Name: Henry Thurston Johanson
Date of Birth: 28 February 1993 (22)
Hometown: Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada
Genre: Folk, Singer-songwriter
Label: Independent

Biography:

Henry Johanson was born in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada to primary school teacher, Ellen Johanson, who also kept her maiden name. His father is lawyer, Grant Muller who introduced Henry to folk music at an early age. Before Henry began his primary schooling, his family moved to Kelowna, British Columbia where Henry spent the next twelve years in school. As a kid, Henry kept to himself a lot, only have two other friends and he was generally the target of elementary school teasing for his introversion which only triggered more social anxiety. When he was nine, a neighborhood coffee shop opened up a block away from his house where he gained his first exposure to live music. From then on, he knew that he was destined to become a musician. At age ten, he was given his first guitar as a gift from his grandparents and would spend hours in his room practicing, but he just couldn't grasp it and out of frustration, he quit playing. Two years later his parents paid for guitar lessons and he finally made the connection on how to play.

Henry played his first gig at the same coffee shop where he first heard live music, he recalls being incredibly nervous almost to a point where he couldn't play. He played four short songs and halfway through he realized, that this was what he was born to do; and at the moment, an instinct kicked in, he became loose and smiley and before he knew it he was done and he almost couldn't believe it. He had to do more shows. So every weekend, he would visit local bars and partake in open mic nights. He was spotted by a local recorder and offered to record a demo for free. Henry took up this offer and began recording. Henry began to receive local popularity and he moved to Vancouver to become noticed. He recorded his first single "Tonight, Forever" in his apartment, which will be released April 5th, 2015.

Title: Tonight, Forever
Label: Independent
Genre: Folk/Singer-Songwriter
Written by: Henry Johanson
Produced by: Henry Johanson
Release dates: Streaming date (4/4/15) Digital Download (4/5/15)

About The Single:
"Tonight, Forever" is the debut single from Canadian singer songwriter, Henry Johanson. The song was written and produced by Johanson when he was 19 years old. The song's lyrics are about vague memories Johanson has about his early childhood growing up in Ontario. The title is something his mother would tell him when he was scared at night. She would tell him "Tonight, I'll love you forever." It's shortened to "Tonight, Forever" to fit the song. The second to last verse is another thing his mother would tell him at night. The song is meant to embody the fogged memories of childhood and the sentiment shared between mother and child.

The song starts out with a soothing guitar chord progression and then Henry's vocals come in. His voice is trembling a little bit, he has a deep voice that gives the song a sentimental feel. After the first two verses, it goes to an instrumental break with piano. Henry's vocals come in again with a new set of lyrics about a story he heard as a child. After the third verse, a technical guitar riff comes in that copies the vocal part of the song. The song goes into the bridge which has backup vocalists doing "Ahs." It then does a coda to the beginning but at the end, he repeats "She won't be sleeping" and the song ends on a guitar chord.

Final comments:

"This song to me, embodies every childhood memory that I've tried to hold onto; but it's mostly about my mother; it's about every "I love you" we've exchanged, it's about every time she was there for me and every time she supported me. Without my mother, I'd never be the man I am today, she taught me how to love things and I thank her so much for everything she's done for me. Thats what this song means to me, I'm terrible with emotions but this one hits closest to home. So please, make sure you tell your mother you love her because you owe her some way or another." - Henry Johanson

Lyrics:

My mother paces nervously
It's noon again
The sun shines like her eyes
She won't be sleeping
Tonight, tonight, tonight

I've been watching you
Since you were small
You've finally caught me but keep it between us
Forever, and ever, Forever, and ever.
Forever, and ever, Forever, and ever.

And some say the earth is dying
But I feel its heartbeat
And some blame it on the weather
We will not know
Until, we die, until we die
I will we, stay up, tonight, and forever

If I am alone in the darkness
Then you are my lantern
A circle of light on the ground
To help me find home
Tonight, tonight, tonight, tonight
Forever, and ever, forever, and ever
Tonight, tonight, tonight, tonight
Forever, and ever, forever, and ever

My mother paces nervously
It's noon again
The sun shines like her eyes
She won't be sleeping
She won't be sleeping
She won't be sleeping

Sam: There's somethin' to be said about manly men like us that aren't afraid to write folk songs about our mom's, right? And then we sit down and drink a six pack and watch football, or whatever manly men - like we obviously are - are supposed to do. Touchdown! Or something. Great job, man. Lookin' forward to seein' more of you.

Henry: That's true! Music, folk in particular, is suppose to channel your inner emotions; and I think in this day and age, we men are afraid to admit our feelings because it's not the macho thing to do. Sometimes, you need to slow down, and realize how you feel inside, and I think that's what most of my music is about too.

Jade: "So please, make sure you tell your mother you love her because you owe her some way or another." My heart just leaped, so beautiful!

Mia: Jade is just crying away at how great this song. Fortunately, I can pull myself together. Nice to officially meet you Mr. Henry, and what a great way to start off with such a sweet song. My sister and I are daddy's girls but not in the "we're assholes" kind of way so I can relate. I love the lyrics and the simplicity of the production.
