Give Me Something is the debut single from British production and songwriting duo, MakeAScene. The duo comprised of Maya Claxton and Brian Appleton, two childhood friends who started up the musical project back in late 2010. As well as writing and co-producing, Maya is also a demo singer and her vocals feature on their debut track. MakeAScene are a well known to name to many fans of the popular boy band, Weekend, as they are signed to their label Five Pesky Kids and have produced many tracks for the group. Give Me Something is their first release as a standalone act and they have confirmed that there is no plan on making a full album or launching a career as leading musicians. This track was solely released on the intention of people getting to hear a piece of work that they are proud of. It features guest vocals from Weekend member, longtime friend and employer, Oscar Ward - credited by only his first name for the release.

Give Me Something tells the story of a person seeking the love of someone who is constantly showing interest and dropping signals but never fully confesses how they feel. They would rather continue the thrill of the chase rather than committing. The narrator tells us that this almost mythical, magical person is not like anyone else on this planet. It goes beyond them having good morals and respectable beliefs. The person that they are trying to hold on to is almost God-like to them and the answer to all their prayers in this troubled world. There's also been speculation that the song is literally about finding God and not a lover. With lines like "Can't you sanctify me under your waterfalls?" and "Take me to your rivers, I'm born again and ready to believe", it is possible that this is the case.

The track was written by Maya, Brian and critically acclaimed singer-songwriter Christopher Hudson earlier on in the year with the intention of passing it on to an act signed to Pesky. The rough, original version of the song was far more hip-hop and urban influenced. While elements still remain in the final product, it was far less electropop inspired. In the early days, Give Me Something was originally planned on being sent out to Elyar Black who is recording material for his second album. After tweaking and manipulating the overall sound of the record, it was deemed a little too "left field" for a commercial pop act. The song was then passed on to Victoria Black, who has a darker sound, but the singer ultimately passed it on and stated that it lacked the "bite" and "soaring" sound that will be heard on her third studio album. With nobody taking the song, it was left untouched for months until label head Oscar Ward discovered the demo with Maya's vocals on it. After striking up a conversation and learning about the multiple rejections of the song, Ward offered to lend his vocals and persuaded MakeAScene to release it "just for fun". When reworking the song again, Oscar completely changed the lyrics of the middle section, which he would ultimately go on to sing. Aside from free streaming solo songs, this is Oscar's first official track outside of Weekend that one can purchase. This is also the first time that word has used an explicit word in a song.
