Her mentor on the show was Mexican regional singer Jenni Rivera, who unfortunately passed away in a plane crash on December 9, 2012, during the show's production. Due to her mentor's tragic death and La Voz's postponement, Fortuna never got to compete; but she still acquired popularity from the show's scouting episodes. In 2013, Fortuna enrolled in ITAM (Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México), one of Mexico's top Ph.D. granting Universities, as a candidate for a Bachelors in Entertainment Law. In her first year, Fortuna was a legal intern for Sony Music Latin; However, while the internship was for a legal scholarship, she managed to speak to music executives who recognized her from La Voz. During her second year of Law School, she was invited back to Sony Music Latin, but not as a legal scholar, but as an entertainment scholar, one of the most prestigious internships granted to entertainment students. As an entertainment scholar, Fortuna learned about the music industry first hand and recorded demos in Spanish for musical executives. In 2016, after graduating, Fortuna signed to Sony Music Latin and recorded a Mexican classics compilation album. Sony Music Latin (2016-2019): While signed to Sony Music Latin, Fortuna recorded her first album, which consisted of classics by artists such as Juan Gabriel, Rocio Durcal, Gloria Trevi, and her former La Voz mentor, Jenni Rivera. Although Fortuna wanted to record Latin Pop music, the label wanted the Latin market to familiarize themselves with her. In 2016, Fortuna released no music and had to work in multiple legal departments to make ends meet. The following year Fortuna petitioned to be removed from her record contract, which the label denied. Fortuna filed a lawsuit against Sony Music Latin and hired her former entertainment law professor from ITAM. The case took over three years to litigate, but Fortuna won her case and was able to keep her advance payment of one million pesos (USD: $49,000+). La Familia Records (2019 - Present): After being released from her contract, Fortuna moved to Los Angeles and became a background vocalist for multiple artists. She is credited as a background vocalist on numerous Latin Pop releases. During one of her recording sessions, Fortuna caught the attention of a talent scout from the label "La Familia" and signed to La Familia in October 2019. In 2020, Fortuna began forming a team to release her first Latin Pop single this month and album in 2021.
