire and pasion in her vocals something were used to seeing from Amy, as she continues to sing this verse the beat behind her changes again to a slightly heavier more aggressive Cunk beat, Amy then begins the first bridge of the song by showing of her rapping ability by rapping in a swith and fast manner, after Amy stops rapping the beat again slows down and returns to the piano beat as My begins to sing the first chorus of the song, she sings the chorus with the light and soft tone that she used in the first verse of the song, as she is singing the first chorus the beat occasionally picks up and dies down while she is singing, after Amy finishes the chorus the beat again picks up slightly becoming aggressive as she begins to sing the third verse of the song Amy sings this verse with a lot more aggression than she did in the first two verses, in this verse Amy also adds a few extra special vocal tricks to add to the sound of the music, after Amy finishes the third verse she heads straight into the bridge again rapping with the same swift and fast pace as she did in the first bridge but this time her rapping had far more aggression and oower behind it as she was rapping the bridge the beat behind her changes to a more quick and fast drum beat as she continues to rap, after Amy finishes her rap, the beat again dies down as she begins to sing the second chorus of the song, Amy sing s this chorus with a lot of softness rather than the aggressive tones of the previous verse amd bridge this bringing the song back to a calmer pace, in this chorus Amy again adds in show adlibes and vocal trills to show of her vocal ability, after she finishes singing the second chorus everything goes silent for a few sconds before the aggressive beat drops back in again and Amy starts to rap the bridge again, rapping with a lot of aggression to her tone, after she ends the unexpected bridge the beat once agaon dies down but soon picks up again as Amy begins to sing the chorus one final time again singing it with a lot of aggression in her vocals, after Amy stops singing the beat plays out for twenty seconds before 'glow,glow,glow' can be heard after this the song ends.
The music video for the song was shoot back in March not long after the song was completed, the video is set in an abandoned car park and sees Amy arrive in a car, and then is seen dancing and singing the the car park in a green glittery dress, there are also sceens that show Amy in what appears to be a caravan trailor, the video has a total full length of over six minutes but for tv the video is cut down to four minutes and twenty seconds, both the shorted and originally video will both be uploaded to Amy's official VEVO a week after the song is released, both videos will also be put up onto the Titanic Records official website.
The song received mixed reviews from music critics, Fazed.com called the song "both clever and ironic considering how sexualised her image has become" and "singularly disarming combination of an empowering message backed by an intoxicating sexy beat" The Situation declared the track as "a great urban song with a twist and a killer beat", Also it noted Amy shows "a lot of attitude with the empowering lyrics", Slant published "it's not the chours that gets stuck im your head it's the insane rap sections that stick", Musiccomh.com reviewed 'Glow' as "an instantly unique and recognisable tune" and called it "uniqueness done right", hiphopglaxy.com called the track "an ultimate urban pary anthem for the summer" the also stated that "it's one of the best songs of the year so far" the song has an "infectious chorus" and "a crunked up groove", Blender published that Amy-Jayne raps rather impressively, delivering her lines in a sulty quick paced fashion without changing pitch",Contact Music gave the song three out of five stars and called it "arse shaking floor filling R&B jam" and a "wicked melodic twist", Jason Birchmeier of Allmusic published that the track "good, but not great", Gernado E. Wrote "it's an innovative and creative feel good song, that hasn't been over produced by hit all the right spots", Kate Watkins of The situation called it "a funky song in a stlye that we would expect from the likes of Rum&Coke", Fazed Magazine stated that the song is about "female empowerment perfect for the girls to sing to the disloyal boys", Slant thought that 'Glow' "was a cunk track with a twist", Clover hope of Billboard wrote a positive review regarding 'Glow' and noted that it is "unlike any other Amy-Jayne released thus far in her career" calling it "sultry and deliberate, the kind of song that grows on you" Hooe remarked "while the carefully measured tempo sounds incompatible with her fast raps, it also has a strangely appealing changes in the melody, despite some harsh lyrics towards men 'Glow' finds Amy on a refreshing new plateau", "no typical mainstream track here" remarks The Washington's Chris Richards who also commented that Amy "get it just right" with 'Glow' saying that it "thread(s) a more distinctive melody throughout the song that is certainly memorable" and named it "a great album opener", Andy Kellman of Allmusic called it "tremendous, one of the best female empowerment songs of the past ten years". He selected it as one of The Evolution's standouts amd deemed it the only "clear-cut" highlight, USA Today critcic Elysa Gardner commented that Amy plays a demure temptress" on the single, showcasing a " slight but sweetly tangy voice and a budding empowerment presence" , while reviewing the song, St. Louis Post-Dispatch's Kevin Johnson commented that "Amy-Jayne is one of the best artists out there, thats keeps reinventing her sound to perfection", Dan Luke of The Pilot recommended the track for digital download. Sal Almani of Slant wrote that the song is "decidedly different" from Amy's previous singles, which he believes that Amy "is evolving into a unique artist", Jim Abbot of Olando Times stated that " unfortunately, it's nosalgia, not evolution, that makes a mod-tempo somg work, but Amy has seemed to balance both", Mark Edwards of About.com remarked that 'Glow' is among some of Amy's best songs, but stated that her vocals when singing at times become to aggressive", PopMatters critic Matt Cubalia said that the song "is strange but brilliant", but also critized Amy's vocals, Makkalah Zelah of The Village called the song in her eyes "plan, bland and boring", Dan Gennoe of Yahoo! Music Uk said that with this track Amy-Jayne shows that her music is always evolving into better music, its a nice progression but she still need to work", Nick Lavine of Digital Spy said that "the track itself, is just as empowering as I imagined from the preview we got, 'Glow' is pretty much on the money", Lauren Cater Said it doesn't really glow, but it grows on you", Bill Lamb of About.com gave the song a four out of five starts, calling it "a women's song" that "any woman can relate to regardless of genre preferences", Lamb also commented that "the unique piano beat should carry the song high in the charts", Jeremy Dalton of Entertainment Weekly said "adding an Indie vibe could either make or break this song and the album, but I personally think the urban and indie vibe blends well", caramantica called the song " an unexpected twist in style" calling Amy still curiously anonymous", Tom Barret of Pitchfork Media said that the song "isn't bad, its just to simple and plain in structure", Jordan Sargert of PopMatters said that "the song isn't mainstream enough and could struggle in the charts against more mainstream songs", cassidy Lagahann of PopJuctice though the song was "catchy" and "will get support from the girls"
