Title: “New Light”
Release Date: April 29, 2024
Recorded: Fénix Home Recording Studios, Phoenix, Arizona, USA / Record Plant, Los Angeles, California, USA
Genres: RnB, Soul, Blues, Contemporary Pop, Singer-Songwriter
Length: 68:10 (Standard Edition), 75:47 (Deluxe Edition)
Label: FREEDOM
Producers: Alicia Lena, Nevaeh Martinez, DeAndre Patton

“New Light” is the fourth studio album from American RnB singer-songwriter ‘Alicia Lena’, marking the first studio album from the artist since her 2012 album “Reign Over Me” cemented the young musicians legacy as a bona-fide superstar. The time between studio albums has seen the singer-songwriter step out of the spotlight, returning briefly in 2014 to deliver a fan-exclusive E.P titled “Almost Grown” and in 2015 and 2016 to deliver two soundtrack exclusive singles titled “Try Again” and “Humans Without Humanity”, beyond those releases Alicia has preferred to lead a private life, moving from New York to Arizona to begin married life with long-term partner and record producer DeAndre Patton where they welcomed their first child Rocco in May 2018. Away from her career as a musician during this period she was brought on board to FREEDOM records as a label executive and talent scout, also signing a record deal with the label for any potential future releases and she also worked as a judge on the talent search series StarFactory for a period of time before officially confirming her return as a recording artist in 2021 when she delivered a powerful social justice song titled “Here We Stand” for the soundtrack to a documentary she worked on as a co-producer titled “No Justice, No Peace: The Search for Equality in the US” which was delivered in the aftermath of the George Floyd murder. She confirmed with the release that the song also signalled her return to the studio on a more permanent basis and that working on the track gave her the impetus and motivation to finally return to the studio to work on a full length album.

The album was recorded throughout 2022 and 2023 with Alicia diving back into what was truly her first love, with no direction or time constraints placed upon her, she set about experimenting in her home recording studio in Phoenix, Arizona throughout the majority of 2022 with her husband and producer DeAndre Patton in a period which saw her write more than fifty songs for consideration for her next studio album. It wasn’t until the process of narrowing down the songs that she began to form the genesis for the album and it’s over-arching theme that would flow throughout the album, towards the end of 2022 it was clear that the album was one of humanity, stories of hope and faith and the difficulties and triumphs that everyday people go through. She blended her own experiences and feelings into the songs on a number of tracks, but for the most part it was about creating something more universally relatable to her own life. Once it was clear on the overall theme of the album and that the songs were written to a standard deemed worthy enough of being recorded Alicia moved the process from her own home studio and into the Record Plant in Los Angeles, California where she was accompanied by her husband DeAndre Patton and her closest friend, label executive and record producer Nevaeh Martinez to begin recording the album and starting to put the puzzle pieces together.
The first true taste of the album began in May 2023 with the release of the official lead single from the project titled “Home”, a track that showcased the storytelling nature of the upcoming album and it’s highlight on human spirit and emotions. Taken from her own personal story in part, the track tells the story of a young girl being adopted, taking references from her own life about her birth parents drug habits, immediately giving her up for adoption and how a child from an ethnic background (Spanish and Black) was raised by two middle class white people that effectively gave her a home despite being brought into the world unwanted and without a home. The track emphasises the idea of hope and strong bonds between parents and children whether by blood or not and ends with Alicia highlighting the fact that she will be the one to bring those same morals and ethics into her own parenting. The track was a huge success for Alicia, riding on the wave of excitement at the confirmation of her official comeback, the track became her eighth number one single in her career and re-ignited the support for an artist that had long been missed in the industry.

Although the momentum was with Alicia following the release of the lead single, she was still hard at work in the studio finishing up post-production on the album and fitting all of the pieces together throughout the rest of 2023. But on the final day of 2023 she surprised her fans with the release of the second single from the album which would later be confirmed as the title track from the album, “New Light”. The track continued the theme of hope and showcased a positive message throughout of having doubts of self-belief and struggles and working through them in order to get to the other side of it. During the press run for the single Alicia talked about the track’s overall message and why it was chosen as the single, “We live in a world where negativity is so prevalent, for me I believe my purpose throughout my brief time on this earth and all of our purpose is to be a small beacon of light, positivity and goodness. I think it’s so easy to fall into that negative mindset and lose sight of the end goal with all that’s going on in the world. There are some songs on the album that I could have released that are incredibly sad stories and themes but for me it’s more important for the singles to put something more wholly positive out there. I know a lot of people will only casually listen to my music through the singles, so I’d like to put positivity out there, songs of hope. Of course I rate the more difficult and emotive songs just as highly as the positive and more life affirming songs, but I’m always going to opt to put out a more positive message or something that I feel like is important to be highlighted like I did with ‘Here We Stand’. I like to think that the album as a whole is more positive and uplifting, but I’ve tried to encapsulate a broad range of human life and it’s stories within the album, so there’s ups and down for sure.”
It continued the successful return for the artist and it was then followed up by “Love Comes Not When We’re Looking” in March 2024 which again saw Alicia take her own story, doubts and feelings and try to deliver a song that showcased universal emotions. Primarily about her making the journey from being incredibly independent and not believing in her own need for a powerful all-encompassing love type of relationship to eventually having her mindset changed over time through persistency and dedication. Although the track speaks to her own mindset and story of her future husband proving to her that true real love is possible within the celebrity world that they live in, it’s delivered in a way that speaks to people on a more universal level, again highlighting the human aspect that runs throughout the entire album. The track again secured Alicia with another number one single and was confirmed that it would be the penultimate release before the album. Indicating that one more track would drop before the albums actual release, although details weren’t confirmed at the time.

She would go on to release the final single from the album a couple of days prior to the album dropping with the release of “Rooftops (Part II)” (feat. Ryan Ross Hernandez) which saw Alicia working alongside her close friend and previous collaborator from her debut album. The soul and blues heavy track showcased both artists take and views on modern day issues, from government officials to greed in general. Released on April 27, 2024 it was confirmed as the final single from the albums promo run and that the album would be arriving a couple of days later.
With that confirmation, Alicia Lena’s fourth studio album will be released via FREEDOM records on April 29, 2024.

OOC: Just a lyric only release, would have loved to have went into further detail about these songs and the themes within them and meaning of them but I've procrastinated long enough with it and just needed to the album out so I can free up the time to focus on other stuff. Hopefully the lyrics alone can paint enough of an image of the album. :)

“New Light”

"When you hear the words so many times you start to believe them
Whether spoken out loud or all in your mind
You have to fight the feeling
They have a way of sitting with you, manifesting and moving
Before you know it, you're a shadow of your old self
With internal scars and bruising

For a while there
I lost a little part of me
Maybe strayed too far from the path I was on
Obstacles of self-doubt and anxiety

But I've found it now
Feels like I'm being guided by a new light
Got a sense of purpose now
And I'm ready to fight
But I've found it now
Feels like I'm being guided by a new light
Got a sense of purpose now
And I'm ready to fight

For all the things I wanted before
Doesn't matter how big my dreams may seem
I believe in manifestations
I've got faith in my own dreams and destiny

For a while there
I lost a little part of me
Maybe strayed too far from the path I was on
Obstacles of self-doubt and anxiety

But I've found it now
Feels like I'm being guided by a new light
Got a sense of purpose now
And I'm ready to fight
But I've found it now
Feels like I'm being guided by a new light
Got a sense of purpose now
And I'm ready to fight

When you hear the words so many times you start to believe them
Support and positivity creates a healthy mind
You have to embrace that feeling
They have a way of passing by so very briefly, manifesting and move on
But if it's repeated enough then it'll finally start to sink in
With eternal faith and thick skin

For a while there
I lost a little part of me
Maybe strayed too far from the path I was on
Obstacles of self-doubt and anxiety

But I've found it now
Feels like I'm being guided by a new light
Got a sense of purpose now
And I'm ready to fight"

“Home”

“Poor little girl
What a terrible way to come into this world
Parents that never wanted her
A Mom and Dad that weren’t willing to kick the habits that they had
Arriving in this world, bright blue eyes big and beautiful
What a lovely little girl
And they didn’t even care to take a look at her
Just handed her off
Like she was a package in a parking lot
Discreetly handed over
Like the deals they’ve made so many times before her
Oh what a poor little girl
What a terrible way to come into this world

But she just learns to keep on hoping
All the while knowing
That she’s better off this way

A suburban middle class white couple
Told that they couldn’t have a baby of their very own
And it nearly tore their love apart
Before it had even begun
But they took an unwanted child in their arms
And raised her as their own
Oh what a beautiful thing
Oh what a beautiful thing to have done

This is for the ones that made us reach for the stars, reach for the stars
To the ones that helped raise us
And make us who we all are, who we all are
To the hands that helped raise us
The strength that you gave means they'll never break us
With the lessons you taught us
We'll always fight for this place we call home
And someday we'll fill it with love
This place we call home

But she’s learnt to keep on hoping
All the while knowing
That’s she’s better off this way

That bond feels stronger somehow
Knowing that they have no obligation to love you like they do
And yet they looked on you like you were the one that came into their life and saved them
But the reality is that they’re the ones that did the saving
Through the developmental functions
Lessons you’re taught from a very young age
To afterschool dance classes
And a million other temporary interests
Until you found your calling in the keys of a piano
And the melodies you loved creating

But she’s learnt to keep on hoping
All the while knowing
That’s she’s better off this way

And now she raises a child of her own
On the lessons that you taught
And it brings her so much joy to hear him call you nan and pops
Seeing that sparkle in your eyes once more
The same one you had
All those years ago
And although she put a part of her life on hold
She’s proud of the reasons she did it for

This is for the ones that made us reach for the stars, reach for the stars
To the ones that helped raise us
And make us who we all are, who we all are
To the hands that helped raise us
The strength that you gave means they'll never break us
With the lessons you taught us
We'll always fight for this place we call home
And someday we'll fill it with love
This place we call home”

Title: “Guardian Angel”
Genre(s): RnB, Soul, Contemporary Pop
Length: 3:49
Label: FREEDOM
Songwriter(s): Alicia Lena
Producer(s): Alicia Lena, Nevaeh Martinez

“Guardian Angel”

“You’re a hero to those you hold close
You’d break your back just to keep us all safe and warm
I’ve never seen pure love quite like this
And all the troubles that we brought to your door
You never complained once before
Just took it as a lesson for you to teach us
Truly you’ve been my greatest teacher
And I can never repay you for that
But I’ll dedicate the rest of my life to giving back
And learning all the things that I lack
And some say the perfection I’m striving for isn’t true
But I just laugh and think
Maybe they just haven’t met you

It’s so true
You’re my guardian angel
And I love you
It’s so true
You’re my guardian angel
And I love you
And I love you, and I love you
And I love you

I know you’ve struggled
When you were alone it took two jobs just to feed us all
I just wish we had of seen it back then
I’d have been a little more conscious to the demons we’re all fighting within
But when you’re a teenager you’re just a little selfish
So glad you dragged me out of it
And taught me how to be truly selfless
Taught me to love with compassion
Cause you never know the monsters everybody’s battling
And the tools that you gave me
Mean more to me now that I can see them
Manifest in my life every day
I will follow your lead
And teach them to love in the very same way

It’s so true
You’re my guardian angel
And I love you
It’s so true
You’re my guardian angel
And I love you
And I love you, and I love you
And I love you

It’s so true
You’re my guardian angel
And I love you
It’s so true
You’re my guardian angel
And I love you
And I love you, and I love you
And I love you”

Genre(s): RnB, Soul
Length: 4:46
Label: FREEDOM
Songwriter(s): Alicia Lena

“Color Me Impressed”

"I’ve always held my ambition close to my heart
Like the cards that I keep close to my chest
I said from day one that you’d find it difficult to find your way in
But you always believed in putting that shit out to the universe and watching it manifest
Well darlin', you can color me impressed

Feels like we've been together for a lifetime
But those butterflies still flutter by constantly when you're by my side
Late night conversations under the Phoenix stars makes me feel the sparks of our magic
Hands on my hips, you get me feeling the static
When I'm away from you, it's your company I find myself craving
I don't always get high
But with you by my side, I always feel lifted
You can color me impressed
I'll just say I'm addicted

I thought I had seen this all before, knew exactly how this story goes
But you were right to say you're different
Oh darlin', you get me lifted
You can color me impressed
But I'll just say that I'm addicted

Yeah, you were right to say you're different
Oh darlin', you get me lifted
You can color me impressed
But I'll just say that I'm addicted

You gave me a whole different perspective
Came along and gave me life
My whole world became realigned
I always thought career goals would be the measure of my life
But I see it now, I was meant to be a mother and wife
Just never found the one that was right
Until you came into my life
Showed me how to love more than just my dreams and ambitions
Open myself up to my deepest fantasies and inhibitions
No more non-negotiable conditions
Based around my solo compositions
I'm on a brand new mission
Full of new traditions

I thought I had seen this all before, knew exactly how this story goes
But you were right to say you're different
Oh darlin', you get me lifted
You can color me impressed
But I'll just say that I'm addicted

Yeah, you were right to say you're different
Oh darlin', you get me lifted
You can color me impressed
But I'll just say that I'm addicted"

Title: “Envious”
Genre(s): RnB, Soul, Blues
Length: 3:17

“Envious”

“I’m so envious of those stars
That get to dance around your presence
I’m envious of the good people that have gone before you
How they all get to kick it with you up in heaven
It hurts to see the rain
Cause it’s like you’re crying down on us all now
But I love it when the sun beats down
Cause it makes me feel like it’s your way of saying you’re so proud

I sometimes feel like
None of us truly knew you
And all the pain you were going through inside
And I wish that I
Could see through you
And find a way inside your mind
And it hurts to know of all your pain
And I promise never to take for granted again
All the people in my life

I’m envious of those beautiful evenings
That we no longer share
Wine and the deepest conversations
Are all gone because you’re no longer there
And I sometimes find
Myself talking aloud
And hoping to myself
That I made you proud
But it hurts for me to know
That you had to go
Without letting me know
And I’m so envious of the peace that you’ve found now

I hope you’ve found your happiness now
But it hurts that I don’t get to see it
I hope you’ve got the ability to look back down
And you always get to see us
But I can’t say I don’t feel blue
But I’ve still got memories of you
And that’s enough for now

I’m envious of the way
You get to look down on us every day
And feel no pain at all
Yeah, I’m envious of the way
You get to look down on us every day
And never have to fall”

“Here We Stand”

“Here we stand
Standing stronger together
Whatever the weather
Here we stand
Standing stronger together
Whatever the weather
Here we stand

Marching in the street for equality
Searching for change is what we all seek
Let’s raise our voices
Til’ we can’t breathe
And we’ll all take the knee
For our family

And we can hope and we can pray
And long for such a better day
There’s more voices to the cause than there’s ever been before
We can’t bare to see this happening anymore
Need to rediscover the love that we were born for

Let’s say their names louder
So it’s harder for them to deny their failure
And realize the blood on their hands with their fucked up behaviour
In this modern world we shouldn’t have to tolerate
All this kind of ancient hate
It’s time we start to truly educate
So we can learn to find peace
Before it’s too late

Here we stand
Standing stronger together
Whatever the weather
Here we stand
Standing stronger together
Whatever the weather
Here we stand

Let’s make sure they didn’t die in vain
Let’s fight for the change
In this generation that we’re living in
And believe that we can be a part of history for the next generation

Here we stand
Standing stronger together
Whatever the weather
Here we stand
Standing stronger together
Whatever the weather
Here we stand

Here we stand
Standing stronger together
Whatever the weather
Here we stand
Standing stronger together
Whatever the weather
Here we stand”

“What I’m Singing For”

“When we walk the streets of Los Angeles, we learn to keep our eyes straight ahead
Never look down and just pretend that they’re not there
Could you spare some change for me, but we act like we don’t notice
Just to get a quick cup of coffee
But we don’t acknowledge the homeless
But they’re just like you and me
The only difference is that when we fucked up
We landed on our feet

They had a dream that they were chasing
Ambitious just like us all
They took a risk and weren’t lucky enough to get what they were searching for

I know where I come from and I worked to get it right
Drug addicted parents put me up for adoption, no such thing as love at first sight
So when I put pen to paper and step up to the mic
I’m not just singing for me onstage
I’m singing for all the ones that are worth the fight

I sing for the lonely
I sing for the old
I sing for the abandoned, homeless and cold
I sing for the rich
Losing track of where they’re from
I sing for the confused
Unsure of where they belong

I know where I come from and I worked to get it right

“With Heavy Souls and Heavy Faith”

"People marching on the streets now
Searching for a change
With heavy souls and even heavier faith
In the hope and the belief that their marching could one day bring
Worry is always around the corner
Fear is never so far away
Too many people dying needlessly in the street
Seeing it unfold on TV every single day

You can see so much hatred growing stronger every day
In faceless avatars on our touch screens
It may be nothing that they'd ever say in person
But we need to find some accountability

How is it that love is still not seen as equal if it's with the same sex?
How is it that we're treated different by the ones that are supposed to protect us just because of the color of our skin?
How is it that we're still fucking paid less because of what we have between our legs?
How is it that a position of power gives you the right to touch and grope without a consequence?

Too many people dying needlessly in the street
Seeing it unfold on TV every single day"

Title: “Something’s Gotta Change”
Genre(s): RnB, Soul, Blues
Length: 5:23
Label: FREEDOM
Songwriter(s): Alicia Lena
Producer(s): Alicia Lena, Nevaeh Martinez

“Something’s Gotta Change”

“Same old journey home from the school run
Man, this world can be a cruel one
Police cars passing on the other side of the freeway
People on their commute to work but this is something we see around here every day
But then the call comes in
School’s calling em’ in
Can’t explain everything
We’re living it again
But it seems like nobodies listening

Bullets reign free across the classroom halls
There’s no sense in this at all
How can we have so much hate at such a young age
Hurts to see kids filled with so much rage
Silence now fills the classroom halls
There’s no sense
In any of this at all

Another list of lives that are taken too soon
Can’t keep listening to the lies they always seem to feed us
Prom kings and queens
Future presidents and world leaders
Gone for no real reason
Mothers and fathers left to do the grieving

Something’s gotta change
Something’s gotta change
Something’s gotta change

Tell me, how can a mother tell her child that their older sister isn’t coming home?
How can a father step outside and realize there ain’t nobody there anymore to catch the football?
And a parent should never have to outlive their children
Or fear that taking them to school could be the last time they ever get to see them
But some walk in and never walk back out again

Bullets reign free across the classroom halls
There’s no sense in this at all
How can we have so much hate at such a young age
Hurts to see kids filled with so much rage
Silence now fills the classroom halls
There’s no sense
In any of this at all

Something’s gotta change
Something’s gotta change
Something’s gotta change

Another list of lives that are taken too soon
Can’t keep listening to the lies they always seem to feed us
Prom kings and queens
Future presidents and world leaders
Gone for no real reason
Mothers and fathers left to do the grieving

Something’s gotta change
Something’s gotta change
Something’s gotta change”

Title: “Rise Up”
Genre(s): RnB, Soul, Contemporary Pop
Length: 2:58
Label: FREEDOM
Songwriter(s): Alicia Lena
Producer(s): Alicia Lena, Nevaeh Martinez

“Rise Up”

“You've got a platform to make a change
But you've been running scared
You've spent the past three years in total silence
Convinced that no one cares
You used to sing with passion, now your voice has been taken away
When we both know deep down
You've still got a lot to say

Rise up tonight, rise up tonight
It's time that we all rise up tonight, rise up tonight

You know you still have a voice
It may have been drowned out by all this noise
But it's time to be brave
Throw all of your frustrations away
And together we will say

Rise up tonight, rise up tonight
It's time that we all rise up tonight, rise up tonight

This land was supposed to be free
But let's think about the cost
In all of the beautiful people and the lives that have been lost
It felt like we were making progress
But in the last few years we've been set back centuries
Against the face of so much hate
How did we ever let this come to be?
How did we let this come to be?

Rise up tonight, rise up tonight
It's time that we all rise up tonight, rise up tonight

I don't believe in what this stands for
I believe that we all deserve so much more
I don't believe in what this stands for
I believe that we all deserve so much more
I don't believe in what this stands for
I believe that we all deserve so much more"

Title: “Even On Those Hard Days”
Genre(s): RnB, Soul, Contemporary Pop
Length: 4:52
Label: FREEDOM
Songwriter(s): Alicia Lena
Producer(s): Alicia Lena, Nevaeh Martinez

“Even On Those Hard Days”

“I try to wake up each morning with love and faith
But we all have those hard days
When nothing seems to be going right from the start
Starting off on an argument, even though you know it’s not who you really are
And the kids are out here testing
And you stuck in your own head stressing
But I can’t help confessing, they always seem to find a way to make it right
Make you hug them tighter when you tuck them in at night
And my man always finds a way to make it right
A deep kiss, an I love you
Reminds me of our powerful bond
And that I can sometimes be a little too head strong

Baby you know that I
I’d rather make love than fight
Cause I’d rather not lose sleep at night
And when we’re together
I know that you’re all mine forever
I long for that feeling we have
In those moments
When our two souls blend

I know that time can change us
Time can change love
We gotta keep rolling with the punches
Embrace all seasons of change
You know you’ve got that true love, transcendent
When it’s there even on those hard days

And we gotta keep rolling with the punches
Embrace all seasons of change
You know you’ve got that true love, transcendent
When it’s there even on those hard days

Baby you know that I
I’d rather make love than fight
Cause I’d rather not lose sleep at night
And when we’re together
I know that you’re all mine forever
I long for that feeling we have
In those moments
When our two souls blend

I try to wake up each morning with love and faith
But we all have those hard days

Genre(s): RnB, Soul, Blues
Length: 5:28
Label: FREEDOM
Songwriter(s): Alicia Lena, Ryan Ross Hernandez
Producer(s): Alicia Lena, Nevaeh Martinez

“Rooftops (Part II)” (Feat. Ryan Ross Hernandez)

“Money changes everything
For better or worse, depends on the hands gripping the purse
I’ve seen pure love grow like a flower beneath concrete
I’ve seen two hearts pulling together, struggling to make ends meet
I’ve seen that same pure love die, crumbling and blamed on it’s foundations being weak
After those same fighters made it out of poverty and started living in luxury
Mental scars and single-minded ambition
Can throw you from the path you once shared together
Can throw you off your combined mission
I think we’ve lost track
Of what’s real and true in this world
I think we need some time for healing and reflection
We like to think we’re marching forward
But it’s directionless
If we’re not marching forward together

I wish I could just get you to stop
Stop for one moment
Take in the silence
And remember what makes you feel grateful
Let’s go back to the basics
Take a step back from the hateful

I wanna scream it from the rooftops
With fire in my lungs
And love in my heart
I wanna scream it from the rooftops
With passion and desire
Roaring like wildfire
I wanna scream it from the rooftops

Pompous politicians, corporate greed
Anyone can be bought for the right price
I've seen loved ones become vultures overnight
Their eyes turning from beautiful colors to dollar signs
Everyone's in it for themselves in this world
The green and gold has its shine but it fades fast
You can have every little thing you dream of
Buy everything to fill up the empty space
But be depressed and all alone just the same
Take it from me
I used to live for the glitz and the glamour
The LA parties and the New York flings
I had the biggest castle in the kingdom but no queen
Now I finally have a love just for me
I let her go once but I'm never doing that again
You can keep all the rest, I don't need it
I wanna scream it from the rooftops
Part two

I wish I could just get you to stop
Stop for one moment
Take in the silence
And remember what makes you feel grateful
Let’s go back to the basics
Take a step back from the hateful

I feel like we’ve strayed a little too far from the path of enlightenment
A little too far from the values and beliefs we started with
It seems these days we’re all too eager to step over each other
Or bring each down in order to get a little closer to a metaphorical crown
I believe we need to go back to basics
Search for that love that we once had in our hearts
Place a hand out for those struggling beside us
And never be afraid to be who we are

I wish I could just get you to stop
Stop for one moment
Take in the silence
And remember what makes you feel grateful
Let’s go back to the basics
Take a step back from the hateful

I wanna scream it from the rooftops
With fire in my lungs
And love in my heart
I wanna scream it from the rooftops
With passion and desire
Roaring like wildfire
I wanna scream it from the rooftops”

“World At War”

“Watching TV as bombs are falling from the sky
They’re falling all around us
Politicians on their vibe that we thought we had eradicated long ago
Narcissistic and insecure is a deadly combination
For those that hold so much power
Over each and every nation

It's hurtin’ my heart to live in this
Wherever you go
There’s just so much hatred
Literal world wars about to resurface
Social wars and hate speech have become people’s purpose

There’s a world at war
And it seems we’re all on opposing sides
Nobody can agree
On the things that used to unite
There’s a world at war
Out on the streets tonight
And there’s no safe bunker in sight
There’s no shelter safe enough for any of us to hide

It's hurtin’ my heart to live in this
Wherever you go
There’s just so much hatred
Literal world wars about to resurface
Social wars and hate speech have become people’s purpose

Genre(s): RnB, Soul, Contemporary

Producer(s): Alicia Lena, Nevaeh Martinez, DeAndre Patton

“Saviour”

“Spent most of my life building walls around me
Trying to preserve what was left inside
Never thought you'd be the one to break through the foundations
But you cracked em' open with the jaws of life
Didn't even leave a mark
Not even a nasty scar
Found myself searching for answers
And baby, there you are
Arriving in the form of a saviour
Yeah, you know you've gone and stole my heart

You've ignited something inside of me
Helped me discover who I'm supposed to be
I'm a firm believer in destiny
I can see the light shining brightly now

I know you're gonna be there for me
Even if we're standing at the end of time
Arriving in the form of a saviour
Baby, I know you'll always be mine
You've given me everything you have to give
And done it with all of your soul
Arriving in the form of a saviour
To help to guide me through the storm

If you’re gonna be my saviour
I’m okay with being the one that needs saved
You know if you find yourself in failure
Baby I’ll do the same
You’ll be my saviour, I’ll be your saviour
We’ll be our saviours
Through all of these days

Shining like a ray of light
Through the stained glass windows of my life
I no longer find myself praying at night
Because you came along and answered all my prayers this time
I never need to look behind
Cause I know that you've got my back in this life
Even if I fall this time
I know that I'll be just fine

You've ignited something inside of me
Helped me discover who I'm supposed to be
I'm a firm believer in destiny
I can see the light shining brightly now

I know you're gonna be there for me
Even if we're standing at the end of time
Arriving in the form of a saviour
Baby, I know you'll always be mine
You've given me everything you have to give
And done it with all of your soul
Arriving in the form of a saviour
To help to guide me through the storm

If you’re gonna be my saviour

You know if you find yourself in failure

Title: “Love Comes Not When We’re Looking”
Genre(s): RnB, Soul, Pop
Length: 4:57
Label: FREEDOM
Songwriter(s): Alicia Lena, Abella Diaz
Producer(s): Alicia Lena, Nevaeh Martinez

“Love Comes Not When We’re Looking”

"I used to think I could just live my own life
And you could live your very own
I used to think we could be like two ships passing in the night
Occasionally to find ourselves in the same port
And I thought that would be enough to help me navigate these waters
These waters that we float upon
But I felt like I could see the beacon in the distance
And somehow you were calling me home

I know I wasn't the easiest to crack
Breaking through the solid walls that I built around me
But your persistence and your honesty
Makes me glad that you're the one that found me

I ain't ever felt a love like this
Been so used to feeling a love like war
I ain't ever felt a love like this
Never felt like this before

I've always been independent for as long as I could remember
Always one to follow the path that I set out on my own
I've never been one to be assigned to another
Like the proverbial rolling stone
Then you came into my life, knowing how the odds were stacked
And slowly over time
Your consciousness and humility
Brought me back

I know I wasn't the easiest to crack
Breaking through the solid walls that I built around me
But your persistence and your honesty
Makes me glad that you're the one that found me

I ain't ever felt a love like this
Been so used to feeling a love like war
I ain't ever felt a love like this
Never felt like this before

I had a hard time seeing that I had lost my way
Longing for something that I didn't even know within myself
I had been subconsciously searching for it
In the worst of places
You took my broken songs as a cry for help
And pieced them back together
So that they finally felt whole once again
The best of love comes not when we're looking
It arrives in the silence
And quietly grows

I ain't ever felt a love like this
Been so used to feeling a love like war
I ain't ever felt a love like this
Never felt like this before"

“Shine Brightly On”

“Through adversity and through faith
We manage to just scrape through each and every day
I can’t watch the news anymore
I can’t read the papers
I can’t abide societies new norms
Trying endlessly to navigate through the haters
World on fire
Pressure reigning down
Feels like there’s no way up
There’s no way out

All hope abandoned
All hope gone
And yet we still remain standing
Yet we still remain strong

Rise up against the hate
We just keep fighting every day
With all hope abandoned
With all hope gone
Somehow we find a way through the darkness
And we shine brightly on
We shine brightly on
Yeah, we shine brightly on

All hope abandoned
All hope gone
And yet we still remain standing
Yet we still remain strong

Rise up against the hate
We just keep fighting every day
With all hope abandoned
With all hope gone
Somehow we find a way through the darkness
And we shine brightly on
We shine brightly on
Yeah, we shine brightly on

Rise up against the hate
We just keep fighting every day
With all hope abandoned
With all hope gone
Somehow we find a way through the darkness
And we shine brightly on
We shine brightly on
Yeah, we shine brightly on

Shine brightly on
Shine brightly on
Shine brightly on
We all shine brightly on
Shine brightly on
Shine brightly on
Shine brightly on
We all shine brightly on”

Title: “Try Again”
Genre(s): Pop, Soul, Blues
Length: 4:29
Label: FREEDOM
Songwriter(s): Alicia Lena
Producer(s): Alicia Lena, Nevaeh Martinez

“Try Again”

“When things fall apart, it’s like everything goes all at once
You feel like your whole world is crumbling down
The weak sit around and wonder why
But the strong get back up and give it another try
And with every fall they rise back up
Never one to give up
They won’t let anybody beat them down
Never one to give up
They’ll find their feet on solid ground

Have you ever felt like you can’t go on
Like everything you’ve ever known has simply gone
Do those late nights wear you down
Like sleep is not a friend
Does it feel like you can’t go on?
Please just try, try again

See if at first you don’t succeed
Listen to the advice that your soul will plead
Close your eyes and count to ten
Get back up and start again
Close your eyes and count to ten
Try, try again
Try, try again

Try, try again
Try, try again
Try, try again
Try, try again

Everything you’ve ever wanted
Is within arms reach
You’ve just got to take your chances
You’ve just got to remember to believe
To believe in yourself
To believe in your heart
To believe in the beauty
To believe you were born to play this part

Have you ever felt like you can’t go on
Like everything you’ve ever known has simply gone
Do those late nights wear you down
Like sleep is not a friend
Does it feel like you can’t go on?
Please just try, try again

See if at first you don’t succeed
Listen to the advice that your soul will plead
Close your eyes and count to ten
Get back up and start again
Close your eyes and count to ten
Try, try again

Title: “Humans Without Humanity"
Genre(s): Pop, Soul, Blues
Length: 3:48
Label: FREEDOM
Songwriter(s): Alicia Lena
Producer(s): Alicia Lena, Nevaeh Martinez

"Humans Without Humanity"

“There’s a sky of darkness cast over the world tonight
And everything seems without light
Cities in chaos and lives have been broken
It’s hard to find faith and yet we still keep on hoping
Hoping someday that this darkness ends
Hoping that we can just be friends
Hoping that the killing will someday stop
And maybe they’ll realize the gift in this life that we’ve got

All around the world
We shall bow our heads and pray
Shed a tear for the fallen
Hope that this hate will end some day
All around the world
We shall bow our heads and pray
Shed a tear for the fallen
Hope that this hate will end some day

Never underestimate how terrible some people can be
It’s a small minority
But they are humans without humanity
We may not have answers
But this is not how it’s meant to be
Never underestimate how terrible some people can be
It’s a small minority
But they are humans without humanity
We may not have answers
But this is not how it’s meant to be

All we want is a civil world
Where our children can walk the streets freely
Without fear of being taken away
From the ones that love them so very dearly
And yet here we are
There’s chaos all around us
And pain and suffering
But one thing history has proven to us
Is that we can find a way to win

Never underestimate how terrible some people can be
It’s a small minority
But they are humans without humanity
We may not have answers
But this is not how it’s meant to be
Never underestimate how terrible some people can be
It’s a small minority
But they are humans without humanity
We may not have answers
But this is not how it’s meant to be"

OOC: Sorry that it has taken a few days to get round to this but I've made today my day to power through and finish things. I can't believe that it has been so long since the last Alicia album! It has gone in the blink of an eye but it's a testament to yourself and the character how she's felt like an omnipresence over the last decade and a bit. Your work with Alicia definitely inspired me to push my creativity back when I joined in 2011. I've always been a fan of your writing and the character herself but this era has really topped it for me. Each release has just been stellar and the completed project itself is no exception!

Been working my way through all the lyrics on this thread and not only is it wonderful writing on your part, there's a clear voice. Alicia's voice. No other character could do this. You've got Alicia's personality, sound, style, viewpoints, and just overall ethos down to a fine art and it really shines through. This isn't just a bunch of songs written for a thread, this is an Alicia Lena project through and through. I made note of your OOC disclaimer about this being a non-description thread (ugh, hate writing those!) and even though they're not here, the record still speaks for itself and is bursting with the Lena magic regardless. Although there are some heavy topics explored throughout, it was still a joy to read through and well worth the wait!

Loved everything about this album but I'd like to highlight “With Heavy Souls and Heavy Faith”, "“What I’m Singing For” and "Saviour" as my favourite "new" tracks on the album. Amazing work on this! Congratulations!

OOC: No worries, no expectations whatsoever but glad you too the time to read through it. Appreciate the kind comments and how the character helped push you when you first started. She was the first character of mine that really seemed to take off as I had a couple of characters before her when I was still trying to figure out how to do this whole thing. So it's a character I've always hoped to find the time for, (She was briefly adopted by yourself hahah) but she is one that I can put on the back burner to focus on others and always be able to bring her back around from time to time. I've enjoyed this era of releases for her and would have loved to have had the time to dedicate to a fully fleshed out album thread but I would have just continued to put it off and it would have dragged on far too long for me.

I appreciate you noticing the attention put into writing songs in a style that fits her. I've always put a lot of effort in trying to write things that fit the character rather than just writing something that could be handed to any of my characters, so I'm glad you picked up on that. It makes me think I'm doing something half-decent at least hahah! But I do have a soft spot for the songs on this album, again just wish I could have dedicated more time to them but I'm happy with them lyrically and glad that you enjoyed reading through them. Thank you for the comment! :)
