Tick Toc is a song by American singer-songwriter Amy-Jayne featuring Cameron Jacobson. The song was released worldwide on March 2nd and serves as the first single from Amy's long-awaited third studio album which as of yet hasn't got a confirmed title. The album is scheduled for release in Summer 2020 which will mark 5 years since the release of Amy's previous studio effort "Cosmic Love" which was released back in 2015 and failed commercially to make an impact like her debut album in 2013 had done. "Tick Toc" sees Amy return to her more pop roots that made her debut album a success, the song also features Cameron Jacobson and marks the 18 year-olds first ever appearance on a commercially released record. "Tick Toc is noted for it's modern pop vibe with a hint of an urban vibe courtesy of Jacobson's rapped verse. Lyrically the song details a love that has gone cold and somewhat hints and the pair of lovers being bad for each other. The song has been compared to releases by Gemma Kane and Suzie.
The core of the song was written all the way back in 2016. The song originally had a more laid back smooth R&B sound but after many years of just lingering the song was re-recorded by Amy-Jayne into the dancy pop song that we hear now for the release. The reason for the re-recording was because Amy wanted a more pop sound for her new album and to also add the verse of Cameron Jacobson's into the mix, which added a hint of the R&B flavour back into the track but kept it within the pop sounding vision that Amy had in mind for the track.
Critical reception of the song so far has been mostly positive with Dylan Mial of BlogCritics gave the song a positive review, saying "It's impossible to refrain from any head-bopping or foot-tapping while listening to this bubblegum-pop tune. “Tick Toc” is a great return to form for the singer". Bradley Stern of Muumuse gave the song a positive review, saying "Tick Toc" is full of punchy, guitar-driven hooks, slamming synthesizers and supremely crafted earworm melodies. It's big, beautiful and bold — just like a song called “Tick Toc” should sound. Amy better start packing her bags, ’cause she's heading to the top of the charts again. But this time, she's bringing along a young hunk with her." Aaron McDermott of PopCrush wrote "the song is full of life and it is great to hear Amy back on the scene again". He also praised Jacobson's input in the song calling him. "A young man who's bursting with talent". Otherwise however haven't been so positive to Jacobson's input in the song with Melaine Geoff writing that the song "is catchy and punchy just like a pop song should be, but was the input from the young man really needed in the song."
TICK TOC (FT. CAMERON JACOBSON)Always hard to use the past
When I must talk bout how it was
We thought that it would last
But now you’re gone with my love
Now I must open my eyes
About the fact that the story dies
I should move on with my life learn to just say goodbye
In my head it’s just like tick tok
It’s on repeat it doesn’t stop
Til I die inside til I realize
You won’t be mine
In my head it’s just like tick tok
The sound of a million fallen rocks
Getting louder with time til I say goodbyeThere is nothing to save
There is nothing to say
Take off the picture from the frame
Blow the candles out, stop the flame
We were fine but it goes wrong
Our love isn’t enough, isn’t it?
We stop the tape, it’s all gone
Nothing lasts, I should have remembered that
In my head it’s just like Tick tok
It’s on repeat it doesn’t stop
Til I die inside til I realize
You won’t be mine
In my head it’s just like tick tok
The sound of a million fallen rocks
Getting louder with time til I say goodbye[Cameron]
I don't wanna bite my tongue
Bitch I might say to much
You kept saying I'm playing to much
But girl you better come back to us
I got all this bling on my wrists but they feel like cuffs
Money out my pocket you still want it, want girl
Sleep all day party all night, ain't no way for a mom to act right?
I can do what I want bitch, don't have to tell me twice.Goodbye my love, goodbye to us
But don’t forget what we used to be
Goodbye my love, goodbye to us
Someone’s gonna make you happy
In my head it’s just like tick tok
It’s on repeat it doesn’t stop
Til I die inside til I realize
You won’t be mine
In my head it’s just like tick tok
The sound of a million fallen rocks
Getting louder with time til I say goodbyeSOUNDS LIKE:
