What is your favorite Christian songs, songs that make you want to cry or simply fill you with happiness.

My two most favorite songs:
How Great is our God by Chris Tomlin
Breathe by Rebbecca James

There are a lot of Christian heavy metal bands that I dig, if that counts. Dancing MORTIFICATION, DELIVERANCE, RECON, ULTIMATUM, THE MOSHKETEERS (how can you not love that name?), VENGEANCE RISING, TOURNIQUET, BELIEVER etc. etc.

I'm a Christian (well probably a bad one but I'm still one) and I don't listen to any Christian music, probably the closest Christian music I've heard is the Oh, Father outro from Paramore on their live DVD.

Christian music is 99 times out of 100 the most soulless, boring, insipid and uninspired music in any one genre of music. And that's totally different from Christians in bands to Christians making Christian music. I'm perfectly happy with a band like Zao (one of about 2 modern metalcore groups I don't hate) for example. But Christian music. *shudder*

The singer for that band sounds exactly like me when I scream. :P

......... seriously, posts like these make you seem like a bigger asshole than me and quite a few others who I will not mention...
Living Sacrifice is one my favorite christian metalcore bands of all time... but The Ascendicate, Seventh Seal, Becoming the Archetype, August Burns Red, Oh Sleeper, The Devil Wears Prada, Extol, Haste the Day, MyChildren MyBride, The Showdown, Staple, (Not so much) Underoath, are the metalcore bands I listen to, although fewsongs are their best, 68 by Haste the Day is really good in my opinion along with Dichotommy by Becoming the Archetype, Html Rulez D00d by The Devil Wears Prada and Killers by Living Sacrifice. Oh yeah, Death Threat by The Famine is great too.

James's God-related songs are about the most "Christian" music I'd listen to and they're not all that Christian - unless you throw Morti into the equation. He writes actual Christian music, he sells some, I get paid for it - that's some good Christian music. ;)

Old LIVING SACRIFICE shreds... the newer stuff ain't for me though.

There are plenty of good Christian bands... just also a lot of very, very bad ones.

I was half-joking. But I do have absolute disdain for the idea of Christian music - artistically, commercially, morally, I just don't buy what they're selling. I'm all for people putting things they believe into their music, but when you are marketed based on those beliefs more so than your actual music, or if the "message" is of greater importance than the music itself, then I'm likely to take issue with it.

Call me a traditionalist, but I prefer gospel choirs to any of these Christian versions of popular genres, especially when they sound about as authentic as a parent trying to reach out to their children with cool hip-hop lingo. Not to mention the fact that all the genres these Christian groups co-opt are genres I generally dislike to begin with...

Well then, there you have it. I think that especially a lot Christian thrash bands were absolutely brilliant. There were no bands back in the day that sounded like VENGEANCE RISING (who combined really aggressive, hard hitting DARK ANGEL style thrash with bluesy sounding pentatonic scale based guitar solos, good stuff!) and as technical (in a good way, no wankery) as BELIEVER. I really couldn't care less what a band's religious or political beliefs are.

I've come to the conclusion that doom and some of its derivatives are about the only metal subgenres that I like, and even those I like the bands out on the fringes, not the big classics that you'd reel off. Not too many experimental Christian bands around.

You're right there. There are a couple of "extreme" doom bands, but they suck dick. VENI DOMINE (slightly progressive doom, reminding of old FATES WARNING meets CANDLEMASS, or something like that) and NOVY ZAVET (US style power doom from Russia) kick arse though, but those aren't what you'd call experimental.
