Hook is a song recorded by American singer WINNIE for her long-overdue debut studio album. It was released by Safe Haven Records with additional promotion from Dahlhouse Entertainment on July 11th, 2021, as one of the record's many singles. WINNIE wrote the lyrics and co-produced the music with longtime collaborator, inZane. A funky, electro-tinged and rock-inspired upbeat country-pop track, in Hook WINNIE describes a relationship between her and a tow truck driver who taught her how to live on the edge and have the balls to chase what she really wants. This is the second country single from WINNIE, a direction she will be exploring even further on the upcoming project that she describes as, "a chaotic mix of rock, country and pop."
The last time we heard from WINNIE was in 2017 when she released her emotional acoustic country single, Time. The song was her initiation into motherhood and she released the single to announce to fans that she'd be focusing on family for the foreseeable future. WINNIE has spent the last 4 years raising her daughter as a single mother while still managing to make music on the side. Though she initially feared taking such a long hiatus early in her career, management encouraged her to do what was best for her personal life, helping the singer to manage her earnings in order to be able to live off her royalties and endorsements so that she could support her family. The singer also dabbled in songwriting for other artists for additional income, managing to work with small independent alternative artists from time. With the relaunch of Dahlhouse Entertainment, it was announced that the management company would be bringing back not only fan favorites from their roster but also some of their more underrated acts that serve as niche players in their markets. While WINNIE isn't exactly a well-known artist, in just a short amount of time she's managed to carve out her own lane in music with a #1 single under her belt and all of her singles never charting lower than #5 on the charts. Her success is far from forced, she has an organic following that her management team believes can carry her further than any heavy promotional campaign. "I know my fans have missed me," Winnie says regarding her comeback. "But I also know they understand. I think I'm really grateful to have such a flexible career aided by people who just want to see me live freely and write music about it."
