I have no Idea which song is my favorite, because almost ALL of them make me feel some type of way! Lots of love x Cassie: Sweetie, that means so much to me! That's exactly what I wanted to do with Matrimony. Create a body of work that many others can hopefully take to and maybe even learn from. I think your new album will be amazing. You have so much potential! Thanks so much Aliya xoxo Originally Posted by: GirlSpice Valentina: Giiiirl you brought the fire with this album! I've never really delved into your stuff before, but this album has shown me the light and made me repent tbh cause it's fuckin awesome, why've I been sleepin on you?! This record has the perfect mix of gentler tracks and straight-up bops, while also giving me some queen of interlude Janet vibes. Probably my favourite record of the year. Yeah, 'nough fangirling... kay, bye. :) Cassie Valentine: Ayyyy! I love when to hear when new people discover my music and are impressed! I'm glad I've been able to do that Valentina. That's all I really want, to make some good music and bops for everyone to enjoy, not just R&B lovers! So for someone like you who doesn't listen to much R&B to speak so highly of an album by me is a huge compliment ❤️ Originally Posted by: Atonic Records Chaelin: What a great piece of work. I love that you brought R&B back to the mainstream media, and I'm also glad you mixed the R&B genre with other genres as well, a really smart move. The album is really refreshing, most new R&B albums sometimes sound bland but this album keeps you hooked from the beginning. Good Job girl! xoxo Cassie: Thanks Chaelin! xoxo I don't really think R&B ever left the mainstream media, I just think it hasn't been executed properly. I chose to have fun with this album but stick to a formula im familiar all the while making it fresh for people to enjoy. So sweet :)
IN STORES NOW - "HURT" [Request & Stream] Genre: R&B, Dancehall, Reggae-pop Songwriters: Cassie Valentine, Sandra Cosy, Drew Westbrook Producers: Boi-1da Hurt is the second track coming from Cassie Valentine's third studio album "Matrimony". The track follows the album opener in "Hungry Heart". Hurt also features a rap verse from popular rap musician Drew Westbrook and will be released as a a promotional record and single shortly before Matrimony is released. The record was written by Cassie Valentine, Sandra Cosy and of course, Drew Westbrook and produced by Boi-1da. Hurt was initially sent to Cassie in late 2015 by Boi-1da and was one of the final records recorded and mixed for the album, after Cassie recorded the album the idea to a have a rapper on the song came after. The song was initially suppose to be a solo record but after hearing a song by Drew Westbrook on the radio as Cassie drove to the studio, she had an amazing idea of possibly having him join the track since they've never worked on music together. Shortly after Cassie got in contact with Drew, who was exuberant to work with Cassie. She sent the track over to Drew and just a few days later, he sent the song back and the record was finalized. The two share much chemistry on the track as their voices seem to sound well together. Hurt is among the catchiest and funner aspects of Cassie's previous singles. It has a a synth-infused reverie that sounds like a dancehall song as Cassie slurs over Boi-1da’s beat in a patois, repeating the titular refrain over the catchy beats that will most likely get caught in your heard as you repeat "Hurt" over and over again. Cassie explains that a guy has a hold on her and keeps hurting her but there's just something about him that just keeps her around whether its his eyes, the way he puts it down in the bedroom or anything along those lines. he questions why he does the things he does and why he has her so hurt. She realizes the things she does she just can't seem to get away from him. After, Drew Westbrook comes on with a catchy rap verse before Cassie resings the chorus to end off the catchy record. Quote:Hurt has such an important spot on Matrimony and the Matrimony story that I am telling. This record hits the aspect of love and commitment that is estranged but we keep finding ourselves going back. It happens so much in Matrimony and in many regular, deep relationships too. You know the person is no good for you and you know you have many problems but they just have this hold on you that keeps you going back or keeps you from leaving them. In this record, I haven't found the strength yet to walk and or realize my self worth so I let another man take advantage of that and that's what's being explained on Hurt. Some of the reason why I stick around will be explained on the next track Neck Kisses. As for Hurt, it's a really catchy record that I know people will be able to enjoy dancing too, but lyrically it's so much more. I truly thank Boi for producing such a reggae tinged record and Drew for lending his helping hand on a great verse. I really enjoyed working with him.
Cassie Drew WestbrookHurt, hurt, hurt, hurt, hurt, hurt You really got me hurt, hurt, hurt, hurt, hurt, hurt You treat me like I'm dirt, dirt, dirt, dirt, dirt, dirt I swear I'm bout to walk, walk, walk, walk, walk, walk Then I'm nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah But ya time tock, tock, tock, tock, tocked
Those eyes, when they first stared in to mine Cold as ice, it almost stopped time, I needed time to step back, to see what I was facing, I needed someone to stop me from chasing The person who didn't care the person who'd leave me broken. Nobody stopped me, they left me on the path With a bad ending, a morbid disaster
Your polite act got the best of me, Your pretty lies drowned me like I was in the sea You got me under a strong spell, I can't break out cause I love you so well Your soothing voice only wants a game, Oh, I'll never love someone the same And now you got me...
Hurt, hurt, hurt, hurt, hurt, hurt You really got me hurt, hurt, hurt, hurt, hurt, hurt You treat me like I'm dirt, dirt, dirt, dirt, dirt, dirt I swear I'm bout to walk, walk, walk, walk, walk, walk Then I'm nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah The way you put it down, down, down, down, down You keep me comin' round, round, round, round
Your eyes, oh, I didn't see the demons in them, A spark of trouble ran through my veins, But I must have liked it, Cause I never took my eyes off you again.
Why did I ever think you'd be my happily ever after? Why was it you? Why not someone else? Why did I fall in to your trap, And not try to get out? Why couldn't I see? You weren't good enough for me? Ever since the start, I've been asking myself Why you got me ...
Hurt, hurt, hurt, hurt, hurt, hurt You really got me hurt, hurt, hurt, hurt, hurt, hurt You treat me like I'm dirt, dirt, dirt, dirt, dirt, dirt I swear I'm bout to walk, walk, walk, walk, walk, walk Then I'm nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah The way you put it down, down, down, down, down You keep me comin' round, round, round, round, round
I admit, I ain't nothing but a hound Apply a bit of pressure when I know you're losing ground Got you in my hands and I don't want to put you down Either I'm never there or I just don't make a sound I don't fix our problems, I just cover them in more mistakes Just when I think you don't see right through me, you do a double take Still you always getting hurt by the things I don't say Love's a bad religion and I keep playing with your faith Fate is all about the faults, but that's never why you stay I love you through the night but neglect you in the day Put you in positions and then I put you in your place I never come home but I'm always touching base I go crazy every time you turn around, just don't turn your back on me When I get you alone I'ma prove that you want me It's been a hot minute since we focused on the bond, B Used to have a dream that I'd be your Dagwood and you'd be my Blondie And I'd be the only one to blame if it never came true You wonder why I'm never around, well, I just never want to see you...
Hurt, hurt, hurt, hurt, hurt, hurt You really got me hurt, hurt, hurt, hurt, hurt, hurt You treat me like I'm dirt, dirt, dirt, dirt, dirt, dirt I swear I'm bout to walk, walk, walk, walk, walk, walk Then I'm nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah But ya time tock, tock, tock, tock, tocked Hurt, hurt, hurt, hurt, hurt, hurt You really got me hurt, hurt, hurt, hurt, hurt, hurt You treat me like I'm dirt, dirt, dirt, dirt, dirt, dirt I swear I'm bout to walk, walk, walk, walk, walk, walk Then I'm nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah The way you put it down, down, down, down, down You keep me comin' round, round, round, round, round
