Ok so I'm not that into these " Disney Channel Teen Stars" performing live. But I don't judge someone just because they come from the Disney Channel.

She had her first live performance at "Dancing With The Stars" and she is being highly criticized for her performance.

First of all I do ADMIRE artists who sing LIVE.

-This is her first live performance (from what I know)
-Selena Gomez did not mime in her performance (Meaning she sang live with millions of viewers watching)
-The only thing she doesn't sing is the high notes (Which is understandable, she isn't the best singer and she just started)
- She has her moments in the performance when you go like "Oh no" But it is not horrible like people say because it is her first live performance.

What happened to the days when they found genuine musical talent :( If you're not gonna sound great in front of an audience this big, go back and practice until you will.

She doesn't sound horrible. It's funny many people call someone talentless when they don't have any at all. I'm pretty sure she practiced. She doesn't sound that bad. At least she sang live and didn't mime a song like this one. She's a little of pitch at MANY parts and she can't sing the high notes. But her voice is unique. She has a very edgy voice and I think that makes up for it. ITS HER FIRST LIVE performance cut her some slack.

BTW, I'm not a fan, i'm just saying i general cuz I was watching this on TV that night and I saw her performance and I thought she did all right. Not great but not Horrible either.

her first live performance ever was in front of a huge national audience?

whatever happend to finding genuine talent and then helping it along as apposed to saying... hey she will do!

this is excatly why i normally only like bands that get a break years after touring and practising and honing their songs...
I hate it when people see me at the supermarket and they are like:

One does not need to be talented to recognise talent, or the lack thereof.

Now, I'm no expert in Disney Channel stars, but it seems to me that if you've heard one, you've heard them all.

Disney: "Hey parents, do your kids like cutting edge popular music? Of course they do, but you don't think it sends the right message? Here's a sanitised and safe equivalent for them, guaranteed entertainment, wholesome All-American values, and absolutely no risk of stimulating independent thought."

Parents: "Thanks Disney, for stepping to do our jobs for us."

I'm not talking about you toto head. I'm talking about most people who criticize her and they don't even have a musical talent themselves.

I've taking a listen to her song "Falling", and noticed it really isn't that hard to sing but I can understand why she had trouble with it. It's not her type of song, she should sing something more soft and less edgy. I don't think she could handle that song yet. But what these nuckle head like "Rincewind" don't really look at is the actual feeling you get when you perform. She started off her first televised performance with an edgy song and that's what messed her up. Imagine that you know millions of people are viewing your performance, you are going to be hell a nervous no matter who you are. Until I don't see Rincewind pull her performance or any performance when millions are watching, I don't want to see him talking.

So what, we're supposed to heap pity on her because she performed badly under pressure? And also we can't criticise something we haven't got first hand experience of? Oh well then, I guess We should forgive John Wayne Gacy. After all, we don't know what it's like to rape and murder young boys. Who are we to judge him? WHO ARE WE?

Yes! We are suppose to, its her fist performance, and people shouldn't be so harsh on her.

Also, I appreciate you trying to sound intelligent on that second part, but that's a whole different ball game. That is something that is "mentally sick" (in my opinion). I did meant that we can't judge something we haven't gotten first hand experience, but raping or murdering young boys is something that is illegal and is written as bad. What Selena Gomez did isn't bad and there is no rules or law that says her performance is bad. Basically what I'm trying to say is that the example you used has nothing to do with what we are talking about.

And the ridiculous hyperbole of my statement was in fact to point out the ridiculousness of yours. As if we are personally attacking someone. The main criticism is of the Disney Channel for pushing people like her into doing things like this, packaging and presenting performers in big media spectacles, whether they're prepared for it or not.

Well in your opinion my statement was ridiculous (many people would agree and disagree with my point)

How do you know is the Disney Channel that is pushing her?? I'm pretty sure she is doing something that she likes to do. Maybe she did get offers (money), but I'm pretty sure she likes doing what she does because you could see it in her performance. So what if they did anyway, why change your attitude because of it. I'm pretty sure many kids love what she does, isn't that what matters. It's not like she is setting a bad example for kids.

I understand if people give "constructive critisism"

But I don't appropriate what's bolded

"She sings horrible" (But why does she sing horrible?, what is it that you are hearing that sounds horrible, is it her voice? what about her voice that sounds horrible?)

"What a bitch, she is talentless slut" (Why is she a bitch, what has she done to do? Why is she a slut?, What does that have to do with her performance?)

That's what I'm seeing from most of the negativity that's being put against her. I think that is just "hating" on someone.

She's not exactly a bad singer, just awful song. Plus she isn't any different to any other Disney artists. Plus it all felt a little cheesy.

ALSO, that videos terribly out of sync.

so if you say she did bad because she was in front of a great audience, why did she did it anyway? you usually know when you are ready to do something, no matter how talented you are you cant just stand in a tv show watched by thousands or millions of people when you have never performed to smaller audiences, and come on she is not that talented

i believe my point steph was more along the lines of.... why do big music companies push people who have never performed live before according to you. onto national television....

it makes no sense whatsoever. It makes much more sense to give the artist... if you can call them that, live performances beforehand so s/he can build up experience of live performances and thus do better on live national television. If you are not capable of understanding a post please do me a favour and don't respond to it...

Soo.. I'm sat here waiting for Steph's example of her musical talent, I mean, to say that she didn't do that bad she surely has to have at least some first hand experience...

Why would she have to start low (As in crowds of 100 people) when she is already a mega star. THAT doesn't make sense. And she is starting kinda low, I just read in wikipedia that she is going on tour, she will be doing shows in the house of blues. And who would turn down a performance in Dancing With The Stars.

If I'm not responding in an adult manner than neither are you, Old.gregg, Gildermershina.
The comments I made are from the youtube comments I see and what I hear around. SO YOU STOP PUTTING WORDS IN MY MOUTH.

The real question should be:
What's the point of Forkboy posting on here when all he has to say is this

Thats the problem, it is entirely manufactured, she is a mega star without being able to perform to a big audience
