THE CRUCIFIED are indeed pretty good. "Pillars of Humanity" is a cool crossover record. The first LIVING SACRIFICE album is a ripper as well, although I find the vocals a tad annoying at times. If you ask me, the best christian bands are:

DELIVERANCE (first three albums are all thrash classics. "Weapons of our Warfare" is in my top ten thrash records)
RECON (their debut is one of the finest US metal albums out there)
ULTIMATUM
SACRED WARRIOR
MORTIFICATION (first three albums again)
SAINT
TOURNIQUET (again, first three albums)
TROUBLE (although they're not really a christian band, the first two albums have Bible based lyrics)
VENGEANCE RISING
BARREN CROSS

Honestly, I fucking want to hate Christian meta because it's stupid and I hate evangelicals of all kinds. But Place of Skulls really bring the fucking riffs. Which is really all that matters, you can sing about whatever you like so long as got some great music going along to it.

I stopped caring about the "message" of a certain band a long time ago, but overall I have to admit listening to ARGHOSLENT can be a guilty pleasure sometimes. I think the whole sinners are going to burn in hell blablabla lyrics are pretty cool, since they're kinda the opposite of all the killing Christians nonsense most black and death metal bands "sing" about.

That said, PLACE OF SKULLS rule. Victor Griffin is a genius. Wino is nothing compared to that fellow. Can't wait to see him perform with DEATH ROW.

honestly, religion doesn't mean much to me in music, just lyrics and instruments. That's why I choose not to listen to most secular metal, excluding some slipknot.. and mudvayne...

In case I haven't stated this enough, the fact that Christian subgenres exist is so weird to me, because it's not like, say, Christian Rock is all one type of rock music... No, actually it totally is.

The things I listen to exist largely on the fringes of genres, but Christian subgenres seem to exist smack bang in the exact centre of an existing genre. Of all the music I listen to, I can only think of a couple that are outwardly religious, Secret Chiefs 3 (Westernised Sufi Islam, amongst other things) and Om (some kind of spiritual Christianity or something). I'm all for there to be religion in music, as long as it's not the defining factor. Seems like if half the bands big on the Christian Rock circuit were not promoted as Christian, nobody'd give a fuck because they're so tedious and dull.

My favorite band is KISS.
They just released their first new album in 11 years and it's very good.

Who cares, KISS are awesome. They got me into heavy rock in the first place. Still one of my favorite bands after 17 years.

How many are Himsa fans?

That band with that Syu guy? They're way too power metal I think it's too show-offy the only powermetal I listen to is old stratovarius.

No I mean this band:

Syu is in Galneryus and Animetal.

Nope, I know who Himsa are, well, very vaguely, not heard them in an age but I can't say I like them.

You could probably guess this though, my opinion on metalcore is pretty well documented by this point.

Likewise. I get people want to have a little more melody in their metal, but really it seems like they're just diluting the actual power and weight that in my mind makes metal special in the first place.

But then I like my melody like I like my metal: slow and crushing as fuck.

While I wouldn't call that metal (maybe a bit doom/drone leaning), it is fucking amazing.

That was my point. Rather than making weak sounding watered down metal with stupidly cheesy melodies, why not just beef up a simple melody. Works for me.

It has just been ages since I've seen this post.

My tastes recently tend to be skewering more in favor of heavy and NWOBHM stuff than other kinds. Like, I discovered Skeletonwitch maybe a three months ago or something and I just can't stop listening to their debut (Breathing the Fire is good, but not nearly as good). Also rediscovered King Diamond as well as Crimson Glory. And Angel Witch! My god, I forgot how much I really fucking loved them.

Don't get me wrong; I have moods where all I want is some sludgy shit, other times I need a wide palette of thrash. Some days, I need artsy drone, post and avant-garde metal, and other days I need some black metal. Some days, I need death metal of all technicalities and brutalities and progressivenesses (lol) and other times, I need some totally ridiculous prog metal. When it comes to metal, I pretty much only avoid metalcore, nu metal and groove metal. As those are pretty damned awful.

Classic metal is pretty much a staple for me. ANGEL WITCH fucking ruled. The first LP, demos (check out the Sinister History CD compilation. Beats the selftitled album if you ask me), and first couple of singles are NWoBHM classics. CRIMSON GLORY were amazing as well. The first two albums are classic US metal discs.

Recent favorites here include the new NOKTURNAL MORTUM disc (the whole pagan NS blablabla crap is retarded, the music is great though), the SOLAR EAGLE demo and EP (great old fashioned US power/speed metal, ala AGENT STEEL, but just a tad more progressive), and the full length by TEITANBLOOD (great heavy as fuck primitive death metal).
