Pines' debut album, "Lost Whispers in the Wind," is nearing completion, and the band decided to celebrate with a party to preview the highly-anticipated release. From the captivating first track, "Lost Dreamers," to the intense and immersive 31-minute finale, "Whispers in the Wind (Pt2)," the album showcases a range of musical styles. Attendees of the party were also treated to some outtakes, including the mind-altering "Lost in the Womb Void," a song that truly takes the listener on an elevated journey; think the dark side meets the complexity and depth of Rush's "2112."
During the event, we had the privilege of sitting down with Stella and Carrie Pine, the driving forces behind Pines, to discuss their creative process and vision for the album.
When asked about the decision to transition from the influences of Sleater-Kinney to Zao and Bell Witch for the album's conclusion, Stella explained, "We needed something dark and heavy to truly encapsulate the essence of the entire album. Initially, our plan was for 'Whispers in the Wind (Pt2)' to be similar to Zao's self-titled album and be only a minute long. However, once we started jamming with Katie and Johnny, the song took on a life of its own, and we couldn't stop the momentum."
Carrie added, "We wanted 'Pt2' to have that raw energy and intensity. It's a song that you can sing along to, but also headbang your heart out. We wanted the listeners to feel that electrifying energy."
The decision to host a listening party without a mastered album surprised many, but it was a deliberate choice by the band. Stella shared, "I've always admired Guns N' Roses, particularly their album 'Chinese Democracy.' The original, unpolished version that Axl handed over to the label had a raw and punk rock sound. It was truly beautiful. Unfortunately, the label's response crushed Axl's confidence, and it took him eight years to perfect it, which in his eyes, it still isn't. We were inspired by that rawness and authenticity."
Carrie chimed in, citing Black Sabbath's "Born Again" as another example, "This album had some technical flaws in its mastering, but it still possesses that genuine and organic essence. We want to eventually release this raw version of 'Lost Whispers in the Wind' because we believe it showcases our true artistic vision."
As the conversation came to a close, it became clear that Pines' debut album is a labor of love, crafted with meticulous attention to detail. The band's willingness to embrace imperfections and prioritize authenticity promises to deliver an album that resonates deeply with their audience. Expectations are high, and anticipation for the release of "Lost Whispers in the Wind" continues to grow.
Yes, that is correct. The polished version of our album is set to be released on February 5th. We have been diligently working on the final touches to ensure that it meets the highest standards of quality. As I mentioned earlier, we still need to mix the album, and we are actively seeking a producer who can bring fresh ideas and perspectives to the table. While we do have a few possibilities in mind, we are open to exploring other options should they arise.
One of our key objectives with this album is to create a seamless listening experience, with songs flowing seamlessly into each other without any gaps. We also have a strong desire to incorporate elements from different genres, such as a fusion of Kpop with metal or country and indie. In doing so, we hope to create a unique sonic experience that pushes the boundaries of traditional music.
Regarding the songs that didn't make the final cut, we have approximately ten outtakes that didn't align with the overall vision of the album. However, we have plans to release them in the future, as we believe they deserve to be heard by our dedicated fans.
As for the rumors about a new album, it is true that we are in the early stages of writing new material. We have been collaborating with Katie Zombie and Johnny Guitar in the studio, and their contributions have been invaluable. Although it is still too early to confirm the release of a new album, we are excited about the ideas we have been exploring. One of those ideas is a song called " Saturday night horror! Sounds like The misfits and zappa.
Thank you for your support, and we look forward to sharing our polished album with you on February 5th
