In Hiding... (2 of 2) is the second EP recorded by Vietnamese-American recording artist Reese Hollinsworth, which will be released on June 12, 2014. Following up on the release of his debut,
In Hiding... (1 of 2), Hollinsworth continued on trying to build his image, which was held under extreme media scrutiny after the release of singles "
Naughty Girl" and "
If I Were a Boy/You Oughta Know." Not minding the opinionated critical response, the covers on the EP continue on the theme of sexuality and female empowerment, in addition to love and relationships; sang from a female perspective.
The covers, like
In Hiding... (1 of 2), include Hollinsworth's rendition of songs by multi-Grammy-winning American recording artist Beyoncé Knowles, which are mainly written in R&B and soul genres; with a few notable changes of his own. Some songs also feature elements of pop and funk. The album was released as digital download to iTunes and Google Play Music, compact discs to Target among other retailers, and vinyl records to numerous record stores around the world on June 12.
Upon its release, the extended play was met with critical acclaim. Metacritic gave the EP a weighted average of 88 based on 37 reviews. Melissa Maerz of
Entertainment Weekly gave the EP an A, stating, "Ignoring the doubters of his career, Hollinsworth fought back with a continuation of his debut, which featured him growling and grovelling emotively to the musical masterpieces of Beyoncé, for which I can gladly say that Hollinsworth is pretty high up there in the running to be the male version of Beyoncé." Adding to her review a few days later with her opinion the deluxe edition tracks, she praised his vocal versatility, being able to "switch from '[being] Monica Lewinsky'd all over my gown' to 'remember[ing] it all too well' without losing vocal power or emotion." Jason Lipshutz from
Billboard gave the EP a score of 84 out of 100, especially praising Hollinsworth's "ultimately spectacular" vocal portrayal within "Partition," saying, "If you thought 'Naughty Girl' [from
In Hiding... (1 of 2)] was seductive already, wait till you hear his version of 'Partition.' From the half-rapping to the sexually welcoming vocals, Hollinsworth totally nailed what was originally what only Beyoncé can do." Also praising the transition to country and mainstream pop in the deluxe edition, Lipshutz said, "No less amazing than the Beyoncé covers, the lovelorn sounds of Taylor Swift sounded even better with Hollinsworth's voice, thanks to his ability to virtually growl emotionally in 'All Too Well,' giving the song a forgiving ferocity it almost had in the original [...]"
The deluxe edition of the EP also featured Hollinsworth's first released original musical content, "Here's to Being 22." "Here's to Being 22" is a mainstream pop song with minor elements of Taylor Swift's "22" and Avril Lavigne's "Here's to Never Growing Up." The song was single-handedly written and produced fully by Hollinsworth, though he also credits Swift and Lavigne as producers.
