“If Only They Could See You Now” is a song written and recorded by American popstar 'Madison'. It's her first single released since 2016's “Anxiety” following a break from the music industry and marks the comeback of the young star who previously went by the moniker 'Maddie Urie', she's now dropped the nick-name and surname and is using her first name in a move which symbolises a complete new era in her music career. At just 25 years old, Maddie has already been in the music industry for nine years but productivity has always been an issue as two albums in nine years proves. But Madison is hard at work on her third solo album despite being currently unsigned. She was previously signed as part of a revolution of young stars at 'Song to Love and Die By', but following the departure of Cara Zayn she was dropped by the label.
It's thought that the release of this single is done in the hopes of finding a new record label in which to put out her next album as it shows a new side to both her music and lyrics, giving her songs more of a unique vibe in order for the artist to stand out more than previously.
The track brings a heavy synth-pop influence which gives more of a distinctive feeling towards her track, where one of the criticisms previously for Madison's music was that they were well written and enjoyable songs but there wasn't anything distinctive enough to make people come back and give it repeat listens. With this track, it's clear that Madison has tightened up her songwriting, the long wordy verses that she previously favoured have now been replaced by sleeker and more accessible verses while still keeping the storytelling aspects to her music, which matched with her soft and instantly recognizable vocal delivery creates a powerful combination. Early reviews of the track were positive with Pitchfork stating, “She may have started and stuttered throughout her career, but with the barren wasteland that is the music industry at the moment, this is the perfect time for a new star to be born in 'Madison.'” and Billboard similarly reacting positively, “We can see an artist on the up now. All that buzz that we heard back in 2016 is finally coming to fruition and we could have a pop juggernaut on our hands here.”
The track was written by Madison at the turn of the new year and was recorded in February at the world famous 'Record Plant Studios' in Los Angeles, California, funded by her management 'Rogue Industries' the track was produced by Madison alongside her friend and renowned producer and personality and former label boss, 'Cara Zayn'. The track will be put out by her management company in an attempt to create some buzz for the artist who is currently looking to sign with a record label for this new era in her career. The track is released on 20 April, 2019 and will be available via CD Single, Digital Download, Weekly Airplay and will be made available to all streaming services.
Lyrics;“You were dancing in your Golden Knights jersey all around the room
Your eyes lit up like the neon lights
Of that Vegas town where you were born
We'd light one up and you'd lay your head on my chest
It turns me on like only you can do
Because deep down
I know nobody else has ever seen this side to you
Velvet sheets, fairy lights, hip-hop beats and getting high
You said this is where our life will truly begin
Your soft tender touch, bite my lip and embrace the sin
I'm so glad you opened the door and let me in
I've tried to keep my cards close to my chest
But a Vegas girl like you knows how to win these games the best
I can try to deny it
But I've got a reputation for talking shit
I know you can see through this
I think you kinda like it
If only they could see you now
Getting high
And going down
If only they could see you now
Getting high
And going down
Velvet sheets, fairy lights, hip-hop beats and getting high
You said this is where our life will truly begin
Your soft tender touch, bite my lip and embrace the sin
I'm so glad you opened the door and let me in
I've tried to keep my cards close to my chest
But a Vegas girl like you knows how to win these games the best
I can try to deny it
But I've got a reputation for talking shit
I know you can see through this
I think you kinda like it”
