Take It Home is a song by American recording artist Johnny Carter featuring British rapper Deneil. The song was serviced to radio and released on iTunes in a single format on July 18th 2020. "Take It Home" serves as the third single from Johnny's second studio album, "Human". The R&B and pop crossover track was initially written by Johnny himself. Production of the track was handled by acclaimed British rapper and producer, Deneil. Whilst working on the mixing and production of the song, Carter had the idea of adding a feature on the track and turning the song into a conversational piece. With Deneil already involved with the song, Johnny approached him about lending a guest verse on the record. Khan wrote and recorded his section separately soon after. The R&B track flirts with elements of pop, interjecting light "summery" guitar and subtle tropical pop influenced synths. "Take It Home" is a flirtatious conversation between the two vocalists, centred around a potential "hook up" whilst out at a club.
Before being released as a single, "Take It Home" caused some controversy when its parent album "Human" first hit the shelves. Many took issue with Johnny's drug related metaphors used throughout the song and him explicitly referencing MDMA, commonly known as ecstasy. The song then received further scrutiny for its overtly sexual content after Carter's ex-boyfriend, fellow musician Joshua Grimmie, publicly claimed that Johnny committed adulterous acts within their relationships. Following this allegation, many found the subject matter of having a one night stand to be in ill taste. Nevertheless, "Take It Home" also received acclaim for many critics, with the chemistry between Carter and Khan being praised as well as Deneil's verse being lauded and cited as "a very welcomed addition". The track has often been regarded as one of the album's standouts in multiple reviews and, before being selected as the third single, it was the highest streamed non-single from the album on Spotify.

As much as I love creating my own thing and how immensely proud I am of my work, I just love working with other artists. There's something so exciting about two or more creative words crossing over. Deneil was just a delight. He's a talented lyricist, producer and he just "gets" music. Whatever he's needed to do, he'll do it. He'll read the artist, read the vibe of the track and just hit the nail on the head as soon as he steps in the booth. Literally a one-take situation here. I didn't have to tweak anything or ask for anything more.
"The track is very laid back in sound. It's sexy and summery but not in an overly hyped way. It's very subdued, sensual. There's a real air of confidence and assertiveness here. We both sound sexy as f*ck on this track, ha! Deneil is known for having a rather harsh and biting flow, but on here he's much more reserved and almost talk-singing. He sounds real sexy if I say so myself. Just sheer swagger. I give a very similar delivery on my verses too. The lyrics are very suggestive and overly cocky. It's a lot of bravado. Very much us feeling ourselves. There's no deeper meaning behind the track. It's pretty straight forward - we're both here, we're both single, I like you and I know you like me, so....let's take it home. Sometimes you've just got to give in and get a little dirty in the booth, you know?"
