LUXX (pronounced as 'luks', 'luhh' or 'luck') is an independent girl group formed in 2016 by Anniken Dahl-Smith. The group consists of 3 women, Instagram famous Melanie Burnes, backup vocalist Dawn Pope and model Zalika Williams. The trio met through Instagram, becoming good friends on social media after bonding over their love for hair and music. Living on different corners of the country, in 2016 the 3 girls planned a trip together that would change their lives forever. Melanie Burnes posted a 15 second video of themselves harmonizing during this trip and the small clip caught the attention of the talent manager Anniken Dahl-Smith who had previously worked with Dawn Pope. It took some convincing but LUXX had officially began pursuing a music career in August of 2016. It was around this time that they created a SoundCloud account, posting renditions of their favorite songs every few months. In January of 2017, LUXX posted their first original song on SoundCloud, "Blue Boy", and launched a gofundme for their music, confirming that they've been busy working on a debut album with record producers FancyN and DrewWB.

Melanie Burnes was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma where she spent most of her childhood. Growing up, Mellie always viewed herself as an outcast, her unique sense of style, deep love for nature and wild 3C hair making her stand out from all of her peers. What she lacked then in social skills, she made up for in the arts, painting, writing and singing being lifelong hobbies of hers. At the age of 15, Mellie's family made a big move to Los Angeles and by 16, Mellie was pregnant with a son whom she named Emmanuelle Burnes. Her adolescente pregnancy forced her to drop out of school, making it easier to care for her child as a single mother but harder to envision a future for herself as a woman. It wasn't long before R&B star Tisha Jackson began to rise to fame and suddenly Mellie found herself being mistaken for a megastar, the two having no relation but looking awfully alike. This gave the young mother an opportunity to provide for her son, gaining millions of followers on Instagram and using her looks to land sponsorships.

Dawn Pope was born in Daytona, Florida but her mother moved to Jacksonville, Florida immediately after. This move was due to the death of Dawn's father and though she had only been in Daytona for a few months, Jacksonville was where Poppy resided for 19 years. During this stay, Poppy grew up in a strict baptist household with 3 other siblings, which led her to have an extremely rebellious nature by the time she hit her teens. One thing she never opposed from the religious upbringing was the powerful gospel music that was always played. Since a very young age she happily sung in the choir, enjoying being apart of making soulful music thoroughly. After consecutively winning 3 high school talent shows, Poppy had decided she wanted to become a professional recording artist after graduating. She did just that, voice acting for small gigs and doing numerous radio jingles in the beginning of her career. It wasn't long before she moved to Atlanta, Georgia where she hoped to find more opportunities for herself. There she would begin to do backing vocals for numerous artists, her most notable credentials being providing vocals for Stephanie Fierce, Coke and most recently, Aikya Balan.

Zulika Williams was born and raised in New York City. Orphaned at a young age, Zuli was taken in by her grandmother who taught her to put her faith in religion and to stay true to both her Jamaican roots and black roots. She grew up living below the poverty line, working under the table jobs since she was 14 years old to take care of her grandmother who's only income were social security checks. Ever since she was a little girl, Zuli was known for her straight-no-chaser personality, something she developed after years of being picked on for her thick Jamaican accent, her use of patois and her dark skin. Despite constantly being reminded that she did not fit the beauty standard throughout her entire childhood, Zuli was scouted by a famous photographer who helped her kick start a modelling career. She has appeared in many magazines, including DAZED, The Fader and OOB.
