Genre: Electronic

Pop superstar
Vanity returns with the second single to be lifted from her upcoming twelfth studio album, titled “Hallucinate”. The release follows the album’s lead single “Eyelids”, which premiered back in July and reached the summit of both the Digital and Airplay charts, after a memorable, bloody performance of the track at the latest Fan Choice Awards. The song was well-received by critics on release and Vanity was praised for her creative songwriting, her evolution as an artist and the riskier sound she had opted for. In comparison, “Hallucinate” features many of those same qualities, featuring trippy lyrics and a hard-hitting electronic beat, though it has to be noted that it’s musically much more radio-friendly than Vanity’s previous release, and has heavy pop influences within its sound unlike “Eyelids”.
Although we’re able to pick out similarities within the two singles, it’s important to stress that these songs are absolutely their own identities and bring something completely new to Vanity’s discography. “Hallucinate” in particular features sounds that have never been heard on a song by the pop singer before, such as the notable Arabic guitars in the track and African vocal samples that are heard in the background, providing an atmospheric, eerie sound to the track. Though with the modern day electronic influences evidently heard within the beat, it’s likely to go down well with some of Vanity’s older fans who have supported the singer since her more pop-oriented days.
Speaking of the new single, Vanity states, “This song is a chance for me to let my hair down and really showcase a more flirty, fun side to me on the new album, while still maintaining that darkness and mystery you heard in the first single. The last album was so focused on a particular topic and sound, so I wanted to do the complete opposite this time round and make a true variety. I wanted a collection of songs that would cover many lyrical themes, each having its own sound, but still working together like a team to form a real consistent record. “Hallucinate” is really otherworldly in the sense that it feels like you’ve taken some heavy drugs the moment you hear it… the sound, the lyrics, it really takes you to a sleazy, trippy underground club where you have no idea what’s happening, but you go along with it anyway. It’s all about the temptation, giving into a craving that may be frowned upon.”
Vanity’s twelfth studio album is scheduled for release this December, with more details following shortly.
"Hallucinate"Sounds like:
Tattooed strippers in Cinderella slippers
Don't you know? Woah, oh
There's more than meets the eye
Just like a Christian girl spills all her vodka and lies
Just like the truth buries deep behind a victim's eyes
I take substances that block out my mind's cries
My heart rattles like an earthquake
Don't tell me to wait, don't tell me to wait
There's nothing I can do, nothing I can do
My mind melts into oblivion
It's all at stake, it's all to take
Don't tell me to wait, don't tell me to wait
There's nothing I can do, nothing I can do, ooh
One special concoction, you're yelling caution
I watch the chains break, now I'm wide awake
Technicolour vision, I have no solution
It's toxic, but it may just be the greatest mistake
Cause I slip into a dream when I hallucinate
Cause I slip into a dream when I hallucinateInnocent eyes with an Amsterdam style
Just call me glamorous garbage
A wench in leather or a lady at your leisure
Come and pierce me with your kiss
Taste what's been on my tongue
I'll get you high off my love
Gimme something to get me elevated
Wait for it to sink deep, deep into my system
I don't need to be evaluated
Just let my body move, move to the rhythm
My heart rattles like an earthquake
Don't tell me to wait, don't tell me to wait
There's nothing I can do, nothing I can do
My mind melts into oblivion
It's all at stake, it's all to take
Don't tell me to wait, don't tell me to wait
There's nothing I can do, nothing I can do, ooh
One special concoction, you're yelling caution
I watch the chains break, now I'm wide awake
Technicolour vision, I have no solution
It's toxic, but it may just be the greatest mistake
Cause I slip into a dream when I hallucinate
Cause I slip into a dream when I hallucinateFill the void with a taste of something holy
You could be lonely or my one and only
And we can get so out of control
I'll unleash what I've been hiding deep in my soul
I think you've been waiting, waiting for the call
Waiting for me to bare it all
Don't tell me to wait, don't tell me to wait
There's nothing I can do, nothing I can do
Don't tell me to wait, don't tell me to wait
There's nothing I can do, nothing I can do, ooh
One special concoction, you're yelling caution
I watch the chains break, now I'm wide awake
Technicolour vision, I have no solution
It's toxic, but it may just be the greatest mistake
Cause I slip into a dream when I hallucinate
Cause I slip into a dream when I hallucinate
