Another tour, another bust up, another "split"...but apparently this time it looks like it could well be permanent. Both Noel and Liam Gallagher have walked out on the band before, but now I guess that its getting a bit long in the tooth for both of them. Liam wants to do an album a year or an album every two years and have everyone in the band focussed solely on Oasis. Noel wants to have three or four year gaps between each one, the freedom to do a solo record and to spend more time with his family. This has been the big division between the two of them for most of the last decade, so if they were going to break up over anything then I expect this is what they'd call it a day over.

If this is a permanent split, then in a way its kind of OK because they have been past their best for a long time now (a few occasional flashes of brilliance aside on every album since 1995)...but then again, they have made a lot of people very happy, so its a shame to see them go, especially as they were just starting to put the ghost of Be Here Now to bed and move forward musically in some respects. They have endured and survived Britpop, and are the only big British band from that era other than the decidedly un-Britpiop Oasis to get through it and remain fairly popular.

I suspect that they might well be entering the phase in their career that the Rolling Stones went into in the eighties-after nearly 20 years together, the band will take a couple of years off, Noel and Liam make up, release a new album in three years or so, fall out/take a few years off, and the band will fall into a less regular cycle of record releases (with every single one being the "comeback" record the way that everything after Steel Wheels has been for the Stones accompanied by tours of massive stadia and arenas more or less only playing the hits). They have kind of been doing this already since 2005, but I'd say its more likely now.

If you don't like them, don't listen to them? Why would it matter to you when/why they split up. There's no point saying stuff like that without actually putting a point across. When you say oh about time, your just being a bellend because they've been a huge influence over the years to loads of people, and British culture as a whole. Whether you like them or not you have to admit they were pioneers of a musical era, along with Blur. Now I hate Blur, but I still admit it would be a shame if they decided to call it a day properly.

You can look at whatever musical 'age' and there will be people you do like and people you don't like but their will always be pioneers within that age and you can't deny that they are what they are just because you dislike the music they make.

Anyway, I've probebly just gone off on a rant which had nothing to do with what you all meant, and I'm probebly in the denial stage of getting over such an emotional trauma to me :(

EDIT: I'm not the meany Not talking

No, it's not. It's because they've done fuck all interesting from What's The Story. Never mind being bland.

And who cares, the 90s sucked musicwise anyway. The only good things to come out of the 90s are gabber and eurodance (you know you love it, hargh hargh hargh!).

Well, it's the same thing, it's just that when Oasis are concerned it's worth mentioning twice, such are my feelings toward them.

i think i already expressed my love for this band in another thread somewhere, so i won't bother.

anyway, i find myself strangely not that saddened by the split. oasis were just so... adequate during this decade. nothing on the last four albums excited me as much as anything on (the underrated) be here now or anything earlier for that matter. still one of my favourite bands ever, the 90's output is untouchable.

i must say, however, that it's sad how noel and liam can't speak to each other like fucking grown-ups, and that they ultimately resort to this -- cancelling gigs for thousands of fans and getting into fights instead of solving whatever differences they may have. judging from these recent online comments by them both, it seems that they really, really hate each others guts. really sad since family is sort of the most important thing in life. with that said, none of us really know the whole picture anyway so what the hell am i rambling about...

still hoping for a noel gallagher solo album, though.
or maybe not

Their 2000's output has been patchy and they've not always done the right thing by their fans and themselves, but you have to hand it to them for being survivors and surviving Britpop...surviving by appealling to the lowest common musical denominator for a lot of the time and not being the same band as when they started in line-up terms, but its still surviving....

It's a shame they didn't have enough stability to get through a couple more albums, over the last two there have been signs that they might be starting to spread their creative wings a bit late in their career...then again, if they were a more stable and less temperamental band, maybe the special ingredient that makes the music what it is would be missing and the band would just be another big careerist rock band in the Queen/ U2/Stones vein...

I heard Live Forever today and realised just why I hate Oasis so much. Liam Gallacher's voice is hideously annoying. I mean the music was bareable enough but his voice is just fucking obnoxious.
