Miami Smooth is a song recorded by American singer-songwriter Layla. It is the ninth track on her debut solo album, "Feel No Fear", and serves as the fourth single lifted from the project. The track was written in the summer of 2020 by Layla and Cristian Flores, aka BLOOM, who also handled the production of the song. "Miami Smooth" is a tropical pop song infused with elements of R&B, hip-hop and reggae music throughout, creating a "hazy", "chilled" and "dreamy" soundscape which aids the "swooning" lyrics. Layla's vocal performance is the most subdued on the album, minus a few belting ad-libs during the song's last chorus. Sanchez's delivery can be described as "sensual" and "teasing" as she paints vivid pictures of her new partner over a light guitar riff and simple hip-hop beat. The song is seen as a continuation of previous track, "Round Again". The track itself also serves as a precursor for closing song, "No Trouble in Paradise". Lyrically, "Miami Smooth" sees Layla in the throws of love with her brand new partner after initially behind apprehensive. She describes her new love as "Miami smooth", essentially "effortlessly cool" and also indicating that he is from the area.
The song was written in August 2020, alongside BLOOM, who also went on to officially produce the track. "Miami Smooth" was written by the pair in the session that followed on from the one which birthed "Round Again". Sanchez decided to build upon the creative energy they had and continue the story they had created previously. "Miami Smooth" directly follows "Round Again", further expanding on the positive, forward-thinking vibes and sees Layla finally happy in a brand new relationship after a lot of apprehension and unresolved issues. "Miami Smooth" also briefly references the track "Some Kind of Magic" within its first pre-chorus, furthering the idea that the songs are in the same universe and tell one big story. The track details the intimacy, love and strong bond between the pair. Sanchez continuously compliments her new boyfriend, painting a picture of a "perfect man" for the listeners. It is unknown if the song is indeed fictitious or relating to Sanchez's current love life. It has been disproven that the song was inspired about her whirlwind romance with Joshua Grimmie as he hails from New Jersey, not Miami. The lyrical content further fuels rumours that Layla and BLOOM are dating. While originating from Colombia, Flores resides in Miami. The word "bloom", his stage name, is also mentioned within the first verse. The artists have neither confirmed nor denied the allegations.
Layla wrote:"Well, "Miami Smooth" is a naughty little track, isn't she? It was oddly liberating to write and record such a track. Even though it's hardly anything explicit, there's zero cuss words on it, it was still real fun to get a little sensual on a record. After leaving the band, going through all the personal turmoil, losing my love for music and creating, I didn't think I'd be able to perform and write again let alone really own my sexuality and get a little freaky. It's definitely a song that makes me feel very confident. That slinky, dreamy beat that BLOOM provides. Ugh, yum! This was literally the next writing session we had after creating "Round Again" and I thought that we should continue that story. "Miami Smooth" moves on a little and we're now in this relationship. There's no "ifs", "ands" or "buts" about it. It's about that sweet spot where it feels like the stars have aligned. You've got this amazing partner who is like sex on legs, they dote over you, you're head over heels for them, together you're just unstoppable and at your happiest. With the production, the story, the image I paint of this guy, this track really does sound like a dream. It's like the ultimate happy ending fantasy. A little escapism with a hottie. We're all allowed to tap into that side of our minds from time to time, right?! "
"Miami Smooth"Some boys are over once the cameras flash
When he puckers up, he knows how to make it last
Wear his kisses like my favorite perfume
Notes of rose in the height of its bloom
Like it best when it's just us and the sunset
Immaculate horizons, knowing no regret
His vibe's a new kind of classic
Turn up the dial and just blast it
Off the scale with his chromatics
Swear it must be some kind of magic
Might as well give it up and turn it loose
'Cause me and my baby ain't got nothing to prove
Basking in the rays, sipping on his juice
Goes down a real treat, yeah he's Miami smooth
Oh mi, oh my-ay-ay-ay-ay, uh
For a while there I thought I lost my groove
Turns out my dancing partners didn't have the moves
Rough and ready but with a touch that soothes
Incomparable, yeah my boy's Miami smoothI know he has something different on his mind
When he says he wants to take me for a ride
Hot nights, steamed up glass, nobody does it better
Takes me to new heights that soar above the weather
All feels like the most colorful of daydreams
Pure euphoria pumping through my bloodstream
This love's a new kind of classic
Second nature, feels like it's automatic
Off the charts but no need to panic
I kinda like it when it gets volcanic
Might as well give it up and turn it loose
'Cause me and my baby ain't got nothing to prove
Basking in the rays, sipping on his juice
Goes down a real treat, yeah he's Miami smooth
