As some of you may already know, Rio De Janeiro was chosen to held the 2016 Olympics. Your thoughts on this? I'm completely angry that we were chosen. I mean, we don't even have 1% of everything that will be needed, and Madrid had 77%. In 2007 we held the Panamerican and was ridiculous. So much investment that could go to sectors like education and health (that are very poor). Besides, they all say no violence happened, but it was because the government made a deal with the biggest dealers on Rio to have "peace" for those two weeks. What happened the day after it was over, a huge shooting between rival dealers on a favela, killing lots of people. My point is, with all the crisis happening and the fact Brazil is not a rich country, will this have a positive effect? (Besides to politicians that can cover the corruption with the excitment of a World Cup in 2014 and now the Olympics).
No one can deny that it was great to hide the scandal that happened yesterday on the education sector. |

personally i think japan or madrid should have won the bid.... glad chicago didn't though.
the only possitive thing about it is that it does shine the international light onto rio, and may actually force the goverment to do some good. |

Actually it doesnt, when they happened here there was a massacre, the fun fact is that there is no one guilty and they only started searching for someone guilty 30 years later, another fun fact, there is no mention of it on our official history books info here |

Meh, if it forces them to do something, they'll probably make a deal again or paint the streets white and take all the homeless people somewhere else (historic reference). I'm sure bread will be costing $5 in the future, only on taxes to pay everything. |

ouch.... as i said. I still think Spain or Japan should have won the bid. Its funny how you never hear about things like The Night of Tlatelolco, unless you really dig, or are told about it by someone else (or at least thats what i always find). so the question we should be asking in your opinion is... Does the morality and Goverment hold up to scrutiny and are they capable of upholding the spirit of the olympics, and if not why did they win the bid, what is the international reaction going to be towards any authoritarian crack downs etc etc.... I couldn't give a fuck about the Olympics to be honest. Track & Field bores me, swimming is a crap spectator sport, as is pretty much everything else. I'll probably watch the Olympic football, but that depends on who is actually there.
I'm just grateful that Britain won't have to host it again for a good few years. What a waste of money. |

My favourite Olympic Sport is Endurance Not Watching the Olympics. It's surprisingly easy. |

,My experience of Sydney oolympics is that the cost of rents and real estate skyrocketed and never came back. The games itself was fun while it was on. Yes rio has a lot more poor and homeless to hide from the world so that job will be harder than it was in Sydney when we shipped them off to the country
Pushing the rents up has led to an increase in the cost of retail products and living in general. We pay high taxes in Sydney ever since, so don't tell me it has been paid for. I remember the montreal experience. It buys a few brownie points for encumbent politicians and provides some temporary employment, but they'll be suffering later on. Japan and spain are wealthy countires. I don't think Brasil is
So if you live in brasil buy up real estate while you still can. Or better still move to argentina or chile |

They are pretty high in Perth (not taking into account the prices in the North West...$1500 a week for one half of a dulplex!!) though I imagine on average Sydney would just beat Perth. |

The dumbasses of IOC should've chosen it to be in Chicago. Rich country, few economic problems will lead up. People over exaggerate our economic problem. People in China are too scary to even say a bad word about how they can't afford to move into another apartment, while everyone here, driving around in their BMWs from their five bedroom houses, is cryin' about how milk is a dime more expensive. |

[size=7]I'm a friend of Raphaela and I'm bad at English. So, be patient. I really think that Brazil sucks. These Olympics should not be here because there are bigger problems to solve.

I still want to move out, but I'm conformed that it'll take a long time until it happens, so it's better to make future plans here than moan about how fucked up my country is. What amazes me the most is that people actually think we'll be able to held a decent event, even though we're having some major troubles with violence in Rio de Janeiro lately. |
