Mercedes Amelia Payne is a British singer-songwriter, better known as just Mercedes. She was born on 16th September 1992 to a Bajan mother; Amanda Tozer and a Polish father Niko Gzymka. Currently living in California, Mercedes is doing what she loves most, recording music and rocking glamorous outfits. She is looking for a label at this present moment who will be able to support her and believe in her unique creative style.

Mercedes' mother worked in a local bakery whilst her father has been unemployed for the majority of his life. Growing up, money was scarce and with her father struggling with the English language barrier things didn't get easier. Unfortunately the bakery her mother worked in closed down due to slow business and she was made redundant. With Mercedes at the age of 4 and needing a lot of care that her parents just could not give to her, they decided it would be best to send her to a children's home in London where she would receive all the care she would need. Her parents still visited her but as time went on, Mercedes grew away from them and when they separated, she began to see less of them. Despite her mother managing to set up her own business and get her life back on track again, Mercedes decided to stay in care as she "felt more at home there than anywhere else".

During her time at the home, Mercedes took part in many drama productions. Taking on main roles in musicals such as Oliver Twist, Bugsey Malone and Hairspray, she became one of the most talked about and respected kids there. She also developed a close relationship with Billy Khan (now a member of Weekend). The pair shared the same wild and adventurous traits and soon became best of friends, they even refer to each other as 'family'.

At the age of 18, she left the home in search of her own place. Her mother was now living in California with a new partner. Mercedes was soon reunited with her mother and has remained in Cali ever since.

With a mix of roots from different ethnic backgrounds and going from living in a poor council flat in Hackney to a loving cosy care home in London to laying on the golden beaches of California, Mercedes has experienced many different walks of life. She has put her eccentric and confident persona, her multi-cultural upbringing and her love for art and fashion all together to create her music. Mercedes has stated that her music can't be boxed, labelled and put into a genre, instead she says that she is her music as it's an extension of her personality and creativity.

Mercedes signed to Hot Eye Records back in early 2012 and was taken under the wing of her long term idol, Stephanie Fierce. Payne released the promotional single 'Shine On' in summer 2012 to overwhelming critical acclaim. The single peaked at No.3 in the charts and Mercedes was tipped to become music's next superstar. However, after Hot Eye Records folded, Mercedes found herself without a label and as she could not find a new home for her music within six months, all past material she had recorded for her now shelved debut album, Dirty Sexy Pop, is now property of the former owners of H.E.R.

Now, after over two years away from the spotlight, Mercedes is back and here to stay. Her official debut single will be released towards the end of this month and her debut album is set to follow soon afterwards.
