TISHA JACKSON HITS THE PROMO TRAIL - FIRST STOP 'THE ANGIE MARTINEZ SHOW'

UserPostedImage

[TISHA JACKSON @ POWER 105.1 STUDIO'S IN NYC - 10/7/14]

Angie: It is 2 pm October 7, 2014 and I have been teasing all week about a special surprise I have. The surprise is my next guess. I mean, I don’t know how to introduce her because she’s killed about everything. She’s from Brooklyn, she just broke history dropping her new visual album out of nowhere. She’s on her eighth LP, titled, 25. Ladies and gentlemen Tisha Jackson! What’s up?!

Tisha: What’s up Angie?!

Angie: I’m chillin’! What’s up Ti? You must be feeling on top of the world right now.

Tisha: Not even being on some funny ish… but yeah. Not in terms of ego, but creatively I do.

Angie: Okay! We gotta start with the album? How in the hell did you pull that off? I mean, no leaks, the shock, quality music, all a secret? How did that happen?

Tisha: I mean, it was one of those things were I had an idea. I toured over one hundred cities for ‘The Highway to Redemption Show’ and I was like, “Hmmm, I think I might take a break’. But then I realized I still had some material I felt like recording so I was like let me re-release ‘Highway’ and put these tracks out. But a lot of the fans were like “NO! Do a new record”, and at first I was like, “No I’m not doing that”. Then I thought about a new sound and I scrapped the entire project on the re-release and chilled for a month. Then in June I began reaching out to certain producers and a lot of new and experienced producers began reaching out to me because they heard about me starting a new project. And we basically had a camp, where we spent two weeks traveling the globe together, we were in New York, Miami, New Orleans, and Paris. It was like we were a family, it was a true collaborative effort, and that’s why you see three producers on a lot of the tracks, which is not the norm in music. We meshed well together, they understood the goal and mission.

Angie: Okay, so that’s the recording process. Now take me to Friday night October 3, I’m at home with my kid. Had a long day at work, came home, cooked, I fall asleep and my kid wakes me up and goes, “MOM TISHA JACKSON JUST CAME OUT WITH A NEW ALBUM”. I go to my phone, I have like a hundred text messages about, 25, “I’m like what the hell is 25’? Haha [Angie laughs, Tisha giggles behind her]. I go on iTunes, and there’s your new record. How did that happen? How do you keep that A SECRET?! Take us through the process of that.

Tisha: Okay basically that was the most challenging part because there were over fifty people involved with the album, from producers, sound mixers, and song-writers, and me. Then I have my entourage of people, they have their people, and then you have over one hundred people with knowledge of a Tisha Jackson album being in production. So I mean, contracts were drew up to the point where you even mentioned a key detail about anything, and it were mentioned in the media, you would be sued. I had Neveah Martinez, my homie and the head at my new label, FREEDOM, draw up contracts, and at that point she was the ONLY person who I told about the release of the album. I told her I had a release date in mind but I wasn’t ready to express it yet, and she was real cool about it, and told me when the time is right. So, by August all producers had to submit their final mixes in, and by September the album was mixed, and I went to Neveah and I told her I had been in contact with Eddie Cue [the head of iTunes, senior executive at Apple], and told him I wanted to release my album exclusively through iTunes without any prior announcements. I signed off on my part which was through Hit Factory Productions [Jackson’s own imprint] and Neveah signed off via FREEDOM. And by the grace of God only the three of us knew about the release of the album.

Angie: You know you made history right?

Tisha: Thank you. I say that humbly.

Angie: Okay 25 is a visual album…And every track off, 25 will be accompanied with a video, correct?

Tisha: Yes, the deluxe edition will be available exclusively at Walmart and all other major retail venues on October 17. It’s a two disc set, the first disc being the original ten tracks on 25, and the second being the ten videos for each song.

Angie: I just look back and I can say that I’m glad it’s you who did this first, and I think this is the spark of a new wave for you, and I’m excited for you!

Tisha: Thank you Angie! You’ve always been the homie because, from start, I grew up listening to you. We don’t call you the voice of New York for no reason and that’s why I should you out on “ferriswheel”.

Angie: Yes! I caught that, you said something about me not liking the interlude in Drake’s “0 to 100”

Tisha:[Laughs very loudly] Yes! So let me tell you, were in the studio recording “ferriswheel” the actual track, and while Dream and Mustard are mixing me and Childish Gambino are listening to you on 105 telling one of your DJ’s how the song is “So HOT until the interlude comes on”. And I’m like… “Is Angie serious? That’s my favorite part”.

Angie: Wow! I had totally forgotten about that until now. If you told me that would spark a response I would have called you a liar. That’s crazy!

Tisha: See [smiles at Angie].

Angie: So Tisha the streets have been talking, social media’s been talking, the memes on Instagram and Twitter of how you dropped 25 on the same day as Isabel’s new record came out. Was that planned?

Tisha: No absolutely not. It’s just I had planned a release date for my album before I even finished recording. I found out she was releasing her record the same day and I the thought of me changing the date never crossed my mind. I’m not worried.

Angie: What do you mean by your not worried exactly?

Tisha: I released my record when I felt it was right and I’m not interested in either my or her logistics.

Angie: Well we can guarantee you she was blinded by that one, but tell me about the 25’s lead singles.

Tisha: [Laughs at Angie being shady] Yes, “Rehab” featuring Drew Westbrook, and “Tourist” are the lead singles.

Angie: They come out this week right?

Tisha: Yes, I know for sure one is coming out tomorrow but I can’t tell you which.

Angie: Drew Westbrook was featured in the album’s booklet a lot.. [Angie teases Tisha].

Tisha: [Laughs] Angie stop it! He was like on two photos.

Angie: Yes! The only person other than you featured in the album’s booklet. I’m just saying.

Tisha: Well Drew inspired a lot of the album so it’s fitting that he’s on the artwork of two tracks.

Angie: Are the two of you dating?

Tisha:We like each other’s company. We’re friend

Angie: Come on Tisha? [Angie grins]

Tisha: Que? Mita you’re not getting it out of me. [Tisha laughs]

Angie: [Angie laughs with Tisha] How was it working on an album about femininity, feminism, and sexuality with women like Nadia Berry and Rum & Coke?

Tisha: Yeah, they were definitely advocates for the theme behind the album being feminism and pro-sexuality. I felt comfortable with them because I felt like they both got it, and they could help me interpret things so I can do a better job in my delivery, and I helped them infuse elements with my interpretations of things and that’s why writing with them both was so great!

Angie: How do you feel at twenty five, having an album dedicated to being twenty five, titled, 25, and it receiving the universal acclaim. Some of the dopest celebrities are shouting you and your album out. It’s like you made us a part of a movement. How do you feel?

Tisha: I feel splendid. I feel like I put everything out into the universe and I worked towards making it happen, and the universe, God, in return allow me to create some dope art that I am proud of.

Angie: This is your second album with the parental advisory sticker, and many people have said lyrics on the album can be “explicit”.

Tisha: Yes.

Angie: How do you explain songs like “Top” which talks about enjoying pain during sex?

Tisha: I don’t. It’s my song. I wrote it. I know what I meant by it whether I was talking about myself or someone I know. It’s my business and it is my right to talk about it and it is also my right not to get into specifics if I chose not too because I have heard the critics. It’s like people won’t art manifest anymore.

Angie: Do you think anyone will follow in your footsteps of releasing music this way?

Tisha: I don’t know. I haven’t thought about it. I hope so, not to necessarily release music the way 25 was released, but it’s cool to come up with alternative ways to releasing projects in general. You just gotta think outside of the box.

Angie: Do you feel like there is more pressure on you to outperform yourself now.

Tisha: No. I don’t want it to get that way. I don’t feel pressure; I just want to create great art.

Angie: Do you look at your fellow pop contemporaries as competition?

Tisha: No, I don’t do that either [Tisha giggles, Angie laughs at Tisha’s shade]. But seriously, to answer your question, No I don’t. I look at myself as my own competition.

Angie: I’ve always found that to be the most rewarding motto.

Tisha: It is, don’t worry about what he or she is doing, be concerned with what you’re destined to do. That’s when the real magic happens.

Angie: So for those of you who aren’t aware of this, Ms. Jackson is just full of surprises, she performed a surprise free twenty minute concert in the heart of Time Square. How was that?

Tisha: It was epic! The city had so much life that night. It’s a night I won’t forget. And I think it was the perfect time to introduce the new music. So we premiered the new singles live, when normally you prepare a visual. I wanted to put a twist to that.

Angie: Anymore surprises in store? Can I get an exclusive before I clock out?

Tisha: Well I guess ya’ll just gonna have to wait and see about that huh? [Tisha teases]

Angie: When are you coming back to the studio Tish?

Tisha: It won’t be as long as last time, because it’s been a while. But I’ll be around. You’ll see me God willing.

Angie: Thank you for coming by and giving me the first interview! This is big means a lot.

Tisha: I wouldn’t have want to do my promo without you being the first stop for this album specifically so, I am happy to be here. Thank you for having me.

Angie: Ladies and gentlemen, New York City, Tisha Jackson. Download her visual album, 25 on iTunes now.

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

The sound of water waving in motion is heard. A made up Tisha Jackson is in a warm bath soaking, fire red lipstick painted on her lips, her face slightly made up, Tom Ford shades on, and a Hair cap on her head. Tisha smiles at the camera as her body soaks in the bubbly bath.

UserPostedImage

She then turns her head to an old fashioned 1950’s styled radio that sits on the side of the tub. Jackson turns the volume up, and a static like sound is hear. The eerie beat to “Rehab” begins as Jackson turns the volume up louder.

Footsteps are heard creeping matching the dark eerie tone of the beat. You see a tall gentleman walking through the hallway leading to Jackson’s bathroom. The camera slowly moves upward from the gentlemen’s shoes, to his slacks, then his T-shirt. The gentleman is revealed to be Jackson’s rumored boyfriend, Drew Westbrook. The beat cuts off, and Tisha lets out a very tiny scream as Drew walks in staring at her naked body.

“Ahh”, Tisha then realizes it’s Drew.

“Drew you gave me a fright”

Drew laughs at Tisha, then replies, “Babe, who else could it have been. It’s only us two who live here”.

Tisha laughs, “Mmmhmmm” she replies, pouting her lips at Drew.

“Daddy you gotta get ready. It’s New Year’s Eve, we have mad parties to hit up. That means MAD ensembles before the clock strikes twelve. And I’m trying to turn up at all of them.

Drew laughs at how direct Tisha can be at times. “Imma hop right in the shower after you finish, you know it don’t take me but a minute to get ready”.

Tisha sucks her teeth like a person from the Caribbean. “Daddy, just join me, the water is still warm, the bubbles are still fresh, and I’m all wet.”

Drew bites his bottom lip at Tisha. He says, “Okay”. Then walks over to the bathroom counter where they keep all there liquor at. He grabs one of Tisha’s fourteen Grammy awards, and grabs a glass for Tisha.

Drew replies, “But first a toast”. He pours Conjac into the glass for Tisha, and hands it to her while she soaks, then he pours some for himself in her Grammy.

UserPostedImage

“Let’s toast to the hottest chick in the game. My future wife, tonight’s all about you babe. We finna turn up.” Drew creeps behind Tisha and kisses her on the neck. They toast, and the beat to “Rehab” continues, as the Arabian like intro fuses.

UserPostedImage

The camera cuts to Drew smoking out of a Hookah at one end of the tub, and Tisha drinking her glass of Conjac at the other end of the tub.

[Intro – DJ Mustard]

Mustard on that beat ho

[Verse 1]

I stay high, on cloud nine
You charge me and I get feral baby
I’ve been feeling, I’ve been feeling
A mix of tonic, toxic, and fixation emotions (oh na na)
A mix of tonic, toxic, and fixation emotions (oh na na)
Shots on fire, Habano Corojo #5 on top of rocks
Feeling like a fugitive with all these polaroid’s on my mug
When flashing lights become facts of life
Can’t tell the difference between that and the strobe lights from the sandcastle disco
Daddy got me glossy and faded turn up the fader baby- I want you (na na)
You wake up eating this cake daddy – I want you (na na)
They gonna have to send me back to rehab, your my new drug

Tisha and Westbrook are now dressed, and are heading out to party for New Year’s Eve. Instead of calling their chauffeur they decide to take the #2 train to their first party.

UserPostedImage

They hop off the number two train already fucked up. Drew and Tisha exit Penn Station and the next scene is set with the two of them entering the party. The first New Year’s Eve Party is very low key, it is at friends home. Tisha and Drew begin to to play pool; as the music to the song continues.

UserPostedImage

[Verse 2]

I swear I just blacked out
And I don’t give a fuck, watch my body probe to the sandcastle disco as these lights strobe
I’m off to rehab
Park it in my lot, I know the space gets tight, but for you I’m open 24/7
And I rub on it, I care for it, I speak on it like a reverend
I’m off to rehab
My dome is always right, Perrier-Jouet licked off some wood
Versace gown he Bill Clinton’d on, Donetella told me to wash it out
I’m off to rehab
I’m screaming like Mariah Carey when I grant him access
In my heels walk to the tub and grab that shower rod, shower rod, shower rod
On my Mimi rod, on my, on my Mimi rod
Imbibe on the wood, imbibing on the wood
Fuck swerving, I’m keeping all of his kids
Look at me while you grant me temporary custody

Tisha then begins to cut loose and sings along to “Rehab” while taking shot, after shit, after shot. This bitch has just exited ‘The Highway to Redemption’ and is one mile way North towards the streets, ‘I’m fucked up’. As Tisha and Drew continue drinking and playing pool with their friends, she says, “I’m hot”. Drew then takes off Jackson’s leather jacket and tosses it in the air. Tisha and Drew continue to drink, the kiss, and grind on each other. Tisha is now drinking beer.

UserPostedImage

The camera cuts to Tisha breaking into her friend’s bedroom and taking off all of her clothes because the liquor has her body temperature boiling hot. Jackson sings “I swear I just blacked out” and passes out on her friend’s bed.

UserPostedImage

[Chorus]

We woke up on the number two train off Penn Station
Shit got type critical, damn baby
Back to rehab, you’re my new drug
I swear I just blacked out
Last thing I recall is our splendidly beauteous bodies penetrating and peculating in the club
Back to rehab, you’re my new drug

Drew wakes up Tisha from her friend’s bed, and she steals one of her friends outfits out of her closet, and begins to curl her hair, putting it into a pony tail. “Drew call our chauffeur, we gotta go”. Tisha says, as the couple prepares to hit up the next party.

Tisha styles her hair into a bun with a long side part bang hanging down her left side of her face. As Tisha is kissing her girls goodbye, and Drew gives his boys dap, Tisha friend notices she stole her outfit. She taps Tisha.

UserPostedImage

“Bitch those are my clothes”? , Tisha's friend asks?

Tisha is so fucked up she pushes the girl out of the way and says, “I’ll send you Dontella’s latest collection tomorrow to make up” Her friend laughs at Tisha.

Tisha and Drew continue to drink in their Rolls Royce, as they enter the new party. Tisha and Drew arrive at 1 Oak, a popular New York City night club. They really begin drinking heavy there. She sits on his lap and drinks, they make out the entire time, and prepare to head to their final destination.

[Hook]

I’m bout to go back, to rehaaaabb, to rehaaaabb
You got me going off track, Don’t give a damn
Back to rehaaaabb, Back to rehaaaabb

The camera cuts to the final scene where they will open 2015 at. It is at a Night Rave. Strobe lights are flashing everywhere. At this particular Night Rave they are serving five course meals. Drew rolls up a joint for himself and Tisha, so when their food arrives, it will taste better.

UserPostedImage

Drew sparks the blunt and begins to smoke it. He then passes the blunt to Tisha as she inhales then exhales. Smoke comes from her mouth, and Drew enters his verse.

UserPostedImage

[Verse 3 – Drew Westbrook]

Your body is the shit
Mercy on my soul
I would never commit any sin against it
Present, past, future, you the baddest bitch to do it thus far
Ride Drewy, show me how that Bed-Stuy gushy work
I didn’t have to get in it, I knew it was good pussy when I saw it
I called it on sight
You get wetter, beat it up like Mayweather
I don’t even got ho’s on my celly
I’m riding with you, I ain’t got no desire or time to
Album ain’t drop yet and I’m on the biggest record ever
I hold you down, you hold me down
Drunk as fuck, I gotta hold you up
They couldn’t see us if they had a genie
On my bed I’ll do you
Giving getting head , Medusa
You ride it, I sip this conjac
Sipping belly shots on that beautiful body
You get me so high, I say "fuck a molly"
Good golly miss molly
Screaming, dranking, coming all on your body

Their food comes and Tisha leaves Drew to go party with the crowd. She is so high off Loud and so fucked up off all liquor she begins to sensually hump the wall.

UserPostedImage

Drew notices her behavior and whispers to himself, “I knew I should’ve left her crazy ass at home”. Tisha then begins to lick the walls of the club.

UserPostedImage

Drew begins to hysterically laugh at Tisha, and sips his champagne like Kermit like it isn’t any of his business.

Tisha and Drew then join the crowd as the countdown to 2015 begins. The clock strikes twelve and everyone raves and rejoices.

[Bridge]

That’s the problem, you’re my problem
Problem is I don’t wanna solve the problem
Liquor on my mouth washing down all of the papaya
Got me feeling higher than Courtney lovin that nirvana
Got me feeling higher than Courtney lovin that nirvana
I want your babies, daddy come here, right now
Wake up eating this cakey daddy, you’re my new drug

[Hook]

I’m bout to go back, to rehaaaabb, to rehaaaabb
You got me going off track, Don’t give a damn
Back to rehaaaabb, Back to rehaaaabb

[Outro]

Drank drank drinking
Drank drank drinkin
Sip sip sipping
Sip sip sipping
My new drug, rehab, gonna check in

Tisha then head towards a private section of the club. Still, a bit faded Tisha flips her hair, tounge kisses Drew to break in the New Year, and they playfully slap the camera from their faces as the video ends.

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

[The Intro to “Criminal” plays]

[Verse 1]

Blood falls from our fragile scars, criminal hearts behind bars
We damaged each other beyond the point of no return
Watched us burn into ashes in the urn
You got me faded from the smoke we created
And I'm driftin' to a distant place, constantly chasin' your face
Just stay here for a little longer, baby
I'm holding on tighter and my heart's beating stronger (Repeat x3)
My love is like a hourglass whose time has run out
I'm holding on tighter and my heart's beating stronger (Repeat x3)

[Lexie’s inner thoughts]

It wasn’t love at first sight. I didn’t mean to fall in love with him, but eventually I did. Granted when we met, I was physically attracted to him. He had such power, he commanded a room and the people in it when he entered. He didn’t steal my heart; it was more like he took it. He took it, the way he took the lives of people. I sat and watched him kill women and men, and was ordered not to say anything about it. I loved him, but now that love is fading. It has evolved into something else. I don’t know this man anymore, I don’t know Lexie anymore. Am I so far gone? No. Am I a criminal? Yes. Here’s my story. [Takes a deep dramatic pause]. Our story.

[The beat begins for “Criminal” officially]

Lexie is seen shooting a machine gun at security guards. Next to her is her boyfriend Cash. Cash and Lexie just robbed a bank. Cash starts their convertible and throws a large garbage bag of cash in the back seat. Lexie continues to fire the machine gun at the security guard, missing every shot. Cash says “Forget it”. Lexie turns around as the security guard runs after the now moving convertible. Lexie looks at Cash with passion in her eyes and says, “I love you”. Cash kisses Lexie on the cheek as they speed off. Lexie takes a look at the money they just collected, four bags of money, two million dollars to be exact. They have robbed six banks in a year, and completed six jewelry heist, in the state of California. Police have been searching for them well over a year, and have collecting a total of fifteen million dollars.

Cash and Lexie pull up to a very seedy motel. The couple exit the convertible, Cash carrying two bags, and Lexie holding the other two. The enter their room. The room is very dirty, the carpets have rusty stains on them, the air conditioner in the room is leaking and has left water stains on the carpet. The tope paint on the walls are chipped, and is clearly causing an asbestos hazard. Lexie and Cash rip open all four bags and dump them on one of the full size beds in the motel room. They smile at each other, and Lexie strips out her robbery clothes and heads to the bathroom. She nods at Cash and enters the bathroom. Lexie turns on the shower and it is cold, with no steam appearing from the shower. Lexie gets her hair wet as Cash hops In the shower with her.
She washes his back with soap and kisses his neck. After they shower, the two begin to count the money.

Cash looks at Lexie

UserPostedImage

“Now Lexie, tomorrow I am depending on you. This is our final heist, and we will officially be twenty million dollars richer than when we first met.”

Lexie licks her fingers to wet the hundred dollar bills as she counts them, separating the freshly printed bills.

“We’re at exactly two mill as expected”, Lexie says as she finishes stacking the money.

“I need you to make the run alone tomorrow”, Cash says to Lexie.

Lexie looks at Cash as if he had just slapped the taste out of her mouth.

“Pardon me”? , Lexie asks. “That is impossible, you taught me everything, why would I have to do it the run alone, who will cover me”? Lexie asks.

Cash is visibly upset. He frowns at Lexie.

“Listen Downtown Federal L.A. is the one of the largest banks in the country. We are not splitting this money with anyone else, so it’s just you and I. I need to be in the getaway care so we can head straight to Mexico after. We’ll hit right before eleven a/m, that’s when the bank is least crowded. We’ve been casing out this place for almost a year now, and you know if the both of us are inside this bank we won’t make it out. It’s no longer up for discussion.”, Cash is very demanding towards Lexie.

“Listen Cash, I appreciate all you’ve done for me baby, but you are a man, you should be inside not me.”

Cash takes the lamp next to the full size bed and throws it at a wall behind Lexie. The lamp shatters to big pieces as Lexie clinches her body from the loud noise of the impact to the wall. She looks visibly frightened of Cash as he gets off his side of the bed and stands over her.

“Not up for discussion, understood”? , Cash demands to Lexie.

“I understand”, Lexie looks bewildered and depressed.

[“Criminal” continues as Cash explains to Lexie the ins and out of the bank one last time]

[Hook]

How about we drop our weapons for a change?
Stop taking aim and surrender to our fate
We'll take the blame and share the shame
You're no longer mine and it's all on the line
How about we drop our weapons for a change?
Stop taking aim and surrender to our fate
We'll take the blame and share the shame
You're no longer mine and it's all on the line
Ms. Berry let’s get it, what’s up?

[Verse 2]

We still ache, we haven't healed
From the bombs on the battlefield
We became the unthinkable, and baby it's visible
We're both criminal
We’re both criminal

Arrows out and we aim for each other's heart
Handcuffs on we're guilty as charged
Now all that's left is floating in the atmosphere
We at a standstill until we watched us disappear
Our old love's invisible, but it's clear to see that you and me
We're both the criminal

It is the day of the final robbery. Lexie and Cash pull in the back parking lot of the bank. It is less cameras back there, and it will leave the smallest trace for the feds to track. Lexie pulls her face mask down and only her eyes are shown.

UserPostedImage

“You ready Lex”? Cash asks.

Lexie is shaken but she obliges, “Yes”. Lexie loads her gun and enters the back of the bank.
Lexie hits a guard in the head with her pistol. The seven people waiting in line scream out of terror. Another guard approaches her and she maces him in the eye balls. The customers yelling is growing. Both guards are down. Lexie yells,

“Everyone SHUT THE FUCK UP RIGHT NOW”!

She fires one warning shot into the air and the screams get louder.

“This is a fucking stick up, I want everyone on the floor right now.”

The customers gather on the floor, except one.

“Nigga did you just not hear what the fuck I said.?”

Lexie walks over the chubby white man reaching to his back pocket. She realizes he is going to pull out a gun and rushes him as if she were a line backer and grabs his pistol from his back pocket. She mistakenly grabs his policeman badge while recovering the gun.

“Officer, Goodridge, sit your ass down before I bust a cap in it.”

Lexie runs to the three tellers. She hops on the counter and points her pistol at them, she then throws them four garbage bags.

UserPostedImage

“Fill all this shit up, and if I see one of you motherfuckers ring that buzzer for the police, I will split your wig right the fuck open with this piece.” Lexie stares at the gun then the ladies as they fill up the bags, all hysterically crying.

Five minutes later they throw Lexie the bags one by one and she runs out of the back. She dumps the bags in the back of the convertible like usual as smiles at Cash as he speeds off. As they are pulling out of the back parking lot of the bank a police squad car pulls up trapping them. Police begin to shoot at the convertible. Lexie pulls out her gun and begins to shoot.

UserPostedImage

Cash then reverses the car the opposite way. Smoking is fuming from the exhaust pipe of the car as Cash reverses the car swiftly like the speed of lighting. They exit the parking lot of the parking lot and enter the freeway.

Lexie turns on the AM radio and listens to the reports of an armed robbery at Downtown Federal bank. It is now being reported on all major new outlets in the Los Angeles area that a male has robbed a bank with a female accomplice. Cash smirks as the news is reporting he robbed the bank, he is happy to get all the credit though he put in no effort into getting the cash.

“Get off at the next exit”. Lexie commands.
Cash looks at her in shock with one eyebrow raised and his eyes piercingly grilling her. He never heard her speak with so much force in her voice.

“Why would I do that”? Cash asks.

“Look we need to split up. In case the cops get on our ass. Drop the car off at the pier where we first met, and I’ll meet you there at seven tonight. You stay there, I will go back to the motel and collect our passports and we can be out tonight babe. Let me off at the nearest gas station.”, Lexie replies.

Cash looks at Lexie as if she’s lost her mind.

“You’re willing to risk all this for me”? , he questions her.

“I want to do what makes sense. I’ll ride for you, and I’ll die for you.” Lexie replies.

“You trust me. I can run off with this money and you could never see me again. I can be that grimy.” He tests her.

“But you won’t.” Lexie says confidently. This kind of behavior turns Cash on, and she knows his buttons.
Cash exits the freeway and drops Lexie off at the nearest gas station.

It is now seven pm and the sun is beginning to set. Cash is at the pier parked in the cut where no one can see him. A flashback occurs of when he and Lexie first kissed on their first date. He grins lovingly. Lexie enters the pier.

She is looking for the convertible but can’t pin point where Cash has parked. She sees a bathroom and walks in to call Cash. The phone rings…

CASH: “Where are you”?
LEXIE: “I am in the bathroom, where are you”?
CASH: “I am at the Far East side of the pier, I told you that’s where I’d be”
LEXIE: “No you didn’t. But I am at the same section as you in the bathroom. I’ll be right out.”
Lexie is about to hang up when Cash asks…
CASH: “This is the exact spot where we had our first date, how can you not remember”?
LEXIE: “Cash it was a year ago, and it’s at night, I’ll see you in a sec.” Lexie hangs up.

She looks at herself in the mirror of the ladies restroom. Lexie turns on the cold water from the faucet and takes a Sip. As the
water silks down her beautifully pink lips she hears a walkie talkie chirp. She turns off the faucet and her eyes look alert. She sees a shadow in the stall behind her as she turns her head.

“Roger? Do we have a visual”, the radio ask.

Lexie dashes to the exit of the bathroom when a brunette bust opens the door.

UserPostedImage

“Police, FREEZE” she yells, but Lexie is already out the door.

Lexie is running to Cash as the lady cop speeds after her.

UserPostedImage

Lexie sees the convertible and gives Cash the look of death. He notice her running and immediately starts the car, knowing something is up. He sees the cop running behind Lexie and says, “Oh shit”

The car starts, and the female cop shoots fire towards Lexie three times missing each shot. Lexie gets in the car and yells, “Get us out of here”. Cash reverses out of the exit of the pier. Lexie looks at the female cop now requesting back up. A squad truck pulls up in front of them.

Lexie yells, “Oh shit”! Cash backs up the opposite way and three LAPD chargers roll in back of them. Lexie looks at Cash’s wrist as he figures out which gear to put the car into next. She reaches to the left side of her right leather boot and pulls out a handcuff, and snaps it around his wrist at the drop of a dime. Cash looks like he just saw a ghost. Lexie reaches under her seat and grabs the pistol she left there, and says…

“Cassius Smith you are under arrest for the disappearance of Marie Goldberg, Tanya Rock, Eddie Silberstein, and Edward Thomas.”

Cash looks in disbelief, as the sirens roar, overcrowding his thoughts. “You can’t do this to me. I loved you.” He declares, now shaking his head, and crying.

“You are under arrest for the murders of Jerry Brock, Zaquan Myers, Sean Wright, and Joseph Segal".
Lexie begins to cry. She has been on duty as an undercover detective, sent to find evidence to put Cassis Smith away for life. She was ordered to get the job complete by any means necessary, even if it meant stealing or killing.

“You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say will be used against you in a court of law. You have a right to an attorney. If you cannot afford an attorney we will provide one for you.” Lexie reads him his Miranda rights.

UserPostedImage

Cassius is sobbing uncontrollably as Lexie exits the car and one of the officers opens the door to the convertible. He grabs Cassius’s free hand and cuffs him fully. Cassius looks at Lexie as mouths, “I’m sorry”. The officer turns his head and puts him in the squad car. Cassius grills Lexie.

The female officer who was chasing Lexie walks behind her and grabs her on the hip. She says to her, “Good work Lopez”, revealing her last name.

“Thanks”, Alexa Lopez replies [her actual name].

Alexa watches as officer Amanda Lively drives the convertible she and Cash committed so many scenes in to the police station.
In walks Alexa in the motel room, she and Cash resided. Amanda id laying on the bed full of money.

“Come on babe we have to hurry”, Alexa commands.

“A year’s work paid off. You chasing that loser, us framing him with robberies. Fifteen million dollars and now we can take off and go wherever we want. Brazil is where we’re headed, right babe”?, Amanda inquires.

Alexa walks to the bathroom to wash the makeup off her face. “Yes, we’ve talked about this for months".
Amanda can read Alexa is still on edge about Cassius arrest so she lets her cool off for a second, but still talks to her from the bed of the motel room. She hears Alexa fiddling a bit in the bathroom.

“It’s a shame he had to kill all those people though, but we made a good team”. Amanda reveals that it was a plot all along to frame Cassius, a drug lord, already suspected for the murders of dozens of people, with robbery heist done in the L.A. area, that would eventually collect twenty million dollars in money and jewels.

Alexa bursts out of the bathroom. “He didn’t kill all those people himself”, she reveals. Amanda looks confuses as Alexa pulls her pistol from her boot and shoots her three times in the chest, and one final time in her forward.

The plan is complete. Alexa has disappeared without a trace. Cassius was convicted of the murders of the first degree, but not for the robberies because officials realized it was a plot between the two lovers, Alexa and Amanda to frame Cash all along. Amanda was killed that night at the motel, therefore Alexa doesn’t have to share the twenty million. The scene ends with Alexa is chilling comfortably at her mansion in Brazil, as she floats in a pool full of money, smiling wickedly.

Tisha Jackson is staring at the television in a modest New York City loft. She has both of her arms up on the couch. On her television is Sarah Jessica Parker as Carrie Bradshaw, she is watching reruns of Sex and The City. Dressed in a Versace pants suit she is painted in blood, it looks as if Margaret Keane splashed paint on her herself.

UserPostedImage

The camera cuts to Jackson white slacks, which are drenched in blood as if she were walking in a pool of it. Directly in front of her feet lays a lifeless body. Jackson stares at the body and then turns the volume of the television down. She begins to cry uncontrollably, her mascara now running down her eyes.

UserPostedImage

Tisha picks up the old fashioned corded telephone and dials 911.

Operator: 911. What’s your emergency?
Tisha: Hello operator. I just killed my boyfriend.
[Tisha says very mellow as if nothing has happened]

FIFTEEN MINUTES LATER
Tisha is now being escorted out of her apartment building by two policemen. They put her in the patrol car and she looks out of the window at her apartment where she sees the corners placing her dead boyfriend in a body bag.

[The intro to “I Refuse” begins]

[Verse 1]

Bullshit is your language
Bullshit is what I call what you speak
You told me you love me
Carrie fever is what you have given me
But I feel smothered by your lies now
I thought you were supposed to be my Big
Except Big eventually stopped being a dick

[Hook]

Please take this personal
Don’t call my name
Don’t come after me
I’ll just run from you
You turned me off
Don’t bother I’ll just keep running away

[Chorus]

Please stay with you?
Nigga I refuse to
I refuse to
I refuse to
End it before I end you
I’m your wife?
Those other chicks is just tricks?
Believe that?
I refuse to
Now you can call me a stranger

Tisha has been detained. Detectives are in her face grilling her.

“Why did you do it”?

“What was the motive”?

Tisha says nothing

[Flashbacks of her being abused verbally and physically by her boyfriend are being envisioned by Tisha]

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

[Jackson’s voice/her conscious]

"In the beginning I did everything for love. I loved everyone. But the girl with the most free of hearts turned cold the moment the one(s) she loved decided to scorn her. I’ve fought and I’ve fought to get that sweet girl back. First fight then fiddle."

Jackson is in the middle of what appears to be an orgy of women.

UserPostedImage

UserPostedImage

The clock in their room strikes 4 am and the music for countdown begins. The camera cuts to the outside of the room that Jackson and her girls are in. The hallway has dozens of rooms. Each room is filled with people doing different activities, some rooms women are gambling, some room’s people are eating, other rooms people are fighting, and other rooms people are screaming as if they are in torment. The camera cuts to outside of the building Jackson and her roommates are in, outside the building there is no address but the words “casa de mi vida” are written on an awning. The camera cuts back to the orgy room which Tisha is in.

[Verse 1]

4 am, summer Saturday night alone
My pillow isn’t holding me back to night
Bad voice saying, maybe some Brandy will do the trick
Pessimism, forever will be the for a good time call me girls anthem
Forever optimistic I’d rather remain, countdown to love
Countdown to love

Jackson walks away from the orgy. She is done with that phase of her life. She walks to the hallway. As she walks down she sees all the obscene crimes to humanity committed by humanity.

UserPostedImage

While she is disgusted she is also intrigued. She enters one of the rooms. A room where men are gambling. Jackson joins the men and begins to dance sexually on the table they are playing craps on. The men cheer Jackson on. They give her drugs and she continues to dance as the play their game.

UserPostedImage

UserPostedImage

[Pre-Chorus]

1,2,3, love come down come
1,2,3, love come down come
1,2,3, love come down come
This time will be the charm
Countdown to love

Soon Jackson realizes that the men aren't paying much attention to her anymore. She looks unsettled, she tries to get their attention by dancing more provocatively, but the men don’t budge.

UserPostedImage

She realized how stupid she looks with coke under her nose and no clothes on. She gathers herself and exits the room.

[Chorus]

I will fall in love; I’ll give it another try
I’ll love on myself so much, others won’t have to touch
My joy will soar through my spirit into the atmosphere, mimic God’s holy touch
I will fall in love; I’ll give it another try

[Post-Verse x2]

I won’t stay down, I won’t let negativity be my death tonight
I see the light, a new dawn has come
One that will bring a new love to my life
I won’t be scared, timid, or hide
Claim you like a tsunami to the sea, I will rise

UserPostedImage

She is back in the hallway intrigued by the other rooms. She enters a room with Black men dressed in white face. They grab Jackson into the room.

UserPostedImage

UserPostedImage

She holds her head; she appears to be distraught in the room. The men throw money at her and Jackson face appears visibly happy. Jackson grabs the money and begins counting it while smiling. The men grab her and appear to take advantage of her. Jackson makes a cross with her fingers and the men back away, appearing to be frightened of her. They begin to look distraught as Jackson runs out of the room still holding her index fingers together in the form of a cross.

Jackson continues to walk in the hallway. A man taps her on the shoulder and offers her a cigarette. Jackson obliges and smokes.

UserPostedImage

Jackson declines to enter the room with him. But he appears to be very persuasive. However Jackson continues to walk away.

[Verse 2]

The high will help mask the aloneness
When the loud is gone, aloneness will come back to your address
Learn to love what can’t fix what you feel is not to love about you
Inner peace will then come into fruition, embrace, countdown to love and embrace

[Pre-Chorus]

1,2,3, love come down come
1,2,3, love come down come
1,2,3, love come down come
This time will be the charm
Countdown to love

Jackson continues smoking as she walks the hallway gazing into the rooms. She then hears a voice, identical to hers. The voice is downstairs. She walks down the stairs as the voice gets louder. Jackson reaches downstairs. The voice is coming from a closed door. “Enter my sister. But put that cigarette out before you do.”

Jackson appears frightened. She doesn’t know what awaits her. It is the friendliest voice she’s come across in “casa de mi vida”. The voice senses Jackson is afraid.

“I won’t hurt you. Come in my sister.”

Jackson opens the door and is shocked. It is herself as an angel like figure. Jackson runs to the figure like Whitney Houston to Kevin Costner in “The Bodyguard”. The angel [Jackson] embraces the sinner [Jackson].

UserPostedImage

[“Countdown” continues playing, and the music sounds like a climax]

[Chorus]

I will fall in love; I’ll give it another try
I’ll love on myself so much, others won’t have to touch
My joy will soar through my spirit into the atmosphere, mimic God’s holy touch
I will fall in love; I’ll give it another try

[Post Verse x2]

I won’t stay down, I won’t let negativity be my death tonight
I see the light, a new dawn has come
One that will bring a new love to my life
I won’t be scared, timid, or hide
Claim you like a tsunami to the sea, I will rise

The angel pushes Jackson, telling her to venture off. Jackson obliges. Jackson sheds her clothing and claims her love.

Her love which she sings about claiming in “Countdown” is revealed to be herself.

Jackson exits “casa de mi vida” and the sun rises.

sounds like:

It is Tisha’s wedding day!, The day that every girl dreams about since they turn the tender age of five. Tisha wakes up with the sun beaming brightly on her face. She is in her New Orleans hotel room as she stretches looking outside of her window. On the rear of her bed lays a white rose with a hand written note under in. Tisha picks up the rose and smells it.

UserPostedImage

She smiles at the refreshing scent of the rose and smiles. She picks up the notes and it reads;

Dear Tisha,

Today is our special day. See you at the altar. I’m nervous but that’s a good thing, right?

Love,
Your future husband.

Tisha smiles and throws the note and the rose back on the bed. She walks to the in front of her and looks at herself. She questions herself in her mind.

UserPostedImage

[The audience hears Tisha’s conscious speak]

Is this the man I want to spend the rest of my life with?
Do I really love him?
Does he even love me?
Do I want to start a family with him?

Tisha begins to have second thoughts but she puts those thoughts into exile and begins to prep for her big day.

UserPostedImage

It is the big event! Tisha is walking down the aisle in a French Quarter court yard. Hundreds of guests are in attendance between the bride and the groom’s family and friends. Jackson smiles as she walks down the aisle, but her eyes are a displaying apprehension. Her groom is at the altar smiling and his eyes display apprehension as well. Tisha reaches her groom. The reverend begins to speak;

Reverend: Dearly beloved we are gathered here today to wit-
Groom: Wait…
[Tisha looks confused]
Groom: Do you really want to do this? [He asks because he can sense the unsteadiness on Tisha's face]
[The guest gasp]
Tisha: No.
[Tisha runs away from her groom and the guest begin to shout]

“Someone stop her” the grooms mother yells.

Tisha runs through the court yard into the French Quarter with her hands in the air, she feels free. As she feels free she breaks down crying. In the middle of the street she falls to the ground.

[Tisha’s conscious]

What did I just do?

As she tears a hand reaches out to her. A stranger introduces himself as Dave. Dave lifts Tisha off the ground and wipes away the tears on her face. He takes her to a coffee shop where she explains to him the pressure she and her ex felt to get married. Dave drives Tisha back home, and over the course of a year they develop a relationship.

[The beginning of "Elope" begins as the beginning of a new relationship blossoms.]

[Verse 1]

Rabat, that’s where we met, you gave me Moroccan loving
Brooklyn, that’s where you first courted me
Studio apartment off of Bedford Ave, you gave me my womanhood there
I feel like getting married, let’s head uptown to the courthouse, and elope

[Chorus]

Oh, let’s get hitched, justice of the peace were heading
Uptown before evening and elope
Then head back to Brooklyn as man and wife
Have dinner at a deprecated seedy bar
Have sex in the promenade, share exotics
Go home make another meal with my clothes off
Elope with me

[Verse 2]

It’s not the fifties, yeah but you said you want me only and no other
Only twenty five, But wasn’t it you who said not to be defined by opinions of others
We don’t have a just married car or leather jacket like in the movies
We’ll take the letter C train back home, your last name I’m Mrs. That

[Chorus x2]

Oh, let’s get hitched, justice of the peace were heading
Uptown before evening and elope
Then head back to Brooklyn as man and wife
Have dinner at a deprecated seedy bar
Have sex in the promenade, share exotic
Go home make another meal with my clothes off
Elope with me

It is Tisha’s birthday and Dave decides to throw her a dinner party. At the party he proposes to her.

As the guest await her answer Tisha conscious begins to think.

[Say yes! He is the only one for you]

YES!, Tisha accepts.

Instead of her first big blow out, Dave and Tisha go to the Justice of peace and have to have their ceremony. They have a reception to celebrate their nuptials as man and wife.

"Tourist"

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Tisha is exiting her flight from JFK. She exits her terminal and a guy is running in back of her chasing her. The audience isn’t allowed to see his face. The man catches up with her.

“Miss, miss, miss”! The man is yelling.

Tisha stops in her tracks and turns around. The camera still never allows the audience to see the man.

“Miss, I was on flight 777 with you”, The man follows.

Tisha smiles. “Oh yes, hello.” She replies, still a bit startled.

The man laughs lightly. “You are absolutely beautiful I must say. I couldn’t leave without telling you that. Do you have anything planned today?”

Tisha is mesmerized by his gorgeous face and petite lips, that the audience can’t see, and also by his heavy Parisian accent.

“Not much”, Tisha replies.

“Hangout with me today, let me take you around the city.”

“What do you do"?, Tisha questions him”.

“I’m a photographer”, the Parisian replies.

“What are you in town for? Tisha asks?

“To tour”, he replies.

“We can hang”, she replies.

“Please let me film you, your absolutely flawless.” He asks.

The positions Tisha in the airport and moves backwards. The camera has still yet to reveal his face. He begins snapping photo’s .

[The intro to “Tourist” begins]

But he says I'm beautiful
Show me a real French kiss
Maybe we’ll see how things go

All alone , cruisin the streets of NY
You can feel it in the air, it's the 4th of July
Just a few friends checking up on Lady Liberty for the night
Then all of a sudden, you passed by

Oh ... my god, his cologne threw me in a trance
Our eyes locked and he asked me to dance
Don't have to ask again, kissing under fireworks feels just right
No need to ask for my hand (Forever is nothing compared to tonight)

[Intro - DJ Mustard]

Mustard on that beat ho

[Chorus]

I want it thugstyle
You know I like it thugstyle
I want it thugstyle
You know I like it thugstyle
He hits it in the morning, just how I like it
Thugstyle!

[Verse 1]

I want it thugstyle
I want a dude with a lot to prove, type aggressive when he move
Schoolboy Q bucket hat wearing, thug life tatted around bible verses
Boasting playing dice with his homies lying how we slapped the skins last night
But he gives it to me thugstyle so it’s all good
Dark Caesar having, flagging on the right side
Yelling Suwoop with the set up and down the hood
C-Lo match live from public housing
He don’t wanna charge so out he go
Gold grill grinning, mink dragging PETA grilling
Serves it rugged after catching beef in the streets
I make his beef mines when were in the sheets
When something pops off I hit him up
Ride or die, he’ll be there
Thug styled, thugsyle mentality, the thug life bastard

[Chorus]

I want it thugstyle
You know I like it thugstyle
I want it thugstyle
You know I like it thugstyle
He hits it in the morning, just how I like it
Thugstyle!

[Verse 2]

I want it thugstyle
I need a rough dude who’s clever
Ready at the drop of a dime to do whatever
Plaid boxers, no button to control the bulge
Not looking for the stereotypical mandingo
I just want dude to be in charge
Hitting, flipping, rocking, reversing, pounding
We go through all the motions, everything from slow to on mark set GO
He’d never call me a HO, he know I just like to get buck wild
He eats the dinner I serve him well, I like to taste him everything’s swell
Lighting a L, sitting in the chair, fondling with his dick hairs
He’s a bod man, a rude boy, rough n tough
Ready to snatch a brother up who he says ain’t thug enough
Cause if he’s not thug it ain’t right
And if he ain’t thug than he’s all wrong for Ms. Jack
I love the my thug, I’ve got the realest one in town
Ain’t nothing going down when my thug is around

UserPostedImage

[Chorus]

I want it thugstyle
You know I like it thugstyle
I want it thugstyle
You know I like it thugstyle
He hits it in the morning, just how I like it
Thugstyle!

[Verse 3]

I want it thugstyle
I want a man who don’t snitch like a bitch when the cops ask him to run his lips
A boss brother who doesn’t have to scape to make ends meet
Wake, bake, bathe, fuck, bathe, eat
Gotta give it to him right before he hit the streets
He’s self-made, he doesn’t beg; get that bum shit outta here
Chicks wanna give it to him quick up and down the boulevard
But I’m the only chick who makes his dick hard
Pissing in elevators, showing little respect, give it up thugstyle

UserPostedImage

[Chorus]

I want it thugstyle
You know I like it thugstyle
I want it thugstyle
You know I like it thugstyle
He hits it in the morning, just how I like it
Thugstyle! (Repeat2x)

Shake that ass

Get on the floor
Shake that ass

Attack the flow
Get on the floor

Capitalize off your youth
Or society will tell you what to do
Shake that ass
Hold that don’t drop that
Show me what you got
Who ya brought with ya?

And they mad cause I’m on top and they wish they was
They be hating on my name, but my art they love
And they mad cause I’m on top and they wish they was
They be hating on my name, but my art they love
Spread your legs
Shake your hips
Clockwise, like they whip

Spread your legs
Shake your hips
Clockwise, like they whip

Spread your legs
Shake your hips
Clockwise, like they whip

Spread your legs
Shake your hips
Clockwise, like they whip

Shake that ass
Counter clockwise like the whip
Shake that ass
Counter clockwise like the whip
Shake that ass
Counter clockwise like the whip

Since 2006 our February 2014 cover story has been shaking up the industry. However eight years later, on October 3, 2014 Princess of Pop, Tisha Jackson stopped the world when she released her eighth studio album without any warning or promotion to iTunes for digital download. ‘25’ highlights the twenty fifth year of Jackson’s in demand life. She has received universal acclaim for the album mixing almost every genre in one. In our sit down with Jackson she was candid as always, no question was off limits, no hold’s bar. We covered everything from the Superbowl Half time, to being Afro Latino, and her thoughts music today.

LATINA: We’ve been wanting you to do a cover for years! So excited to have you sit down with us. How are you?

TISHA: I’ve been wanting to be on the cover of Latina since I was like fifteen. I was waiting on the call! Finally, about time haha [Jackson jokes]. I’m well. Getting to happy.

LATINA: Define getting to happy.

TISHA: For me, personally at this point in my life it means, having creative freedom, knowing I am limitless, and accepting things that I can’t change of has transpired in the past. Normal things a twenty five year old goes through [Tisha giggles]

LATINA: Speaking of twenty five, what was that? No one saw that coming. Describe the moments five minutes before its release until it reached the world.

TISHA: It was sort of like, I’M READY! LET’S GET IT OVER! Kind of thing the last five minutes before we released it. I guess because the execution of it’s release was planned for so long, and it was well orchestrated. So at that time I was like yeah, let’s go. It was like presenting my baby for the first time. You have to understand, I love all my music, I write and produce all my music, but creatively, in terms of being a game changer I put my everything into this record. And after we just sat back, my band, my sister Estephanie, and some of the producers, we sat in my home and just watched social media go crazy.

LATINA: You spent two weeks recording the album. Would you say you spent more time in regards to its surprise release opposed to its recording?

TISHA: Definitely, I would have to say yes to that question. I wanted to do something different and with this record I did. I feel like with my last record, ‘The Highway to Redemption’, it focused on a lot of things in my past, stuff from adolescence to my teen years, to when I first got into the industry, to the space I was then and I felt emotionally drained after recording that record because I went there mentally. However, I never did an album where it just focused on where I am at life right now, and that is a twenty five year old woman who is figuring out her place in life, so I felt two weeks was all I needed to record and I got some amazing content out of it, and I don’t regret it at all because I left the studio the last day of recording feeling like I got out everything I wanted and needed to say. And with this record I wanted to show the youth that it’s cool to think out of the box, and I feel that they got it.

LATINA: Do you feel other musicians are jealous that they didn’t come up with this concept of a visual album first? Do you feel that this way of releasing music will become a trend?

UserPostedImage

TISHA: I don’t know. I can’t speak for other musicians. I will say if someone released a visual album before me I’d be pretty heated about it though. [Tisha laughs]. I also don’t know if it will become a trend but I welcome anyone who would want to try it with support and applause.

LATINA: You released your album the same day as Isabel. How do you think she felt about that?

TISHA: I’m not sure how she felt. I haven’t heard much of her since.

LATINA: People pit you two against each other in regards to women who run the music industry. Do consider her as competition?

TISHA: I don’t think I consider anything about her. Not being shady but we may be in the same industry but we are two completely different artists who do completely different things. I’d like to think of myself as an entertainer, when you see me on stage I utilize it, I perform, I couldn’t say that about people who they put me against. I don’t understand why they do that with women though.

LATINA: How do you feel about music today?

TISHA: I just feel like music has become dull in a lot of areas. Grant you I love music. I think we’ve had great music come out in 2014 but I think the lack of great music and the quality of it was below stellar. I just want to make music exciting again. Like I can remember how I felt when Janet Jackson or Britney Spears released records, I don’t think we get that feeling as often anymore. Everything is about being trendy opposed to creativity now.

LATINA: You’ve caught flack within the Latin community because they feel like you’ve chosen you’re Black side. You’ve been quoted saying “I feel like a Black woman, I look like a Black woman when I look in the mirror”. How do you respond to those critics? How do you identify yourself?

TISHA: I definitely have taken a lot of flak from the Latin community but I hear them and I understand them. I may have been quoted saying that I feel l am a Black woman but let me explain. My mother is African – American, my father is Afro-Columbian and Madrilenian. I have a good relationship with my father today; he is very present in my life today. However, growing up my father was not around. My mom and my dad dated until I was about five and then he had another family. So you have to understand, from five years old until around the age of twenty my father was in and out of the picture. While he was gone I was raised by three Black women, my mother, my grandmother, and my aunt so it was easy for me to identify as African – American because that was all I saw. Grant you my father didn’t leave when I was five and is now just coming back in my life, I can remember him sitting me down when I was four teaching me how to speak Spanish. I can remember at ten him giving me history lessons on our family and ancestors because public school didn’t give us any Latin role models. I can remember him taking me to see my family, so I was also exposed to Latin culture, just not as much as my siblings.

LATINA: Do you feel like you chose your Black side?

UserPostedImage

TISHA: When I was a teenager yes I did. But now I can say no. I identify myself as a Black Latina. I have a black mother and my father is a Black man with Latin heritage.

LATINA: Do you feel more accepted by one community over the other.

TISHA: Yes and no. Yes and no at the same time for different reasons. People think the whole Dark skinned Light skinned thing is only prevalent in the Black community but it is just as prevalent in the Latin community. My father and I are darker compared to my siblings and his other children, I have his trait for darker skin, and growing up when spending time with my Latino family it was always a topic of discussion and I didn’t quite understand why but my father went through it growing up as well. Then you have me with my African-American family and I’m one of the lighter people in my family because everyone is predominantly dark and my lightness was always a topic of discussion. And when I went out sand saw the world and toured after my first record I didn’t understand why my race or skin color was such a big deal to my family when Latino’s are of African descent, we are direct descendants of African’s but we hate to admit it, and a lot of us can and would rather pass for white. Not me!

LATINA: You’re previous tour was the highest grossing tour for a female last year, and the third highest grossing of that year racking up 217 million dollars in ticket sale. Do you plan on touring to promote this album?

TISHA: I would like to.

LATINA: Do you love touring?

TISHA: I really do! I had to come to grips with accepting the fact I love to tour because when I’m touring I complain about how much I hate it or how exhausting it is but when I’m done with the tour I miss being on the road so much. I love it because it keeps me busy and out of trouble.

LATINA: Rapper Drew Westbrook made a feature on your first single off “25” ‘Rehab’ and is featured in the album booklet a lot. Are you dating?

TISHA: To answer your question honestly, I would have to say I don’t know [Tisha giggles loudly].

LATINA: How don’t you know if you’re dating someone? [Laughs loudly].

Tisha: [giggles] You just don’t [giggles]. There are some days I feel like we’re dating and some days I don’t and it’s kind of confusing.

LATINA: Why do you feel that way?

TISHA: We live very busy lives. I’m out promoting my new record. He’s working on his debut. It’s difficult to schedule time. And on top of that I was in jail for a month so I didn’t get to see him.

LATINA: He didn’t visit you?

TISHA: He tried. Drew and a bunch of my family members tried and actually showed up for visits on the days we could get them but I never came out my cell to see them because I didn’t want them to see me at such a weak and fragile state.

LATINA: So you ignored them?

TISHA: Yes. They understood why though.

LATINA: What do you think jail did to you?

UserPostedImage

TISHA: While I was in there it made me feel trapped. They had to take me under doctor’s care a couple of times because I blacked out in there. It just wasn’t a good time. I didn’t understand why myself or my bodyguards have to serve time for being attacked with a gun.

LATINA: What can you say about the events that took place this past October. We know you can’t say a lot because its being handled legally.

TISHA: I will just say this. The media is making it into a color thing. It kind of is one but that isn’t the big picture. No person, male or female of any race or sexual orientation should be put behind bars for defending themselves when they have a gun pointing at them. I will not rest until justice is served for Darren, Superman, and myself.

LATINA: Switching gears back to Drew. You recently tweeted you “wanted him to make you his wife” last month. Is that true?

TISHA: Yes it is.

LATINA: Do you love him?

TISHA: Yes I do.

LATINA: Why marriage at such a young age?

TISHA: Okay here is the deal. Every woman specifically women of color are scared of this one word, that word is, feminism. Today’s society feels like marriage isn’t necessary for a woman. And that is very true but I don’t want women judging me and saying I am any less of a feminist than I already am because I aspire to marriage. I want my future husband to aspire to marriage just as much as I do. It’s nothing like coming home from work and my man being there waiting on me, it’s nothing like him getting out of the studio late and me crawling up in bed after him and holding him. I want that. I love that. However, what women specifically the bitter ones who call themselves feminist but rips girls like me apart for actually continuing the spark of our forever going movement will not do! Is be reductive towards all that I have done for the advancement and freedom of my gender.

LATINA: Do you feel it’s more difficult as a Latina (woman of color) to be labeled a feminist?

TISHA: Hell yeah it is, when Madonna gets out and shows her naked body society eats that shit up but when women of color do it, we are called whores and aren’t called feminist. A feminist is someone who is so free with her might that she not only can demonstrate that freedom with her intellect but her mind as well. I practice that for myself and the girls that follow me.

erica:interesting as always. i myself never identify or have anything to do with feminism. i do what i do,because its what i like to do. i detest when people say the harlots are a good band of girls. why the add on of girls or women? i want to be seen as a good band. nobody sees a band of guys and says "oh,thats a good all male band." it just pisses me off greatly. that,or defining me by what genitals i prefer to play with. truth be told,i like both. but i happen to love a woman. though i am interested in the subject of race,i am lucky enough (i guess) to be born of an accepted race in america. aside from people thinking i am A: really smart. B:a sexual deviant C: a martial arts master? i am fairly well ignored.

“ferriswheel” is a song recorded by Tisha Jackson for her eighth studio album, 25. “ferriswheel” was written and produced by Tisha Jackson, Terius “The Dream” Nash, Childish Gambino, and DJ Mustard. “ferriswheel” theme focuses on young love. The track also serves as the closing cut on, 25.

Background/Conception/Composition

While recording 25, Jackson’s prime goal for the album to reflect her summer, to be a diary of the entertainer’s summer. In summer 2014, Jackson began her romance with, Hip-Hop artist, Drew Westbrook. Westbrook serves as the theme behind, “ferriswheel”.
“ferriswheel” is used as the title to serve as a metaphor for life, Jackson’s life specifically. In real life, Ferris wheel’s take you in a circle, off the ground, in the sky, around and around, Jackson, titled, the track “feerishweel” to express how being in love can feel the same. The song is styled as “ferriswheel” to represent a union of words metaphorically being a union of two people.

“ferriswheel” was the final song recorded of thirty tracks for the 25 album. Jackson recorded the track in New York City at Jungle studios. Originally she met Drew Westbrook through her label, FREEDOM, when he was sent over to send material for her 25, album. Westbrook’s material didn’t make the album, but a song dedicated in his honor did.
Jackson wanted “ferriswheel” to be a collaborative effort. Jackson wrote her verses, but the track works as a story that infuses details from each of the producers personal lives. “ferriswheel” in a form is a depiction of a young couple’s love life and things young couples deal with in society today like, social media pressure,
“On Instagram I stay on the following page
Tagged in a pic on your homeboys page
Three P.Y.T’s next to you”

“ferriswheel” is a futuristic track, that features high amounts of synthesizers and bass predominantly.

Song Description

“ferriswheel” is a collection of stories that are based on actual events that occurred between the singer and her boyfriend this summer. In the chorus of the track, Jackson sings,
“Fuck it I’m gonna stick with you
Say good bye to these Instagram famous bitches
You gotta superstar for life
Hold up”

Jackson is acknowledging that she is young and can have anyone she wants and he the same, however, she’s rather be with him because he’s all she cares about.

Quote:
Jackson on “ferriswheel”
“This track is definitely a love story, I feel. I basically sat down one night in New York after getting back from Paris. I had thought I was finished recording the album, but I felt like I still had something to say. I began to realize I was writing an album about my summer, and I’ve gotten the chance to meet one of the most intellectual people of my life this summer, and I haven’t written a song about him.

So I just started writing about a bunch of things I love and disliked so far. It was like a bunch of stories I had, of high and low moments Drew and I had over the past month written in one. I went to The Dream with the demo, he worked on it. Next thing you know, Mustard was helping and called in Childish Gambino. Then Mustard and Dream mastered the track. The track’s message is to give love a real shot when you think you’ve found a person worth it to give it a shot with.”

"ferriswheel"

sounds like:

[Chorus]
Some days I can’t help but fuck with you
Other days I can’t be next to you
But when I’m alone, I realize I’d rather be with you
Fuck it I’m gonna stick with you
Say good bye to these Instagram famous bitches
You gotta superstar for life
Hold up (2x)

[Verse 1]

Hold up, we were geeking to the fugees at my house last week ago
Smoking loud in the couch, after you come home from the studio
Angies, on 105.1, begging Drake to take the interlude off the “0 to 100” song
Last week you were so sweet, Now you’re a jerk this week
Told you to come over to get some ill na na
You say no you’ll sleep in you feel sick
On Instagram I stay on the following page
Tagged in a pic on your homeboys page
Three P.Y.T’s next to you
I’m gonna roll some loud, go to the studio and spit some fire
Write an album about you
I’ll just call up my ex
Posted a few pics with him to flex
Nigga I’m ignoring your text
I know in the morning you’ll say smooth shit
And I’m gonna take your back, Hold up

[Chorus]

Some days I can’t help but fuck with you
Other days I can’t be next to you
But when I’m alone, I realize I’d rather be with you
Fuck it I’m gonna stick with you
Say good bye to these Instagram famous bitches
You gotta superstar for life
Hold up (2x)

[Verse 2]

I use to be a people pleaser
But now I don’t give a fuck about what people think or ever thought
So I took you back last Sunday, after partying at 1 oak
Too drunk to come that night
That morning you were in my house and you cooked me breakfast
You nursed me back to health, then I rode you thanking you
I spend days wondering why you want me
Your Prince charming I’m the girl next door who lost her way
You don’t have to beg me to stay
You know the real tea on Ti
You know I’m not the ticking time bomb portrayed of me on the TV
Up down round and round we go like a Ferris wheel
You love and crush my heart, I don’t have time to heal
I may have lost my mental the day that I met you
But no one is perfect, like Big Sean I am worth it
Hold up

[Chorus]

Some days I can’t help but fuck with you
Other days I can’t be next to you
But when I’m alone, I realize I’d rather be with you
Fuck it I’m gonna stick with you
Say good bye to these Instagram famous bitches
You gotta superstar for life
Hold up (2x)

[Extended Outro/Dedication to Drew Westbrook]

Babe
Fail attempts to stunt on us to make themselves feel better
Babe, why they trying to hate on some real niggas
But I’m from Bed-Stuy and fam in South west Atlanta where they kill niggas
You can be in a coma and I’ll stay with you
I thought I told you on the ferriswheel you a supastar for life
My supastar in my life, you better make me ya wife
I’m a greater singer but I’m still the illest rapper alive
Daddy Drew murder everything thing he touch
I sit back and want to die
It’s just Black excellence
They wanna shove there rules down my throat
But nigga my balls are bigger
I swear why they so sensitive
Is it because my skills are limitless
They trying to take me out the game because I’m telling the truth
But if I go out like Pac, Biggie, MJ, or Whitney
My legacy will be all I’ve built with you Drew
