Album Background and Composition

MATRIMONY is the highly anticipated third studio album by Cassie Valentine. The album will be released on February 28th, 2016 via Cassie's current label, FREEDOM records. The album features production from Will Rocca, Deneil Khan, Boots, DJ Camper, D'AngeloThe Wolverines, T-Collar, Rico Love, Detail, Jerome 'J-Roc Harmon, Naughty Boi, Shea Taylor, Boi-1da, Kuk Harrell as they worked alongside Cassie who took on the executive producer duties of the album as she wanted to be vital in creating the initial idea and sound of this unique album. Although always an important influence on how her music is created, this is the first time Cassie has taken on an executive producer duty solely for her album and most of the albums ideas have derived right from Cassie. In many ways Matrimony is looked at as an conceptual album about marriage as said by Valentine herself below.

There is a general 'concept' that ranges throughout the album to tell an initial story of Matrimony; it's ups and downs and eventual downfall with important details in between. This story is aided by song types that include powerful ballads, sensual odes and big anthems (and more) that all serve a purpose in the bigger picture of the story created called Matrimony. When listening to the songs chronologically, the track-list was specifically chosen and created to follow one another to tell the story in a sequential order diminishing the 'album filler' theory with Cassie's new album. Each of the 15 songs on the tracklist is a difference piece of the whole concept of Matrimony. The album itself includes 13 tracks and two interludes. The two interludes on the album are both important in the albums two halves and was a big decision made Cassie to include. Interludes seem to be used rarely to ever used anymore, but Cassie made the official decision having two interludes on the album to point out two important intervals in the album that helps the listener have better understand of what is going on in the story and sets them up for the next tracks as well as introducing short intervening periods of music to help symbolize Matrimony. Matrimony also features song collaborations from Will Rocca, Drew Westbrook, Kidd Amaze, Dominic Brown, Isaac Lovelock and The Wolverines. The album also ranges through the genres of R&B, Neo-Soul and some influences of Pop and Disco.

Cassie spent the early months of 2014 touring on the critically acclaimed "Love & War Tour" in support of her previous number one album "Love & War" which was released in December of 2013, when the tour folded in April of '14, Cassie took a few weeks off to rest and then jumped right back into the studio to record the follow up to the album. Quieting down to focus solely on the album, Cassie entered the studio wanting to create a body of work that would signify her growth as a woman. In her opinion, her previous album was rather safe and she didn't really get a chance to let loose the way she wanted to due to the rush for the album to come out following all the push-backs and mishaps surrounding the album's release.

On the new record, Cassie wanted to broaden her spectrum sound wise, even if that meant pushing past her usual R&B sounds and to experiment with different sounds. In 2015 after being contacted to do a song for The Wolverine's "Another Lonely Night", Cassie brought in the production duo to record the disco infused "Totaled" which is different then Cassie has done sound wise, but still ties it very well with the other songs. For months following the official announcement of the beginning of the recording of the alum in mid 2014, Months would past on by and not much was heard from Cassie aside from a few pop ins on twitter reminding her fans that she was in the studio recording the new album. This, of course got her fans anticipated for some new music and that surely did come after that summer. She felt it was the least she could do as her fans waited so long for the second album.

In September, Cassie began promoting a record entitled "Choke" that would be leading single taken from her, at the time - soon to be titled third studio album. The record was also rumored to feature special guests, that even wet the appetite of her fans even more just wondering who those guests could be. Cassie also explained that it would be her most racy and "free" record of her career and was the perfect way to set the fans up for the album. A few more weeks went along and the artwork for Choke was posted, and the featured guest were unveiled to be rap star Kidd Amaze and R&B star Dominic Brown."Choke" was released on October 5th and was met with a critical acclaim complimenting the appearances of Kidd Amaze and Dominic Brown as well as Cassie's presence and big vocals. Aside from that, the track was also met with controversy pertaining to the message of the song, with many looking at the record as being massively sexual and inappropriate with its sexual innuendo and questionable double entendre of the word "Choke". Still, the song became a massive success topping the Airplay Charts and then the Digital Charts top 20 for two weeks and certified itself as Cassie's most successful single to date. A titled previously held by her single "Single (Go)" released in 2013. Choke ties in very well with Matrimony because it solidifies the sexual aspects of a relationships and actual Matrimony and the song continues to be an important track on the album.

Quote:
I was so inspired by the idea of an actual concept album for Matrimony. It's like...for a while I had to sit down and figure out where I wanted to go for the new record and how I could tell a story that people can relate to while still making it fresh, and making it me, Cassie. I wanted to try something unique and give the album a true purpose and I felt as if I used some imagination and mixed it in with my life experiences to create a bigger picture of my idea of matrimony through music....it could be super dope and people would like it and be able to relate with it ya know? Writing for the album was really long but but in many ways fun because I took time to carefully plan out where I was going lyrically. Just to keep it real for second, when talking about relationships, heartbreak and love its easy to sound like a broken record ....and that wasn't going to happen with this body of work. With Matrimony, there's a rang of different sounds and lyrical topics that keeps the songs fresh and in many ways...dynamic. I owe that in part to some of my amazing producers that have helped me create this album! I want to personally thank them for working with me, everyone. There were some great vibes in the studio when recording Matrimony. People like my great friend Will Rocca and of course Kuk Harrell....Jermone...Boots...I even got to work with Deneil for the first time which is seriously just an honor! He made me some crazy beats. Also worked with The Wolverines on two tracks. After I did Another Lonely Night, I felt like it just wasn't enough. Also recorded in New York with D'Angelo who did Hungry Heart...seriously a dream come true. Detail of course is amazing as if Boy Wonda. Hope I'm not forgetting anyone wait... oh my god oh T-Collar he produced Changes on the album which I loveee and Shea Taylor and last but not least Naughty Boy! Got to record with him really recently actually when I out in Britain, extremely talented! But everyone was so so easy to work with and very cooperative. So many good vibes. But yeah, when you listen to the album have an open mind and put thought behind every song, don't just listen for the beats. Listen for the lyrics...listen for the musical experience of love, of sensuality, betrayal, infidelity. There's just so much that the album has to offer from start to finish. I dug deep to keep things from being dull. On the album I have some great features too. I have Kidd Amaze on not one but two songs on the album. I think we sound great together on record, the way he raps and the way I sing just blends very well. I entered the studio with Drew Westbrook just a few weeks ago where we cut one of the last songs recorded for the album which is "Hurt"! He was so easy to work with and he's genuinely a super cool guy, Hurt turned out soooo good, hes dope. Dominic also! He's like family to me, I've known him for such a long time, we practically entered the business around the same time and I'm so proud to say here today that we still maintain a great working relationship and it's always an honor working with him, we'll never forget FYT. Will Rocca not only produced but also lended vocals on one of my favorites "Butterflies"! I joked about him finally doing some vocals on a song because Will is such a great vocalist...but it wasn't really planned. I was like, boy you should sing and he's like "I'll do Butterflies"..and I'm like..."you lyin! But he wasn't. It took me a while to believe it until he actually walked in the studio and was like "I wrote to the song, imma let you hear it" In the end he sounds amazing with me on the song. I've worked with him since my first album so he knows me very well, my vocals and my sound. Glad he's finally deciding to song on songs. And and of course a special treat and surprise to everyone, Isaac Lovelock I recorded with for the album! I've never done music with him before and I pitched him the idea doing the title track of the album. Isaac doesn't do features often but when he got back to me I was really excited. He's such a great rapper, we close the album off in a song that basically sums up how everything ends, will it happily ever after or happily never after? It's been almost three years in the making and it feels so good to have the whole thing be done in it's entirety. I've been so excited for this!

Following Choke, Cassie wanted to slow things down for the second release. Hungry Heart, an authentic soulful mid tempo jam that opens the album was released as the second singto be loved back.... you want the to tell you that they love you. You're heart almost feels hungry and I know alot of people can relate to this. Cassie spoke about the decision to release Hungry Heart as the second single: "Hungry Heart, I love. It's that type of record you ca listen to with all audiences, it's mature, it's smooth, it's enjoyable. I really wanted to release something more adult like and contemporary for the second release of the album and this was really just perfect! We've all been in those type of relationships where you feel like that damn man ain't doing nothing and it's all you right? That's what Hungry Heart is about. When you give so much of yourself, you want s. Big thanks to D'Angelo for his really really good production work and lending a helping hand with the song writing process. This record probably took the longest to record because he kept pushing me to do the best that I could, and this song is one of those special moments when you are truly proud of the result. I am truly proud of the entire album as a result and I hope ya'll enjoy Hungry Heart!". Hungry Heart peaked at #6 on the charts. Following Hungry Heart, Cassie decided to push the album back sometime to record some more songs as she grew bored of the initial album title of "Valentine" and wanted to go in a different direction. No other singles were released until 2015 where Cassie returned in new form with "Another Lonely Night" a track appearing on The Wolverines's Breakout album and Matrimony and serving as a promotional single taken from both of the albums. Another Lonely Night peaked at #4 on the charts. A new single is set to be released before the release date of Matrimony. Following Another Lonely Night, Cassie began hinting via social network that she was indeed done with a project and began hyping up #CV3. #CV3 which has been nicknamed by Cassie fans, has gone to become a worldwide trending topic. Especially when Cassie begin revealing the albums tracklist via twitter. Sets of retweets from fans, celebrities and Cassie collaborators has made the hype of the album raise even more.

Q&A

What do you think of the current state of the R&B genre in music?
I think R&B itself hasn't gone anywhere but I do sometimes feel as if a lot of the R&B is now so pop charged that it's lost that "soul" feeling. You know that feeling you get when you really feel the music and the rhythm of the song?... The beats and the vocal? I just feel like R&B has felt a bit...empty lately and I am only saying this because I feel like R&B has become so pop. I'm not saying it to be shady to anyone and I know people will try to take this out of context and say I am "shading" but that is my personal opinion. I love all R&B and it's artists I just feel like R&B itself is losing it's identity! With Matrimony, I think I'm pulling everything back in. I wanted to tell a story but I also wanted to make a statement for R&B too. Like don't forget about us! I won't let R&B die as long as I am making albums. It's who I am and I got back to the essence with this one.

What were you trying to do different on “Matrimony” from your previous work?
Executively produce! I wanted to be the eyes of the project this time around. I've always been heavily involved with my music but I've never been in charge of the logistics of an album. There's so much more that goes on aside from getting the studio and recording a song and I've learned that now. It's much harder work and you need work hard but the final feeling is like no other. When I first listen to the album when it was done I cried because it was personal for me to hear something back so special that I actually put together. I've had amazing help too... but it felt freer because I was able to work on my own time line and basically run the project. Secondly, the actual decision for me to make the album really conceptual. On my previous albums it'd basically be an album with a collection of songs but this collection has an overall theme and a unified story.

Why did you want to be an executive producer when there's so many others who would love to do the job for an established artist like yourself?
With all due respect...I'm getting to a point in my career where I want to oversee everything happening now. Its like I've grown older and I think it was time for me to grow and do my thing.

What do you think will make Matrimony relate-able to your fans?
Relateable in what context? I think when you listen to an album you don't always have to relate to a song to enjoy it. There's other aspects that people can connect with and my fans connect with my music very well. There's many topics on Matrimony that people will be able to relate to and probably some who don't, but people don't only listen to relate to real life situations. They relate to me and what I am singing about. That's why it's important to be connected with your music so your fans are drawn to you.

How would you describe the sound put forth on Matrimony?

It's R&B and Soul with some pop influences. The only song that I've experimented and went full on 'dance' with was "Another Lonely Night" that I did with The Wolverines. I didn't have initially have plans for the song to be on the album but the fans really wanted it. So there's a disco/R&B moment on the album that I looove I think people will enjoy with Another Lonely Night and 'Totaled'. Other than that, the album is very soulful and sensual and then dynamic in some instances.

How many songs in total did you record for Matrimony before cutting down the list??
Many. I literally lost count. This album has been two years in the making.

Where was your first recording session for the album and how was the experience?
I was in New York with Shea Taylor. We cut a few early demos for the album that had a totally different name at that moment. It was cool! It felt so new because it was a totally new project. I was nervous too! I think that day we recorded over some random beats just to get into things again. Lots of it was improvised too haha.

Why did you choose not to include text on Matrimony's album cover?
My artwork creator actually gave me the idea. They thought the cover itself would be more dynamic without text and it was something where the photo could tell the story without words. A picture is worth a thousand words and that's what we went for.

Which collaborator on the album was the funnest to work with on the album?

I love working with Will Rocca! He could have me laughing for hours. We wasted so many hours in the studio just talking and laughing about life, writing stuff. It's super fun working with him always.

Which collaborator on the album was the most relaxed?

I think Deneil was very relaxed. I didn't know what to expect but he seems so normal if that makes sense. He doesn't even seem like a huge rapper and celebrity. He was just like any regular person and that made working with him easier. We cut the track in his studio at his house. I was like wow, this guy is dedicated music and I liked that a lot.

What song took the longest to record?
Choke! And that wasn't because of TJ and Dominic. It was mainly me! *laughs* The process of how the song came about was just really long. I kept starting over and over to make sure the performance was there. Choke was written for people to really have a good time to and make the girls feel sexy. It's that moment in the song where you just want to get lost with your man *laughs*. I wanted to record a fun song for people since a lot of my previous songs are serious. But yeah, in general Choke took about 4 months in total to completely finish.

What song was the hardest for you to sing?
Tease, I would say. Most of the song is sung in falsetto as where my chest register is the most simple for me. I felt like staying in falsetto for a big portion of the song was the most challenging but I love challenges, especially when it comes to singing. It helps me become a better vocalist when I challenge myself.

What song almost didn't make the official tracklisting?
Another Lonely Night! I love the song but didn't know at first if would stay. The reception was amazing so I thought it would be a nice treat for the fans.

What is your favorite song on the album?
Such a tough question. I seriously love them all but my ultimate fave is Matrimony that I did with Isaac. Just because it ends the story off and closes the chapter of Matrimony. It ties everything in and Isaac is perfect on the record. His performance with me is just off the hook and we wanted to get back to the core of Neo/Soul with Matrimony, the track. That was a super tough question, I love them all though!

What's your ultimate goal for the album?
For people to enjoy it. Simple as that. I want people to enjoy the music and enjoy the story

Matrimony is available for preorder now

TRACK 1 - Hungry Heart

UserPostedImage
Genre: Soul, Neo-Soul
Songwriters: Cassie Valentine, Michael Eugene Archer
Producers: D'Angelo

"Hungry Heart" is the opening track taken off of Matrimony and was the second single off of Cassie Valentine's third studio album. The record was written by Cassie Valentine and Michael Eugene Archer better known by his stage name "D'Angelo", who is also the producer of the record. Following the release of Choke, which was more of a party record that could get the club jumping, choosing the next single was rather easy for Cassie. She wanted to return more to her roots and release an authentic soulful mid tempo jam that would fit perfect for a January release. With Hungry Heart, which was written sometime before the release of the album's leading single tells a story of a female who has given her all in a relationship and is the "driving" force and the fact that she isn't getting anything in return her prompted her to have had enough with this relationship and so she begins to play the game as well, she dares the man to come satisfy her hungry heart because it's yearning to be loved hence why her heart is "hungry". The single was written and when Cassie entered the studio with D'Angelo and her backing band, he listened to Cassie sing it to him and then played her a couple of records he as planning on sending her for the album, as soon as she heard the instrumental to what would become "Hungry Heart" she fell in love. She intends to make her album "Valentine" appeal to all different audiences and she felt that Hungry Heart was alot more mature in sound and lyrical content to the club and young audience anthem in "Choke" and after recording Hungry Heart, she instantly knew it would be the perfect follow up to Choke.

From the very start of Hungry Heart, you can instantly pick up the neo-soul vibes and maturity as light and silky synths appear on the record while Cassie does some flattering coos and adlibs over the synth filled and quite atmospheric beats. Seconds pass and Cassie begins to sing the first verse of the record. Over the silky beats that feature funky keyboard work as well, Cassie sensually sings as if she is speaking to her loved one. She explains that they have a cold and lacking heart and to the point where she has had enough, over the mid temped throwback beats Cassie really shines. And here, production wise, less is more where the listener can really absorb the lyrical content and performance of Cassie who's vocals sound utterly perfect over the non menacing record and makes the early seconds of this record very enjoyable and simple to pick up.

Following the first verse, a very quick line in the pre hook is heard where Cassie is heard belting out "you're taking up my time" before the song breaks onto the chorus. Here, nothing big really happens, but instead the enjoyable nature of the record stays on key and the when the chorus breaks onto the record we get some more instrumentation and synths, and the beats pick up as Cassie sings out about her head being played with and her hungry heart wanting more loving and the fact that she's going to be playing these games with her loved ones as well. During the chorus, you can hear some light cymbals and synths behind the faster beat and Cassie's vocals that sounds silky and echoey over the atmospheric R&B jam. Although this song is less in your face than Cassie's previous record, this is still pretty danceable as it is laid back. Over the next verse, Cassie continues speaking to this protagonist about always being on the giving end and questions whether or if she is the one or one of those many precious hearts that he played with prior to her. She sings explaining that she is sick of waiting around for this person and that he is running out of time. Right after Cassie does her famous belt, the song goes into it's chorus once more, in the same fashion as the synths and beats pick up behind Cassie's silky, powerful and sensual vocals as she sings out. Following the next chorus, Cassie works her vocal magic as she unleashes some big vocals before the short bridge where she proclaims that she'll win this game that he is playing. After that, the song breaks in the chorus once more. This one bigger than the ones before, adding in bigger synths, a louder backing beat and louder cymbals as Cassie brings her vocals up and louder than before, adding in some adlibs before the single rides out and comes to an end.

ooooh baby....
ooooh baby....
Ooooh, Oooh....
Yeah....
Tutu, tu, tu, tu, tu
Uh...listen..

Don't wanna read your words,
So cold and lacking heart.
I wanna hear your voice,
I wanna feel your arms.
Did you think that I'd fall either way,
All for your superficial charms?
I'm aching, I'm burning up.
Honestly, I've had enough.

You're taking up my time.

Well, I'll play your game,
And I'm not giving up until I win.
You're fucking with my head
And breaking me.
But it's your turn now.
If you really want me,
Come; satisfy this hungry heart in me.

ooooh baby....
ooooh baby....
Ooooh, Oooh....

Can't go on with this,
Being the driving force.
You gotta help me out,
Tell me, what's the score?
Am I just one of many precious hearts?
Or am I what you're really looking for?
I hate waiting around for you.
I don't wanna have to tell you.

You're running out of time.

Well, I'll play your game,
And I'm not giving up until I win.
You're fucking with my head
And breaking me.
But it's your turn now.
If you really want me,
Come; satisfy this hungry heart in me

ooooh baby....
ooooh baby....
Ooooh, Oooh....
And I need you to feed me love too....

This time,
I'll play you at your game.
And this time, I'll win.

Well, I'll play your game,
And I'm not giving up until I win.
You're fucking with my head
And breaking me.
But it's your turn now.
If you really want me,
Come; satisfy this hungry heart in me
(2x)

ooooh baby....
ooooh baby....
Ooooh, Oooh....

TRACK 2 - Hurt (feat. Drew Westbrook)

UserPostedImage
Genre: R&B, Dancehall, Reggae-pop
Songwriters: Cassie Valentine, Sandra Cosy, Drew Westbrook
Producers: Boi-1da

Hurt is the second track coming from Cassie Valentine's third studio album "Matrimony". The track follows the album opener in "Hungry Heart". Hurt also features a rap verse from popular rap musician Drew Westbrook is will be released as a a promotional record and single shortly before Matrimony is released. The record was written by Cassie Valentine, Sandra Cosy and of course, Drew Westbrook and produced by Boi-1da. Hurt was initially sent to Cassie in late 2015 by Boi-1da and was one of the final records recorded and mixed for the album, after Cassie recorded the album the idea to a have a rapper on the song came after. The song was initially suppose to be a solo record but after hearing a song by Drew Westbrook on the radio as Cassie drove to the studio, she had an amazing idea of possibly having him join the track since they've never worked on music together. Shortly after Cassie got in contact with Drew, who was exuberant to work with Cassie. She sent the track over to Drew and just a few days later, he sent the song back and the record was finalized. The two share much chemistry on the track as their voices seem to sound well together.

Hurt is among the catchiest and funner aspects of Cassie's previous singles. It has a a synth-infused reverie that sounds like a dancehall song as Cassie slurs over Boi-1da’s beat in a patois, repeating the titular refrain over the catchy beats that will most likely get caught in your heard as you repeat "Hurt" over and over again. Cassie explains that a guy has a hold on her and keeps hurting her but there's just something about him that just keeps her around whether its his eyes, the way he puts it down in the bedroom or anything along those lines. he questions why he does the things he does and why he has her so hurt. She realizes the things she does she just can't seem to get away from him. After, Drew Westbrook comes on with a catchy rap verse before Cassie resings the chorus to end off the catchy record.

Quote:
Hurt has such an important spot on Matrimony and the Matrimony story that I am telling. This record hits the aspect of love and commitment that is estranged but we keep finding ourselves going back. It happens so much in Matrimony and in many regular, deep relationships too. You know the person is no good for you and you know you have many problems but they just have this hold on you that keeps you going back or keeps you from leaving them. In this record, I haven't found the strength yet to walk and or realize my self worth so I let another man take advantage of that and that's what's being explained on Hurt. Some of the reason why I stick around will be explained on the next track Neck Kisses. As for Hurt, it's a really catchy record that I know people will be able to enjoy dancing too, but lyrically it's so much more. I truly thank Boi for producing such a reggae tinged record and Drew for lending his helping hand on a great verse. I really enjoyed working with him.

Hurt, hurt, hurt, hurt, hurt, hurt
You really got me hurt, hurt, hurt, hurt, hurt, hurt
You treat me like I'm dirt, dirt, dirt, dirt, dirt, dirt
I swear I'm bout to walk, walk, walk, walk, walk, walk
Then I'm nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah
But ya time tock, tock, tock, tock, tocked

Those eyes, when they first stared in to mine
Cold as ice, it almost stopped time,
I needed time to step back, to see what I was facing,
I needed someone to stop me from chasing
The person who didn't care
the person who'd leave me broken.
Nobody stopped me, they left me on the path
With a bad ending, a morbid disaster

Your polite act got the best of me,
Your pretty lies drowned me like I was in the sea
You got me under a strong spell,
I can't break out cause I love you so well
Your soothing voice only wants a game,
Oh, I'll never love someone the same
And now you got me...

The way you put it down, down, down, down, down
You keep me comin' round, round, round, round

Your eyes, oh, I didn't see the demons in them,
A spark of trouble ran through my veins,
But I must have liked it,
Cause I never took my eyes off you again.

Why did I ever think you'd be my happily ever after?
Why was it you?
Why not someone else?
Why did I fall in to your trap,
And not try to get out?
Why couldn't I see?
You weren't good enough for me?
Ever since the start, I've been asking myself
Why you got me ...

The way you put it down, down, down, down, down
You keep me comin' round, round, round, round, round

I admit, I ain't nothing but a hound
Apply a bit of pressure when I know you're losing ground
Got you in my hands and I don't want to put you down
Either I'm never there or I just don't make a sound
I don't fix our problems, I just cover them in more mistakes
Just when I think you don't see right through me, you do a double take
Still you always getting hurt by the things I don't say
Love's a bad religion and I keep playing with your faith
Fate is all about the faults, but that's never why you stay
I love you through the night but neglect you in the day
Put you in positions and then I put you in your place
I never come home but I'm always touching base
I go crazy every time you turn around, just don't turn your back on me
When I get you alone I'ma prove that you want me
It's been a hot minute since we focused on the bond, B
Used to have a dream that I'd be your Dagwood and you'd be my Blondie
And I'd be the only one to blame if it never came true
You wonder why I'm never around, well, I just never want to see you...

Hurt, hurt, hurt, hurt, hurt, hurt
You really got me hurt, hurt, hurt, hurt, hurt, hurt
You treat me like I'm dirt, dirt, dirt, dirt, dirt, dirt
I swear I'm bout to walk, walk, walk, walk, walk, walk
Then I'm nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah
The way you put it down, down, down, down, down
You keep me comin' round, round, round, round, round

TRACK 3 - Neck Kisses

UserPostedImage
Genre: R&B
Songwriters: Cassie Valentine
Producers: Rico Love

Neck Kissesis the third track taken from Matrimony. The song follows previous track "Hurt". Neck Kisses was written solely by Cassie Valentine and was produced by Cassie's longtime collaborator Rico Love. Neck Kisses was one of the tracks written during the second first recordings of Matrimony, meaning that before Cassie scrapped the previous songs that didn't make the album, Neck Kisses was among those that Cassie decided to keep and eventually add onto the album. The record was recorded in late 2014 with Rico Love in Los Angeles, California and took a total of two days to record mainly due to some changes being made to the lyrics and quick tweaks to the production that was heard, unlike the previous record on the album, Neck Kisses slows things down and the initial subject is quite different from the tracks heard so far from Matrimony and opens up a sensual side to the story and opens up a new door to Cassie Valentine that people didn't hear much prior to this album, sensuality.

Neck Kisses is a clear bedroom burners laced with a soulful jam and a massively catchy backing beat with sharp synths making way every few seconds. Cassie slows down the pace and delivers pleasing ode to pleasing her man. Cassie herself makes this record a true standout on the album, laying down the kind of smooth and sultry vocals that will have ensure an influx love from the fans as she unleashes sexy vocals that includes vocals runs as well. This is clearly one of Cassie's most sensual records and it ties in well with the concept of the album and it's a clear indication following a record like hurt.

Quote:
I feel like Neck Kisses is a perfect followup to Hurt having to do with the concept of the album. It's like "Neck Kisses" answers some of the question that were left unanswered on Hurt. I feel like there's a sensual side of deep relationships that many people don't talk about and that side of a relationship will keep a woman around despite how much of a dog the other can be. Hurt talks about constantly being hurt by a person and questioning why they keep around, and then Neck Kisses makes way on the next track and you go ohhh, so...it's the sex and sensuality that may just be keeping her around. Neck Kisses is like the "make up" sex song of the album. We've just gotten into our first fight, you piss me off all the time, you hurt me...but the sex...those neck kisses is what drives me wild and what keeps me around. I absolutely love Neck Kisses because it's so sensual and you can just get lost in my vocals and the production. It's a slowjam that came out really good. Thanks Ricoooo!

Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh
Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh

Let my love bleed
Let me leave my lipstick on your neck
Let me wrap my hands around your neck
Now it’s your turn, boy

Let my love die, Let my love die
Pull my hair and bite my neck
Hit me and whisper you love me
Stay with me till the morning

Boy we're not done (No, No, No, No)
Boy we're not done (Uh, Uh, Uh, Uh)

And I will take my clothes off
And my body is on fire
And your neck kisses are so tender
With you'll I'll never be a pretender
Whip it out and breath on me
Send me through ecstasy

And I will take my clothes off
Yeah my body is on fire
And your neck kisses are so tender
With you'll I'll never be a pretender
Whip it out and breath on me
I'm ready for ecstasy

Let my love burn
Let me push your head down the middle
Let me smack your neck
Now it’s your turn, boy

Let my love drown
Swallow my howling tears
Yeah I know you're drowning in my ocean
You got me in pure ecstasy
Just keep drowning
Just keep drowning

Boy we're not done (No, No, No, No)
Boy we're not done (Uh, Uh, Uh, Uh)

And I will take my clothes off
And my body is on fire
And your neck kisses are so tender
With you'll I'll never be a pretender
Whip it out and breath on me
Send me through ecstasy

And I will take my clothes off
Yeah my body is on fire
And your neck kisses are so tender
With you'll I'll never be a pretender
Whip it out and breath on me
I'm ready for ecstasy

Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh
Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh
Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh
Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh

Those neck kisses
Sending chills down my spine
Got me flowing, this should be a crime
But no don't stop, I'm reaching the edge

Boy we're not done (No, No, No, No)
Boy we're not done (Uh, Uh, Uh, Uh)

And I will take my clothes off
And my body is on fire
And your neck kisses are so tender
With you'll I'll never be a pretender
Whip it out and breath on me
Send me through ecstasy

And I will take my clothes off
Yeah my body is on fire
And your neck kisses are so tender
With you'll I'll never be a pretender
Whip it out and breath on me
I'm ready for ecstasy

TRACK 4 - Tornado

UserPostedImage
Genre: R&B
Songwriters: Cassie Valentine
Producers: Deneil Khan

The fourth track to come from Matrimony is the captivating "Tornado" which follows the sultry and seductive "Neck Kisses". This track was penned in 2015 as one of the last records leading to the initial announcement of the "Matrimony" album. Cassie Valentine uses clever lyrical content to speak of a commitment gone astray. One of the components that makes this album track special is Cassie's lyrics that speak metaphorically about the thoughts of a lover having an affect on her mind as if it was a "Tornado", which is a natural weather disaster. After the song was penned by Valentine, she looked about to see what producer would be able to create a sound that would be different, unique but still her, not going too far off the spectrum. Deneil Khan was eventually contacted after Cassie was pitched the idea by a member of hr camp. Despite never working with him, Cassie has always been a supporter of Khan and the sound of his music and was interested in seeing what sounds they could create together. Cassie eventually flew out to the United Kingdom after Deneil accepted to work with her. She presented him with two lyrics and hooks specifically for the album and after about a 5 day studio session Deneil was able to craft up two obvious stand outs on Matrimony.

Over dark, electronic R&B beats, Cassie's voice arcs with searing, yearning electricity. Like many moments on the album. Tornado has a slinky rhythm and backgrounds suggesting an external world of mental dismay, while the intensity of her main vocal implies the burning internal passions of harrowing love. Over the light but silky production Cassie's performance is still at center stage locating heartbreak in demonstrative vocal runs. Here, she explores the range of her powerful voice, it's as if to indicate the loss of self-worth throughout the record and she gets across the pain through every lyric that she murmurs throughout the record.

I'm done with all this.
I can't stand another sleepless night.
You're making my head spin and I can't see right.
Every time you apologize and say you'll try harder,
Things take a sharp turn onto a path leading nowhere.

If I'm the bee then you're the stinger,
I'd rather see you being with her.
You're the storm I can't escape,
You're the chains that won't set me free.

The clouds are being completely pushed away.
I can feel the sun on my face already.
I don't feel like having thoughts of you cloud up my mind
Again like a tornado
The clouds are being completely pushed away.
I can feel the sun on my face already.
I don't feel like having thoughts of you cloud up my mind
Again like a tornado

Am I the only one of us
Who doesn't feel a thing between us?
Whipping me around like I'm sort of toy,
Yanking out the roots of my tree and smashing me on the ground.
And you wonder why I stay inside and hide away from you.

If I'm the bee then you're the stinger
I'd rather see you being with her.
You're the storm I can't escape,
You're the chains that won't set me free.

The clouds are being completely pushed away.
I can feel the sun on my face already.
I don't feel like having thoughts of you cloud up my mind
Again like a tornado
The clouds are being completely pushed away.
I can feel the sun on my face already.
I don't feel like having thoughts of you cloud up my mind
Again like a tornado
Like a tornado

I never thought I could stress so much
(No,no,no,no)
Until you came into my life
And now I see why every storm warning in my head is going off.
And now I see why every storm warning in my head is going off.
Ooh, ah, spinnin round, Ooh, ah hit the ground
Ooh, ah, spinnin round, Ooh, ah hit the ground

The clouds are being completely pushed away.
I can feel the sun on my face already.
I don't feel like having thoughts of you cloud up my mind
Again like a tornado
The clouds are being completely pushed away.
I can feel the sun on my face already.
I don't feel like having thoughts of you cloud up my mind
Again like a tornado

Ooh, ah, spinnin round, Ooh, ah hit the ground
Ooh, ah, spinnin round, Ooh, ah hit the ground

TRACK 5 - I Said Run

UserPostedImage
Genre: R&B
Songwriters: Cassie Valentine
Producers: Deneil Khan

Run, run, run, Run, run, run
Run, run, run, Run, run, run
Run, run, run, run, run, run
Run, run, run, run, run, run

I've seen girls like you before
Hanging over him like a fragile broken thing
He's my treasure, my gold
And baby you're not enough
For his tough love, he'll break your bones
You are powerless
Like a baby taking its first breath

You’re just an outside child playing on my playground
This is my man and your playing him just because you can
You’re just an outside child playing on my playground
This is my man and your playing him just because you can

If you ever get close again I will kill you slow
Dark at night when you lie there sleeping in your fairy tale
Oh babe you should lay it off before I take you love
So you should Run, run I said run!
If you ever get close again I will kill you slow
Dark at night when you lie there sleeping in your fairy tale
Oh babe you should lay it off before I take you love
So you should Run, run I said run!

Don't think I haven't been on to you
Taking notes daily, but you best to realize
That's my man, my man and your stepping into my territory
You're not shaped for him, you're not shaped for him
You're about to create a real bad story
I'm gonna solve this issue real easy girl
Tried to be as nice as I can be
But you fail to realize, he's gonna be fuckin' me

You’re just an outside child playing on my playground
This is my man and your playing him just because you can
You’re just an outside child playing on my playground
This is my man and your playing him just because you can

If you ever get close again I will kill you slow
Dark at night when you lie there sleeping in your fairy tale
Oh babe you should lay it off before I take you love
So you should Run, run I said run!
If you ever get close again I will kill you slow
Dark at night when you lie there sleeping in your fairy tale
Oh babe you should lay it off before I take you love
So you should Run, run I said run!

Run, run, run, Run, run, run
Run, run, run, Run, run, run
Run, run, run, run, run, run
Run, run, run, run, run, run

This is just a fair warning
You don't want it with a chick like me
Don't fuck with what's mine, cause I'm telling you now

If you ever get close again I will kill you slow
Dark at night when you lie there sleeping in your fairy tale
Oh babe you should lay it off before I take you love
So you should Run, run I said run!
If you ever get close again I will kill you slow
Dark at night when you lie there sleeping in your fairy tale
Oh babe you should lay it off before I take you love
So you should Run, run I said run!

Run, run, run, Run, run, run
Run, run, run, Run, run, run
Run, run, run, run, run, run
Run, run, run, run, run, run

TRACK 6 - WANT U BACK (ADDICTED) [Interlude]

UserPostedImage
Genre: R&B
Songwriters: Cassie Valentine
Length: 1:30
Producers: Boi-1da

Is it just me, or am I insane?
I can feel you in my heart and in my brain
I can feel you running through my veins
It might sound crazy, but I like the pain

You’re my chemical addiction
My unprescribed prescription
My personal affliction
I’m under your conviction

I can’t seem to let you go
I don’t want to let you go
I need to let you go
I can’t let you go

What am I supposed to do
When I’m addicted to you

You’re my chemical addiction
My unprescribed prescription
My personal affliction
I’m under your conviction

Your lies are like alcohol.
I'm addicted to them,
They numb the rational feelings I once had.
I don't even question them,
Because they feel so right

We broke off, and now I want you back

Instrumental

TRACK 7 - CHOKE (feat. Kidd Amaze & Dominic Brown)

UserPostedImage
Genre: R&B
Songwriters: Cassie Valentine
Length: 4:30
Producers: Detail, Jerome Harmon, Boots

"Choke" is the 7th track taken from Matrimony R&B Starlet Cassie Valentine. The record was produced by producer Detail, Jerone Harmon and Boots and took about three days to record and finish and is looked at as Cassie's biggest sounding song as well as one of her most suggestive, dance-able and free spirited feeling records. "Choke" goes on for a length of 4:30 seconds with the radio edit being 3:40 and both Dominic and Kidd amaze show their suggestive lyrics in spit fire verses where Dominic Brown starts things off, then Cassie sings seductively and belts out the extremely catchy chorus showing just how much of a powerful vocal she has on each of the choruses and Kidd Amaze spitting is verse right before the chorus. The R&B/Trap jam is about choking on someones love as Cassie explores female sexuality, although some may suggest that the song is hinting at something else and is an double entendre to something much more raunchy, but that's up for debate really.

The track starts off right away with Dominic Brown taking the center stage. Over a backing beat that has a heavy bass, skittering drums, some finger snaps and syths. It may come as a surprise to here Dominic Brown rapping but he shines over the beat and sounds as if he's been rapping his whole career, that or either he's finally letting out his secret talent. Dominic Brown sounds confident as he raps about love and even gets a beat sexual. The beats keep ringing throughout until Dominic finishes his last lines as he final vocal sways off. Soon as he is done, heavy synths come in with the same beat, as Cassie starts singing. She sounds very sensual and concentrated, so much to the point where it almost feels like she's singing to you, the listener. Cassie starts singing about a male who seems to bring out the best in her whether or not it's sexually or not and she seems to be so consumed with his love. Right before the chorus, the song loses it's bass and sounds as if it's rising when she belts out "And I am weak, I am weaken for you" the song then soars production wise into a bass filled, synth trap concoction of R&B and pop where Cassie really shows off her vocal ability in this catchy track.

Cassie belts out the beginning parts "And it catches in my thro-o-oat,And I cho-o-oke.|I get high, so high,And I'm notcoming down.|It catches inside|And I'm so exposed to you.|Damn it, I've fallen." After singing that part two times over the blaring production, but Cassie is very well heard and does not once get lost in the production with her vocals. The sounds in the song along with Cassie's vocals are perfect for making a person want to dance, have sex or even go hard at the gym. As the song rides out of the first chorus, things calm down again and Cassie starts the next verse, now, she doesn't exactly sing but instead brings on a rapping vibe as she continues to talk about this guy that she seems to be infatuated with. Cassie sounds confident, sexy and in love when rap/singing these lyrics. She continues on the next chorus where the song breaks back into the very memorable chorus. After that however, Urban star Kidd Amaze comes on with her very noticeable flow. He spits a hot verse like Dominic. Kidd Amaze makes a set of metaphors that hint at a consensual love or sex relationship with a female. After he finishes, the song breaks into the chorus once more, followed by a bridge where Cassie throws in some lyrical content and makes metaphors to describe how she feels about the guy and ends it off with saying "I'm not fighting you" before the song breaks in the final big chorus until the song comes to a stop

It's crazy how it's already about to be time for album three! But I'm excited! And especially for this single right here. This track is a monster... we been plannin' this for a long time and is really my first record that you can really just vibe out to and dance to. The album has those heart pulling songs on it but I wanted to come out with something much different and bigger in sound. You know? That free spirited type of love and attitude? This is definitely the one. I love this song and Dominic Brown and Kidd Amaze got on it and killed it both. I hope you all love it too.

DOMINIC BROWN
Every freaking night and every freaking day
I wanna freak you baby in every freaking way
The way your body move your so in shape
I’m so lost in your love; I can’t escape
....So baby girl lets do it...
She say she love my wood and I aint talking broomstick
I do it right she be feeling like a new chick
The brain make her crazy she a lunatic
And she be holding on; she got a tight grip
Cuz she my sundae and I’m her cool whip
So I just sprinkle my love; so amusing
So baby girl lets vibe to the music
Together we shine; similar to diamonds
And then I keep her on lock like Riker’s Island
So forget them haters they just wildn
Cuz we gotta strong connection like Verizon

I wouldn't say I'm any less of a woman,
In fact, you kinda bring her out of me.
And maybe now I'm a little less innocent,
But this pleasure is guilty.
I don't sleep when you're still awake,
We go 'til morning with the love we make.
I've been searching for something,
But I know the answer,
It's screaming your name.

And I am weak, I weaken for you.

And it catches in my thro-o-oat,
And I cho-o-oke.
I get high, so high,
And I'm not coming down.
It catches inside
And I'm so exposed to you.
Damn it, I've fallen.
(2x)

I've never tasted something this good,
You've drugged me, and I'm drinkin' it.
I've never felt that part of me awaken,
But these passions are no secret.
You really bring out the best in me,
You take the flaws and make them amazing.
There's no question now
That I'll do anything
To keep you around.

And I get weak, I weaken for you.

And it catches in my thro-o-oat,
And I cho-o-oke.
I get high, so high,
And I'm not coming down.
It catches inside
And I'm so exposed to you.
Damn it, I've fallen.
(2x)

KIDD AMAZE
I see you there girl, better watch how I bring something new
Under this nice guy I show you thing you never knew
I got the change up, hope you ready for this
Put it down the lane, it just might give you fits
That g-series recover, cause I'm not gonna quit
You can say this the best of,cause I got all the hits
Plus, I aim to please I never giving you the same look
One of a kind experience that will catch anyone shook
Prepare for it make sure you got your mind right
stock up and have the candles, cause it going to be a long night
Oh, You say you never, you just going lie
While wait until the last moment, then give that college try
Cram all you can but this not something to blinding attempt
You going to have to go hard until you get a limp
And they said that all it's takes it practice
You were try to put me under like a baptist

And it catches in my thro-o-oat,
And I cho-o-oke.
I get high, so high,
And I'm not coming down.
It catches inside
And I'm so exposed to you.
Damn it, I've fallen.
(2x)

Damn it, I’ve fallen.
I’ve fallen.

You're the words to my song.
You're the truth to my lies.
You're the smoke on my water.
You're the pill to my high.
Come be the ring on my finger,
'Cause you're the meaning of my life.
I'm not fighting you.

And it catches in my thro-o-oat,
And I cho-o-oke.
I get high, so high,
And I'm not coming down.
It catches inside
And I'm so exposed to you.
Damn it, I've fallen.
(2x)

Damn it, I’ve fallen.
I’ve fallen.

TRACK 8 - TEASE

UserPostedImage
Genre: R&B, Neo-Soul
Songwriters: Cassie Valentine, Will Rocca
Producers: Will Rocca

Your skin against mine
I lose my mind, begin to unwind
Every spot that I find
Soft gentle right?
Your breath in my ear
Sin becoming clear
Every moan that I hear
Loud hard right?

You tame my inner dirty rage
You claim my little craving cage
You never do the same twice
You always get a little slice
But this time its my turn
So shut up lay down and learn

My nails down your back
Hair on end attack
Now there's no going back
Every curve of your back
Soft gentle right?
Your little just do it look
The innocence you took
You know the rhyme wrote the book
Right time wont be mistook
Loud hard right?

You tame my inner dirty rage
You claim my little craving cage
You never do the same twice
You always get a little slice
But this time its my turn
So shut up lay down and learn

Your panting on my neck, I begin to wreck
Nothing held back or kept
Every little peck
Soft gentle right?
Your screaming out for more
Did we lock the door
Now rolling on the floor
Every inch I explore
Loud hard right?

You tame my inner dirty rage
You claim my little craving cage
You never do the same twice
You always get a little slice
But this time its my turn
So shut up lay down and learn

TRACK 9 - BUTTERFLIES (FEAT. WILL ROCCA)

Genre: R&B, Neo-Soul, Pop Soul
Songwriters: Cassie Valentine, Will Rocca, Erik Zullo
Producers: Will Rocca

Cassie
Will Rocca

Ah, ah, these butterflies
(Yeah)
Ah, ah, these butterflies

I met a girl so sweet and fine,
For me to tell her it took a while
Love is nothing but a two way connection
You gotta get it right for the proper affection
Ma love for you is so true
I see an angel in you
Now c’mon baby, hold my hand

Walk with me till the end of time
I’ll hold you close and never let go
Gonna share each moment in this life and more
The road we walk will be a better one
Gonna make it through life’s tough run

Every step with you is like a lifetime spent
All these things said I have really meant
There are no reasons to look at the past
Look ahead cause it's me who you’ll see

Because these spaces between my fingers,
Are where your feeling lingers,
And tells me you're still there at night,
The patterns the clouds make
Are the ones you rearrange according to what feels right,
And when a single butterfly flies high in the sky,
It reminds me it's from you,
And your passing by.

When you first looked into my eyes,
Tell my why didn’t you look away
What was so special about me?
Why did you need to know my name?
What drew you to a girl like me?
Was it all about the chase?

Well let me just tell you that your eyes,
Well, they shine
When they look in to mine.
And let me just tell you that your smile,
Well, it makes me feel happy for a while.
When you're with me.

Every step with you is like a lifetime spent
All these things said I have really meant
There are no reasons to look at the past
Look ahead cause it's us who I see

Because these spaces between my fingers,
Are where your feeling lingers,
And tells me you're still there at night,
The patterns the clouds make
Are the ones you rearrange according to what feels right,
And when a single butterfly flies high in the sky,
It reminds me it's from you,
And your passing by.

These spaces between my fingers,
Are where your feeling lingers,
And tells me you're still there at night,

The patterns the clouds make
Are the ones you rearrange according to what feels right,
And when a single butterfly flies high in the sky,

It reminds me it's from you,
And your passing by.

Oh-oo-oh, oh-oo-oh (ah, ah, butterflies)
Yeah Yeah (ah, ah, butterflies)
This connection is so surreal darling, no-oh (ah, ah, butterflies)
Yeah lets fly away darling, oh I'll take you (ah, ah, so beautiful)
Oh-oh-ah, oh-oh-ah, oh-oh-ah, ah-ah-ah..
Oh-oh-ah, oh-oh-ah, oh-oh-ah, ah-ah-ah..

Don’t you worry darling, just hold on darling (oh-oh-ah, oh-oh-ah, oh-oh-ah, ah-ah-ah...)

TRACK 10 - WHERE'S MY RESPECT [INTERLUDE]

UserPostedImage
Genre: R&B
Written By: Cassie Valentine
Producers:Boots
Length: 00:55

[Spoken]

Respect is something I know no definition of
Because actions speak louder than words
And demonstration makes quick learners
I don't know what respect is because I have never been shown it
Whether from my peers or my own blood
There have always been alabis as to why I don't deserve it
I question wether there is a being on this earth to who I am superior to
But actions speak louder than words
Therefore I will show them that I am human and that age nor ability
Should determine who receives respect but endurance and goals.
Respect to me is just theory, practice what you preach and you may be respected....

Practice what you preach and you may be respected....
Practice what you preach and you may be respected....

[Echo fade out]

TRACK 11 - BIPOLAR MIND

UserPostedImage
Genre: R&B, Pop-Soul
Written By: Cassie Valentine, Erik Zullo, Charlott Neloms, Sadie Carranco
Producers: Naughty Boy
Length: 3:30

Scattered thoughts and memories,
How can I forget what you did
My head is in a dark place right about now
So please stay with me
My bipolar thoughts got me trippin'
Sometimes I think I miss being with you
And missing out on living
How can I depend on someone like you?
When I actually really hate you

Remember when you told me forget and move on?
But the mistakes you made weren’t mistakes
Not when they were repeatedly made
Now you’ve decided to mature and become a man
It's fucking with my head
It's fucking with my soul
I don’t understand

You made me insecure like you,
Trapped in my head, such a fool
Second guessing myself, not cool
Scared to leave my house
Because I don’t feel like I belong in this world.

How could you look at me in my teary eyes
When I caught you that a lie
How could you promise me you'd stop
Then the second I'm gone, you carry it on
I'm questioning if you actually love me
Or if you just love having me

You keep saying I'm taking advantage of you,
You say you give me everything, and I give you nothing,
I know how it appears to the outside,
But we both damn well know whats happening on the inside
They can think what they want, oh yes they can
But you know what you did.

That’s why you're doing everything to keep me
You know what you have now
Now its me who's unsure, so ill keep taking the piss out of you
Until I know the truth.
So now you can, forget and move on,
Or wait for my reply like a hold on,
I'm not sure what I want, maybe in the end its not you,
But this is the game you started

How could you look at me in my teary eyes
When I caught you that a lie
How could you promise me you'd stop
Then the second I'm gone, you carry it on
I'm questioning if you actually love me
Or if you just love having me

Just remember in the beginning I did everything for you,
I made excuses for your childish behavior,
I waited so long for you to change
Now darling, it could be too late

The messed up thing is that I don’t want us to end
There's potential in us,
We just need to build a foundation of trust
The problem is I might be too weak for that
So now you've got to wait for me, like I waited for you..

How could you look at me in my teary eyes
When I caught you in a lie
How could you promise me you'd stop
Then the second I'm gone, you carry on
I'm questioning if you actually love me
Or if you just love having me

TRACK 12 - TOTALED

UserPostedImage
Genre: R&B, Disco
Written By: Cassie Valentine, Scott Wines, Brett Juliano
Producers: The Wolverines
Length: 3:46

I'm running into walls again
Telling you we should just be friends
You say you thought I'd never ask
Well it seems to me this car has crashed

I'd be better off without
The awful words we'd scream and shout
You tell me that our love has passed
Well it seems to me this car has crashed

Goodbye doesn't always hurt so much
When I'm so repulsed by just one touch
We don't really even want to stay
But I can't seem to get away

And our love is like a totaled car
That never seems to get that far
And it's broken down and unwanted
Not the sports car you always flaunted
Call me once, shame on you
Call me twice, you know you want to
And even though this car doesn't work
Another drive probably won't hurt

I can't get you out of my head
It's not love but infatuation instead
Worst for first you say best for last
This car has long since, long since crashed

Goodbye doesn't always hurt so much
When I'm so repulsed by just one touch
We don't really even want to stay
But I can't seem to get away

And our love is like a totaled car
That never seems to get that far
And it's broken down and unwanted
Not the sports car you always flaunted
Call me once, shame on you
Call me twice, you know you want to
And even though this car doesn't work
Another drive probably won't hurt

Goodbye doesn't always hurt so much
When I'm so repulsed by just one touch
We don't really even want to stay
But I can't seem to get away

And our love is like a totaled car
That never seems to get that far

TRACK 13 - ANOTHER LONELY NIGHT

UserPostedImage
Genre: R&B, Disco, Dance-Pop
Written By: Cassie Valentine, William Grach, Roman Grach
Producers: The Wolverines
Length: 3:42

My life is ticking by
I wonder where you are tonight
My nights going by
I have been waiting for you to touch my lips
And for you to hold me close
Its just another night
Alone

Come and hold me tonight I'm so tired of being alone
Come and kiss me tonight I'm so tired of being alone
I wonder where you are tonight
My love for you is still unknown
Come and hold me tonight I'm so tired of being alone
Come and kiss me tonight I'm so tired of being alone
Come and hold me tonight I'm so tired of being alone
Come and kiss me tonight I'm so tired of being alone

I have been waiting for sometime for you
To come into my life
And bring love to my heart
Or is it just another night alone
My love for you is still unknown
Come and hold me close and touch my lips
Just tired of being alone

Come and hold me tonight I'm so tired of being alone
Come and kiss me tonight I'm so tired of being alone
I wonder where you are tonight
My love for you is still unknown
Come and hold me tonight I'm so tired of being alone
Come and kiss me tonight I'm so tired of being alone
Come and hold me tonight I'm so tired of being alone
Come and kiss me tonight I'm so tired of being alone

I wonder where you are tonight
I wonder where you are tonight
Just make your way to me
I'll promise you'll have the night of your life

Come and hold me tonight I'm so tired of being alone
Come and kiss me tonight I'm so tired of being alone
I wonder where you are tonight
My love for you is still unknown
Come and hold me tonight I'm so tired of being alone
Come and kiss me tonight I'm so tired of being alone
Come and hold me tonight I'm so tired of being alone
Come and kiss me tonight I'm so tired of being alone

TRACK 14 - CHANGE

UserPostedImage
Genre: R&B
Written By: Erik Zullo, Cassie Valentine, Ken Hemsworth
Producers: T-Collar
Length: 3:45

I'm burning down
The flame is going out
I don't get enough air to breathe
I am tangled up in everything in between

People are running around
So caught up with themselves
Will we ever learn to love anyone else?
And it's so easy to get lost in the fall
It's so easy to give up and not to believe at all

Stay clean, be here
Someday I'll be running out of this town
I will find a way out
And eventually, I'll be happy
But for now I keep chasing rainbows
Need to forget the weather has changed

Ayayayayayayayayaya
Need a change and I'll be happy
Ayayayayayayayayaya
Need a change and I'll be happy

I shouldn't hear a sound
Empty rooms yet it's incredibly loud
Ain't that the way it is?
You make your plans but nothing ever turns out right
We're fading and we're lost in all those dark nights

In my dreams I carry away
When I'm asleep
I'm dreaming of a place so far away from here

Stay clean, be here
Someday I'll be running out of this town
I will find a way out
And eventually, I'll be happy
For now I keep chasing rainbows
Need to forget the weather has changed

Ayayayayayayayayaya
Need a change and I'll be happy
Ayayayayayayayayaya
Need a change and I'll be happy

It's a mystery, not always a dance party
There's no mute button, music playing constantly
I don't see reality in this fake universe
Everyone fights and I fight to get back life
I held on tight, way too tight
Cause everyone falls and I fall deep

It's so easy to get lost in the falls
It's so easy to lose your heart without hope

Stay clean, be here
Someday I'll be running out of this town
I will find a way out
And eventually, I'll be happy
For now I keep chasing rainbows
Need to forget the weather has changed
The weather has changed

Ayayayayayayayayaya
Need a change, I'll be happy
Ayayayayayayayayaya
Need a change, I'll be happy
Ayayayayayayayayaya
Ayayayayayayayayaya
Trust me, I'll be happy

TRACK 15 - MATRIMONY (feat. Isaac Lovelock)

UserPostedImage
Genre: R&B, Neo-Soul
Written By: Cassie Valentine, Isaac Lovelock, Lynn Graham, Kirk Vargas
Producers: Darhyl "Hey DJ" Camper
Length: 3:45

Matrimony is the final track to come off of the standard edition of Cassie's Valentine's third studio album of the same name. The record was produced by Darhyl "Hey DJ" Camper who Cassie has worked with in the past and was so called on to do this record. Matrimony also includes a surprise rap appearance and collaboration by Isaac Lovelock. Lovelock has not done any rap collaborations since his last appearance on Spitset early in 2015. This record serves as the final note or testament before the ending of the album and story. "Matrimony" (song) raps up the songs elements and themes into one and gives the album a solidified ending. The record was originally recorded in December of 2015, but after Cassie had the idea to bring in a male vocal the song wasn't done until early February. This prompted Cassie Valentine to tentatively push the album back from it's original Valentine's day album date.

For the song, which is about the downfall of a commitment and marriage bringing in a male vocal was almost eminent. The record pits a male and female against each other as they spill out their feelings and differences over laid back, yet soulful and captivating production. Production wise, the song plays with a bare bones of R&B with it's piano led beat that sets Cassie’s captivating, angelic vocals as the centerpiece. Casse looks back on years of love and betray in an angry lullaby like style that delivers its message in volumes with prowess in Cassie's vocals. Isaac joins in, playing the counterpart in the song. He raps his verse with pure grit, as he gives his side of the story and defends himself. This isn't the regular rap collaboration where the rapper does a quick opening or ending of a song. Instead, Isaac takes on three separate tracks of the record giving "Matrimony" a true collaborative story like feeling with a beginning, middle, and ending. The fact that Cassie and Isaac have such chemistry over the record, it ends the album on a beautiful note.

The record is rumored to be released the next single from "Matrimony"

The day you came back to me,
Is a week after I found you cheating on us.
Now all of a sudden, you ask me to come back?
What kind of sucker do you take me for?

Love is like an ocean. How so?
It can keep pulling you back and forth,
Making you toss and turn until you’ve just about had enough.
So stop making me say it twice, because it’s just too much to comprehend.

I thought this was suppose to be our matrimony
Lately this shit then became so damn unholy
Boy, after all these years come to find out you just a phony?
My heart is so broken, I don't feel the pain anymore
It's time for my heart to mend, no need in working things out
Just pack your bags, I'm signing those papers
I thought this was suppose to be our matrimony
I thought this was suppose to be our matrimony

Oh, why can’t you just get the message?
Can’t you see I’m busy right now.
Or more specifically, every time you are around.
Please just continue on your way.
It’s the same every day with you,
Five days a week, with the day not ending soon enough.
Or if I can get any more unlucky,
You just so happen to visit my house on Saturday just as well.

Love is like an ocean. How so?
It can keep pulling you back and forth,
Making you toss and turn until you’ve just about had enough.
So stop making me say it twice, because it’s just too much to comprehend.

I thought this was suppose to be our matrimony

Yeah can you tell me why I hate myself?
Better yet, can you tell me why I blame myself?
Cuz for me to take the blame would mean that I’m pretending
Just to protect you it’s the truth that I’m bending
Every scenario it’s always you I’m defending
Why the hell you gotta be so condescending
You walking out on me? I hate that ending
So I’m gonna rewrite it, revise and edit

Oh really?

This time I won’t take a single ounce of credit
For you turning your back on me as if we were nothing
If that’s what you think let me show you something
You see all these pictures in my photo album?
You have those same photos or did you forget about em?
I look at em’ every day, I can’t live without em’
Those are cold, hard proof it’s kinda hard to doubt em’
I’ll admit, memories can sometimes be exaggerated a little
And humans like to lie, the truth is somewhere in the middle
But I shouldn’t have to fiddle
With proving that we were real because
I know that you know, I loved to the moon yo’

Oh, why can’t you just get the message?
Can’t you see I’m busy right now.
Or more specifically, every time you are around.
Please just continue on your way.

I thought this was suppose to be our matrimony

You can act like you don’t care but our connection will be missed
So don’t get pissed off at me when you go to reminisce
And realize that all you got left of us is memories
It’ll hurt when you remember me
To add insult to injury
You’re gonna be all alone, how’s that for security?

I thought this was suppose to be our matrimony
I thought this was suppose to be our matrimony
Just pack your bags, I'm signing those papers

AliyaRose: Yaaaaaas! I love how you created a R&B Album, how it's actually supposed to be! I think I'm gonna take a few notes, to create a R&B to atleast 1/4 of the greatness that is 'Matrimony'! Really, great job with everything! I have no Idea which song is my favorite, because almost ALL of them make me feel some type of way! Lots of love x

Valentina: Giiiirl you brought the fire with this album! I admit R&B isn't what I listen to a lot, but when it's done right, ooooh is it done right heh. I've never really delved into your stuff before, but this album has shown me the light and made me repent tbh cause it's fuckin awesome, why've I been sleepin on you?! This record has the perfect mix of gentler tracks and straight-up bops, while also giving me some queen of interlude Janet vibes. Probably my favourite record of the year. Yeah, 'nough fangirling... kay, bye. :)
