Kick It is a song by the Korean girl group Mi•Mi recorded for their second studio album, He Say She Say. It was co-written by the rapper of the girl group Mi Kyung Lee with Nina Tarantino who also recorded and produced the track at Out of This World Studios in Los Angeles. It premiered on US radio on August 2nd, 2015, and was made available to download digitally globally on August 3rd, 2015. Musically, Kick It is a mid-tempo K-pop and reggae song, which incorporates elements of electropop, EDM and dancehall. A song about seeing an attractive person in a club and immediately engaging, it features an EDM beat drop that builds up from the hook. It garnered positive reviews from music critics, many of whom complimented the Caribbean tone, calling it yet another diverse track from the versatile girl group's critically acclaimed #1 album. To promote the song, an accompanying music video was shot on the set of a high school and field in London, directed and choreographed by Airemese Smith.
Once again Miki takes the lead in yet another one of Mi•Mi's singles. It seems even though Misu is the lead singer of the group, Miki and her knack for writing catchy upbeat songs with vocals that are easy to digest always gives her takes from the album an upper-hand at being sent straight to radio. Though her presence in this particular song doesn't exactly make for vocals, s t could easily be described as very melodic rapping. Which when put into perspective, it actually is, the witty verses where she takes charge being full of alliterations, consonances, and assonances, not even to mention the references. The only time anything in the song gets vocally exciting is when Misu comes in to take on the parts of the verses that require more of an actual vocal presence, as she briefly swoops in to serve a stronger delivery for the first verse and then again in he second verse, giving a lighter more sultry performance in a higher register. And of course Misu completely takes over he song when he bridge comes in. While Miki spends the middle eight breaking down the pre-hook, Misu emerges from the background and completely overshadows Miki, belting with a B4/C#5 slide. Mae Na and Dae Na do not have any solos in his single but their presence isn't exactly nonexistent. he whole group sings as a whole during he pre-hook and thanks to Mae Na's and Dae Na's contrast to Miki and Misu and their difference in range, the parts sung in unison comes in strong and inviting to singalongs.
