Artist: Cameron Jacobson
Title: Pompeii
Length: 3:20
Genre(s): Electo-pop, Dance-Pop
Label: Independent
Writers: Cameron Jacobson
Producers: Cameron Jacobson, Dominic Brown
Taken From: Perfectly Damaged

"Pompeii" is the first single by 18 year-old American singer-songwriter Cameron Jacobson. The 18 year-old rose to prominence after featuring on the single "Tick Tock" which was released earlier this year by Amy-Jayne and topped the charts for a week. Following the success of that song Cameron began to work on his own music to try and expand on his growing fame. "Pompeii" is a pop track which was written by Cameron himself, the song talks about finding love in a foreign country when you wasn't even looking for a romance. In terms of production that was also mostly handled by Cameron himself, but was fine tuned by Dominic Brown. The track is a pop track which showcases Cameron's singing ability, perviously he'd only showcased his rapping ability on Amy's track. The track has a run time of three minutes and twenty seconds and is rumoured to be taken from an upcoming project called "Perfectly Damaged" however as of yet it is unclear whether this is a full album or a EP that will introduce Cameron to the world of music.

The song is a pop song at it's core, but blends in a lot of modern dance and electronic music. Strangely enough the song also has a very European vibe the song sounds like its been plucked out of a country like Greece or France. The song talks about love and romance being found in the most unusual of places, another country. Considering the track was written by Cameron himself it's quite surprising that he appears to have quite an grasp on just what exactly love is, remember his only 18 years old after all. That aside the tracks production is a standout, the beat of this song will make you wanna get up and dance. For such a young man the future definitely looks bright for Cameron if he keeps pumping out tracks like this one.

Critical reception of the song has been mixed. Ella Beckman of PopCrush wrote. "Cameron is attractive, the song is catchy but the use of auto-tune is a bit much". James Cornall worte a similar article on the song saying "As much as this is a great song, a great first impression of Cameron, maybe he should of stuck to the rapping roots because though the vocals sound good how much of them have been altered". Celeste Bonfries however gave the song a 9/10 in her review saying. "I've heard a lot of others say to much auto-tune blah blah but doesn't every artist do that nowadays. The song is catchy the beat is danceable his 18 years-old his got time grow professionally and this is one heck of a great first step." Tristan MacManus of the Buzzfeed wrote. "The production work on this song is top notch, the way the song flows is top notch and I mean what girl isn't going to fall in love with Cameron Jacobson, his cute, his young and he can not only rap but sing too." The worst review of all came from Ryan DeMoinet who wrote. "Copy and paste, copy and paste can any of the younger generation come up with anything original, "Pompeii" sounds exactly like thousands of other songs out there right now by artist not far from Cameron's age, if this was the best song he had to offer as a debut, he might need to re-think his blossoming career, before it falls flat on it's face". Gina Mayor wrote. "Is it something we've heard before yeah, but who cares this song is a bop no matter how you look at it, girls are gonna go wild for a cutie like Cameron plus his vocal delivery works so well over the production of the song, I can see this lifting the mood of so many young people right now in the current crisis so I say, good job!".

POMPEII

I was only meant to witness, be present at the scene
Stand back as the observer, then pretend I’d never been
Find the devil in the details, and shape them as I write
That was all that I’d intended, in Pompeii tonight

When is there ever a right time
For love born under a bad sign
‘Cause intentions always lead me straight to hell
In what way is it meant to feel right
When love’s cast under a dark light
‘Cause then she came around and my heart fell

And I don’t get it, this wasn’t my story
Not how it’s meant to play out
But this is how it’s all worked out for me
It was just a minute, I don’t even know her name
But tonight I fell in love on the edge of Pompeii

Now I’m doing stupid things, just to get a second look
There’s no way to still convince myself it’s all just for a book
She’s way out of my league, have I gone and lost my mind?
‘Cause a woman’s not what I came to Pompeii to find

When is there ever a right time
For love born under a bad sign
‘Cause my head’s screaming at me this is wrong
In what way is it meant to feel right
When love’s cast under a dark light
But all I can do is think about her when she’s gone

And I don’t get it, this wasn’t my story
Not how it’s meant to play out
But this is how it’s all worked out for me
It was just a minute, I don’t even know her name
But tonight I fell in love on the edge of Pompeii

This is some kind of crazy, not what I’m meant to feel
Could I trade up works of fantasy for something that’s real?

When is there ever a right time
For love born under a bad sign
In what way is it meant to feel right
When love’s cast under a dark light

And I don’t get it, this wasn’t my story
Not how it’s meant to play out
But this is how it’s all worked out for me
It was just a minute, I don’t even know her name
But tonight I fell in love on the edge of Pompeii

And I don’t get it, this wasn’t my story
Not how it’s meant to play out
But this is how it’s all worked out for me
It was just a minute, I don’t even know her name
But tonight I fell in love on the edge of Pompeii
