The following white label single-track 12" vinyl has been distributed on June 4th 2014 to five locations around the world only. In Los Angeles California; Kingston, England; Tokyo, Japan; Melbourne, Australia and Dortmund, Germany, copies of an un-named record bearing the code 0100100101010100010100110100110101001111010011000100110001011001 dropped through the letterboxes of five independent record merchants, who were instructed to pass the vinyl on to the second customer they served that day with instruction to mention the title only via Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn. The record found its way to five worthy music fans, and quickly word spread via social media. Hardcore music fans have discussed the song itself, its origins, its recording, its meaning, and most importantly, where it came from. The mystery remains, with no one yet laying claim to the track. The age of social media and sharing has meant that the track has made its way onto the internet, creating a buzz ahead of the upcoming festival season through word of mouth and spreading uncontrollably...virally...ever since. Now that the record has had the desired impact, the originators have decided to allow the track to circulate via an official webpage. The page, //WHITELABEL//OUTLAST//, will exist until 8PM BST on June 7th 2014, when more details will be revealed. Clues are scarce, but the public are informed of a number of buzzwords that can be used to break the code: Ascend, rejected, outlast, outlive, outdo.

Artist: ?????
Title: Outlast
Genre: Hardcore/Metalcore
Length: 5:17
Written By: ?????
Produced By: ?????

The track begins with the sort of crackling muddy popping sound indicative of vinyl from days gone by, before the sound is dominated by a period of white noise and interference, which crackles and spits for the better part of a minute, building to a crescendo. This sound is eventually eradicated by a swooping, sucking noise which almost drags away the interference, replacing it only with the popping vinyl silence once more. For a few seconds, the void hangs heavy in the air, before the sound of a record stylus being moved onto a record can be heard, making a momentary scratchy screech, before the sound comes into play. The first thing that can be heard is a fading whirring noise, before a quiet voice can be heard almost whispering in the background, barely even audible. The voice gradually starts to get louder and louder, the volume increasing. "Outlast, outlive, outdo.....outlast, outlive, outdo" the voice repeats over and over. It is a neutral American accent, a deep but not booming voice which sounds almost dead, emotionless and in a single tone. After a while, the sound starts to jump and skip a little, getting louder and louder before it starts to speed up, the tone of voice becoming higher as the pace ramps up. It sounds far more intense, almost menacing as it gets to its crescendo, screeching and sharp in tone. By the end, the skipping of the track gets so serious that the voice is simply repeating the same word over and over again. Outlast....outlast....outlast....outlast...last..last...las....l... it repeats over and over, before it scratches again, and the needle is lifted from the record, leaving it with just the same popping noise at it started with. Following the eerie message that preceded it, the silence seems quite ominous, and leaves the listener feeling alone, anxious, afraid.

After another few seconds of silence, all of a sudden, there's a screeching guitar chord, which bursts through the wall of silence, shattering the dark serenity as it brings with it a thumping bass drum, relentlessly and repeatedly battering on in the background as the chord rings out. A guitar slide and a bass fill then precede a flashy and showy drum flourish, which is followed by four thumping and distorted notes, bringing everything to a halt. From the millisecond of silence, the serenity is then torn away by the gravelly growl/scream of the song's lead singer, who venomously spits out the first line of the track with no musical accompaniment. The voice is laced with an intensity and anger that really brings the song to life from the early seconds, and a confidence that suggests maturity, thought, style and experience in the industry. After the first line, the drums kick back in and the heavy distorted guitars join in, playing a hardcore riff that you can feel thumping all the way to your core. The song is loud, intense, its lyrics dark and lonely. Throughout the duration of the clearly heavily produced and highly skilled track, the voice - which is steeped with such skill that it sounds like it should be familiar - is intense, bringing an emotional element to the song that wouldn't fail to attract the attention. Throughout, the verses are heavy, fast, violent - the very staples of hardcore music - while the choruses are hard hitting, thumping and filled with a staccato style that just begs to be yelled along to. The breakdown that ends the song is so heavy and bassy that you can feel it rock you to your very core, and you know by the end you have just heard something that breathed new life into the hardcore genre and gave a new edge to heavy music and emotional songwriting in the 21st century.

As the breakdown at the end of the track comes to a close, and the drums bring a thumping punctuation mark to the astonishing, hard-hitting heavy hardcore song with one last flourish, the silence is once again broken only by the sound of vinyl popping and crackling in the background. This continues for a few seconds before a garbled voice yells something incoherent, and the track ends with a single click.

--

I was led to believe that this was no way to die,
Eyes closed, limbs out, lungs tight, ready to fly,
I spread my arms to look like wings,
A flight to find the finer things,
Blood moves faster than ice but now I'm running dry

So I watch the sands drain down and count the final day,
Every sight gets dimmer now as my lifeblood slips away,
Born to raise above this class,
Cursed to walk on broken glass,
Close my eyes as I wait for curtains on this play

No hope, no head,
No one to ease my dread,
I don't hear what they say,
I've carved this path for me
No hope, no head,
No one to find me dead,
I will not last this day,
I made this bid to be free

You're so quick in passing judgement like we're down below,
Judge, jury, God and death, you're the blood from which we flow,
Words like poison in my veins,
I don't have time to play these games,
The time is right and now I've made the choice to go

No hope, no head,
No one to ease my dread,
I don't hear what they say,
I've carved this path for me
No hope, no head,
No one to find me dead,
I will not last this day,
I made this bid to be free

We tried to stay in touch but I'm disconnected,
Incommunicado but not misdirected,
Open up and let me burn,
No hope left nowhere to turn,
One too many times I've been disrespected,

No hope, no head,
No one to ease my dread,
I don't hear what they say,
I've carved this path for me
No hope, no head,
No one to find me dead,
I will not last this day,
I made this bid to be free

And inside, I fell to me,
No one outside to set me free
My poison came from inside me,
I made a choice to set me free
No reading between the lines,
No sand left, that's my time,
I've been waiting to see the signs
But no respite comes to me

Nova: I like this, like a lot. Probably a little too much for a song of this type but I can't wait to see who this is, or they.

OOC: Still confused and not able to work out what this '0101101' business is but you're smarter than the average forum user :P

Josh: A female? Haha I'm not sure what to make of that. Maybe I'll have to man up my screaming from now on, huh? Thanks! Hopefully you enjoy us at Warped. We're definitely bringing the energy to our live shows.

Oscar: A part of Blood of Wecz is till going strong, all is right in the world of music again! I should've known that Josh was involved due to how insanely good this track is. Glad to see you're still making great music. Can't wait to hear more from you guys.

OOC: OK, thought I was being smart and figured out who was singing. I got the "Molly" part and thought it was a girl haha. I would go on to tell you how in awe I am over your lyrics and description but you already know I envy your writing talents lol. Loved the whole mysterious vibe around the track.

Josh: I only realised after I put all that code out there that it was probably far too confusing to everyone haha. I should probably have used something else rather than Molly since it seems like everyone thought it was a girl. Thank you, though. I'm happy you liked it!

OOC: Haha thanks :) Glad you liked it, and that the mystery worked :P Thanks again :D
