It's a great idea but there is a mayor problem with this. There are too many genres. Not only will this slow down the chart update, there are not enough players to make genre charts and the genre's available are too broad. Unless we have like 5-8 mayor genre's were other sub-genre's fall into.

Pop (Techno, Disco, Electronica, R&B)
Rock (Punk Rock, Emo,
Metal (Heavy Metal, Avant Garde etc.)
Classical

and on.....

Genre charts must be complicated if you want to satisfy and be fair to everyone (so in order to get it done it takes a lot of thinking and organizing) and I guess Carl doesn't have to do that.

Also it would be awesome if we were to have different sale #'s by the region, for example, it would make more sense if a popular artist sells 1-2 million singles in just that region instead of the typical 400,000. It would make more sense if you sold 35,000 in total in New Zealand and Australia. <---that's to be more realistic but that's just an option.

It would be cool if the game also had a certification system within itself based on sales in each region.

Not only that
it would be cool if we could have an automatic updated overall discography page. Where all your artist/band's albums, singles, EP's sales with the certifications are seen. It would make things much cooler.

I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who has thought of this but I guess its pointless sharing these ideas when they are never going to happen.

I guess we could make a breakdown of the World's charts and maybe even region charts, lets say someone takes the top 40 from the world and make top 3 from several major genres (as you said pop, rock, metal, jazz, classical, etc.), I dont quite understand your 2nd idea, and I think the RP certification you made is good enough.

Now, I am not entirely sure how long it takes to update, the last time I played it it took a few hours over night, but with Music Maven who has 59 genres (yes, 59!) you can check the best selling albums/singles for the previous month for all genres.

But not every sub genre falls into the Pop, Rock, Metal. It's possible to do but it's like I said it requires proper organization and Carl apparently does not have time to sit and figure this out himself (which I totally understand).

and also

I'm talking about certification within the game, even though my certification system is acceptable, it's annoying to worry about changing your certification status all the time and keeping it all in record. If the game did it for us, it would be great. Not only that a discography page (like the one from Wikipedia) looks really nice and it looks very organized. I'm pretty sure that's not hard to make.

To tell you the truth this is all input in to how more awesome this game will be with this stuff, I don't mind how the game is right now trust me I'm good with what it offers.

That's why I hate it, my artist singles would stay in the top 10 for months(years) and thats not realistic. And they have wayyyy more users than we have.

I changed my mind about music maven, it is the worst game ever. You can only choose 8 tracks for an album and its probably the worst music based game ever. And its not just about being realistic is about having a balance. And Music Maven is sooooo unrealistic.

what I'm saying is that we could have a small chart in roleplay for every major genre, and for subgenres that dont fit anywhere (I dont think there is any) we could make a 'Others' section, I dont think it would require more than 15 minutes a day to open the top 40 artist pages, we will just need to make a basic separation of genres.

In fact, here's a quick one:

Alternative
Garage
Goth
Grunge
Indie
Lo-fi
Punk
Rock

Experimental
Avant Garde
New Age
New Wave

Jazz
Blues
Folk
Soul

Reggae
Funk
Ska

Pop
Country
Disco
Emo
R&B

Electronica
Drums and Bass
House
Jungle
Techno
Trance

Heavy Metal
Industrial
Thrash

Hip Hop
Rap

It is practically a heresy on some genres but it could work as a basis

I agree/disagree big time with that arrangement.

Alternative <----(Very Different things)
Garage
Goth
Grunge
Indie (What is this even on here Rock is popular and this isn't)
Lo-fi
Punk
Rock <---- ( very Different things)

Experimental
Avant Garde (It's part of experimental but its a sub-genre of Heavy metal)
New Age
New Wave

Jazz
Blues
Folk
Soul <---NO!

Reggae
Funk (What is this doing here??? this can go with Pop, R&B, Hip-Hop and thats the problem)
Ska

Pop
Country <-- (What is this doing here??)
Disco (This should be with Electronica)
Emo (What?????)
R&B <---(What is this doing here???)

Electronica
Drums and Bass (I don't even consider this a sub-genre)
House
Jungle
Techno
Trance

Heavy Metal
Industrial
Thrash

Hip Hop
Rap

You see the problem, its very hard to classify these.

No, it's not a sub-genre of Heavy Metal. Look it up.

As far as all those things you said - I think genre charts would be a good idea. There would probably be enough to fill the charts, as when the game was at it's prime last time there were thousands of bands.

My bad I thought it was from background knowledge.

I never said it wasn't a good idea I just said that it takes a lot of thought and organization. And that too, there isn't enough players.

I don't agree with this. Why? Because there are so many different genres out there, it's hard to classify. It'll also be more trouble than it's worth - even if a full, thorough set has been set up, there'll always be someone complaining "why isn't there a chart for [insert genre here]?"
I say scrap the genre thing in the settings section altogether, or make it a box you can type in rather than a dropdown selection.

I don't see what the big problem is, it's quite simple, just have basic terms like four or five and encompass lots of different genres in it. I personally think it would be a nice addition, the only problem would be is when people start being morons and say like 'oh why isn't screamo-post-hardcore-metal-garde in it' and just come up with the latest metal offshoot which really is just being an annoying douche.

Yeah, and you know what would be cooler? if they had awards. like counter parts for the Grammys,VMAs,NME Awards, etc.
Like best Rock Album, Best Solo Artist, etc. people would sign up then carl would start choosing a number of worthy people to be nominated, and at the end, we would all vote..

No offence, but Carl barely has time to fix basic bugs, let alone pick out bands. If you want awards, best get into Roleplay and enjoy the IMAs, HTCAs, LMFAs, et ceteri.
