Early METALLICA is great, but all in all I think there were tons of better thrash bands in the US back then. I love Kill 'Em All, but it wouldn't even be in my top 10 American thrash records. Never was much of a MEGADETH fan though, can't stand Mustaine's vocals.

I agree about everything except the top 10 thrash albums, in which I would have Master and maybe Kill em all.

Ride is better than master man

I'd say the debut is their best, by far. But then again, I think AGENT STEEL's Unstoppable Force, DESTRUCTOR's Maximum Destruction and SLAYER's debut (that's right... no Reign In Blood) are much better albums than Kill 'Em All.

I have to disagree about ride, I just kinda like the whole vibe of master more, but ride is still pretty sick. Also, glad that someone else has come to terms that Reign in Blood is not Slayer's best work.

Most big Slayer fans agree to those terms. My favorite is Hell Awaits.South of Heaven is good too.But the thing about Ride that I love is that everything is perfect. It's got the best tone of any of Metallica's albums (band has even said this themselves) and it's like a bridge between Kill 'em All and Master. With all the proggy goodness of Master and all the speed of Kill 'em All.It's got "Fight Fire With Fire" which is fast as hell then it's got "Fade to Black" which is nice and progressive and then there's my favorite "Ride the Lightning" with tons of speed and technicality and that crazy riff at the beginning. Then there are the classics like "For Whom the Bell Tolls" with all of its amazing riffs and "The Call of Ktulu" which in my opinion is their best instrumental.

Fair enough, I won't argue with you about the tone or mix of speed and progginess of Ride. I just really have this feeling for Master, and I can't quite place it. It the songs like Battery, Leper Messiah and The Thing That Should Not Be that I live for. So I won't argue, like I said, but I can't say that I'll agree.

Their first comeback album was awesome, Tempo Of The Damned. And no way is Bonded By Blood ordinary, just listen to Piranha or ...And Then There Were None!

But I certainly don't want to hear a remaster of it.

Tempo Of The Damned is probably one of the best thrash reunion albums. The last two albums sucked hairy donkey balls though. The first three albums are absolute scorchers though. I'd say Bonded By Blood is the best thrash metal album to ever come out of the Bay Area.

BANG YOUR HEAD AGAINST THE STAGE AND METAL TAKES IT PRICE!

Reign In Blood, Master and Peace Sells are way overrated 1986 was NOT the best year for thrash, and yeah Ride and Kill Em All are better than any other Metallica stuff

Not the best year for thrash perhaps, but 1986 is definitely one of my favorite years in terms of releases (Epicus Doomicus Metallicus, Awaken The Guardian, Fatal Portrait, Energetic Disassembly, Pleasure To Kill, The Deluge, Crimson Glory, Somewhere In Time, The Dark... and the list goes on and on).

You know, Thorgrim, I never would have taken you for a Watchtower fan.

Also, I just realized that I named one of my fish after you. I couldn't place the name at the time, but I definitely have a betta named Thorgrim who is, ironically enough, a coward.

Also, on topic, I can agree that Metallica's first four albums beats almost anything Megadeth has done and definitely does when taken as albums instead of collections of songs. Ride the Lightning is one of the greatest metal releases of all time; like Nimrod said, perfect mix of prog and thrash. Just absolutely astounding. I remember it blowing my mind when I was like 10 and my brother brought it home when he was in middle school. The thing that I like the most about it is that it still has this element that is evocative of Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, THin Lizzy, or Iron Maiden when any of those are in their heavy-and-epic modes.

That having been said, Megadeth is better as a band. They've only released two duds... well, three duds. And one album that was as close to a dud as you can get without being one. But the rest of their material is killer; Peace is one of the greatest metal albums of all time, Rust is a fucking revelation that also cuts the perfect line between progginess, technicality, and thrashiness, and their debut is just balls-to-the-wall awesome.

I only know the first LP to be honest, but that one I fucking love. Classic old fashioned technical Texas thrash, what's not to like?

And kudos for the fish, haha! Are you sure it's not the manly one that annoys all the other fish though?

Nice Im not the only one who likes Watchtower I like Control and Resistance more than their first one, I guess its the vocals, and yeah '86 was a good year for metal (Candlemass, Kreator, DRI, Onslaught, Fates Warning, etc.) but not the best as people keep repeating... and I thought Bonded was released a couple of years earlier or something?

Cannot disagree with any of this.

Was lucky enough to see Exodus on the Tempo tour, it was fucking phenomenal really, so damn exciting to get to hear them playing Toxic Waltz!
