Released: June 13th, 2014 [USA] June 12th, 2014 [UK]
Recorded: June 2013 - April 2014
Genre(s): Alternative Rock, Indie rock, Psychedelic rock, R&B/Soul, Folk, Pop Rock
Length: 48:12
Label: Studio60 Records
Writer(s): Hayden Merjos, Phil N., Ashley Hutchenson, Jennifer Armstrong
Producer(s): Hayden Merjos, Phil N, Winny Valdez

Sh*t Happens is the second studio album from Hayden Merjos. After the success of his first album, Hayden went on tour to promote and then went quiet for a few months which turned into years. It wasn't until 2013 when we'd hear from the singer again, releasing his first single in over 2 years. The duet with Pop/Rock singer Jennifer Armstrong, 'Piece Of Mind' was born and became his first number one single along with the highest downloaded single of the year with 390,000 digital copies. The second single, 'How To Get On By' was released in November and the breakbeat/soul inspired track also did well on the charts, debuting in the top 10. Hayden would go quite for a few months after, taking time for his personal life after marrying Katie Coyle in April and he only teased about releasing new music via Twitter.

Then in May, Hayden announced that he had been working on a new single and had prepped a new single which would feature another fellow artist, though he kept the details vague, it was revealed that he had teamed with Allison Cooper and together they worked on 'Take Your Place.' The alternative rock charged single was released on May 20th. Then, the following week, he released his album entitled 'Sh*t Happens' or 'Shit Happens.' The album is a mixture of indie folk, alternative rock and soul. The album has been well received by critics who praises Hayden's 'unique perspective on life with witty and truthful lyrics that also entertain.' And they also credit him with 'blending multiple sounds to create a memorable album which is an improvement from his first.' The album will be available for download on iTunes June 13th and sent to stores the following week. Plans are also being made for a tour.

The album itself is said to be a 'point, blank, period' album without sugar coating. It tackles different subjects from Loss of love, death, even being on drugs. Merjos also teamed with some new producers and wrote all lyrics by himself with the exception of 'LSD,' and 'Piece Of Mind' which Jennifer Armstrong co-wrote. He also co-produced each track and the album itself. The album also has more of a rock influence than his previous one where he focused more on the indie and folk genre. Hayden says the album is 'his best so far.'

Hannah Beth, le sister - Thank you for being like a mother to me and always staying on my ass when I was younger. I learned everything there is to know about music through you and dad and that's all I ever needed. You're the sweetest sister I know and I love you. You're the first person who really believed in me and told me to go after what I really wanted so that's thanks in itself. Dad would be proud of you.

Dad, my dad of course - Truth be told, I wish you were still here with us. This album definitely has a lot of you in it so I think you should be here when I earn my multiple award nominations and high praises ;) But seriously, I know you're watching and really proud of your family. I love you without a shadow of a doubt and you know something? I'm glad to have spent time with you before you went away. You were my second biggest influence in music and taught me everything about guitars so I'm very grateful for that. RIP.

Phil N., the mastermind behind Hayden - You've been with me for both of my albums and you're probably the only producer and songwriter I really trust with complete control over my album. Not many producers listen or know what you want but this man does. He definitely trusts me and I trust him. He's been a great friend as well, excellent man. I can't wait to celebrate another great album with you when this is all over. I know your daughter would be proud of you man, thanks for everything.

Jennifer, one of my closest friends - Of course I couldn't forget you, you've been huge role in this album even if you were just featured on one song. We've had long talks about it and you're a great friend and somebody who realy listens and gives great advice. I'm excited about your next project and ours as well. You're one of the few artists out there that I really respect and the industry needs you. You've got one of the greatest voices this generation has ever heard of and you're not full of shit so that's another thing. Thanks for agreeing to do the record with me and now I can't wait to dwell into our own project.

Winny, Sarah, Bill, Lawrence, Carter, Sammy, Allison, Luther, because I'm lazy right now - Thank you each for your contributions to this album. Each of you has a god given talent and I hope to see your names on more albums if not your own one day. I could've have possibly made this album without all of you. It wouldn't be what it is now without you guys. Thanks for putting up with my crazy, late night sessions and my OCD-like behavior when it came to the music and lyrics.

Bianca, also a good friend of mine - Really glad to have someone like you as a friend and in the industry. You're really talented and I'm amazed every time I hear a song from you. You've helped a lot of artists and you play a mean mandolin. I hope you always stay as level headed and hot headed as you are and Luca is definitely proud to have you as a mother. You're young and got the whole world ahead of you so I hope to see you headlining huge tours and killing it in the industry as you have already. Any time I needed a lyric or idea, you were always a call away and you never hesitated to contribute on a record. I love that about you; you're a person who truly loves music. I can see it when you sing or play. Don't let me go on and on, just saying thanks for your help and can't wait to be reading your thank you's for your album.

Katie Merjos, because she's completely forgotten she used to be a Coyle - So here we are, married with our little family. Nobody could've told me you and I would be this way years ago, I wouldn't believe it. You're a much more beautiful soul than I could have ever imagined. I absolutely love and adore you and I promise to be the best husband ever. I know I'm difficult and I've been a little distant with recording this album but now it's finished and I'm with you. You're also a huge inspiration in this album and I hope you realize that when you listen. I've actually learned a lot from you, musically and personally. I still think you're the greats female folk artist in the industry and whenever you do decide to return, you will always have my support. You're the most beautiful, intelligent, funny, sweet, amazing, crazy woman I've ever met and I'm glad that I attended that Chaos Awards ceremony ;) You're a wonderful mother and I can't wait until our second little one is born. You've been with me for some of the most exciting and worse times of my life and you've been a friend first. I can tell you things I don't tell others and I can be an asshole or a sweetheart and you love me all the same. I never really apologized for how I treated you in the past but that's all in the past. You're the only woman I want to be with and the only woman who will ever completely have my heart. I love you so much and you've made me the happiest guy in the world.

PS. Did I tell you how much I love you?

And last but certainly not least

My beautiful fans, who are not getting named - You've got to be the most dedicated group of fans I've known. You see, even though you guys don't win awards, you don't get recognized all the time, people make jokes that you don't exist, you have to put up with extensions and push backs, you're still here. Lies have been told, I've probably offended more than enough people on Twitter (possibly the world) you've remained here and I don't give you enough credit. I know you'll all enjoy this album because it comes from a good place. You do so much for me, after all you've gotten me the highest downloaded song of 2013 and this year so far, so I know you work hard. A lot of people don't believe in me or what I do and that I'm all talk but I know I've shown more than enough times I'm genuine about my work and I've got a lot of talent. I may not be everyone's cup of tea but somehow I've found a group of people who love me and I love you back. I hope you enjoy the album as much as I know you will and no matter what happens, I'm happy so remember that. So enjoy the album again and again and again!

Genre: Pop, R&B
Format: Digital Download, CD
Label: Studio60 Records
Writer(s): Hayden Merjos
Producer(s): Hayden Merjos, Phil N.

Description
'Girl' is a song by American singer/songwriter Hayden. It was given as a free track for fans when they pre-ordered Hayden's album, Sh*t Happens on iTunes. The track is more R&B inspired with a different sound than we're used to but also opens the eyes to the endless possibilities for the album. Critics praised the track saying Hayden's vocals are defined in the track, the way he is able to go to falsetto's so easily and back to a nice, gentle tone within the verses. Also noted in the song is Hayden rapping for the second verse as opposed to singing it again. Phil N and Hayden Merjos produced the track with all songwriting credits coming from Hayden. Lyrically, the track is about attempting to leave a relationship but ultimately wanting to stay.

Musically, the track has bits and pieces of an early Justin Timberlake from his 'Justified' album, more specifically, 'Like I Love You' with it's quirky, smooth and catchy guitar and hooks. Hayden proves to be more than just a one genre man as he takes on more Pop and R&B inspired sounds which are also noticeable on his album. The track starts off with the simple drum pattern and acoustic guitar with Hayden's vocals being heard over the track, having the guitar assist him in the background. Throughout the track, there are also different effects going on here and there to accompany the track but the guitar and drum pattern are the main beat. He switches gears when he sings the pre-chorus, going complete falsetto mood and then back to normal for the chorus and in the background, you hear Hayden acting as back up singer and yelling, 'Give!' and 'Chance!' For the second verse, he changes gears by rapping instead of singing. He seems to go about it with ease, having a nice and easy flow to listen to and though he's probably not got a future in hip hop, it's catchy enough to sing along to. The bridge of the song, Hayden returns to the falsetto mode and the beat breaks down a little, eventually only leaving the guitar to be played. When the song comes to its ending, there's a mixture and loop of the chorus along with the pre-chorus until the track ends after the last 'Chance!'

They say I'm crazy
My blood's running low
Running from you
But I've got nowhere to go
Sitting here for the night
Plotting when I'm gonna strike
No reason to get cold feet, now

Thinking all night long
About those famous lips that I've kissed
And how they'll be on somebody new
I can't make my way back home
Forgetting the times and laughs we've missed
Even if only for a few

The wind is blowin'
But you're standing still
I won't be a hero
But you know I will
Oh-Oh-Oh-Ooh-Oh
Oh-Oh-Oh-Ooh-Oh
I can't stop you from messing with my head
When I need your loving you are never here
Oh-Oh-Oh-Ooh-Oh
Oh-Oh-Oh-Ooh-Oh

Give!
Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh
Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh, Give me a chance
Chance!
Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh
Give!
Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh

But I don't know
If I can hold out for another day
Unless you show me real change in your dirty ways
You're not interested in knowing what I've been through
The only person that you care and worry about is you, Ooh
It's always something new
You don't even have to speak, it's what you do
Lost, not really sure what I'm fighting for
Seems your lost interest when I walked out the door
Not too many times that I can play the fool
Had my life in your hands and I played your rules
How you treating me ain't cool
Sadly to say I was blinded and now I'm trying
To take back all the love I had
She said she loves good guys so I'm playing bad, oh
I thought I fell in love with my world
But over time I found out
You were just a silly little girl

The wind is blowin'
But you're standing still
I won't be a hero
But you know I will
Oh-Oh-Oh-Ooh-Oh
Oh-Oh-Oh-Ooh-Oh
I can't stop you from messing with my head
When I need your loving you are never here
Oh-Oh-Oh-Ooh-Oh
Oh-Oh-Oh-Ooh-Oh

Give!
Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh
Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh, Give me a chance
Chance!
Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh
Give!
Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh

Don't play the victim, you weren't crying when you called me by his name
Don't play the victim, when you speak all I'm hearing are excuses
Don't play the victim, hope you know what you really want in your next man, baby
Because you'll never have one like me again
Don't play the victim
Oooh
Don't play the victim
Oooohh, no nooo

Give!
The wind is blowin' (Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh)
But you're standing still
I won't be a hero
But you know I will (Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh, Give me a chance)
Oh-Oh-Oh-Ooh-Oh (Chance!)
Oh-Oh-Oh-Ooh-Oh (Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh)
Give! (Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh, Give me a chance)
I can't stop you from messing with my head (Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh)
When I need your loving you are never here (Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh, Give me a chance)
Oh-Oh-Oh-Ooh-Oh (Give!)
Oh-Oh-Oh-Ooh-Oh
Chance!

"Each song coincides with the album, and that's why I say none of this album would happen if all of these particular songs weren't on there. Some might call some of them fillers or whatever but honestly, the album wouldn't be complete without each song. Taking a song away would take away from the album's entire theme."

With the release date of Hayden's new album, 'Sh*t Happens' creeping up on everyone, Hayden decided to give an in-depth analysis of the album; the themes, the messages, and the idea behind the album itself. He even goes as far as to analyze all 12 songs in hopes of the album being understood in full capacity.

"I started recording the album in late June of last year and the first song I recorded was 'Piece Of Mind'. At the time, I didn't know what sound I was going for or what the album was going to be about. I just had that song stuck in my head for a while so I released it as a single with Jen and it just sort of took off. I didn't expect anyone to really care since I had been away from music for a while. I'm glad someone did at least (laughs).

The album itself, it's just an entire idea, one idea, about life. It's [the album] supposed to be sort of....thought provoking but mainly a way to just accept things. With the way things are, people just haven't really learned that shit happens in life and sometimes there's not a damn thing we can do about it, accept it. Now the album cover, it's all cartoon like and it almost looks like a meme which I wanted it to. It's like the album is a big meme saying, 'Shit happens, get over it' and you know each song is kinda like that. Shit happened in the story of the song and now you move on to the next song and the next until the end. All this shit has happened and what are you gonna do about it? Probably listen to the album again and move on with your life. (chuckles)"

Hayden decided to reach out to fellow musician and songwriter, Phil N., who also worked with him on his first album, 'Perception.'

"Phil is always going to have a part of my albums with him because, honestly, you can't get any better in terms of producing an album and getting that sound or thought you want across. He's always done an amazing job, listening, you know, taking direction as well as giving it. He's not just a producer who comes in and says, 'Okay, this is what's gonna happen, this is what you're gonna sing, song's done' no, he likes input and people like me have a lot of input. He gets you to think and not just write lyrics. He gets you to feel. If you're not feeling what you're singing or if you don't really put yourself in the song, listen, I've seen him just leave because you'd be wasting his time and yours. He wants you to feel what you say and not be a hollow singer.

I, for the most part, stuck to Rock in the album. It's a big turn from my last album, which I'll admit I don't really care for now. I mean it's a good album but this one is definitely better. I, um, I took influences from a lot of my favorite artists. I mean, I don't really care for most music these days but I also don't just listen to my own. There's a lot of Motown going on, there's a lot of soul, a lot of rock, I mean it's a wonderful blend.

Each song is its own little story. There's no link to them, they are just all separate stories of having to accept something and move on. I was inspired by events of my own life and others around me so no, not every song is completely about me."

Dancing Shoes
"What's funny about this song is that it was the last song I recorded and it's basically one of my favorites. Actually, I love each song. I put it as the first track because it's sort of the album opener and it catches you off guard from the start. It's just boom, in your face soul music with hints of Jazz. It's an insane track. It's one of those fun tracks that has a great sense of humor to it. It's the 'preparing you for the rest of the album' track."

Side Note: The track was originally called, 'Move.'

Hide
"You can definitely hear the Motown, Marvin Gaye, Temptations influence going on here. My father was a huge fan of Motown and he played their records all day long, all the time. This song is about an unexpected pregnancy in an already dying relationship. She basically isn't very welcomed and she just happens to come around with a pregnancy and he just wishes she was better at hiding, so to speak, staying away. I love this song because of the guitar solo in it, which was added last minute. It really adds something to the track in my eyes. That and the 'shoo wop shoo wops.' You're not hearing these types of songs on the radio anymore and you probably won't, unless you're listening to a good radio station."

Side Note: Originally, there was no guitar solo or backing vocals. The song was also the first to make it onto the album.

Mad
"It's the 'coming to be a man' song. The song was influenced by my father when I was growing up. You know he'd tell me that there's a lot more to being a man than what people think. It has nothing to do with attraction, it has nothing to do with how many women you're with at all. It's about taking responsibility and being able to do things and make choices that are hard. I feel like I've become a man with a lot of choices I've had to make and it nearly drove me insane. I wanted to be my father, when I was younger. After he died, I felt a sense of having to become the man of the house and I liked it but it was a challenge. He was the wise one and he knew everything and so me having to figure it all out with growing up was challenging."

Side Note: This track was originally called, 'Only God Can Save You' but was changed to 'Mad' so it would sound more prompt and less capable of sounding religious or anything of that nature. While recording, Hayden was sick so his voice was cracking in a few places but he opted not to edit it out.

Piece Of Mind Ft. Jennifer Armstrong
"Ahh yes, this song was romantic and R&B inspired. I wrote my parts and I wanted someone on it so I called Jen. She has a great voice that suited the track and the right attitude. She's always got that spunk in her and it shows on this record as well. Originally, it was just going to be me but I thought it sounded boring with just my voice so I added some flavor to it, Jen, and now it sounds amazing. The piano is all me and at first it was just the violins with the kick drum then I went back and recorded a few piano notes for it. It's forbidden love but having that piece of mind that even though you can't have something, it's still there and you get to see it. It sucks but...you know."

Side Note: Originally called 'Forbidden' Hayden changed the song after talking about the song with Armstrong. He said he, 'got a great understanding of the lyrics after she wrote her part.' The track is also the only one without guitar.

Is There More?
"This, and 'Take Your Place' are probably the most indie folk driven songs on the album. It's really.....thunderous and upbeat but the lyrics are the opposite. I almost felt like I was performing in the back roads of Texas or something, it was great. It was the first time I've use a mandolin in a song I believe, and a banjo. I wrote the song in a few minutes and we kept recording it and recording it and recording it because I thought I wanted a rock sound but it wasn't working. We experimented with a banjo and Phil just started playing with the idea of adding a mandolin and giving it that folk sound to it. I had the lyrics but didn't have a beat so I called my good friend, Bianca, and we just sort of had a jam session. She had her mandolin, I had my guitar and we played together. It came out great in my opinion. Relationships crumble sometimes and you find yourself asking, 'Is there more to this? Is there anything else I can get from this?' and then you decide if you should weather the storm or just leave, is the message of the song."

Side Note: The banjo and mandolin were added in last minute, giving the song a whole new direction. The backup vocals for the track are provided by Bianca Moretti, although uncredited.

Guiltiest Man
"Another strong folk song on here, this one came completely out of nowhere. Phil and I were playing around with sounds and we just got this really.....I guess you can call it twangy guitar type with some really slamming beats and it almost kind of blows your mind. I've never done a record like it. This was going to be saved for another album but I decided to put it on here because the performance of it, it's going to be crazy. I originally wrote it with the intent of being a duet but then I decided this one would be fine with just me alone. This song represents hopelessness. That's why in the lyrics, I say, 'Try my luck turnin' water to wine' that's basically sarcastic way of saying I've got no chance. It's just sometimes you lose hope, everyone does. But you know, you can find it again."

Side Note: The song was originally a duet with Hayden and Jennifer Armstrong. Instead, he decided to put her on 'Piece Of Mind.' Bianca Moretti also is featured in the song as backup vocals.

She Just Looked Better To Me But You're Alright
"This song, it's just classic Hayden as one would say. It's a comedic song for all purposes of being funny. Where to start....well the instrumentation is pretty simple. It's got that R&B mixed with rock feel to it, almost reminds you of maybe...say...Snoop Dogg? A little West coast feel to it. It's what I really wanted, something I didn't hear from most artists when it came to rock music, it was just straight hardcore or alternative but I think with the fusion of the R&B, it really makes it better. It's a story which most can relate to, a guy in a bar somewhere and he's pursuing a beautiful girl but there's another who's not as aesthetically pleasing as the other so you try to be nice without completely blowing her off, but it's kind of hard, right? All through the song, I'm trying to apologize for seemingly being shallow with caring about looks but you know sometimes a man can't help himself. A man likes what he likes. It has a coolness to the song that hopefully fans appreciate, it's all about being cool while rejecting the woman."

Side Note: Hayden named the song, 'She Just Looked Better To Me But You're Alright' simply because he 'wanted a long title for a song.' He also wanted to capture the whole theme of the song and said the title does that.

Take Your Place Ft. Allison Cooper
"This record is another folk inspired song with horns and all the elements to also make it a rock song. I wrote this, almost instantly, and it's pretty easy to find out who the song is about but it's got a dark twist to it. It's ultimately about death, and being okay with it. Maybe a Romeo ad Juliet type thing where they are both preparing to die together and he's trying to calm her down as she's freaking out about it. I just thought it was a clever story to come up with and not your typical love song. I asked Allison to assist with the song because I knew it would fit her perfectly; her voice, her style, and her whole fascination with some weird things. She loved it and we recorded it about two days tops and then we finished. I chose this as the third single because I felt like it would be nice to hear on the radio or wherever. I knew it would be a collaboration because just me wouldn't have been enough on the track, and I can accept that. It's upbeat but really plays with the dark theme of the song. It's back and forth in the way it's sung and it's just a great record."

Side Note: Hayden initially wanted to have Yasmine as the collaborator but instead chose Allision Cooper.

Consolation Prize
"This has a sort of classic sound to it and it doesn't sound real current, if you understand. I believe this one is a great rock record and I got to really have fun playing my guitar here. It's got a simple drum and guitar, maybe something you'd hear with teens in a garage or something similar. It's a fairly simple song, just the metaphor of the heart being a consolation prize for someone instead of being the only heart. It's just a heartbreak song and something people deal with all the time. In the end, the mistake was that it was all being taken as a game in the first place instead of actual love and that screwed everything up, on both sides."

Side Note: The song was extended after Hayden added in his extra guitar solos and parts where it's an instrumental break.

How To Get On By
"Clearly, the song is filled with angst and anger but it's got a very soulful beat to it. It's another genre I've come to love and that's breakbeat. I love the whole movement and dances to it. This generation, it's all about dance songs and you know, other great music isn't being appreciated like it should be. The song was just, about the whole summary of the album. It's how to get past something, even as complicated as a break up. People teach you along the way and you don't realize it until they've hurt you, they've taught you how to become independent and move on. It's a great upbeat record that I always enjoy playing live. I added in the horns because I felt that was like the really big picture, the horns. Without it, the song would've sounded bland and just okay but now? It sounds phenomenal."

Side Note: In the original version of the song, instead of singing 'How to get on by,' Hayden sang, 'I can surely fly.'

False and Fibs Ft. Sammy Griffin
"I've always admired Sammy Griffin so when I asked to do a song with him and he said yes, I was glad. The song was written by Phil and I, we sent it to Sammy and he loved it. We recorded it and made the decision to just have a really acoustic track and make it a stripped back record. The song is completely live, no editing or anything so I was pretty happy we got it done in like one take. The title of the song, 'False and Fibs' represents the whole song. People go through life wanting to expect the best but only get bad news and you sort of just keep trudging along but at what point does it not make any sense to keep doing that? So, the girl is just having a hard time in life and she always has. She wants better but there's nothing for her and she's stuck in her situation. To others, when she speaks, it sounds like nonsense but she really believes in herself. Sometimes that's all you need, is your strong beliefs."

Side Note: Hayden and Phil N. wrote the song in a hour.

LSD
"The final track on the album, I'm not going to lie it's probably my favorite song on here. Believe it or not, I was inspired by a friend of mine. There's just that simple rhythm and drum kick going, and here I am singing about being high on acid, great right? I mean I've never personally been on an acid trip but I wanted to know what it was like and this was probably as close to a description as I got. The whole 'purple fields await' was what was described to me when I asked what people saw most of the time. They saw bright colors and just the craziest shit. I didn't want to over complicate the song because I felt the lyrics went perfectly with the beat and the 60's kind of rock vibe with the psychedelic vibe to it, its great. I was just having a jam session with it and it came out like this. I even got a special guitar for it, the synth like sound with the whole 'trippy' vibe you get, it's just amazing beyond words. I'm really proud of this record and I'll probably release it as a single, I don't know. But if you've ever wanted to sort of hear what LSD sounds like, this might be close."

Side Note: 'LSD' was written after Hayden talked to a homeless woman who did acid regularly. He asked him to describe what it was like and Hayden wrote about it.

Track One: Dancing Shoes
Released: June 13th, 2014
Length: 3:18
Genre: Pop/Rock, Jazz rock
Format: Digital Download, CD
Label: Studio60 Records
Writer(s): Hayden Merjos
Producer(s): Hayden Merjos

Description
Sure to throw you off guard, the first track of Hayden's album, 'Dancing Shoes' is a mix of Jazz, Rock, and a whole lot of fun. The track is simultaneously silly in content and serious in musical chops. This one is supremely addictive. It is pure silliness in lyrics, but it is also certain to get your attention. Some might call it a piece of 'cheerleader rock' which the industry has experienced with songs from Avril Lavinge (Girlfriend) and Gwen Stefani and the infamous, 'Hollaback Girl,' but Merjos twists things a bit by fusing jazz-rock influences with the brass of a marching band and pleas to 'Come on, put on your dancing shoes.' The energy on the track is almost unbearable but you can't help but to applaud the efforts for really tapping into a unique sound with the record. The track was written and produced by Hayden.

It is similar in sound to 'How To Get On By' in that it carries a strong Jazz influence and high energy with equally fitting lyrics. Although this has less of a breakbeat influence, the clear old school sound mixes with a hint of modern music. One thing is clear, it's a great track to be heard on the radio although it's also very different from what's being blasted on there constantly now. Hayden is able to dash into his own sound without completely abandoning his rock roots. His voice also undergoes unique ranges and changes, from the signature quirky voice to the high and amazing falsettos he manages to reach that even most female singers can't.

Lyrically, the song focuses on dancing and having a good time, which is a clear step away from his previous, moody singles. He enlisted the influence of a marching band along with some jazz influence with horns and trumpets. The peppiness of the track is what is most appealing and draws you in. You instantly feel as if you're at the biggest football game of the year and it's halftime. He adds even more to the song with the cheerleader's voices (or just some random girls) in the background for the bridge of the song and the infectious, 'Na na na's' which take place. The track doesn't lac in enthusiasm at all and is a perfect album opener.

Got no time to be afraid, just move
Come on, put on your dancing shoes
When you know you got nothing to lose
Come on and put on your dancing shoes

You've been working all day
Never taking time for yourself
Time to throw off all the weights
And stop worrying 'bout everyone else
Don't it feel good? (Good)
When you're dancing the night away (Hey hey!)
Don't you stop, not now
Make the neighbors stay awake

Got no time to be afraid, just move
Come on, put on your dancing shoes
When you know you got nothing to lose
Come on and put on your dancing shoes
Cus you own it now, own it now
Go on and put on your dancing shoes
Put away all that you've been through
And come on, put on your dancing shoes

Leave your heart out on the floor
Give a little bit and then give 'em some more
Hope you find what you're looking for, and if you don't
It's okay you're still doing you're own thing
Don't it feel good? (Good)
When you're dancing the night away (Hey hey!)
Don't you stop, not now
Make the neighbors stay awake

Got no time to be afraid, just move
Come on, put on your dancing shoes
When you know you got nothing to lose
Come on and put on your dancing shoes
Cus you own it now, own it now
Go on and put on your dancing shoes
Put away all that you've been through
And come on, put on your dancing shoes

(Alright, alright
Let's break it on down!)

Now move it to the left, now move it to the right
Put on your shoes and get down tonight (Get on down!)
Na na na na na na na na na na na na na, dancing shoes
Now move it to the left, now move it to the right
Put on your shoes and get down tonight (I said get on down!)
Na na na na na na na na na na na na na, dancing shoes

Got no time to be afraid, just move
Come on, put on your dancing shoes
When you know you got nothing to lose
Come on and put on your dancing shoes
Cus you own it now, own it now
Go on and put on your dancing shoes (Shoooes)
Put away all that you've been through
And come on, put on your dancing shoes
Shooooes, shoooooes, shoooooes, ooh!

Track Two: Hide
Released: June 13th, 2014
Length: 3:01
Genre: Psychedelic Rock, Indie rock
Format: Digital Download, CD
Label: Studio60 Records
Writer(s): Hayden Merjos
Producer(s): Hayden Merjos, Phil N.

Description
Moving along but keeping the momentum from the first track of the 'Sh*t Happens' Merjos takes us on a journey in a tale of sarcasm and discontent. With a throwback sound to the 60's, 'Hide' soars through with a unique drum beat that drives the tune. The one sure way to describe the beat is it gallops along on a mariachi rhythm, dragging the desert influence back into the city, and touching on psychedelic rock. It sounds a touch of something not too far from Jimi Hendrix but with Hayden's personal touch added to it. What also adds to the song is the little detailed addition of the background 'shoo wops' in which you can clearly tell Hayden went back in the time machine for this one. Although there's not much variation in his voice, besides the high falsettos in the background, he's able to keep your attention with his savvy way of storytelling with the rhythm.

The story starts with the unraveling of the relationship of a man and woman who have a seemingly love/hate relationship which takes an odd turn when she visits him again. Despite his attempts to get over her, the guy insists on still seeing her, even though she's got ulterior motives. It's not exactly clear what they are but throughout the song, the lyrics suggest a pregnancy, 'Your face is pale perhaps out of fright' but it's not stated in the song. He goes on to say how there's nothing left to reclaim or go back on and he wishes she'd tried better to stay away. Another element that drives the song is the unique guitar riffs heard which for a moment, take you to a trip during the peaceful times and almost a foreshadow of the 'LSD' trip coming soon later in the album.

The drums associated with this track are also provided for by Hayden. He got the inspiration after listening to some classic rock albums along with his running inspiration of R&B for the album. He wanted them to sound as if they were running, similar to the girl in the song who always ran but managed to come back and make a mess of things. The addition of the tambourine was to also add to the 60's rock sound.

My one free day I leave a call
No longer are you there standing in my hall
But I’ve missed you and I’ve missed all your antics too

They say with age people get mature
But they forgot who they’re speaking for
You’ve not changed and you don’t ever plan to

You know just what you’re doing leading me on (Shoo wop shoo wop)
Has it been that long? (Shoo wop shoo wop)
Is there something left to reignite? (Shoo wop shoo wop)
Your face is pale perhaps out of fright (Shoo wop shoo wop)
I wish you’d tried better to hide

Something tells me you planned this out of spite
Somewhere, your friends laughing and at my expense
They say you’re an angel and I’m the devil that caused your accident

You know just what you’re doing leading me on (Shoo wop shoo wop)
Has it been that long? (Shoo wop shoo wop)
Is there something left to reignite? (Shoo wop shoo wop)
Your face is pale perhaps out of fright (Shoo wop shoo wop)
I wish you’d tried better to hide

I should’ve stayed away but poison’s never not disguised (Shoo wop shoo wop)
Money never calmed you you’re just a beast unsatisfied (Shoo wop shoo wop)
Piece by piece the puzzle was in my face (Shoo wop shoo wop)

You know just what you’re doing leading me on (Shoo wop shoo wop)
Has it been that long? (Shoo wop shoo wop)
Is there something left to reignite? (Shoo wop shoo wop)
Your face is pale perhaps out of fright (Shoo wop shoo wop)
I wish you’d tried better to hide

(Shoo wop shoo wop)
(Shoo wop shoo wop)

Track Three: Piece Of Mind Ft. Jennifer Armstrong
Released: August 31st, 2013
Format: Digital Download, CD
Genre: R&B Ballad
Length: 4:27
Label: Studio60 Records
Writer(s): Hayden Merjos, Jennifer Armstrong
Producer: Phil N., Winny Valdez

Hayden Merjos may be the outspoken character that Twitter adores but it's hard to forget he's also a very talented musician. Although he has yet to reach the sort of mainstream success as RRH, Stephanie Fierce, or even Suzie, his influence on Pop culture and the world is relevant enough to continue his career. His singles may not top the charts but album sales have told the story of a loyal and varied fan base over the past few years (His album among the ranks of Julia Volkova, Riot! In The Boulevard, and Abie Lena), prompting the notion that success comes in many different forms. From the time of his arrival until his very last single, Hayden Merjos has captured the attention of all, for good and bad purposes. He's battled with controversy and maintained a bit of privacy with his personal life. After teasing fans with new music for over a year, it was finally revealed to us that the first single of the year from him was a collaboration with none other than rising Pop star herself, Jennifer Armstrong.

The two childhood friends would then start in an exchange of cryptic tweets all leading up until the premiere of the new single, 'Piece Of Mind'. Hayden took a new perspective on his music by giving it a more R&B feel with the addition of Jennifer's powerhouse vocals and his smooth melodies. He describes the track as being more 'stripped back and beautiful without having to trick the listener into thinking it's a good single'. He incorporates his classic favorite instruments like violins and drums as well as adding keyboards and synthesizers. Although no word on if he's working on a new album as of yet has surfaced, we can bet, as anything Hayden does, it will be shocking and honest.

"When you think about something that gives you piece of mind, it's relaxing and calming. You don't have to worry about it. When you think about someone who gives you piece of mind, they are your true love and probably always have been. It's a love story but more importantly it's a tale about triumph over the friend-zone because that can be a bitch. I chose to go this route for my first single because I wanted to show that not all singles have to have such over production that it drowns out the message and tastefulness of the song. You can do some much with music today, you don't even have to sing. I believe this really pushes back to good music. It's really beautiful to me and Jennifer nails it with her vocals. She's easily one of the most gifted singers of our generation." - Hayden Merjos

'Piece Of Mind' is an R&B ballad by American singers Hayden Merjos and Jennifer Armstrong. Written by Merjos and Armstrong, it's the first single to be released from his rumored new album which might be released late this year. It was released on August 31st and sent to all radio stations as well as to iTunes for digital download. It marks the first single from him of the year. Although Hayden is known for his indie and folk roots as well as pop rock, P.O.M serves more on the R&B side of music. The track opens up with a nice, light piano followed by some soft synthesizers that carry the piano playing. It creates a grand like sound, preparing for the track to fully come about. Hayden's vocals which are sincere and soft are heard as he sings the first few lines slowly and low. The second half of the verse, you can hear Armstrong's vocals in the background with soft 'Ahh's' that are accentuated at the end. Once he gets into the chorus, the music sort of shifts as does his vocals. They get louder and more grander, hearing the small raspiness as he sings. The piano and synths are still playing in the background causing the song to still feel as if it were missing something and then with Armstrong's vocals, the drums kick in, completing the beat. A simple yet sufficient pattern to match Armstrong's strong and bouncy vocals. She does the opposite of Hayden's tone, starting off with more feeling and a higher key and then goes lower in the second half of the verse, their combined 'Ahh's' being heard now. The two join together again for the singing of the chorus, vocalizing as Hayden goes high and Armstrong goes low. Hayden's soprano voice coming in effect in the fourth line of it. The break down plays with the violins now being heard in full effect. Armstrong takes the opportunity to shine through with her beautiful and soulful vocals. They both join up again for the bridge, the first three lines they belt out together. They had such a powerfulness in their voices, singing with such passion the hairs on your body will stand up. Jennifer gives a very chilling performance in that it leaves you in goosebumps at the capacity of which she can switch up from just plain loud and almost overbearing to soprano and sweet. The last two lines Hayden sings on his own, bringing the tone back down from such a stunning vocal performance. He sings the beginning of the chorus, again alone and then Armstrong joins in for the two to match their chemistry once again. The full instrumentation is now being heard alongside their vocals, nothing being held back now as the song wraps up. Once they finish singing, the simple intro plays from the beginning and then fades to silence.

Lyrics

Blue = Hayden
Magenta = Jennifer Armstrong
Black = Together

[Verse 1]
I keep driving by your house
Just waiting to see your smile
Something inside of me grows
But I know we're not allowed

We've known each other so long
There ain't no way to deny it
You carry on like your strong
But inside you're just dying
I see the look that's in your eyes

[Chorus]
My heart tells me, nothing will be the same again
It tells me, not a soul will ever take your place
You're the one I want, You're the one I need
Not anyone will do
My heart tells me, you're my only piece of mind

Ohhh, Ohhh
Ohhh, Ohhh

[Verse 2]
Every day I see you come by
You won't let it go, will you?
Something so simple between us
Became so complicated, in a matter of seconds

We've known each other so long
There ain't no way to deny it
You carry on like your strong
But inside you're just dying
I see the look that's in your eyes

[Chorus]
My heart tells me, nothing will be the same again
It tells me, not a soul will ever take your place
You're the one I want, You're the one I need
Not anyone will do
My heart tells me, you're my only piece of mind

Ohhh, Ohhh
Piece of mi-i-ind
Piece of mi-i-ind
You are

[Bridge]
There's nothing stronger than our attraction
With you I see a future that's forever lastin'
You take my hand and I'll follow you

I don't need to use my eyes
I'm listening to your voice, cus

[Chorus]
My heart tells me, nothing will be the same again
It tells me,
not a soul will ever take your place
You're the one I want, You're the one I need
Not anyone will do
My heart tells me, you're my only piece of mind,
oh-h-h-h-h, my mind
My heart tells me you're my piece of mi-i-i-ind, yeah

(My heart tells me) My heart tells me, you're my only piece of mind

Track Four: Is There More?
Released: June 13th, 2014
Length: 4:36
Genre: Folk rock, indie folk, bluegrass
Format: Digital Download, CD
Label: Studio60 Records
Writer(s): Hayden Merjos, Phil N.
Producer(s): Hayden Merjos, Phil N.

Description
Banjos, violins and a country style that is made for lazy summer days, describes the next track on the album.'Is There More?' was written by Hayden Merjos and Phil N. One of the more bluegrass and folk inspired tracks on the record, it's mainly driven by the slamming mandolin and banjo being heard in the background as well as the horns, which Hayden seems to favor on the album. Musically, it is building up slowly and breaking into a foot stomping beat before breaking down again into it's guitar strumming and hand clapping rhthym. He starts off with a quiet and sort of already defeated attitude in the first verse which is followed by a quiet version of the chorus that follows before the song starts building up momentum. Hayden's vocals also give way to sounding less rock and more of a country vibe and also one of a man who's been through a lot and sounds tired, which oddly enough is stated in the song, 'But god knows I'm so tired.' In the song, the singer insinuates a need for change, whether it be a relationship or whatever the case, there is a loss of spark and happiness between the pair. As he sings, you can definitely hear the desire to know if there is more to what is in front of him or if it's all finished.

More than the driving kick drum, what sends this song forward is Hayden’s vocal delivery. Spurred on by the frenetic banjo, the song soon becomes an unyielding force. It seems to be an all out jam session as the song continues and it's quite enjoyable. With all the doors open, a huge force of energy sparks and Hayden seem to lose control, in a good and organized way, in which really is the highlight of the song. As all the instruments come together, frantically being played, with Moretti as a guess musician on the record with her mandolin. They mixture of instruments mesh well together and create and unforgettable as well as amazing folk rock tune.

Money spent
On arguements
Which way will you go this time?
I'm no hero
Or heavent sent
But god knows I'm so tired

You change each day,
No need to stay
Cus you change each day,
Where's that spirit gone?

Is there more, Is there more to this?
Is there more, Is there more to this?

You take your smokes
As I inhale
But your toxic won't be the thing to send me to hell
Learn from before
I know you well
This won't be the last time we're here

So is there more, Is there more to this?
Is there more, Is there more to this?
Is there more, Is there more to this?
Is there more, Is there more to this?

I won't hold on
There's nothing wrong
With walking away from a pointless fight
Unless you prove
There's something new
This question will replay in my mind

You change each day,
No need to stay
Cus you change each day,
Where's that spirit gone?

Raised my hands,
Given up tonight
Made my plans,
Something new in sight

So is there more, Is there more to this?
Is there more, Is there more to this?
Is there more, Is there more to this?
Is there more, Is there more to this?

Track Six: Guiltiest Man
Released: June 13th, 2014
Length: 3:20
Genre: Folk rock, alternative country, indie folk
Format: Digital Download, CD
Label: Studio60 Records
Writer(s): Hayden Merjos
Producer(s): Hayden Merjos
Additional vocals: Bianca Moretti

Description
'Guiltiest Man' is the sixth track of the album and features instrumental and vocals from indie singer Bianca Moretti. The track could easily be mistaken as a country one or something reminiscent to what you'd hear at a bonfire in the summer time but Hayden also added in elements to emphasis the rock and folk nature of the song. Starting off with a round of 'Ooh's' with Merjos' voice mixed with Moretti's, which get progressively stronger the longer they hold the note. After that, it's the uphill battle of 'Is it rock or is it country?' Hayden's guitar s can be heard through the intro of the song now being joined with that twanginess that country songs are known for. The foot stomping beat is quite different than any track on the album but yet fits perfectly in with the sound. As Hayden sings the first verse, the beat and rhtyhm remain the same with Moretti joining on the last line to sing with him. During the chorus, Moretti's voice is an echo to Hayden's as she sings with him but slightly slower as if not to be so recognized. The two then join together again, their opposite voices colliding for a powerful, 'Oooh' while Hayden continues on to the second verse.

In the chorus, everything but the guitar Hayden plays is heard, as if to quiet down before the thunderous post chorus vocals hop in. Moretti sings the bridge of the song while the guitar dwindles down into silence again, until Hayden's strong voice is heard singing, 'No chance I'll survive this.' They come together again for the climax of the song, Moretti and Merjos' vocals equally balanced with the frantic strumming of his guitar. Things simmer down again and then you're left with the chorus of the song until it fades out.

Italics = Bianca Moretti

Ooooh
Ooooooooh

No chance I'll survive this life
Try my luck turnin' water to wine
Ooh, pardon my own tongue

Eyes filled with the blackened hate
Only time will let me escape
Excuse my devilish ways

Won't break down while walking with shovels
Take too long to bury this pride
Walking 'round mixing with the people
Guiltiest man recognized, ohhhh

Saved enough to leave this place
But held back by all this grace
Ooh, pardon my own tongue
Ooooh, excuse my devilish ways

Won't you save me from myself?
Far too scared to call for help
They don't teach me things to know
They only mold me to be their o-o-o-o-own

Ooooooooh, ohhh

No chance I'll survive this
No chance I'll survive this

Keep rocking and rocking me into the night
Keep rocking and rocking me into the night
Keep rocking and rocking me into the night
Ooooh

Won't break down while walking with shovels
Take too long to bury this pride
Walking 'round mixing with the people
Guiltiest man recognized

Track Seven: She Just Looked Better To Me But You're Alright
Released: June 13th, 2014
Length: 2:41
Genre: Psychedelic rock, R&B, indie rock
Format: Digital Download, CD
Label: Studio60 Records
Writer(s): Hayden Merjos
Producer(s): Hayden Merjos

Description
Next up on the album, one of the critic's favorites from the album, the soulfulness of the record again shines as Hayden's exploration of new sounds and genres further implement his place in the music industry. The song’s subject matter is as blunt as its name implies, stringing a story about rejecting a woman for a more attractive one. The track is also filled with falsetto inducements and a dark rhythm section. Hayden glides through the track, providing guitar licks and electronic drumbeats while sounding as cool and collected as he usually does. It's not a surprise that Hayden's stepped up his lyricism on this album but this is one of the tracks which it's crystal clear. The R&B swagger of the song allows him you to picture him singing with a pompadour and leather jacket while playing guitar on stage, thousands of girls swooning over him, which is what the record is made to do. The shuffling, juggling drumbeat juxtaposed against Hayden’s soulful charm makes for one unforgettable explosion of perfectly synchronized rock styling’s.

Midway through the track, Hayden rides a shimmering slide down the frets of a distorted guitar as the song sheds its hip-hop mask to reveal a reverberating symphony. Falsetto echoes and dizzy guitars twist and slink, while the track fades away. The song has a playful groove which reminds you of a 90's Dr. Dre track. Lyrically, the song refers to rejecting a woman for a much more attractive woman, needless to say he's being apologetic but there's not much he can do since he likes the other woman better.

In the darkness
Everyone looks the same
If it’s not broken
Then why would I complain?
Living in a world where it’s living from light
But it’s not your fault
Don’t blame me for something that I’ve been revealing
Sorry you were lost

Now I don’t like to think myself as shallow of a man
Standing in the corner I can’t help to wonder if they understand
She just looked better to me but you’re alright
Alright, she just looked better to me but you’re alright

Try not to listen
I don’t know as much it seems
But this division
Is not fair to me (Right)
If only you were the girl I dreamed of
So now you’re done with years
Higher and higher won’t forget it
Now you end up in tears

Now I don’t like to think myself as shallow of a man
Standing in the corner I can’t help to wonder if they understand
She just looked better to me but you’re alright (She just looked better to me but you’re alright)
Alright, she just looked better to me but you’re alright

I don’t mean to be rude but I can’t pretend
We can’t discover each other to the end
Do we have to go through this again?
It’s simple, “We can never ever be anything more than just friends.
You’ve got great personality.
She just looked better to me but you’re alright”

She just looked better to me but you’re alright
She just looked better to me but you’re alright
She just looked better to me but you’re alright
She just looked better to me but you’re alright

Track Eight: Take Your Place Ft. Allison cooper
Released: May 20th, 2014
Length: 4:26
Genre: Indie rock, indie pop, indie folk
Format: Digital Download, CD
Label: Studio60 Records
Writer(s): Hayden Merjos, Phil N.
Producer(s): Hayden Merjos, Phil N.

Description
The third single to be released from Hayden's second studio album is 'Take Your Place' which is featured by Allison Cooper. The track is defined as indie rock/indie folk/indie pop. The duet came about while Hayden was recording the song, which was originally supposed to be a solo song, but decided to add a female vocalist to the track. Initially, he thought about asking Jen but thought her vocals would be too strong for such a track. Then, he decided to go with Yasmine but after giving it some more thought, decided on Allison Cooper. The 'Barbie' singer agreed to do the song and thus the track was born. Her sweet and delicate vocals go back and forth with Hayden's calming and almost as equally delicate. The instruments range from guitar to horns and drum patterns. Lyrically, the song focuses on a dark romance between two people as they prepare to meet their deaths. Together, they come to terms with it and the male protagonist is helping the female come to grips with it. This is evident in such lines such as, 'Don't think so negatively about such things.' An eerie mist surrounds it and although the instruments give it an upbeat folksy rhythm, there is a tragic love story behind it. It’s almost like the music is trying to hide pain and grievance, while reflecting the hope that the two lovers will be together even after death

The first verse, Allison sings to Hayden about being weary of the storm clouds in the sky and Hayden assures her that he will build a house strong enough to withstand the storm. Throughout the song, you learn Hayden and Allison's demise are coming closer with each passing line but they do their best to comfort each other. The second verse focuses on Allison being fearful when Hayden is away and he, again, assures her that she worries too much. She states that he's always so 'cool, calm and collected' while she's always worrying and which he replies to as, 'When will you realize right from the start/You've always owned piece of my heart.' You can also hear what appears to be floorboards creaking during the bridge of the song, which represents the house finally giving away. The final rise of the song is the singing of the chorus which insinuates the two of them getting hit by the storm and dying. The track allows you to get lost in the carnival of sounds being played and even though it's borderline gothic romance with a touch of folk, the two singers are able to play their roles very well. When their voices come together, it's a beautifully unique sound of Allison's high and sweet pitched voice with Hayden's husky and more dominant voice, without completely masking her. The catchy lyrics are also a treat, the chorus ensuring that even after death, nothing could possibly stop either one of them from loving the other.

Allison
Hayden
Together

Stay! Stay! Stay!

Washed ashore I can't ignore the storm clouds anymore
I'll build a house that's strong enough for us
I can't sleep and I toss and turn whenever you're away
You worry way too much about small things

It's too late for wood and bricks but just a hug will do
I won't pretend I'm happier this way

You may not like what's next to come
Stand by me lovely one, even though we'll disappear

Stay! Stay! Stay!

You've been gone too long and I start to worry about you, dear
Don't think so negatively about such things
You're so cool, calm and collected while I break apart
When will you realize right from the start
You've always owned piece of my heart

Sometimes I worry my love won't mean a thing
I told you not to think like that my dear

You may not like what's next to come
Stand by me lovely one, even though we'll disappear

Stay!
You know it won't feel the same
Stay!
Even when we start to fade
Stay!
Cus when it's gone, gone, gone away
You just can't replace, and nothing will take your place

Stay!
Stay!

The time has come say your goodbyes
Remember me this way
There'll never be another like you.
Don't waste one tear on what we knew
Would happen eventually
There's nothing more that we can do
Just close your eyes and count to ten
It'll be over soon
And then your heart can mend

Stay!
You know it won't feel the same
Stay!
Even when we start to fade
Stay!
Cus when it's gone, gone, gone away
You just can't replace, and nothing will take your place

You know it won't feel the same
Stay!
Even when we start to fade
Stay!

Cus when it's gone, gone, gone away
You just can't replace, and nothing will take your place

Cus when it's gone, gone, gone away
You just can't replace, and nothing will take your place

Cus when it's gone, gone, gone away
You just can't replace, and nothing will take your place

Track Nine: Consolation Prize
Released: June 13th, 2014
Length: 4:35
Genre: Alternative Rock
Format: Digital Download, CD
Label: Studio60 Records
Writer(s): Hayden Merjos, Phil N.
Producer(s): Hayden Merjos, Phil N.

Description
'Consolation Prize' is a song by Hayden Merjos, written Hayden and Phil N. and produced by Hayden and Phil N. The track is the ninth on his album, 'Sh*t Happens.' The song is an Alternative Rock song which can also appeal to an Pop/Rock audience as well. The songs lyrics play on the metaphor of a consolation prize, Hayden referring to his heart as one being treated by a girl that way. Although there are no major parts in the track, the subtly and calmness in his voice is often praised by critics, and his vocal range as well. "Instead of taking the likely route of sounding angry and overbearing, Hayden takes to his calm and cool demeanor with a little bit of sadness and desperation, giving the track a very distinct feel which reminds you it's a Hayden song," one critic states. The track is driven by a hypnotizing delight which draws in the listener. Hayden plays the standard instruments, leading with guitar and giving a reoccurring bass line which initially drives the record, until introduced to other instruments.

Starting off the track is guitar that's blasting off with an opposite waning effect as it gets louder. There also seems to be a lab steel guitar involved in the mixture to give it the effect of sounding dramatic and fuzzy. The first verse starts off as almost a sort of a reflective state, in which Hayden talks how he doesn't have much to offer in her eyes but he's alright with that. What is significant about this track is the multiple breaks in between verses. Instead of the usual break up song, there's more relief than grief. Once again, Hayden's vocals take center stage with his ability to switch effortlessly in range. His high falsetto voice comes into play and then slowly drives back down to his normal tone. Towards the end of the song, we hear Hayden talk of wedding bells and realizing that his mistake was also treating his heart like a consolation prize, thinking it was a game in which he had to win. His light and airy vocals end the track along with the waning guitar.

The heart's consolation prize
I came in last place to someone else's lies
His deal was better
Promised jewels and riches
But I'm not a man that's broken
There's nothing to try and fix

Father told me life's not a race
Even when it seems I'm out and on my face
Pretend as if I never stumbled
Just, for old times I'll pretend I didn't give a damn at all

Heart beats, my heart beats
Yeah it beats for the love, baby, that I never won
I really thought there was no contest when it came to other guys
But I guess you'll only buy, my heart's consolation prize

Ohhh
No, no, no, no

Ooooh, oooh
Ahhh

Do you think, you can just love recklessly,
Do you think love just falls from the sky,
Were you forced to do something that's not like you
That would change me and turn me into stone
Turned me into stone, ooh, turned to stone

Well, the biggest mistake was all mine
I had wedding bells planned for the futures time
Then I followed your game and treated it like a game
So I'll just say well, played.....well played

Track Ten: How To Get On By
Released: November 21st, 2013
Length: 4:53
Genre: Pop/Rock, Soul, Breakbeat
Format: Digital Download, CD
Label: Studio60 Records
Writer(s): Hayden Merjos, Phil N.
Producer(s): Hayden Merjos, Phil N.

====

Background
"How To Get On By" is the second single from American Folk-Rock-Soul singer, Hayden. The song will be released on November 21st, 2013 in the United States and November 24th, 2013 worldwide. It is the second single to follow after his collaborative single with Pop/Rock singer Jennifer Armstrong, "Piece Of Mind". Both will be included on Hayden's new album which is set to be released sometime next year. The song was written by Hayden Merjos and Phil N, and produced by the two as well. The single combines Hayden's signature style, his more rock and alternative influence with his other ventured favorite genre, Soul. The lyrics suggest that Hayden is singing about 'a parting of ways from someone and moving on from it.'

Aside from his controversial words on social media, Hayden also has a talent for sparking up good tunes to listen to. "How To Get On By" serves as a sort of outlet and encouragement for males, something not usually heard or seen. Aside from the Soul influence, the song is purely Rock and aggressive in it's tone because of it. Hayden, however, manages to make a catchy and addictive set of lyrics and beat to accompany it in order to create a very powerful song with a wonderful message, for those who understand.

Song Description & Songwriter's Comments
"How To Get On By" is a Pop/Rock and Soul track which draws the influence from the likes of Motown artists or more modern today, John Newman, an English soul singer from England, definitely can pull the similarities in the force and sound. Hayden starts off the song with his crisp and clean vocals that would soon turn into one of Hayden's greatest vocal performances to date. Merjos uses this to his advantage, creating an unbelievable atmosphere in terms of balancing the music and vocals together for an epic track. In contrast to his last single, Piece Of Mind, this is an uptempo song. The start of the song is introduced with a thunderous drum heard in the background as starts to sing. His voice is tender yet filled with an uprising of anxiousness in the song. Merjos's unique voice makes for a very interesting combination with soul music. He quickly shifts from the gentle voice to a more adamant one. The lines in the lyrics seem to bounce off of one another, his inimitable tones over defiant piano thuds. The first lines of the song are simply about a relationship ending and the lack of sympathy for men when this happens. 'Where is the sympathy for man, when he's down?/I guess we're just too tough and only get aroused' The roar of the drums are heard again as he goes into the break down in between the verse and chorus, his voice sounding a bit more sinister and unforgiving as he's really trying to convey his hatred of this person. With this in tow, Hayden's guitar can be heard as it gives the riff for which the rest of the instruments soon follow and join after. It's a a hip-swinging chorus of throwback soul. Hayden's vocals are just as aggressive as the full band playing with the horns accenting the soulfulness. His melodic singing of the chorus, a repetitive chant, 'I don't have to try, I've learned after time/How to get on by'

As he seems to gather himself from the outburst, Hayden sings the next verse with even more fire under him now. It's like he has a purpose for the song, a purpose that he discovered while singing the first half of the song. He expresses his true feelings, wanting the other person to get hurt but says he has no control over that. He also almost mockingly tells them they can't wear his shoes if they can't walk a mile. The break in between the lyrics and chorus, really sheds light on the situation as he sings, 'You threw the gasoline and caused the flames/I'm just waiting for you/When all my hatred pours it rains/And I'm not praying for you' clearly wanting to rid himself of this person. The only time the beat really takes a dramatic change is when the Bridge arrives. Hayden belts out his lyrics, a sense of anger being heard in his voice with the layered vocals in the background also singing with him. Once again, the thudding of the piano keys are heard once he is singing the chorus again, stopping for a brief instrumental in the song where Hayden's instrumental skills are able to speak. For a few minutes, Hayden takes the listener into his personal heaven with his music and then bombards the listener again with his vocals, to finish out the song with another round of his chorus. As he comes back in, the piano is accompanied by hand claps to draw listeners back in to the beat.

"How To Get On By is definitely high energy, in your face music that takes you back and gives you a change from the 'trend's' in music today with the House and Dance beats, it's not made for that. I hope no one remixes this song and leaves it the way it is actually because it's perfect. There's almost all of my influences in one song right there. The reason I wanted this to be the next single is because as soon as I recorded it, I knew that this would be something different that what I've done before. All my songs have a purpose but this one is personally what I'm all about. I know how to move on from a person pretty quickly and I always have been able to do that, when wronged. Same with situations in life. Whenever I get in an argument or something, I'm pretty much good after the next few seconds when it's done. It's my own how-to song on how to move on and get on to bigger and better things. Musically, there's a lot going on but it's not annoying or overshadowing the lyrics. It's an unique sound and I know my fans will love it. The horns, the breackbeat in the background, it's just something you feel like you've needed to hear but no one would listen and went with what they thought would sell. I just keep imagining when I play this live, how insane the crowd will be."

====

[Verse 1]
You left me in the dust of all your empty thoughts
You'll be another lover that I'll come across
Where is the sympathy for man, when he's down?
I guess we're just too tough and only get aroused

You threw the gasoline and caused the flames
I'm just waiting for you
When all my hatred pours it rains
And I'm not praying for you

[Chorus]
I don't have to try, I've learned after time
How to get on by
I don't have to try, I've learned after time
How to get on by
I don't have to try, I've learned after time
How to get on by
I don't have to try, I've learned after time
How to get on by

How to get on by

[Verse 2]
There's something about you that burns through my soul
I want you to get hurt but I've got no control
I guess inseparable is only for a while
You can walk in my shoes if you can't take a mile

You threw the gasoline and caused the flames
I'm just waiting for you
When all my hatred pours it rains
And I'm not praying for you

[Chorus]
I don't have to try, I've learned after time
How to get on by
I don't have to try, I've learned after time
How to get on by

How to get on by

[Bridge]
I've warned you once before
You don't listen, you never listened at all
I've warned you once before
You don't listen, you never listened at all

Yeah
Woo!

[Chorus]
I don't have to try, I've learned after time
How to get on by
I don't have to try, I've learned after time
How to get on by
I don't have to try, I've learned after time
How to get on by (O-o-ohh)
I don't have to try, I've learned after time
How to get on by

How to get on by

"My God! We truly are a talented bunch. The fact that we write entire albums all on our own while the biggest stars in the world have 45 co-writers on ONE track?? Where the hell are OUR record deals and GRAMMYS?" -BrownSugar
