Before Mariko is ready to perform, Bryan Kobayashi walks up on stage to give a small speech. "Uh, Hi! Welcome back to Cosmosfest! How was last night for you guys?" The crowd cheers "Yeah, everyone was really fucking rad. I especially enjoyed Sabina, she ruled. Today, we have Mariko, Edward Barat, My Own Violence, Some Kind of Planet and Chloe! Give it up for them!" The crowd cheers "I'm so glad everything is going well so far, we've made a lot of money on the merch so far, it's going really fucking fast. We've got surplus from last night if anyone's interested. Without further adieu, please welcome to the stage: Mariko!

Set list
1. No stars.
2.transplant
3. I kill everything I fuck (gg Allin cover)

Mariko comes out to minor applause that turns to hushed disappointment. Mariko isn't dressed in her usual schoolgirl outfit,or carrying her sword. She happily bounces out to the center stage and grabs her microphone. "Konnichiwa, cosmosfest! " she giggles happily. The audience pipes up with a loud greeting. Mariko nods to her band and they start the show. The cheers get louder when the atonal piano of "no stars" is heard over the venue. The song is mariko's best known, yet is rarely performed live. Mariko places the mic back on the stand before starting to sing. She keeps her arms at her sides, only rarely using them to gesture. The abrasive and noisy song gets a small, but intense pit going. People will mosh to anything.

no stars
No stars
No stars
No stars in the sky tonight.
Lets hold hands until the cold wind bites.
No stars
No stars No stars in the dark dark skies.
Their light snubbed out,everything dies.
No stars
No stars
No stars to be seen.
Our deaths will be a slow slow freeze. No stars
No stars
No stars twinkling any more.
It's a deep sleep,I will not snore.

The last burst of white noise is drawn out until it becomes ear piercing feedback. After this Mariko bows and soaks in the applause. She does love to be th center of attention...on stage. Off stage she is mostly timid and enjoys being ignored.
" this one is a bit more modern.i believe it was the last song I released." She says awkwardly into the mic. Now she holds the mic, ready to kick the show into higher gear.

transplant
The wind whistles as it blows through my empty chest.
I have no warmness. You can hope for my lust at best.
Forever trying to fill what cannot be topped off. I'm going to need a transplant, give me what is
Yours.
I need a transplant,I can't stand this hole any more.
I was born without a heart and I didnt find one under the floor.
Bump bump
Bump...bump.. ....bump. When we first met, i knew i needed that heart of yours.
Give it to me, its full of what I crave. Love freely pours.
I want to make you empty like me. I'm going to need a transplant, give me what is
Yours.
I need a transplant,I can't stand this hole any more.
I was born without a heart and I didnt find one under the floor.
Bump bump
Bump...bump.. ....bump. A heart donor has to perish in order to give.
Unwittingly you die so that I may live.
I seriously doubt it was worth it. A shell of a being, but I function just fine.
I want to make your happiness mine.
In return I'll give you nothing.
But at least it's a lot of nothing. I'm going to need a transplant, give me what is
Yours.
I need a transplant,I can't stand this hole any more.
I was born without a heart and I didnt find one under the floor.
Bump bump
Bump...bump..

With the clue of what song is coming up,the crowd starts churning in anticipation. the confirmation being the overly fuzzed bass and random medical show samples. This is a fast, rather industrial inspired song. Mariko spends most of the song on her knees, singing into the microphone that is far above her. For the each of "bump" parts, she leaps to her feet and pounds the mic stand into the stage. This adds more chaotic noise to an already noisy song. As luck would have it, on the final "bump" of the song, the mic stand snaps. A loud pop is heard and all power is lost to the stage. Mariko stands looking totally lost for a few seconds before holding up her hands in a "hold on" gesture. She runs off the stage and shortly after the power is restored to the stage. When Mariko finally does return,a loud cheer goes up. She is holding her famous sword mic and is dressed in her schoolgirl outfit.

UserPostedImage

Mariko giggles and swings the sword a couple of times. " yeah,I knew I said I was going to stop doing this....but I only have a few more years until it looks even more ridiculous . This next one is not one of mine. But it is one of my favorites. So sing if you know the words!....and if you do not want to get wet, please move waaaay back."

I Kill Everything I Fuck (gg Allin cover)

I'm infected with AIDS
I fuck every day
I kill everything I fuck

I'm infected with AIDS
I fuck every day
I kill everything I fuck

I fill you up with my disease
Contaminate you with deadly needs
My loaded cock is like a gun
I'm a walking time bomb killing everyone

DIE! I'm infected with AIDS
I fuck everyday
I kill everything I fuck

I'm infected with AIDS
I fuck everyday
I kill everything I fuck

Let me be your stiff hard fuck
Cram your cunt with poisonous cock
Your hairy cunt will be my aim
Deadly penetration is my game

DIE! I'm infected with AIDS
I fuck everyday

Drenched in my fluids you'll never know
I plant the seed of death untold
Before I die, I hope I do
Kill many more, as I've killed you

DIE! I'm infected with AIDS
I fuck everyday
I'm infected with AIDS
I fuck everyday
I'm infected with AIDS
I fuck everyday
I'm infected with AIDS

As soon as the music starts, stage blood starts spurting in 20 ft streams from the sides of the stage. The until now, fairly sedate Mariko sings/screams as she runs around the stage. Occasionally she will perform a backflip off an amp without missing a beat of the song. She closes the song by having gallons of stage blood rain down on her, completely soaking her. She jumps up and down, clapping happily . "Thank you and good night!" She bows, fairly certain the clean up from her show will throw the schedule far off and she probably won't be invited back.

My Own Violence Cosmosfest 6/8/2014 setlist:

UserPostedImage

The intro to a new song called "Inconvenient Memories" begins playing after an adequate soundcheck by roadies for the fest. A bright blue light begins emanating from the front of his gear table. A fog machine covers the stage in fog and the in the fog the audience can see Jeremy Salazar's outline and he begins playing a medley of his songs. "Make some noise, Cosmosfest! Let's get loud!"

The song fades out and the lights go dim and he transitions into his second song titled "If Only I Knew What I Knew Now, I'd Be Worse of a Man."

The song slowly fades out "Time for some vocal action!" He grabs his microphone and goes into the next song

"Let's dance!"

The crowd erupts in dancing as well as Jeremy.
Waving goodbye to my hometown
Waving goodbye to you
Everything I once knew
It won't be where I'm heading

Falling asleep
With your hands on the wheel
Rolling off the road
My eyes roll back

Breaths of life return
My heart starts beating
I am still alive
Or so I think

The crowd cheers for him. "Yeah, thank you guys! This next song is a new single, I sing it. I hope you enjoy it."

The crowd starts clapping along to the kick drum of the song and Jeremy starts jumping around. He starts singing and the crowd erupts into a mosh pit.
Watashi wa, ongaku ni rizumu o-chū keiren shitai
I just want to have fun and go to the beach
All day every day
(Watashi wa, ongaku ni rizumu o-chū keiren shitai)
(Watashi wa tanoshimi o aisuru tanoshisa o nikumu)
Play my life until the needle wears on the groove
(Watashi wa, ongaku ni rizumu o-chū keiren shitai)
My body convulses to the rhythm
To the ryhthm
(Watashi wa, ongaku ni rizumu o-chū keiren shitai)

"Haha, moshing at EDM? No fuckin' way! This fest gets better and better. I have one more song for you all. It's called "It Only Gets Worse from Here!"

It only gets worse from here
Cold Hands wrap around me with tense fear

It only gets worse from here
Nobody believes them but you

It spins asymmetrical shapes around my half dead state of mind...

"I really love this song, thank you! I'm done! I'm touring with Some Kind of Planet! Come out and see me!"

The crowd starts chanting "One more song! One more song! One more song!" Jeremy Salazar then reappears on the stage.
"Fuck you, guys! I could be listening to Coolio play Seattle right now!" The main piano riff for his next song starts looping.

"This is pretty much the whole song, so I'm going to talk about myself. I'm releasing an album, due September 8th! It's called "Colors! It's going to feature pretty much everything you've heard in my set including other tracks that I haven't played in front of a crowd; ever." The song ends and he takes a bow and walks off stage.

[b]Setlist:
Aneurysm
If Only I Knew What I Knew Now, I'd Be Worse of a Man
Highway Wreck
Anata dake no ofu anata no ashi o kirikizu no yō ni odoru
It Only Gets Worse from Here

I be up all night doing this right here
And I’m kinda starting to like this right here

These niggas must have forgotten me
But I'm the monster that people aren't topping see
They must be scared you can see them coughing
You can see it in their eyes they see those coffins
These niggas must have forgotten me
But I'm the monster that people aren't topping see
They must be scared you can see them coughing
You can see it in their eyes they see those coffins

Background loading up quick I’m on 4G
Talk about meaning excellent then show me
You don't even know where to begin but I know how to finish it
Your career is just starting don't let me diminish it
In this game I'm Virgin Mary cause I'm too tight
Got goons on the shit you really want to fight?
Get Rich music quick tell me who wants a reminder
Put you and your whole crew in the meat grinder
Say hello to my little friend, the ink pen
Murder with single stroke can you spell win
Of Course B-I-G, S-T-A-C with a K and S at the end
I'm on the charts now I'm the leading trend
Oh I'm sorry mister softie is this too hardcore?
You trying to look like the bigger trying to ignore
Like I'm bore, please I will put an end to you dream
Make you fall lower than your girlfriend's self esteem

Sounds like: Jay-Z Reminder

2)Kill 'em

Kill em

The streets knows me,
I’m the best!

People tend to forget you if you not saying shit
These rappers better not come before I start spraying shit
I’m already signed so who is really making it?
Rap game bended over just taking it,
Til I get on my grind just slaying shit
Oh, the fuck did you think, that nothing would happen or that I would shrink
You niggas dun fucked up that it starting to stink
If you niggas are animals I getting a mink
Never let kids go to work you think that shit hot
“Where do I begin?” at the end with a shot
Take home your bitch and hit that g-spot
You thinking she coming home, my guess is she’s not
She way too attracted and that is why you do what you do
You loving these hoes so I send them to you
Heard you and Suzie caught something too
I got some bitches that could use some big D
I’m shaft 2.0 if you haven’t heard about me
You didn’t think that new rappers would show some respect
I been here 10 you think that something to reject
I’m big as Sonaye ass without anything to inject
I’m a killer and went to jail, that’s not something to go back to
But I’ll murder every new rapper in end careers if I have to
Thank means Kidd, Liyah, Drew, and some girl name Lang
I’m take my belt off and do Pootie tang
Nowadays everybody wanna talk like they got something to say
But nothing comes out when they move they lips
Cause they aint saying shit, they will get tight lipped if I go out and unload a clip
All you see RIP in black and white far as the eye can see
None of these niggas know just who I be
I’m the king of the streets, so real hip hop is me
They like Oooh Kill em, Oooh Kill em
Oooh Kill em, Oooh Kill em
Biggie is stacking that money and grabbing your honey
Why people mad and looking all funny
The look is same color as money and that not very chummy
The reason I don’t really do well in the charts
Is because kiss ass is a very strong start
And helps if you have pussy cause the people get lonely
Seem like I not the one that is the real phony
Got these girls calling my name like it was Tony
The fuck wrong with them Trico,
They better back up before I have to get Chico
And start burning tracks
Cause niggas now a days don’t know how act
They going bitch so have break their back saying
Oooh Kill em, Oooh Kill em
Oooh Kill em, Oooh Kill em
Ohh! Shit yall woke up a fucking monster now.

Sound like: Meek mill Kill em

Live @ CosmosFest

The previous set had finished, the stage had been cleared and the sound-check was done. The setup for this set was simple, a DJ booth, a bass stand, drumkit toward the back and microphone stand.

After a few moments had passed the backing band entered the stage, bassist, drummer and the DJ. They began their own sound-check, and soon afterwards they begin, the DJ playing the beat of SpitSet’s Battle. The bassist taking over for the bass drops of the song and the drummer taking his own spots.

Before long as the crowd’s cheers rev up his trademark afro can be spotted in the darkness, a heavy coat over his form as he enters the stage, already rapping:

Battle

I rap like a bad acid trip
Like you’re popping molly offa acid rips
Can’t touch me like I’m laced dip
Got the rap game on my fingertips
But let me settle back a bit
To help you trip immaculate
...yeah...
Tweets ethered over the net, visceral
Now I rap backwards over beats, ethereal
And the critics can’t get near me
Backpack filled and I’m quoting Alighieri
Fuck wakin’ up, I been weary
Never shit-talk, I speak clearly
A few short of no. 1, barely
Spit a fresh sixteen, daily
Spit the holy gospel, fuck a hymn
I separate the dudes from the men
Forward on the beats™
I’ll find time for our beef, PM.
Rap messiah, I’m as close are you’ll get
Quick six in the studio, Russian Roulette
Me and the crew are the safe bet
2014, get ready for SpitSet

As quick as its started, the beat’s tempo changes as does the performance of each member. “What’s up Cosmos!” Lovelock shouts out. “It has been a long time coming since my last live thing. I saw Hayden last night, gotta give it up to him for his shit, it was crucial. I saw Evangeline Wolfe, I gotta give it up to her. Hell, give it up for everybody, give it up for Big Stacks!” He shouts as he points the mic to the crowd, the beat for The Dissertation beginning.

The Disseratation

Isaac climbs atop one of the base’s amps, before he takes a seat on it as he starts.

This album isn’t hype, it’s a confession
To my love for the rap game and its lessons
Recorded with icons and I’ve loved and lost
Heart paid in full, that’s that silent cost
But I know this ain’t the finish line
And I know there ain’t no coming back this time
Because after this one I’m not leaving
And if I stop releasing, then I’m not breathing
And I send peace up to my mentors
Who showed me how to open all these doors
And walk that straight-path to Shangri-La
To them old ghettos, ma you better say goodbye
Cuz you ain’t ever goin back
And I’m going on the attack
Against those naysayers
So best to say those prayers
And I’m gonna pay it forward and keep this torch lit
And show the Charm City kids that I really did it

I did it*, I did it*, I did it*
….
I did it*, I did it*, I did it*
And when I light up that Chart Heat
They’ll know I did it.

Wave that white flag, white flag
Catch me on that cover of Blurb Mag
Shouting out Gamble & Sons
Rapping nostyle just for straight fun
Shout out Lovelock when my set’s straight done
Take all your cheers and just straight run**
(Damn)
Y’all didn’t know I was the strongest under the sun**
(Damn)
Take your land and run it, Atilla the Hun**
Barred up like Jessup
This my lyrical check-up
And I’ll go as far as Curiosity
To that side of the moon that I can’t see
Ride with my Satchel Paige jersey on Sunday
Crowd hanging on to every word that I say
I’ve never shown, how much I’ve truly known
Lovelock doing shit with the things he owns
Sho’nuff and tear down Harlem
Last shogun to truly startle ‘em

I did it*, I did it*, I did it*
….
I did it*, I did it*, I did it*
And when I light up that Chart Heat
They’ll know I did it.

Da da da, rap, rap
Da da da, rap rap
Da da da, rap rap

Applause and cheering closes out the song as Isaac moves back towards the bassist, telling him a few things. “So, just two more songs. All of ‘em new. You ready for ‘em?”

The DJ starts raising his hands up as he incites the crowd to start chanting, “Lil’ Ghost!” And before long it starts to cycle.

Lil' Ghost

Isaac once again climbs to the top of an amp, but this time he’s more animated, and he sways more as he raps.

Young Charles Bronson with a Death-Wish
True winner like Bird, only swish
Rapped real tough to DOOM beats in Middle School
T-Pain MP3s on my IPOD back when he was cool
Crumpled up verses in my Power Rangers backpack
And most of my school clothes came off that Goodwill rack
But it’s 2013 now, and that phase is over
Now I drive off that lot in that brand new Landrover
And I’m in that first-class, reclining as I rise up
Man fuck stopping, it’s never enough
Because death is where I stop
And if I have a choice I’ll go out on top
As the gray-haired king on a golden throne
Leaving the world with all I ever owned

Lil’ Ghost*
Lil’ Ghost*
Lil’ Ghost*
Lil’ Ghost*

I’m an older Fonzie after those Happy Days
Sometimes thinking back to the rap game’s older ways
05 to 2010 I recorded in my basement
Now my shit’s on RapGenius deciphering what my bass meant
I took a year’s sabbatical
But trust me, my new shit is straight radical
And I can hardly wait
Cuz this is shit you can’t anticipate
Made to elevate
To represent my state
As the man to aim for
White and red target on my back

Right before the DJ begins to play the next part, Isaac’s sways get the best of him and he takes a tumble, right off the edge of the amp to a crescendo of screams. A sick crunch follows the descent and his own yells follow, the live members exit from their instruments in an attempt to help him.

The set is cut short by the unfortunate incident and before long, Isaac is carted off by paramedics, and the next band is preparing for their set.

Noel Houston live at Cosmosfest!

Noel walks up on stage with his guitar, he plugs it into his amp and tunes. He plays a G major chord to make sure he's in tune. He smiles as he's ready. The crowd cheers for him. "Wow, good crowd today. My name is Noel Houston, I'm the frontman for Some Kind of Planet. We played last night, I hope you were all there. It's really really fucking freaky what happened to Isaac, I hope you're alright, dude! I'm covering for him. I've never played a solo set before, so this is totally new. My first song is called The World is Too Beautiful.

He puts a capo on the third fret of his guitar. And starts playing a slow minor chord progression

I stand in the shallow end of the pool
I feel afraid
Like I'm about to die
Even if I tried
I couldn't die
The world is too beautiful

I slash my own throat but no blood comes out and I can still breathe
I feel my eyes roll back but I can still see
I should ask myself what's wrong with me
But I know damn well

My ego is bigger than the empty holes in my life
Winter passes
I'm still afraid
But I no longer feel dead
I hate the world
But it doesn't hate me

The crowd cheers "Thank you, Thank you! That one is going on my new album, it's actually the first track. Mind if I play some stuff from Return to Venus?" The crowd roars in approval. "Good, I though you'd say no. One two three four!" He goes into the lead guitar riff and he dances around the stage. "Clap your hands if you like this song! Like this!" He claps quarter notes in cadence to the song. "Woooo!" The crowd starts a slow mosh pit to the song.

Last night I dreamt I died with my rationality out of place and my teeth missing.
I woke up alive but I lost myself in the blankets
Called my best friend
He told me to leave him alone

Every time I dream I die, I wake up in strange places
Or reprimanded by unfamiliar faces
I guess it's time for me to grow up.

Every time I dream I die, I wake up in strange places
Or reprimanded by unfamiliar faces.
I guess they're familiar, I took them to hell and back
Except hell is my house.

Nothing makes sense
Nothing makes sense
I'll just blame it on my childish nature
Nothing makes sense
Nothing makes sense

What the fuck am I doing with my life
Sitting in bed or pretending I'm an astronaut
It's more productive than I once though

Every time I die, I wake up in strange places
Or reprimanded by unfamiliar faces
I guess it's time for me to grow the fuck up.

The small pit dies down. "Haha, thanks, I had no idea anyone liked moshing to singer-songwriter shit. I've moshed to dubstep before, so I've seen weirder. That song is on my band's new EP Return to Venus, you can go buy that shit at the merch booth. This is the title track. You could mosh to it if you want." He goes into the intro riff and the crowd starts moshing, he starts jumping up and down.

Don't say yes
Don't say no
Let your actions speak louder than your words
Cut off your limbs
Jump off your roof
Or maybe just return to Venus

Let your feet burn off
It's not really that hot if you put ice on it
Let's kill some time
Let's kill ourselves

Ahhhhhhh
I crash landed straight into your heart
I find that hard to believe
I think it was just Venus
Maybe it's because you're so hot.

We were born to kill, whole races of alien species
All while holding hands
It seemed perfect
Until we landed on Venus

The heat killed me on contact
You rushed me back into the ship and got the fuck out of there
Just when it seemed like I was dead for good, we returned to Venus

Falling asleep with cruise control on
We all though it was an auto pilot
Then we crashed!

Ahhhhhhh
I crash landed straight into your heart
I find that hard to believe
I think it was just venus
Maybe it's because your so hot.

"Hey, thanks guys, this is truly awesome. I'm so glad to be here, I'm gonna tell a story now, okay." Somebody in the crowd yells
"Fuck yes, storytime!"
"Haha, then you'll love this. So I was cleaning out my house a few days ago, and in my closet I found a tab book I used as a freshmen in highschool. I liked this song the best. It's called Black and Blue"
He goes into an atmospheric chord progression

Lie to me
Then throw my hopes into the trash
You were so kind to me
Baby

Everything I remember was black and blue
Probably the bruises you gave me
They hurt so bad
But I loved you for it

Someone told me
You were the wrong girl for me
And my nose was still bleeding
I saw your reflection
In the puddle of blood dripping from my nose
You looked so sad
But you laughed

Everything I remember was black and blue
Probably the bruises you gave me
They hurt so bad
But I loved you for it

Noel laughs "This song is so fucking hilarious, I'm putting it onto my album." He pulls out a packet of cigarettes from his pocket. "Anyone want these? I'm trying to quit." He tosses them into the audience. "Keep the packet, I'll sign it for you after the show. So how's everyone enjoying Cosmosfest so far?" He pauses so the crowd can cheer loudly "I'm digging it so far, this fest is awesome, Big Stacks was super. Are you guys ready for Evangeline Wolfe?" The crowd cheers loudly "How about Aqua Manhattan up next?" The crowd cheers again. "Me too, let's get this over with." He goes into another fast punk chord progression

Hey Hey Hey!
Hey Hey Hey!
Whatcha gonna say to that?
You said yes but I said no
And that was the end of it

Hey Hey Hey!
Hey Hey Hey!
Whatcha gonna say to that?
You said yes but I said no
And that was the end of it

He takes a long breath "Ahh, that was fun, this next one is pretty sweet. It's actually a cover. He goes into a fast chord progression.

I'm sorry Ms. Jackson
I am for real
Never meant to make your daughter cry
I apologize a trillion times
I'm sorry Ms. Jackson
I am for real
Never meant to make your daughter cry
I apologize a trillion times

The crowd laughs chanting "Outkast! Outkast!"
"Nah, that was a joke. The real cover is a song DEVO covered, so it's kind of like coverception. Sing along if you know it." He starts playing it and he starts dancing on stage.

I can't get no satisfaction
I can't get me no satisfaction
And I try and I try and I try t-t-t-t-try try
I can't no, I can't get me no

When I'm riding in my car
And a man comes on the radio
He's tellin' me more and more
About some useless information
Supposed to fire my imagination

I can't get no
No-no, no
Hey, hey, hey
That's what I say

I can't get no satisfaction
I can't get me no girl reaction
And I try and I try and I try t-t-t-t-try try
I can't no, I can't get me no

When I'm watchin' my TV
And a man comes on to tell me
How white my shirts could me
But he can't be a man 'cause he does not smoke
The same cigarettes as me

I can't get no
No-no, no
Hey, hey, hey
That's what I say

And when I'm flying 'round the world
And I'm doin' this and I'm tryin' do that
And I'm trying to make some girl
Who tells me babybabybabybabybabybabybabybabybabybaby....
Better come back later next week
Can't you see I'm on a losing streak

I can't get no
No-no, no
Hey, hey, hey
That's what I say

I can't get no (satisfaction)
I can't get me no (satisfaction)

He grins "Okay, this is my last song. It's called No" He goes into a slow chord progression

Everyone lies to me
Never listening
Makes me wanna
Cry-y-y-y
Hey

The song picks up into a fast chord progression and he starts dancing and headbanging

I wore my favorite vest
Some jackass spilled his wine on me
Some people think it's a gunshot wound
I like to stick with that
But they said no
They don't believe me

Well, oh, neither do I

The song goes into a fast guitar solo and Noel stage dives as he plays the solo. He extends the solo to three extra minutes and walks back on stage. "Hey, so I'm done here, but don't worry, Some Kind of Planet is playing a show in Seattle next week, it's our kickoff show. So come, dammit! I had a lot of fun doing this, I'm going to do this next year, I'm off to the next planet. I'm still freaking out, Isaac looked like he took a nasty spill, I really hope you're all right, man. Goodnight, guys, next up, Aqua Manhattan!" He waves and walks off stage.

The band rarely spoke to the Cosmosfest crowd, only to cuss indiscriminately at them, heckle them for a mosh pit (which did happen), and to talk about how 50's Rape Victim is highly homicidal. The band put on a unique show using their typical harsh noise/punk fusion set which also evolved lots of spoken word. 50's Rape Victim also set his guitar on fire Jimi Hendrix style for a sacrifice, being called Cosmosfest, they were lead to believe gods ran the festival. Japanese Business Man walked off stage halfway through, brought a man from the crowd to replace him while he sat, literally sat, in the middle of the crowd for ten minutes, yelling to himself.

Yep, Cosmosfest is definitely going to need Evangeline Wolfe to help clean up everyone mentally...

Cosmos Fest - June 9th
Evangeline Wolfe

UserPostedImage

Evangeline Wolfe takes the stage. There's no special lighting or effects as she does. There's just her with her acoustic guitar named Nelly. She wears minimal makeup on her face - just a little cover up and some soft red lipstick. She looks natural. The crowd roars for her as she tunes her guitar in front of the mic. Behind her, members of her band start to position themselves behind their instruments - David Clark on drum, Gregory Marquez with his guitar, her upright bass player Daniel Cooper, and her two backup singers, Ann Gilman and Tammy Gavin behind their mics. To the far left of the stage is an full classic piano, wooden and old-looking, but still beautiful. Evangeline's face is serious - she's nervous, but in control. She's known since the first time she could talk and walk that on the stage is where she needed to be, and that her nerves will pass once she starts playing. Without a word of introduction, she goes into her first song, A Secret My Heart Can't Keep. Without Carmen Grant, who originally collaborated with her in the song, the song definitely has a different feeling to it, but one that is all Evangeline. The moment she plays the first note of the song on her guitar, the crowd quiets down. They know that Evangeline isn't here to listen to them scream for her - she just wants to share her music, and they're willing to let her do that. She begins to sing, her voice angellic and calm. Her nerves aren't completely gone yet, but you wouldn't be able to tell from her voice.

Here I go again, smiling too sweet
Can't seem to hold it in every time that we meet
I get this rosy glow, and weak in the knees
I hope you don't know how fast you make my heart beat

I'm a little in love and I'm in a little too deep
Though I'll never say a word, it's a secret my heart can't keep

As she continues to sing, her foot starts tapping with the beat of the song and a small smile forms across her lips. Her nerves are cleared, she's in her zone. A few people start cheering from the audience, which makes her smile even more.

I'm a little in love and I'm in a little too deep
Though I'll never say a word, it's a secret my heart can't keep
My feet are on the ground whenever you are near
But my head is in the clouds while the rest of me is--

Here I go again, smiling too sweet
It seems that my heart has finally gone
And told on me!

In the small instrumental break between verses, Evangeline seem the most at her comfortable, swaying back and forth with the beat of the song. A large portion of the audience cheers for her as she does. She makes a small face at the audience, as if to say, 'Where did that come from?' and then lets out a little laugh before going back to singing. Her backup singers, Ann and Tammy, move in synch with each other as they sing with her, both of them tapping their hands against their thighs at the same rhythm that Evangeline is tapping her feet. The entire performance seems professional, but not overly rehearsed. It genuinely looks like everybody on stage is having a good time doing their part.

Here I go again, smiling too sweet
It seems that my heart has finally gone
And told on me!

I'm a little in love and I'm in a little too deep
Though I'll never say a word, it's a secret my heart can't keep

By the end of the song, most of the audience has started clapping to the beat that Evangeline has set up. When the song hits it's final note, they roar in applause and cheers. Evangeline can only smile and softly say, "Thank you," into the mic. This was something that she never expected in her life, and after almost a year of getting this kind of musical recognition, she still wasn't completely used to it. A stagehand runs on stage and hands Evangeline a different acoustic guitar. She puts hands Nelly to him and smiles as Ann walks up and hands her another guitar pick. Evangeline turns towards the crowd and lets out a small giggle. "I lose guitar picks so easily, so I have my singers, Ann Gilman and Tammy Gavin, keep some with them at all times on stage," she informs the audience like they're good friends. The crowd laughs and cheers, always appreciative of artists having a dialogue with their fans. "Hey, thank you so much. We're all so very pleased to be here." She plays the first few notes of Drifted Apart, and as she does, the crowd errupts in their cheering again. Evangeline grins and turns her head slightly to address her band. "Ready, fellas?" she asks, and they all nod. "What about you, ladies?" she asks her backup singers, who give a more enthusiastic yes. Daniel Cooper on his bass plays the beginning of Drifted Apart as Evangeline gets mentally ready to play and sing. Drifted Apart is a much deeper and more emotional song than A Secret My Heart Can't Keep, and she knows that it will make much more out of her to sing it.

I don't know where or how to start
To cover the years we've spent apart
You're way out West, and I'm in the East
On the phone at best, small talk at least

And it breaks my heart
Oh, how we've drifted apart

You and I were thick are thieves
The best of friends there could ever be
But time flies by and it's in the breeze
Just a shoebox full of memories

It's obvious in the course of the song that Ann and Tammy are going to be just as much a part of the performance as Evangeline is. They have spot on hand motions in move in perfect synch with each other that it's almost distracting from Evangeline - almost. Evangeline's voice and body movement project so much emotion that she draws all the attention to herself, making sure that the audience can hear every feeling that she has as she sings.

And it breaks my heart
Oh, how we've drifted apart

I'll never forget your kind brown eyes
Or the fingerprints you left all over my life

Still, it breaks my heart
Oh, how we've drifted apart
Oh, how we've drifted apart
Oh, how we've drifted apart

You and I were thick are thieves
The best of friends there could ever be
But time flies by and it's in the breeze
Just a shoebox full of memories

Evangeline stops playing her guitar, letting Gregory Marquez take the lead guitar position as she focuses all of her energy on singing the last two verses. She raises one hand into the air as she sings, as if she's having a religous epiphany, giving it her all until the final note.

And it breaks my heart
Oh, how we've drifted apart

And it breaks my heart
Oh, how we've drifted apart

The song ends, and the crowd cheers for her, louder than ever before, because now they've seen what Evangeline can really do. She smiles out at them. One woman in the front row keeps jumping up and down and waving, trying to get Evangeline's attention. Evangeline gives her a little wave, which causes the woman to scream louder and more enthusiastically than everybody else. "Thanks so much," she says as Gregory Marquez starts playing the next song. [color=cyan"This song is called Asked Me."[/color] She starts to take off her guitar by pulling it over her head. The guitar thwacks her in the forehead, causing her to stumble back a little bit. The crowd lets out a little gasp, but laughs when they see that Evangeline is laughing at herself. Gregory continues to play the beginning chords until Evangeline is ready to sing, obviously use to Evangeline's awkwardness by now. Evangeline just sings for this song, letting her band take care of the music. As she sings, she walks around the stage, moving to the beat. What she does can't really be called dancing, but it's definitely in sync with the music, and probably the best that Evangeline could do when it came to both singing and dancing, since she isn't very confident in her dancing ability.

Well, I know that I should know better
Then to sit here by the phone, waiting like a fool
And my mailbox never got those letters
That you promised would be coming my way soon

Well, it's a strange concept
With all the tears I've wept
That I would still accept
If you asked me

She raises her hand that isn't holding the mic into the air again, feeling the energy of the music and the crowd as she sings, her eyes closed. The parts of the crowd that know the song clap where they're supposed to. Even the band members seem to be really getting into the song, watching Evangeline move around and seeing how the crowd reacts to her.

Well, you show up when you want romancing
And I'm the perfect one to play the part
Well, I might be in your arms, dancing
But I'm not the only one inside your heart

I know you're not all mine
Because I've seen your wandering eyes
Still I would not decline
If you asked me

Evangeline opens her eyes again and moves across the stage towards Ann and Tammy. As she does, she waves to more members of the crowd, smiling at each one of them as she were taking personal time out of her performance to acknowledge and thank them for being there.

Everybody sees that love has made me blind
And everybody knows that I have lost my mind
And it may be true, my heart may be askew
This love may be a ruse,
I have everything to lose
But how could I refuse
If you asked me

Oh, my love I can't repress
So, boy, I must confess
What I wish you would request
And I'm not going to make you guess
So put me out of my distress
With or without you, I'm a mess
And, boy, I would say
Yes!

Evangeline motions to Gregory as he plays the small guitar solo. As he plays, she joins Ann and Tammy in their movements, which is swaying back and forth, and snapping to the beat.

If you asked me

As the final note is played, Evangeline makes a dramatic movement, high-kicking her left leg and bringing it down right as the final note hits. It was obviously not planned, but just something that she did in the heat of the moment in the song. She giggles a little bit at herself and blushes as the crowd cheers for her. "Thank you" she says as she puts the mic back in the mic stand and again grabs her guitar. Ann hands her another guitar pick, which makes Evangeline giggle. "Alright, here's another song you might remember from Stay Strong, Drift On." The crowd cheers at the mention of the album. Evangeline smiles brightly at them. "It's called... Stay Strong, Drift On." She laughs as the crowd erupts into cheers for the title song of her album, and her number one single. David Clark starts off the song, and then Evangeline and Gregory Marquez follow - the song definitely sound better live than in the studio, and any Evangeline Wolfe fan will attest to that.

If the water's cool
I might just swim
If the sun shines right, I might be here all day
I'd drift away
In a sunken state
I'm busy lapping it up
I might be here all day

With the tides and their little secrets
Whispering me to sleep
Would you take away my weakness?
So I can drift on
Drift on

Evangeline's face is absolutely glowing the entire time she sings the song, which takes away from the emotions in the song a little bit, but not enough to make a major difference. There's obviously a lot of great memories connected with the song, and although her fans may not know all of them, Evangeline certainly remembers.

If the water's cool
I might just swim
If the sun shines right, I might be here all day
I'd drift away
In a sunken state
I'm busy lapping it up
I might be here all day

With the ripples and their stories
Cooking up a storm
Will you carry all my weakness?
So I can drift on
Drift on

If the water's cool
I might just swim
I'd drift away in a sunken state
I'm busy lapping it up
I might be here all day

With the under current lurking
Watching sideways from afar
Could you take away
My weakness?
I'm not that strong
You see, I feel so heavy
Without you

And you say
Drift on
Drift on
Drift on
Drift on
Mmm...
Stay strong
Drift on

If the water's cool, I might just swim

The smile remains on Evangeline's face the entire time until the final note of the song. Her performance thus far has been pretty spirited and enthusiastic, but she takes some time to slow herself down and just enjoy playing the music in Stay Strong, Drift On. The crowd seems to do so as well, saving their roaring applause and cheers for the very end. "Thank you," Evangeline says softly into the mic, her voice sounding almost like she were daydreaming. She shakes herself out of it and puts her guitar down once more, and crosses the stage to the piano. As she does, she passes by Ann and Tammy, both of which who pat her on the back, whispering words of encouragement. They both know how nervous Evangeline was about this performance, and how well she's done despite that. Evangeline sits down at the piano and plays a couple of notes before starting Sadness is Sweet. It was Evangeline's first song to ever hit mainstream radio and the song that really made her known, so it's definitely one that means a lot to her.

Yesterday, when you drove away
I felt my heart break
As I waved, I concentrated
On my precious pain

My sadness is sweet
A love so deep
It broke clean in two
A piece for me
A piece for you

The song is a simple one, but that's what makes it so beautiful. Ann and Tammy harmonize with her perfectly through the song, making it sound very much like a choir of angels singing on stage. When she sings, "A piece for you," the glances out at the audience knowingly, a small smile on her face. Most people in the crowd catch it, causing a sudden wave of good feelings to course through the audience.

It can be your good luck charm
A talisman from fear and harm
It will keep you safe and warm
Until you're in my arms

My sadness is sweet
A love so deep
It broke clean in two
A piece for me
A piece for you

Yours is broken, too, I see
Just before you had to leave
You left half of yours for me
Now both our hearts are complete

My sadness is sweet
A love so deep
It broke clean in two

My sadness is sweet
A love so deep
It broke clean in two
A piece for me
A piece for you
A piece for me and
A piece for you

The audience cheers for Evangeline, of course, but there's a different feeling to them now. There's seems to be almost a psychic understanding between everybody in the crowd and Evangeline now - they all understand not only how much Evangeline has work to get to this moment in her life, but also how grateful she is for all the love and support that she's gotten from her fans - and not only are the fans appreciative, but they want to continue to give her that love and support. As they continue to cheer, Evangeline gives them a small wave and a goof smile, as if to say, 'Oh, stop...' She crosses the stage again back to her guitar. "Thank you. Thank you so much." She puts her guitar back on. "This song is called I Know." The song was originally sung with folk singer Yasmine, but now Evangeline sings with Ann and Tammy, harmonizing with them just as well as she had before with Yasmine, although in a different way. While in the studio recording with Yasmine, there was a sort of mellow feeling to the song as a whole, this live version is much peppier and happy. The reason for this could be that now there are three voices singing together instead of two - or because Evangeline truly is just happier now - but either way, there's definitely a new feeling to the song than the fans know before.

It's in our hello
And the way his smile glows
And it's in our goodbyes
And the tear in his eyes
And all in between
When he's looking at me
I know
I know
I know what he doesn't say

And it shimmers through
In the things that he can do
When he writes me a note
And he sends it by post
And what he might not sign
On that bottom line
I know
I know
I know what he doesn't say

Words are not needed
The more my ears could be mislead
My heart can hear instead of
What goes unsaid

He'll leave me with this
A hug and a kiss
Those three words he can't say
But he'll never be blue
Because I always knew
And I know
I know
I know and I love him, too

The song ends and the crowd cheers for her again, the same knowing cheer that they gave her before. All the people watching Evangeline tonight will never see her the same way as a musician again - not only will they see her as a musician, but they will see her as a person, almost a little girl inside of an adult body who is still so unsure of every talent she's been given. For most of the fans tonight, they've come to respect her more as an artist, knowing how hard it is for her to see the worth she has in the musical world, even after the Chaos Awards and the number one singles. Evangeline's set keeps the same pace as she sings her next hit single Out, followed by Old Time's Sake and Still Heartbroken. The night is starting to get dark as she starts playing her final songs, and the crowd can sense that the show is about to come to an end as she plays Wonder, We Aren't Beaten Yet, and finally, That Love I've Known Before. That seems like the last song she's going to play for the night, and the crowd starts to shift, knowing that soon they'll have to leave the concert and go back to their normal lives, but Evangeline lets out a small sigh and looks down at her guitar, and then back out at the crowd, letting them know that she's not done with them yet. "I'm going to play one more song," she tells them, her voice sounding quiet - almost weak if nobody knew any better. "This last song is one that means the absolute most to me. It's the first track on my debut album, and it's one that I wrote almost five years ago at a very dark moment in my life." As she speaks, the rest of the band - including Ann and Tammy - leave the stage. She's now alone, just her and the crowd. "This song is called Five More Minutes." Evangeline starts playing an acoustic version of the song, one that's never been heard before. The song was pretty mellow already, but never sad sounding. Now, in this live acoustic version, there's very obviously pain behind Evangeline's voice as she plays. For most fans of Evangeline's, they know that the song is written about Evangeline losing her mother and wanting so badly to just spend five more minutes with her.

[b]I'm not tired in the least
Five more minutes, please
The sun hasn't set
It's painting the west
Picture pretty

Hints of lilac light
But not a star in sight
Last call for kick-the-can
Please, just once again
Before I come inside

Don't want to go to bed
Don't want to close my eyes
Don't want to rest my head
And end this summer night

Don't want to go to bed
And end this summer night

Fireflies glow for us
The cricket's orchestra
The night is awake
Please, don't make me
Go to sleep
I'm not tired in the least
Five more minutes, please
I'm not tired in the least
Five more minutes, please

Don't want to go to bed
And end this summer night

Don't want to go to bed
And end this summer night

As the song ends, a couple of tears run down Evangeline's face, but she smiles out at the crowd, the tears a mixture of happiness and sadness. "Thank you so much. You've been so wonderful," she tells the crowd as she sets her guitar back down and folds her hands at her waist. She waits for the crowd to calm down before she starts to speak again. "I don't want to do an encore..." she starts, surprising a few people. "It's not that I don't want to continue playing, or that I don't want to be in front of you guys anymore. If it were up to me, I'd play for you as long as you'd let me--" There's a small cheer from the audience, to which Evangeline grins and giggles at. "I know that tonight is the last night as Cosmos Fest, and I wanted to leave you with something that I hope you'll remember: Life is far too short to spend second guessing yourself and your talents. And you are worth so much more than you give yourself credit. Maybe sometimes you wake up in the morning, and you have no idea why you're even on earth - that's okay. I know what that's like, and I'm telling you that it's okay to feel like that sometimes. But do not even for a second think that you have no purpose at all, because that's absolutely not true. Every one of you has a reason for being here, today, right at this moment. Life is not pointless, life is not meaningless, life is not trivial. And I know - I know - that sometimes life can seem rough and hurtful, but nothing is forever. Always remember: This too shall pass. Thank you." She gives one last smile to the crowd before starting to walk off stage. Before she's even halfway off, the roar of the crowd is so unbelievable that you can't hear anything but it. The cheering goes on long after Evangeline has already left the stage and the lights go out. Nobody walks away from the show without some sort of intense emotion in their hearts.

Bryan Kobayashi walks back on stage for the last time. "Wow, we had a few minor hiccups but, everything went very well! Thank you all so much! I am euphoric right now! Unfortunately, we have to kick out the minors. Sorry, guys, but this next part is 21+. Look out for Abie Lena and Glotophobia! It's going to be one hell of a conclusion show to this fucking rad fest! I can't thank everyone enough for pitching in and helping, and you guys for actually attending. Thank you all, have a great night! *He walks off stage grinning from ear to ear.*

OOC: Thank you guys for contributing to the fest! I seriously thought this would crash and burn horrifically. The second day did due to me getting called into work (Thanks, boss.) but I'll be posting the live RPs I didn't post on the second day. Let's do this again next year. I have some plans for some more up and coming projects, stay tuned for 'em! :)
