Sunflower is the debut album from the Souix-Cuban-American actress and model Dakota Sanchez. The album is to be released on May 17th by the newest indie label Safe Haven Records. It serves as a surprise from the model who no one was aware could sing. There were no singles released prior to the album due to the singer being reportedly "unable to choose a favorite" from off of the album. The nine tracks consists of a theme of love, family and success, but mostly love. The album was co-written by Dakota, Anniken Dahl-Smith, Aikya Balan, and both members of Rum & Coke, Rum also happening to be the cousin of Sanchez. The name is inspired by it's title track where Dakota sings, " I can't be your Sunflower, I just cant.." stating that she's too independent to survive off of anything but herself, whether or not it's for the better.

The album was recorded in California at Out of This World Studios with Dakota's cousin, Rum, being the sole producer under the title, FancyÑ. The early beginnings of this album started as demos from her famous friends. Tracks such as Dress Up, Dancing Shoes, John Smith and Guns & Bandages were but demos from Rum & Coke, Lotus and Aikya Balan. "These were all amazing tracks that they just threw away for absolutely no reason. I guess I loved them so much that I decided to release them myself." Sunflower was at first meant to be what Sanchez describes as a "Soundcloud EP" but after Dakota and her friends began started writing more songs, she signed a recording contract with Safe Haven Records and officially made it her debut album.

"I don't think I'm going to become a full-time singer," the busy woman says about embarking her newest career. "But of course this is but a debut. Making this album was so much fun and I really hope to do it again sometime soon."
