Title: High On Your Love
Length: 3.35
Label: FREEDOM
Genre(s): Reggae, Dancehall
Written By: Lacy Brown, Laura Jackson
Produced By: Neavah Martinez, Wundah
Sounds Like: Melissa Steel - Kisses For Breakfast

'High On Your Love' is the new and comeback single from British girl group The Dolls, the song marks the first new material from the group since April of 2014, when the released the final single from their debut album, 'High On Your Love' also marks the groups first single without band member Elle who left the group after not agreeing on the sound direction of there new album which is now due out this year, this song is said to be the first single off their second album.

Fast forward now to 2015 and the girls now as a fourth piece are releasing their long awaited comeback single, 'High On Your Love' was written by two members of the group, Lacy Brown and Laura Jackson, the songs lyrics depict romance so we can only imagine it's about their boyfriends, the song was produced once again like many of their other singles by their label boss Neavah Martinez, but this time they brought in Dancehall producer Wundah who helped give it a reggae vibe, this marks the first song from the group not to be produced by member Melva Griffin, who has helped Neavah on all previous material.

'High On Your' is an upbeat reggae and dancehall song that has a strong west African vibe to it, lyrically the song talks about being high on someone's love and your telling them that they mean so much to you both physically and mentally, the song has a total length of three minutes and thirty-five seconds, the main thing that stands out is how little Melva sings in this song, usually Melva is one of the main singers of the group but is taking a step back for this new record and album to let the other girls shine, with this song focusing more on Lacy and Laura's vocals who were not given many solos on their previous releases.

The song starts with a small opening instrumental which has Melva speaking over the top of it as she ones the song with a spoken section, after the instrumental has finished Lacy's voice can be heard singing the first verse of the song, with a very soft and sutle tone to her voice as if she was almost talking directly to the guy she is singing about, after Lacy finishes singing, the beat changes slightly becoming a little reggae in sound as all the girls can be heard singing the first chorus of the song eqch complementing each others voices, the beat then changes back to a more dancehall sound as Laura sings the second verse, Laura sings this verse the complete opposite to how Lacy had done in the first verse, Laura added much more fire and power in her voice and a lot of attitude, after Laura ends the seconds verse the beat again changes but more drastically this time to more of a reggae dance sound as the girls sing the second chorus of the song they sing as if they are singing directly to their boyfriends that the song is about, after they finish singing the second chorus the beat changes once again back to the heavily influenced reggae sounding beat, Katie then begins to sing the third verse of the song similar to the way Lacy did in the first verse only not as sofr as Lacy did, Katie also had a happy tone to her voice as she was singing the verse, after Katie finishes singing the first three lines of the verse Lacy can once again be heard singing agin with a soft tone, she then sings the next three lines of the verse before Laura and Melva sing a line of the verse each until the verse ends, the beat again changes as it did in verse two to the more aggressive almost reggae salsa sound as the girls can be heard singing the final chorus again similar to how they had done in the first chorus only a lot more meaning and love than the first or second chorus had, after this the track goes completely silent befode Melva can then be heard again speaking the final message of the song in a sutle and sexy tone.

CRITICAL RECEPTION

'High On Your Love' received mostly positive reviews from critics with, Carla Pearce of Female First mentioned that the single "Combines infectious reggae riffs with a thumping summer beat to create a riot of a track that will no doubt become another smash hit. "Nick Levine of Digital Spy award the song 3/5 stars describing the chorus as "catchy enough, but was to soppy", UpdateTheBeat stated that "High On Your Love" was a "song for lovers" and it has the potential to be a number-one single! They went onto say, "The summer reggae beat is the first thing to strike you, as the girls sing their hearts out, If I was to describe the song in three words they would have to be Sweet, Sexy, Honest, Confident oh that was four..." They also went on to say that the girls have "clearly matured" and became more "willing to be more deep in their songs and emotions", he also stated the Lacy stole the song with her sutle vocals. And finally stated that "High On Your Love" is definitely the stand out track of 2015 so far.

DirrtyRemixes.com stated that the single is "amazing" and "just can't stop playing it! "According to a Metro publication, "High On Your Love" had a generally positive reaction from fans, Susana Novo Vásquez of The Huffington Post stated that "the indisputable team of Neavah Martinez/The Dolls have been the ones to set the trends over years for others to follow," adding that the song "continues down that path", Vásquez continued saying that the group returned into a moment where the "pop scene is dying" but thought that they were "doing it in a very intelligent way: by adopting some of the regge sound that is current on the rise right now, yet creating an intricate song structure", Robert Copsey of Digital Spy said that "like most The Dolls singles, a few listens are required to get our heads around it.", Copsey criticized the distorted vocals and the fact that "there probably won't be a full album of new tracks to accompany this song," but admitted that "it sounds modern enough for today's charts without compromising their signature sound" and praised its "massive chorus.", Douglas Wolk of Pitchfork Media thought that the track "is a game approximation of the dolls year last year,"

While BBC Music reviewer Ian Wade concluded that, "as its title suggests, 'High On Your Love' is just that, a way to say to there boyfriends or husband in Melva's case that they love them ", Phill Udel of State said that, with the song, The Dolls "have managed to maintain the quality" prior to the release of new album and commented that "the other songs by the group pprevious are nowhere near up to the same standard as this one.", Idolator blogger Sam Lansky commented that, for the fans, "High On Your Love" is a welcome relief to have an injection of fresh energy into the stagnant girl group scene, and concluded that, "given that this may be the group's first single without Elle, the girls are showing that maybe Elle was holding them back, as with a track that feels quintessentially perfect for the new year.", Rebecca Twomey of Marie Claire said that the group is "on key with the current trend for pop music with their new song," while noting that they have "clearly taken inspiration from fellow regge chart artists".

Prefix's Andrew Winistorfer finds that the song "will quickly replace the groups previous material in anyone's mind when it comes to The Dolls stating that this song is by far better than the older stuff." Bradley Stern of Muse rated the song five out of five stars, lauding it as better than top 40 reggae songs. He writes "It’s that kind of fresh, it’s that kind of innovative: The lyrics, the melodies, the song structure, the delivery, the beats–there’s not one part of this song that contains even a single molecular flaw, A writer from Evention writes "reggae musical, The Dolls style... An sweet Jamaican-sized anthem that’s just snatched the wig of every song released last year year, without even sounding like it tried to... they sound so hot to seduce you, but cool all in one, and that’s just what makes them so darn enticing, Jim Tonze of The Guardian writes that "What’s striking about the track. 'High On Your Love', is how it involves elements of nearly everything we’ve talked about. It has the sexy reggae/dancehall aspect, it has the innovative yet commercialedge of early seventies reggae and it has enough seductivity in their vocals to draw in the wedding crowd. Put simply, it’s the best-sounding love so g I’ve heard for a while' Sal Cinquemani of Slant Magazine positively reviewed 'High On Your Lovd', deeming it a "sassy smash-in-the-making that should prove popular with fans of The Dolls old or new.

Melva: Thanks Cassie, yeah ee get the whole not the same thing, but Elle refused to sing this so in a way be thankful she left or this 'jam' wouldn't exist.

Lacy: Thank you Queen Alexis :)

OOC - Thanks, to answer your question I admit that sometimes I copy them from wiki but I change them so they fit with my characters song, so I change what the review says etc, but I don't see it as a bad thing tbh, but 99% of the time I write them myself :)
