Sounds Like: Chris Brown - Oh My Love'In Your Head' Is the new single by Elyar Black and is the third single to be lifted from his debut studio album titled 'Elyar' the track has a sexual theme but is no were near as extreme as some of the other material on the young mans album, the song was written by Elyar and was one of the first tracks that he wrote for the album, the lyrics are based around sex and how a couple battle for pleasure and giving into sex, the track was produced by Dr.Luke and Cirkut at Dr.Luke studio in California, The song has a total length of three minutes and forty-five seconds, making it one of the longer tracks on the album.
The song starts with Elyar singing very softly and gentle as he begins to sing the opening of the song, the beat then swiftly picks up right after he finished singing, he then begins to rap the first bridge of the song rapping is not something Elyar has ever showcased before although his website states that he can but he was nervous at first to rap in this song, after he finishes rapping the beat once again slows down as he begins to sing the first verse once again singing in a soft and gentle tone after he finishes singing the first verse the beat once again changes to a more R&B sound as Elyar begins to sing the chorus of the song in a more sexual and seductive way rather than the soft and gentle tone that he sang with the opening of the song and the first verse, the beat then changes again to the more uptempo beat as Elyar again begins to rap the second bridge this time adding slightly a flirty tone to his voice, after finishing the bridge the beat once and slows down as he then sings the second chorus again with the soft and gentle tone again this time Elyar agaon takes a page from his brothers book as he adds some rifts and trills onto the ends of words which is something that his brother Adam usually does, he then begins to sing the second verse this time however he sings it with a more flirty and sexual tone rather than using the soft and gentle tone like he had done in the previous verse and chorus, the beat then changes again to the more R&B sound as Elyar once again begins to the the second chorus again with a sexual and seductive tone, he again adds trills and rifts to the end of certain words he the repeats the chorus again this time however he sings with a more aggressive tone to emphasise the mood of the song, the song then ends after a short instrumental section.
CRITICAL RECEPTIONNick Levine of Digital Spy gave the song a two star rating, calling it a "fairly unremarkable R&B jam" while commenting that "The only excitement comes in guessing whether the semi-titillating lyrics offer any clues about Elyar's bedroom antics." Sal Cinquemani of Slant Magazine linked "In Your Head" to musical compositions by American singer-songwriter Prince, commenting that they "lack the provocative, industrious quality that made him more than simply a good musician and producer." Allison Stewart of The Washington Post wrote about the song's lyrical content, noting it as "one of many examples of junior varsity in a new sex crazed world. Mia Monrose of Vibe said that on "In Your Head" Elyar deems a streetwise lothario."
Greg Kot of Chicago Tribune gave the song a positive review, calling it a "club banger". Thomas Gonlianpoulous of Spin commended Dr Luke's' "production", Elyar's engetic rap as well as his "joyful, brisk vocals." Dan Gennoe of Yahoo! Music UK said the song, serving as the third single, says "Elyar promise for the future is to be an altogether more interesting kind of R&B artist." Leah Greenblatt of Entertainment Weekly referred to the song as a "decent single". Jon Caramanica of The New York Times referred to the song as a type that he has made his specialty, and called it an "electric, brassy track". Neveill Jackson called the song "a brutal, tuneless chunk of industrial R&B - just as ugly as his previous single 'My Girl", Debbie Doolittle of MTV said that "no matter whag this track rocks", commenting "Whatever you may think of him or his family, you can't deny that Elyar Black lacks balls." Jude Rogers of BBC Music the song was catchy, but was one of the album's tracks that should of not got single release.
Joanne Dorken of MTV UK wrote that the song was "a good platform for Elyar to show off his silky-smooth vocals". Hannah Nash of The Harber Herald called it "a great rap track" with "fantastic beats". Mark Edward Nero of About.com wrote that "In Your Head" is one of "the album's best material". A reviewer for Girlfriend magazine wrote that "In Your Head" was like mixing Austin Nimmo with a sex crazed pretty boy rapper, resulting in a god awful song", they also said thay his previous two singles were the only tracks on the album "worth listening to". Mesfin Fekadu of the Associated Press labeled "In Your Head as one of the "best songs" of 2015 so far, while August Brown of Los Angeles Times called it his "favorite single" of 2015 so far behind Austin Nimmo's new single"! According to Steve Jones of USA Today, the song shows that "Elyar is taking it to the next phase". Sean Fennessey of The Washington Post characterised "In Your Head" as the effervescent kiss-off" track. Shahryar Rizvi of Dallas Observer was critical of the song, writing that it "sounds minimally produced and quiet. As a result, it sounds kind of boring overall and very bland"
Amar Toor of AOL Radio called the song "dance-friendly", and wrote "with its electro-vibe and pulse, 'In Your Head' sounds like the perfect club banging anthem to get any night off to a raucous start." Ed Easton Jr. of radio station WNOW-FM noted the song's similarities to Elyar's debut single "Heart Of Steal", writing that "it has that fun and simple lyrical flow and puts more emphasis on the dance beat." He also called the song "a big, loud and banging dance track" that would keep Elyar rising back to the top. Megan Vick of Billboard magazine added that "Elyar's short career has had its share of twists and turns, but 'In Your Head' proves the young man can still turn out a speaker-bumping track that will be played in years to come." Bri LaPelusa of UR Chicago called it a "true party anthem" due to the chorus having a bashful beat that would make anyone wanna get up and move, regardless of who you are or weather you like him or not". Tom Howard of Yahoo! Music called it a "clubby summer tune, that will set clubs alight" Marty Roberts wrote that "it's a great song, full of party-riffic electronic beats made for dancing and even a hard hitting rap which is impressive."
