“Mr Loverman” is the debut solo single by Chilean born singer Rico Love and marks the first member of 5th Avenue to release solo music, the last time we heard from Rico or 5th Avenue was when they released their debut English single “Love Holder” all the way back in 2017 and was a minor hit before the group decided to focus back on their native Spanish market and also ultimately go on hiatus to focus on their family lives. “Mr Loverman” was written by Rico himself credited using his full legal name, the song was also co-written by his fellow 5th Avenue member Giovanni Sanchez. The track was produced by Anders Bagge who apparently has been working a lot with the 33 year-old, however we are not sure weather a full length album is currently in the works. The track has a total run time of 3 minutes and 3 seconds.
“Mr Loverman” is a pop and funk song where Rico talks about being one of the best lovers out there and that his surname is not just a stage name and that all the ladies often call him Mr Loverman on a daily basis, the track is definitely on the spicy side.
Critical reception to “Mr Loverman” has being mixed to postive for the most part. Julie Mattews of NME wrote in her review. “Okay this release came out of absolutely nowhere, like who even remembers 5th Avenue but good for Rico still trying I guess…but dang this song is spicy especially as I remember that Rico has a young daughter who must be at least 12 years-old by now I wouldn’t want my daughter hearing me sing a song like this that is for sure, overall though not a bad track.” Carlos Ortiz wrote in his review. “Okay this is funky and fresh and not a generic Spanish sounding song this sounds like it came from an American artist rather than a South American, I like this hopefully his solo career in English territories takes off after this.” Faye Jameson wrote in her review. “Okay do I think this track is good, not really it’s sounds a bit dated in terms of what you hear out there today and lyrically it’s nothing special what guy doesn’t talk about being a great lover these days, this is definitely a forgotten track unfortunately” she ended her review by giving the track and 2.5/10. Markus Craig of Idolitor wrote in his review. “Okay this track isn’t bad but it definitely isn’t gonna set the world on fire but I guess someone has gotta represent our South American cousins right? Overall though this track isn’t bad just very generic, I will however say that Rico has an incredible range to his voice and I do hope he releases more stuff.”
