No Trouble in Paradise is a song by American singer-songwriter Layla Sanchez, now known simply as Layla. The song was released worldwide on October 7th 2020 and serves as the lead single from Sanchez's long-awaited debut studio album, which is currently untitled. "No Trouble in Paradise" is Sanchez's first musical output since 2015, following two solo singles as well as a guest appearance on Natasha Iver's "Okay". Since her departure from SYNCO and lukewarm reception to her initial releases, Layla entered a period of personal turmoil which resulted in an extended hiatus from the spotlight - shunning the studio, personal appearances and even social media for the most part. "No Trouble in Paradise" sees Layla return to the pop roots of her former girl group. As opposed to her debut solo release, this track wasn't entirely self-penned as acclaimed writers Christopher Hudson and Orion Washington also had a hand in crafting the song with the former also handling the production. Lyrically, "No Trouble in Paradise" is a love song and ode to the perfect lover after being unsuccessful and hurt in love several times before. Sanchez uses many words associated with beachscapes, claiming that her lover can make anywhere in the word feel like paradise.
Layla unexpectedly announced the song a mere two hours before its official release, taking to her Instagram account for the first time in years to post the official cover art with the caption of "7 P.M. EST". In her social media silence Layla has endured; a serious stalking incident, threats on her life, the breakdown of her long term relationship with fellow singer Austin Nimmo and a controversial fling with close friend Joshua Grimmie. Many critics and fans alike believed that Sanchez was done with music for good. The singer showed no outward interest in music until after the shock announcement, taking to Twitter and saying;
"It's been a long time, friends. These last few years have brought many tears to my eyes. Many lessons have been learned. Many mistakes have been made. Many doors have closed. Many doors have opened. By referring to the single as the "first gift", many fans are speculating that an album or several singles will soon follow this year.
ThatMusicSite Review"On paper, Layla's big musical comeback would just be another flash in the pan, end of summer, feel-good pop ditty by yet another mainstream artist. While some of those sentiments are true, with its radio-friendly appeal and hooks catchier than COVID, it is also the utmost perfect and ideal song she could serve us. Like Billy breaking out with his cocky, persona driven "Attention" or Joshua returning with the almighty "SURPRISE!" and getting absolutely everything off his chest as he entered a new chapter of his career, Layla's "No Trouble in Paradise" also ticks all of the boxes. The breezy, frothy production and the infectious melodies are a nod back to her SYNCO days, which now seem nostalgic. Yes, it HAS been five years since their last album! The Hudson and Washington co-penned hooks just build up and build up, creating a total ear worm of a song the only way they know how. Incredibly well-written lines aside, the song is extremely palatable and verges away from the darker, more alternative pop sounds of earlier releases "Love Me Right Now" and "Bleeding Out", which didn't exactly resonate with her core audience despite being pretty decent tracks.
The starlet has endured a lot over the years despite still being a very tender age, a mere 23. Nobody was expecting her to return to music and, for the most part, nobody was pressuring her either. Her fans seemed accepting of the fact that the songstress was burnt out from it all. A chaotic and unexpected split from a highly successful girl band, a break-up with one of music's biggest heartthrobs, a stalker and an attempt on your life will do that to you. Layla could have easily returned with a melancholy, introspective ballad in which she laments over the last five years but that sorrow would have driven the narrative for this new project. It's evident that she's now in a happier place and looking towards the future which is represented within the lyrics and upbeat nature of "No Trouble in Paradise". Again, reinforcing the fact that it is the "perfect" song for her return. Not only is she rewriting and controlling her narrative in terms of her words; the soundscape of her long-awaited musical return has also diverted her from pending pop relic to pop's new princess."
