“Nomads” is a track written and recorded by American alternative rock trio 'Riot! In The Boulevard' as part of their sixth studio album “Young Cardinals”, set to be released in 2019 following a string of unexpected delays. It will mark the eighth and final official single from the album and is expected to be the final single released from the band as the band are set to go on an indefinite hiatus following the release of 'Young Cardinals' later in the year. The release of the single comes later than planned, following personal issues with lead singer 'Amy Meyer' in the summer of 2018 where she was checked into a rehabilitation facility due to mental health issues stemming from her long-term suffering of depression and anxiety of which she had been taking prescribed pills since her early teenage years.
It marks the final single to be dropped prior to the album and it's been confirmed by Studio60 Records that the bands long anticipated final album with the label will be released in the very near future. It was initially expected in July/August 2018 and then later expected around November 2018 but several delays and the bands insistence on taking more time to perfect the record and add more content to the record due to it being likely the final album from the group as a whole.
In terms of the actual song, it's a slower paced song with a driving guitar riff. Lyrically it's a track drenched in nostalgia and it feels in places like the band always knew they were going to release this one as their final single with it's emphasis on looking back at their career together. It begins with a soft and sombre drum beat and a strong but solemn guitar sound, Amy sings with a yearning and with a tinge of sadness throughout. Including references that their fans will certainly pick up on and even her recent rehab stint “If you'd have spent seven years with guys in a van you'd have gone a little crazy too.”
But it's power comes in the chorus that must have clearly been designed to bring millions of Riot! fans to tears as Amy herself appears to struggle with as she sings, “Lived our lives like nomads/Always running away/Little did we know/That this would all be gone someday.” not only referencing the fact that they've been touring together solidly since the age of 16 and that's all about to stop but also the use of the term nomad which is surely a callback to the label Nomad Records which were the first label to sign up the youngsters. It's a track full of emotion from a band that have become famous for it. Amy has managed to capture our hearts and minds through her words over the years and it'll be tough to see an industry where the latest Riot! In The Boulevard release isn't highly anticipated.
“Nomads” was written and recorded in November and December of 2018 by Amy Meyer, Adam Benjamin and Jason Greenberg and recorded at Village Studios in Los Angeles, California. Produced by the band alongside Cara Zayn and Christian Fallon, it'll be released through Studio60 Records on January 26, 2019.
LYRICS;“You know nothing of the break and you know nothing of our story
If you'd have spent seven years with guys in a van you'd have gone a little crazy too
And it's funny when people ask me, was it all worth it
I don't hesitate for a second, I got to conquer the world with my friends
And I'd go back in a second and do it all over again
And again and again and again
Until my throat was dry and my lungs were empty
We've been through good times and bad
We've been through plenty
Life is a little different now and I find myself growing older
And those around me are growing older too
I have to admit, I sometimes take late night drives through Nevada
In the quiet hours of the night while the world is asleep
And it's crazy how Canary Way used to be home to all five of us
I know it's not much but it holds so many memories
Wrote most of that first record at my parents house on the corner of Canary
The memories remain but somehow it feels empty
Families and friends have moved on
Some of them still with us
But a devastating number of them have gone
Lived our lives like nomads
Always running away
Little did we know
That this would all be gone someday
Lived our lives like nomads
Always running away
Little did we know
That this would all be gone someday
It's funny when people say that we actually somehow made it
But there's more to life than just being famous
Don't get me wrong, I know that I've been truly blessed
But this hasn't always been the path to happiness
And now that I'm older
I'm finally starting to understand
That there's more to travelling the world in a little pop-punk band
But I'd only trade all of this in for one thing
I'd trade this all in
For the people that we're missing
Lived our lives like nomads
Always running away
Little did we know
That this would all be gone someday
Lived our lives like nomads
Always running away
Little did we know
That this would all be gone someday”
